The Rooftop at Pier 17, one of New York City’s most scenic venues, has announced the addition of a one-of-a-kind glass structure to the space, enabling winter shows upon its installation in late 2025.

With Manhattan’s skyline, the Statue of Liberty, and the Brooklyn Bridge as its backdrop, The Rooftop at Pier 17 has quickly become one of the city’s most iconic new venues.
Opening in 2018 alongside the complete reinvention of Pier 17 in the wake of Hurricane Sandy’s destruction, The Rooftop has hosted some of New York City and the world at large’s biggest names as a part of its annual concert series.
In its nature as an outdoor venue, The Rooftop has been limited in its ability to host concerts when the weather becomes too cold to bear- however, in a revolutionary new announcement, this constraint will soon be no more.
Starting in late 2025, The Rooftop is set to become a year-round live performance venue with the introduction of a custom-designed glass structure that will completely transform the space’s capabilities.

This innovative enclosure will take the once warm-weather exclusive venue into a climate-controlled, indoor setting without compromising the stellar views it’s become synonymous with.

Accommodations for fans will shift slightly, limiting The Rooftop’s regular capacity of 3,500 down to 3,000, however the introduction of the enclosing structure will also provide ample opportunity for a brand new VIP balcony level.
In addition to its standard season of 60+ shows a year, The Rooftop’s new glass structure will enable an additional estimated 25 performances throughout the late fall and into the winter months.
Each spring, the structure will be removed and The Rooftop will return to its original state as an open-air venue with a capacity of 3,500, maintaining the space’s signature charm while elevating the audience experience entirely.
This development marks an exciting expansion of what was thought of as possible for fans of the venue and New York’s music scene at large- attendees and artists alike.

Multi-platinum country artist Cody Jinks has announced his upcoming 2025 North American Headline Tour, Hippies and Cowboys.
The Hippies and CowboysTour sees 23 dates including two in New York: The Rooftop at Pier 17 in NYC on August 13 and Empower Federal Credit Union Amphitheater in Syracuse on August 17. Special guests Tanner Usrey and Shane Smith & The Saints appear at certain dates along the tour.
The electrifying performer who has sold over 2 million tickets to date is looking forward to another ambitious stage setup as he embarks on this upcoming tour produced by Live Nation and FPC Live. Fans can expect the same kind of big tent, inclusive environment for which Jinks is known for.
The tour announcement dropped alongside his upcoming project, Cody Jinks Sings Lefty Frizzell, a tribute album to the late honky-tonk legend, Lefty Frizzell which includes covers of many fan-favorite tracks including, “If You’ve Got The Money I’ve Got The Time.” Giving the songs new life, Jinks takes the music, a cornerstone of traditional country and honky-tonk and makes it his own with the same sincerity and emotional depth that captured fans throughout Lefty’s career. The Hippies and CowboysTour kicks off on March 14 in New Orleans, Louisiana, and wraps up on September 20 in Youngstown, Ohio.

On September 24th, the iconic Dropkick Murphys kicked off their highly anticipated fall tour with a powerful and energetic performance at the Rooftop at Pier 17 in New York City.
Supported by Pennywise and The Scratch, this show marked the first of many tour dates across North America, with stops in cities like Philadelphia, Detroit, Las Vegas, and even Canadian dates in Vancouver, Calgary, and Winnipeg. The tour is set to conclude in their home state of Massachusetts on October 27th before the band heads overseas for a 2025 leg that includes shows in Germany, the UK, and Austria.
The night started with Dublin-based The Scratch, whose unique blend of Irish traditional music and heavy metal got the crowd moving early. The three-piece band, who first made waves with their 2020 debut album Couldn’t Give a Rats, followed up with their 2023 release Mind Yourself, which has further solidified their growing fanbase. Their high-energy set was the perfect introduction to the night’s punk-centric lineup.
Next up was punk rock legends Pennywise, whose veteran presence brought the crowd’s energy to another level. Kicking off their set with “My Own Country” and “Every Single Day,” Pennywise proved why they’ve remained a staple in the punk rock scene for decades. With Fletcher Dragge on guitar, Byron McMackin on drums, Jim Lindberg on vocals, and Randy Bradbury on bass, they delivered a blistering set that included classics like “Date with Destiny,” a cover of The Ramones’ “Blitzkrieg Bop,” “Society,” and closed with their fan-favorite anthem “Bro Hymn.”
When Dropkick Murphys took the stage, it was clear the crowd was there to celebrate one of Boston’s most beloved bands. Since their formation in 1996, the Dropkick Murphys have carved out a unique space in the music world, blending traditional Irish instrumentation with punk rock energy. Over the years, they’ve become synonymous with anthemic singalongs and songs that reflect working-class pride, rebellion, and community spirit.
Ken Casey, the band’s frontman, may have been wearing a boot due to a torn Achilles, but that didn’t slow the band down one bit. The energy radiating from the stage was electric, and Casey, along with Tim Brennan (guitar, tin whistle, accordion), Jeff DaRosa (guitar, banjo, mandolin), Matt Kelly (drums), James Lynch (guitar), and Kevin Rheault (bass), gave a performance that had the entire rooftop shaking. Opening with “Barroom Hero” and “Boys on the Docks,” they ripped through a setlist packed with fan favorites, including “The State of Massachusetts,” “Surrender,” “Forever,” and the socially charged “Which Side Are You On?”
The band also played their new song, “Sirens,” a politically charged anthem addressing the growing divide in America. With lyrics that take aim at the billionaires profiting from societal division, Ken Casey delivered a fiery message:“For nearly a decade, the division between red and blue, right and left, has grown deeper, darker and uglier — dividing families and ending friendships. Nobody enjoys this more than the billionaires, who are making record profits off the blood, sweat, and tears of the working class. They love it when we fight amongst ourselves because their biggest fear is us joining together to come after them… THE REAL ENEMY.”
The night ended with a three-song encore that brought the house down. The crowd roared along to “Rose Tattoo,” “Worker’s Song,” and the band’s signature anthem, “I’m Shipping Up to Boston,” a fitting conclusion to a night of celebration, energy, and defiance.
With more than two decades under their belt, Dropkick Murphys have solidified themselves as legends of Celtic punk, known for their intense live performances and deep connection with their fanbase. Despite the absence of co-lead vocalist Al Barr, who took a leave of absence in 2022 to care for his ailing mother, Ken Casey has taken over full lead vocal duties, and the band hasn’t missed a beat. Barr’s return remains uncertain as he continues to focus on family, but fans hold hope for his eventual comeback.
As Dropkick Murphys power through their fall tour, their message remains as strong as ever: unity, pride, and standing up for what’s right. With the release of “Sirens” and plans for an expansive 2025 tour, the Murphys are showing no signs of slowing down. On May 8, The Rooftop at Pier 17 in New York City, with its breathtaking backdrop of the Brooklyn Bridge and the Empire State Building, witnessed an electrifying event as two iconic punk rock bands, Social Distortion and Bad Religion, took the stage as part of their co-headlining 2024 tour.
Pier 17, perched five stories above the East River, has become renowned for its dynamic open-air atmosphere since its opening in 2018, making it the perfect setting for a night of raw, energetic music.
What made this particular show even more special was the reunion of these two legendary bands, who first played together in 1980 and now, 43 years later, embarked on an epic nationwide tour. The journey to this momentous occasion was not without its challenges, as in June of 2023, Mike Ness of Social Distortion revealed his diagnosis of tonsil cancer, prompting the postponement of the tour. However, after undergoing surgery, Ness and the band were back on their feet, ready to deliver an unforgettable performance.
Kicking off the evening was Lovecrimes, a band led by Julian Ness, son of Mike Ness, who inherited his father’s talent for delivering gritty, soulful vocals. With Trevor Lucca on guitar, Collin Schlesinger on bass, and Josh Roossin on drums, Lovecrimes set the stage on fire with their high-energy set, featuring tracks like “Sabotage,” “I’m Your Ghost,” and “Lovesick,” setting the perfect tone for the night ahead.
As the anticipation reached its peak, Social Distortion took to the stage, led by the incomparable Mike Ness on vocals and guitar. Joined by Jonny Wickersham on guitar, Brent Harding on bass, David Kalish on keys, and David Hidalgo Jr. on drums, Social Distortion unleashed a barrage of hits, including “Bad Luck,” “Mommy’s Little Monster,” “Ball and Chain,” and their iconic rendition of “Ring of Fire.” The crowd was fully immersed in the raw energy and emotion that is quintessentially Social Distortion.
Closing out the night was Bad Religion, with Greg Graffin commanding the stage with his powerful vocals, backed by Brian Baker and Mike Dimkich on guitars, Jay Bentley on bass, and Jamie Miller on drums. Their set was a relentless onslaught of punk anthems, featuring classics like “No Control,” “Recipe for Hate,” “Struck a Nerve,” and culminating in an explosive performance of “American Jesus.” The crowd erupted into a frenzy, with a massive mosh pit forming in the center and fans surfing the sea of excitement.
As the final chords faded into the night, it was evident that Social Distortion and Bad Religion had delivered a show for the ages. For the fans who had waited 43 years for this moment, it was a night they would never forgetâa celebration of punk rock’s enduring spirit and the power of music to unite and ignite the soul. And as the lights dimmed over the iconic skyline of New York City, the echoes of punk rock reverberated through the air, leaving a lasting impression on all who were fortunate enough to bear witness to this historic event at The Rooftop at Pier 17.
