  • Foster The People Announce ‘Paradise State of Mind Tour’ with Stop at Brooklyn Paramount in February

    Famed indie-pop group Foster The People have announced their anticipated Paradise State of Mind Tour which sees a single stop at Brooklyn Paramount on February 24, 2025.

    The upcoming North American headline tour is set to hit 23 cities in all, including a stop in Brooklyn, NY at the Brooklyn Paramount on February 24, 2025. The tour begins October 11 in Austin, Texas, and finishes on March 6, 2025 in Dallas, Texas. Foster The People will host special guest Good Neighbours for the entirety of the tour. The eagerly awaited tour celebrates the recent arrival of Foster The People’s acclaimed new album, Paradise State of Mind. The album is highlighted by such acclaimed tracks as “Chasing Low Vibrations,” “Take Me Back” and the cosmically catchy first single, “Lost In Space.”

    The band continues to celebrate Paradise State of Mind with a top-billed appearance at Austin, TX’s Austin City Limits Music Festival, both last weekend Friday, October 4th and on Friday, October 11. Foster The People first marked the album’s arrival this summer with an intimate pair of sold-out live dates at New York City’s Bowery Ballroom and Los Angeles, CA’s The Roxy Theatre as well as an electrifying performance of “Lost In Space” on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

  • Annie in the Water Announce Next Studio Album ‘Things To Do’

    Upstate New York natives Annie in the Water have announced their next studio album Things to Do which will be released on October 25 to go along with two shows in NY in support of the album.

    As a follow up to their 2022 album Sun at Dawn, Annie in the Water’s fourth studio album was written and recorded from 2022 to 2024 at Bijou Artist Space in Malta, NY. Things to Do represents a step forward for the band towards a new sound inspired by their surroundings Upstate. Things to Do is a love letter to the region they call home.

    Musically, the album is a culmination of two years of hard work with the goal of creating a polished sound that transverses multiple genres. The songs are a reminder to honor one another, to dance while living life with intention, integrity, loyalty, and patience. Each person involved in this project left a tangible impact, creating a truly collaborative album.

    Annie in the Water is an alternative rock band from Upstate New York. Since their first album in 2011, Destination, the band’s feel good sound found its roots in acoustic guitars without limits. Their songwriting, led by guitars and synthesizers over a ground-shaking rhythm section, gives the listener the ability to traverse multiple genres.

    Annie in the Water will be playing three shows in support of their new album which are listed below. They will also have new album related merchandise and vinyl pre-sales available at upcoming shows.

  • Hearing Aide: Going Back To Where It All Began by Jeremy Hilliard

    Jeremy Hilliard announced the release of his newest album Going Back To Where It All Began which dropped October 4. The full-length album contains 13 tracks, all of which are originals.

    Jeremy is a songwriter and guitarist living in Brooklyn. He tours regularly with his band PEAK, with whom who he has released 2 studio albums. Right off the bat, the title track “Going Back To Where It All Began” sets the tone for the entirety of the album. Hopeful, upbeat, adventurous and homey are words that describe the overall feel and theme of the track.

    “Before Your Love” changes the pace a bit with a more somber and low-tempo sound. You can hear lots of influence from indie-country artists as well as a powerful influence from Tom Petty. Moving onto “Sailor’s Warning,” the track opens with a floaty, indie feel. I’d say this track has a mood somewhere in between the previous two tracks – not quite somber, but not as upbeat – somewhere in between.

    Going Back To Where It All Began is a very interesting album. Some tracks are more indie-forward while others are certainly folk or country. Some are reminiscent of an indie artist like Tame Impala, others have clear influence from Tom Petty, The Beatles, and others have influence from folk/country artists like Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, and more. I find this level of range to be rather impressive and a testament to Jeremy’s talent.

  • Composer Dr. Shireen Abu Khader comes to Binghamton for “Memories from the Mediterranean” Concert

    The Southern Tier Singers’ Collective will “Memories from the Mediterranean,” a concert that sees music by composer Dr. Shireen Abu Khader on October 20 at 4PM at Saint James Roman Catholic Church in Johnson City, NY.

    The concert features the world premiere of Rumor Mill, an STSC commissioned work by Palestinian-Jordanian composer Dr. Shireen Abu Khader featuring the poetry of Naomi Shihab-Nye.

    In addition to the world premiere of Rumor Mill, the Southern Tier Singers Collective gives a guided musical tour of countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea, including the Levant, Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Spain, Greece, and Italy. The music encompasses works ranging from Gregorian and Greek chant to Renaissance polyphony, to arrangements of folk music from the region. This concert is generously sponsored in part by the Broome County Arts Council, WSKG, and the School of the Arts at Binghamton University.

    Dr. Abu Khader will join the Southern Tier Singers’ Collective for a weekend of workshops with students from Binghamton University and area high schools as part of her residency. Students will have the opportunity to hear her works and also experience a variety of Arabic percussion playing traditions. This presentation will conclude with a Q&A and discussion with the artists.

  • Guest Host Jane Zell Kicks Off Oswego Music Hall 2024-25 Season September 27

    The Oswego Music Hall has announced their latest calendar listings from September 27 to December 7. Kicking off this season of events is guest host Jane Zell, who steers the series into action.

    All ages and experience levels are welcome at the Oswego Music Hall. Budding performers, singer-songwriters and musicians of all genres are given an opportunity to perform in a supportive environment using cutting edge professional sound and lighting equipment.

    Syracuse Native, Jane Zell finds her groove in musical variety. Influenced early on by the country blues, Jane learned to finger pick and lace single lines into her rhythm playing. She performs classic covers along with crowd pleasing originals laced with blues, funk, and jazz. A solid guitar player, vocalist and songwriter, Zell’s performances are upbeat, warm, expressive, and oft-times willful.

    Guests can expect the National Stage 47th Season. This series contains five shows each with a unique and enchanting musical performance. This season includes shows by Alice Howe & Freebo, Peter Mulvey, Carsie Blanton, Abbie Gardner, and the McKrells.

    The wheelchair accessible venue is located in the McCrobie Civic Center, on 41 Lake Street in Oswego. It is adjacent to Breitbeck Park and overlooks Lake Ontario and the Oswego Harbor. The atmosphere is intimate with candle-lit tables surrounding a small stage with light refreshments available.

    Oswego Music Hall is a family-friendly, non-profit organization  that has been run entirely by volunteers since its inception in 1977. Volunteers can earn admission to shows through various tasks — from running the sound board to making popcorn. Students can also earn credit for community service.

  • Premiere: Pocket Bandits Share Sophomore Single “Midway”, Buffalo Debut September 27

    Ithaca trio Pocket Bandits have announced the release of their sophomore single “Midway” and their debut performance in Buffalo on September 27. Listen to premiere of the track below.

    Pocket Bandits, the dynamic instrumental organ trio that emerged on the Central New York music scene in the fall of 2023, release “Midway,” on Friday, September 27. The band also makes their Buffalo debut that evening, hitting the stage at Nietzche’s with award-winning Boston soul singer-songwriter Jill McCracken and Buffalo local artist Sara Elizabeth.

    Equal parts light and dark, shiny and grungy, melodious and angular, the new single captures all the intensity and fun of the trio. On the heels of their debut release from the spring of 2024, “The Pocket Bandit,” the progressive funk-fusion trio return with another live show favorite. “Midway” deftly splits the difference between inviting danceability and avant-garde exploration, synthesizing the extremes of the three-piece’s identity into one jubilant track.

    The track is captivating to the ears of many genre-enjoyers. “Midway” encapsulates every persona and sound that each member possesses. It is dynamic, powerful and diverse in taste. There’s a little something for everyone here, and this is a staple of Pocket Bandits’ style.

    They are a modern twist on the old-school organ trio: the power of a big band in a tiny package. The group is also performing a free hometown show that weekend, on the final day of the Ithaca Apple Harvest Festival, Sunday, September 29 at 4pm on the Dewitt Park Stage.

  • Saturday Night Live Announces First Five Hosts & Musical Guests of 50th Season

    Saturday Night Live has announced the first five hosts and musical guests of their historic 50th season, premiering September 28.

    Celebrating its 50th season this year, Saturday Night Live has been gracing the screens of folks across the country and beyond since its premiere in 1975. The opening “Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!” has become synonymous with not just the show but New York City as a whole, cementing SNL in the long legacy of the city and the live entertainment scene at large. 

    Consisting of celebrity hosts, sketch comedy, and musical performance, SNL has got it all when it comes to late-night television, and in its 50th year of operation the show is boasting quite the lineup of guests and hosts alike.

    SEPTEMBER 28: JEAN SMART & JELLY ROLL

    Comedy veteran, Emmy-winning star of Hacks, and SNL debutante Jean Smart will host the premiere episode of the season. With TV credits including Fargo, Watchmen, Legion, and Mare of Easttown, she initially rose to fame as Charlene Frazier Stillfield in 1980s sitcom Designing Women and hasn’t stopped since. 

    Smart will be adding the hosting gig to a long list of accolades and accomplishments that include six Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe award, nominations for Tony and Grammy Awards, being the most awarded performer at the Critic’s Choice Television Awards, and so on.

    Alongside Smart will be the season premiere’s musical guest, Nashville born American singer, songwriter, and rapper Jelly Roll. Starting out selling mixtapes in his car, the singer has come a long way as one of the most popular country fusion artists of today. 

    Being the second SNL debut of the evening acts as another testament to his success alongside three CMT Music Awards, the CMA New Artist Award, and a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist in 2023.

    OCTOBER 5: NATE BARGATZE & COLDPLAY

    Veteran stand-up comic Nate Bargatze will host the season’s second episode following his wildly successful SNL debut in Season 49. With viral sketches like “Lake Beach” and “Washington’s Dream”, Bargate is the mind behind the most-watched night of the season to date in addition to the most-watched episode since Steve Martin and Martin Short’s in December of 2022 with 4.8 million viewers.

    Returning for what will be their eighth appearance on the show, British rock group and SNL veterans Coldplay will return to the show’s stage once more. Debuting on the SNL stage in 2001, Coldplay is set to return with a new and exciting performance just off of the release of their newest album, Moon Music, which will drop the day prior. 

    OCTOBER 12: ARIANA GRANDE & STEVIE NICKS

    Pop sensation, singer-songwriter, and actress Ariana Grande is set to host the third episode of the season following her SNL debut as musical guest in 2014 and host in 2016, when she performed a double-duty as host and musical guest.

    Her most recent appearance was Josh Brolin’s episode of Season 49 where she starred alongside cast member Bowen Yang just ahead of the Wicked film adaptation’s release. Wicked marked Grande’s return to the acting world, starring as Glinda the Good.

    Music legend and Fleetwood Mac Frontwoman Stevie Nicks will return to SNL after over 40 years. Last appearing as Musical Guest in December of 1983, Nicks brought “Stand Back” and “Night Bird” from her second solo album to the SNL audience. Named the “Reigning Queen of Rock and Roll” by Rolling Stone, her performance is sure to enchant.

    Most recently starring in Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, sequel to the 1988 Tim Burton film- both in which he played the titular role- Michael Keaton is a decorated actor with a Primetime Emmy, two Golden Globes, and nominations for an Academy Award and a BAFTA under his belt. 

    Keaton is no stranger to the SNL stage, the October 19 episode marking his fifth with the show. His first hosting gig was for the Halloween episode of 1982, and he would return to host again in 1992 and 2015.

    A pop sensation since 13 with her debut “Ocean Eyes”, Billie Eilish has kept the public enraptured in her unique sound developed alongside her brother Finneas for years now, resulting in nine Grammys, two American Music Awards, seven MTV Music Video Awards, three Brits, two Golden Globes, two Academy Awards, and 20 Guinness World Records.

    This will mark Eilish’s fourth return to the SNL stage, appearing as the Musical Guest in September of 2019 and December of 2023 in addition to a double-duty as both Musical Guest and Host in December of 2021.

    NOVEMBER 2: JOHN MULANEY & CHAPPELL ROAN

    Stand-up comedian, actor, and veteran of the New York City comedy scene, John Mulaney will be returning to SNL once more on November 2. Starting as a writer for Saturday Night Live from 2008-2013, Mulaney has built quite the comedy career for himself over the years, returning to host SNL for what will be the sixth time in addition to countless cameos over the years.

    Your favorite artist’s favorite artist, Chappell Roan is adding SNL to the ever-growing list of accomplishments after her recent rocket into pop fame. Known for her unapologetically queer, captivating, and campy music, Roan has delivered powerful performances dressed in drag at Coachella, Governors Ball, and the MTV Video Music Awards where she also took home the Best New Artist award- all in the past year.

    The first episode of Saturday Night Live‘s 50th season will premiere on September 28.

  • Annual Oaktoberfest Returns to Oak Mountain in Speculator on September 29

    This September 29, Oak Mountain in Speculator announces the return of the acclaimed Oaktoberfest. The Central Adirondacks festivities include a wide array of activities for the whole family.

    Oaktoberfest in Speculator is back and better than ever. This family-friendly event is bursting with activities and entertainment, including live music with The Altered Tones & Wayward Folk. Upstate roots-rock band The Insolent Willies are planned to perform both original and all-time classic tunes for the crowd.

    The event begins at 12 noon and wraps up at 4 PM on September 29. Oak Mountain’s Acorn Pub and Eatery serves fall favorites and a full bar. One of the Adirondack’s most critically acclaimed breweries, Paradox Brewery is set to serve some brews. Nine Pin Ciderworks from Albany is planned to be on tap as well.

    The event includes vendors, a craft market, wine and beer sampling, a camp store with snacks and games, and even the opportunity to visit with animals at the Utica Zoomobile. In the spirit of Oaktoberfest, you’ll want to be sure to participate in the German costume contest and ride the chairlift to the top of Oak Mountain to enjoy views of the beautiful Adirondack fall foliage.

Oak Mountain in all its fabulous fall glory, with scenic lift rides, delicious food and drinks, live music, and so much more.   • First-Ever CNY Jazz Series Announced at Timber Banks in Syracuse

    The “CNY Jazz at Timber Banks” talent lineup has been announced, the first launch of the CNY Jazz 2024-2025 season. The 34-show event takes place on Tuesday nights at Timber Banks Golf Club in Syracuse.

    The CNY Jazz series lasts from September to May, with a total of 34 groundbreaking shows. It features regional and national artists from 6 to 9 p.m. at Persimmons restaurant in the Carlton Holmes-designed clubhouse of the Seneca River golf and marina community. The cabaret dining schedule starts September 17, focusing on the finest voices in jazz, pop, and Americana in the region, and a twist or two has been thrown into the mix.

    Singers Ronnie Leigh, Nancy Kelly, Cheri Giraud, Julie Falatico Montalbano, Mike Houston, Kirsten Tegtmeyer, Scott Dennis, Alex Becerra, Vanessa Vacanti, and Mary Nickson all appear. QUATRO provides progressive Americana harmony by Chuck Schiele and Heather Kubacki. Instrumental groups led by Steve Brown and John Rohde step in to play.

    A special Mardi Gras event is the centerpiece of the season. On Fat Tuesday, March 4, the legendary Soda Ash Six, brings their 6-piece unit to play a party. This event is accompanied by a special New Orleans menu.

    The unusual “Bass On Top” duo makes its first winter season appearance in the CNY Jazz series. The entire series is free, with no admission or cover charges. Holders of CNY Jazz Club cards receive 10% off food and drink at these events.

    “This is the only weekly cabaret dining experience to be had north of the Thruway in Central New York. Literally every established jazz vocalist in the region is represented. We have a lot of talent around here, and you can sample virtually all of it without leaving the Persimmons premises. These things regularly sell out, so reserve your tables in advance, folks.”

  • Brooklyn Bowl Announces Rosh Hashanah Music Bash

    Brooklyn Bowl has announced the return of the annual Rosh Hashanah music bash, set to return October 2 and 3. This year marks the event’s 13th year.

    Beginning at 7:30 P.M. on Wednesday, October 2 and 10 A.M. on Thursday, October 3, both musically driven services will feature Rabbi Daniel Brenner with musical director Jeremiah Lockwood. Also included are Antibalas’ Jordan McLean and Timothy Allen, drummer John Bollinger, saxophonist Stuart Bogie and Yula Berri on vocals and bass. 

    Internationally renowned teacher Jane Tuv will also lead a guided meditation at each event. There will also be Torah reading and procession led by Rabbi Brenner, as well as prayer, and shofar blowing. After the services on October 2nd, Brooklyn Bowl hosts a spiritually driven jam session featuring members of the service’s house band as well as additional guests. After services on October 3rd at 12:30 P.M., there is a lunch provided by Blue Ribbon with purchase of a ticket. 

    All proceeds will support the non-profit organization Shalom Y’all Jams, which works to organize holiday services at non-traditional locations. Brooklyn Bowl was ranked the number one busiest club in NYC in 2017. This celebration of Rosh Hashanah may very well love up to that title this October. You’ll want to get your tickets before they sell out.
