  • Rochester’s Own Moses Rockwell Teams With Plain Old Mike for ‘Regular Henry Sessions’

Rochester’s own Moses Rockwell and Wisconsin native Plain Old Mike initially began working together in 2021. Along the way the duo settled on the name, Regular Henry, and the rest as they say is history. Moreover, they each brought their extensive experiences — Moses having previously worked with billy woods, J-Live, Homeboy Sandman and Von Pea among others and Plain Old Mike with Armand Hammer, Defcee, & Curly Castro among others — to bring about Regular Henry Sessions. In light, this latest effort is a blend of neurotic, quirky, descriptive rap album with quirks about every day life that resembles an episode of Seinfeld.

    Regular Henry Sessions

With a heavy De La Soul influence (and some old Eminem) the duo have now released their Hipnott Records debut project, Regular Henry Sessions, and a new video for “Raise Hell.”

“The record was an attempt to accomplish a couple of things.  First, it’s an ode to each of our favorite De La Soul albums; Moses’ is De La Soul Is Dead, and mine is Buhloone Mind State (Miss You Dave!!!).   Second, we wanted to make a fun record” Plain Old Mike offers.  “Life can be so heavy, maybe if you put Regular Henry on, you can just laugh at stupid jokes for 40 minutes. That sounds ok to me.”

With this in mind, Regular Henry Sessions is a blend of the respective rappers favorite sector of hip hop. After all, the album combines old school snare and low baseline to create a laid back feel as the duo tee off with introspective quips about every day life. In essence, Moses Rockwell and Plain Old Mike come off as huge hip hop nerds which makes the album that much more fun as it emotes and every man vibe.

“I think what Mike and I were able to produce as a group makes total sense” Moses Rockwell states.  “We’re each hung up on the same oddities in rap music and laugh at the same jokes.  All of which shines through on the record.”

Regular Henry Sessions is now available at all DSP’s.

The album, Change is Now is something of a power-folk medley. Each song has an energetic folk melody, but a very distinct sound that Christian Parker made his own. The album pays much homage to the Byrds’ classic hits like “Ballad of an Easy Rider,” “Chimes of Freedom,” and “The World Turns All Around Her.” You can very clearly hear Parker’s own original spin on the tunes.

Along with The Byrds, Parker has clear influence from other classic artists like The Beatles, Blue Oyster Cult, and of course, Bob Dylan. Each song on the album has its own spark, its own character and its own rhythmic flair. Some tunes on the album are perfect for a excited countryside drive, while some fit for a calm, hopeful campfire.

    Christian Parker

Christian Parker hails from Canton, New York up by the Canadian border. Parker’s dazzling collection of songs have been warming the hearts of listeners over the past 3 and a half decades. His music contains lyricism around emotion, tension, and hope, carried by chiming guitar, and unforgettable hooks.

  • Chris Pellnat Releases Latest Multi-Sound Album “Cairn”

Chris Pellnat announced the release of his latest folk, synth, rock fusion album, Cairn and it is certainly something unique. The album showcases several unique and intriguing sounds from Chris Pellnat’s repertoire.

    Cairn Chris Pellnat

Chris Pellnat is a singer-songwriter based in Hudson, New York. In addition to his solo work, he plays guitar in the Poughkeepsie-based rock band, The Warp/The Weft. He is also half of the duo, Teeniest. He performs mostly in upstate New York. Chris creates melodic, memorable songs using unusual instrumentation, including vibraphone, clarinet and dulcimer in addition to guitar, bass, drums and
synthesizers. His songs are sometimes cleverly humorous, but always with an underlying message.

There is clear vocal and instrument influence from artists like Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, John Lennon, Paul Simon and more. Cairn combines elements of traditional American folk, orchestral music, acoustic rock, and even electronic. Each song on the Cairn has its own feel and theme. Some songs are about hope, some are about endings and beginnings, some are about nothing. The album has an overwhelming ability to calm, but also the ability to get your feet tapping or your head swaying.

Cairn has a good deal of variety in terms of musical vibe and style. It starts off with “Ship on the Horizon,”
a dulcimer-and-accordion-driven song that sets the tone with the sound of ocean waves. “Wandering Squandering” is a straight-ahead electric rocker. “Forest Giants” is a trippy, electronic exploration inspired by the wilderness. The album continues like that: you never know what the next song will sound like, and you’ll likely be surprised when you find out.

After all, the Valley Stream native originally made waves during the “Soundcloud” era of hip hop, and created a virtual cult-following. Notably, Playboy Carti inked the cultural shape shifter to his label imprint at Interscope Records.

After departing his deal with Carti, Swoosh got back on his independent grind, showing why he attracted such attention after and labeled a future star. A lot of worlds coming together. I have always been a fan of bluegrass and have worked on a few records. When we got in the studio, I thought the band was exceptionally talented. Also, I was a rapper myself in the late 80’s and early 90’s, so this scratched my classic hip hop itch with a new school twist. So, to record these amazing lyricists with a live smackin’ band… what more could you ask for!!”

  • Punk Band Bayside Release New Single “The Devils” Along with New Album

Queens-based punk act Bayside have announced the release of their latest single, “The Devils,” along with new album There Are Worse Things Than Being Alive.

Bayside creates music to captivate audiences with a mix of introspective storytelling and powerful blend of punk, rock, and metal. The band’s latest single and album are set to leave an indelible mark on the music scene. Bayside hopes to be reviewed as one of the most influential bands of their generation.

The band has always focused on creating songs that are relevant to people who want substance, rather than a specific genre. Bayside rejects coasting on past success and proves time and again that the best is yet to come.

The new single, “The Devils” has a very catchy melody with soaring vocals and a mix of chugging and wailing guitar riffs. This textbook pop-punk track has quite punchy drumbeats throughout, impressive metalcore guitar solos, and vocals packed with emotion.

The single offers a sound that resembles that of an action movie soundtrack. The band’s music has changed quite a bit over the years. It has turned from alt-punk to more pop-punk, and both sounds fit the musicians well.

“We just wanted to write a ripper that keeps you on your toes. The chant was a melody that I kept humming to myself when I was walking my dogs. I put some words to it and we were going to use it as a bridge. We loved it so much we thought the song had to start that way.”
