Escaper is a New York City band that blends funky jams with progressive psych-rock to create sci-fi dance parties. Known for the chemistry between Will Hanza and Phil Kadet. Escaper has played major Northeast festivals like Northlands, Great South Bay, and Bear’s Picnic. Originally opened in 1923 as the Palace Theatre in Jamestown, the venue hosted films, vaudeville acts, stage shows and the premiere of hometown legend Lucille Ball and husband Desi Arnaz’s film Forever Darling. By the 1980s, the venue fell into disrepair but thanks to philanthropists Reginald and Elizabeth Lenna, who provided a great deal of funding towards the renovations, the venue was renamed for them as the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts. The venue, nicknamed “The Showplace of the Chautauqua Region,” has now been open consistently for the past decade, aside from the pandemic in 2020.
Situated on bustling Hertel Avenue, Revolution Gallery opened in 2016. It hosts art exhibitions, wine tastings, and a popular performance series featuring diverse acts, from electric Irish punk to “crime jazz.”
This is a brand new venue and private event space in Buffalo’s historic Black Rock neighborhood. Riff City was opened by partners from Jack Rabbit and is an event-driven music venue, with wood-fired pizzas during live music events and plans for a full menu and sit down dining on tap.
Built in the 1920s as a Vaudeville and movie house, the Riviera Theatre is a busy concert venue hosting touring artists performing original or tribute-focused music.
Kurt Johnson opened Shawbucks in 1995, naming it after his great uncle who had the nickname ‘Shawbuck’ while working as a logger. Johnson opened a second bar in the building next door, connecting the two buildings to have two bars in one location, starting in 1996, and moved into the Journal Press building where it is now located, serving food, drinks and hosting occasional shows.
Originally built in 1911 as a movie theater, the Showplace Theater experienced a revival in 2019. It serves as a vibrant music venue, bringing life back to its historic space.

Opened in spring 2024, Terminal B at Buffalo’s Outer Harbor was closed to the public since 1967, but after an infusion of resources, a permanent, $13 million amphitheater has been built right on the banks of the Outer Harbor. The 100,000 square foot open air event center has a canopied stage for concert performances, non-for-profit events, and cultural organizations that features a sloped lawn in a natural setting, plus an overlook deck facing Lake Erie. What was once contaminated land now has a deep concert schedule has been bringing folks back to the shores of the Outer Harbor. The venue officially opened with an announcement from Governor Hochul on April 8, the day of the most recent solar eclipse, serving as a viewing location on the site.
Built as The Town Casino in the 1940s, Town Ballroom was a lounge and cabaret hotspot. Today, it showcases the best contemporary talent across various musical genres.

Originally built by Albert Grossman and opened in 1970, the historic recording studio and destination venue remains a special place where artists can rehearse for tours, record audio and/org video, and perform in an intimate, acoustic setting. The venue has been revitalized in recent years by new owner, Lizzie Vann, who has restored the theater and grounds, making great investments to preserve decades of music history while continuing to keep the tradition alive.
Founded on Yasgur’s Farm, site of the historic 1969 Woodstock music festival, Bethel Woods Center for the Arts opened in 2006 with the New York Philharmonic performing on opening night. An on-site museum, exploring Woodstock and the culture of the 1960s, opened in June 2008.

Originally a 1500-seat movie palace built by Publix Pictures, a subsidiary of Paramount Pictures, the Peekskill Paramount Theater first opened in June of 1930. The Rosendale Theatre is an independently owned venue, and a regional and national gem. of its kind. It is a gem, not only in the region, but nationally and internationally. The best dive bar in all of New Paltz, Snug Harbor – A.K.A. Snugs – is open daily from 12pm-4am and features live music from local and touring bands, with shows going late thanks to being on the cusp of the SUNY New Paltz campus.
Originally known as the Lycian Center for the Performing Arts, The Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center is surrounded by eight acres of beautiful mountain and lake views, with a capacity of nearly 700 seats, bringing in summer concert series, international touring acts, educational programs and much more.
Built in 1885 by chocolate magnate William L Wallace, Tarrytown Music Hall opened during Tarrytown’s “Millionaire’s Colony” era when prominent families resided in the town and gathered at the Music Hall for its lavish balls, flower shows and concerts. Tarrytown Music Hall is the oldest theater in Westchester County and one of the finest examples of Queen Anne decorative brickwork in the county.
Founded in 2015 by a local father-daughter team, Tin Barn Brewing has two locations – in the Hudson Valley town of Chester, and the Finger Lakes city of Dundee, near Watkins Glens. A live music venue in Horseheads, NY has decided to permanently close its doors to the public for reasons out of their control.
“The L,” which operates out of the Journey Church has been an attractive venue for a multitude of shows in the same space where the church holds services.

A variety of events were offered by The L, including musical concerts, martial arts performances, film festivals, comedy, and fashion shows. As reported by WETM18, the main reason for the disappointing shutdown is the sheer volume of noise complaints the venue has caused over the years. It has also been reported that a large reason for closing stems from the church’s reduction in its tax-exempt status. The L is organized by third-party organization, iMatter, a non-profit foundation which has been facilitating events with the venue since its creation in 2021.
Given the situation with the Town, the reduction of our property tax-exempt status, the multitude of noise complaints, the difficulty and expense of mitigating the noise issues and the strain on our people caused by putting on the “L” events, there is no way that we can continue to host The “L” at our facility at the conclusion of the 2023 season’.
Given these facts, the effort required to memorialize an agreement with iMatter seemed to me to be better placed elsewhere.

With these unfortunate circumstances, members of the Horseheads community are saddened and let down. Some speculate there are other motives behind the owner of the venue.
Joey Lanzillotto, booking agent for the venue said via a post on Facebook that he hopes no one else is “duped” by the “criminal hiding behind his holy facade,” in reference to the owner and his motives. He also said “All good things must come to an end, but I’ll never forget seeing everyone pack this room and truly experience the venue this area has deserved for so long. I truly appreciate everyone who supported this vision. We love you all. We’ll be back.”

Many other members of the community have voiced their opinions on the WENY News Facebook page explaining that the closure of the venue is unreasonable and “a win for the Karens,” suggesting NIMBYism is at play in the closure of The L in Horseheads. A good number of commenters have stated the noise complaints are nothing short of falsehoods, and that The L has done more for their community than the church itself.
With the closure of The L, Horseheads is now a town without a single music venue. The nearest one is Tag’s Summer Stage, 10 miles away in Big Flats. Aside from Tag’s Summer Stage, there are practically no other venues in the Southern Tier, leaving the population in this region of the state without a home for rising artists and regular, accessible live music throughout the year.

Charles R Wood Theater (Glens Falls)
The Charles R. Wood Theater is a year-round performing arts facility in downtown Glens Falls, offering cultural events and productions with three spaces in the building for events – a 300-seat theater, a 3,000 square foot rehearsal hall, and over 2,600 square feet of lobby space.
The Festival Commons at Charles R. Cool Insuring Arena is a multi-purpose sports and music arena located in downtown Glens Falls. The building structure of Fort Salem Theater dates back to 1774, and after fires and rebuildings, by 1882, a chapel made this future theatre and arts venue, complete. The Strand Theatre opened its doors on January 17, 1923, and after being closed for a period of time, was reopened on October 7, 2016 through the nonprofit Hudson River Music Hall Productions, which came together in 2010 with the goal of helping to rehabilitate old buildings in Hudson Falls. The Upper Jay Art Center was founded by Scott and Byron Renderer in 2005 as a place to enjoy music, theater, and visual art. In 2008, it incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and, with a wink and a nod the brothers, upholsterers by trade, named the performance space the Recovery Lounge. Over the past decade, the Lounge has become an essential gathering place in the Ausable River Valley, featuring plays by classic and contemporary playwrights, acted by an ever expanding troupe of local talent, play and poetry readings, performance art, dance, and art exhibits. All events are affordable and many are free.
Located in the heart of the Champlain Valley, Ausable Brewing Company is a small farm based nanobrewery, brewing a variety of small batch artisan ales and sodas, and hosting local food trucks and live music all summer long.
Tannery Pond Center in North Creek is dedicated to enriching lives with quality arts programming and a welcoming community center. TPC presents a full schedule of arts programming, including exhibits of original art, musical concerts and performances, as well as workshops and childrenâs programs. Other groups presenting arts programs at the center include Our Town Theatre Group, North Country Singers, and Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts.
Paradox Brewery is a certified veteran owned, independent craft brewery founded in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains brewing innovative beer of the highest quality. You can find live music in their taproom on weekends, as well as open mic nights, especially in the summer months.
20 Main has long been a staple of the Au Sable Forks and surrounding communities. Welcoming townspeople, visitors from all over the globe, bikers and a range of musicians and other entertainment, 20 Main Bar as well as host community fundraisers for Christmas in the Forks and other local charities. A newly opened venue in Saranac Lake, The Garagery is holds the Saranac Lake Hootenanny each Monday night, hosted by Charlie Reinersten, offering a vibrant musical experience in collaboration with Twolined Studio. Musicians are welcome every Monday from 6:30-10:00 pm for a night of featured artists, and open mic performances.
The Mill, as suggested by the name, was originally built in 1952 as a grain mill for the Champlain Valley Seed Cooperative. In 2021, the abandoned building was repurchased and in a collaborative effort between creative director Taylor Haskins and local contractors, they rebuilt the building up as a new cultural hub. For visitors looking for a drink and a bite to eat, The Knock is a speakeasy inside the venue that has a sultry 1920âs prohibition aesthetic. The menu of small plates made in house are all created from locally sourced ingredients.
The Hub is a cafe, restaurant, lounge, bar, and bike repair shop focused on serving Lake George, Brant Lake, Loon Lake, Friends Lake, and Schroon Lake.
