The Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes (OSFL) presents its opening concert in the Musicians’ Choice Chamber Series, The Lyric Sounds of Flute and Piano, on Friday, November 1 at North Presbyterian Church in Elmira.

An evening of elegance and musical mastery awaits as OSFL’s Principal Flute Jeanne Sperber and acclaimed pianist Michael Salmirs share the stage to perform some of the most beautiful and introspective works ever written for flute and piano. This performance will explore a wide spectrum of colors and moods, as the duo trades melodies back and forth between the flute and piano. The program includes music from C.P.E. Bach’s Hamburg Sonata, Jake Heggie’s Soliloquy, Pierre Sancan’s Sonatine, and César Franck’s Sonata.
Sperber, a renowned flutist and educator, has been a beloved figure in the Southern Tier for over twenty years. She has performed in legendary venues such as Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and Weill Hall, and has toured South America and Cuba twice as a concerto soloist. This event promises to be a delightful experience for music lovers of all ages. The concert is sponsored in part by Dick and Judy Sphon and the OSFL Chamber Music Society.
This event is part of OSFL’s 30th concert series. A stellar show with supreme talent like this is one not to miss. The OSFL offers four regular season full orchestra concerts, a Musicians’ Choice Chamber Music Series, concerts by the Chorus of the Southern Finger Lakes, and educational programs for children. The Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra has announced an exciting collaboration with Jeans ‘n Classics, “Dancing Queen: The Music of ABBA,” as the first performance of the Philharmonic’s 2024-2025 Visions Federal Credit Union Pops Series.
Acting as the Southern Tier’s largest and longest-serving professional symphony orchestra, the Binghamton Philharmonic serves up to 10,000 people annually through a variety of innovative, engaging, educational, and affordable programming upon the core philosophy of “building community through the power of music.”
Partnering with the Philharmonic is Jeans ‘n Classics, who have a remarkable 27 year legacy of their own. Since its inception, the group bridges the skill of symphony orchestras with that of emerging world-class rock musicians. Creating new interpretations of orchestral scores through a rock lens, Jeans ‘n Classics transcends both genre and generational boundaries to create a broader community of music lovers at large.
The two class acts will combine for one timeless evening celebrating all things ABBA in Dancing Queen: The Music of ABBA. Featuring beloved hits like “Fernando,” “Waterloo,” and the title track of the evening “Dancing Queen,” it’s sure to be an unforgettable night of orchestral, rock, and Swedish pop fun.

The concert features the world premiere of Rumor Mill, an STSC commissioned work by Palestinian-Jordanian composer Dr. Shireen Abu Khader featuring the poetry of Naomi Shihab-Nye.
In addition to the world premiere of Rumor Mill, the Southern Tier Singers Collective gives a guided musical tour of countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea, including the Levant, Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Spain, Greece, and Italy. The music encompasses works ranging from Gregorian and Greek chant to Renaissance polyphony, to arrangements of folk music from the region. This concert is generously sponsored in part by the Broome County Arts Council, WSKG, and the School of the Arts at Binghamton University.
Dr. Abu Khader will join the Southern Tier Singers’ Collective for a weekend of workshops with students from Binghamton University and area high schools as part of her residency. Students will have the opportunity to hear her works and also experience a variety of Arabic percussion playing traditions. This presentation will conclude with a Q&A and discussion with the artists.

From Ithaca to Binghamton, Elmira to the western Finger Lakes and everywhere in between, there is much to explore the venues of New York’s “607.” The Southern Tier has much to offer with theater companies, museums, theaters, and college campuses, there is a venue for every event.
Atomic Tom’s, a venue in Binghamton, holds weddings, art galleries, benefits, and musical performances. The first Friday of every month, Atomic Tom’s hosts a “First Friday Concert.” Admission is always free, and a cash bar is available.
Anderson Center for the Performing Arts (Binghamton)
As part of Binghamton University, Anderson Center for the Performing Arts enhances the local community with culturally significant performances. The Anderson Center contains three theaters: the 1170-seat Osterhout Concert Theater, the 408-seat Chamber Hall (pictured below) and the 558-seat Watters Theater.
Since 1903, Bailey Hall has been used by Cornell University to host musicians and ensembles. The Cornell University Department of Music sponsors more than 100 concerts, encompassing a broad spectrum of the world’s art and music.
The Bundy Museum of History and Art is a rich piece of Binghamton history and hosts events and fundraisers. The Bundy Museum is also home to WBDY 99.5 FM, a community radio station that enriches Binghamton’s artistic and intellectual life.
Cranberry Coffee House is Binghamton’s premier folk music venue. It is also home to The Middle Set, their open mic event. Hosted on the third Saturday of every month, The Middle Set gives artists, musicians, and story-tellers of all ages a chance to perform.
Deep Dive hosts weekly trivia and karaoke nights, as well as concerts and private events. Deep Dive also hosts concerts and jam sessions frequently in a wide variety of genres.
Diversion Brewing Company has been serving the Chemung community since 2016. Diversion hosts a wide variety of events, including musical performances. In the summer of 2017, they started their “Tunes & A Truck” program, where local musicians and food trucks come to the brewery every Saturday.
The Downstairs is a membership-based art gallery and community listening room. With a maximum capacity of around 50 people, The Downstairs is ideal for an intimate concert. The Downstairs also hosts weekly comedy open mics every Tuesday, and exists for the benefit of local artists; The venue does not take a percentage of the proceeds from ticket or merchandise sales.
Binghamton’s beloved restaurant, Downtown, often hosts events for the community. Weekly trivia nights and drag brunches are available, as well as performances by local bands.
Fanatics Pub is a venue in Lima that serves pizza, hamburgers, and wings. Beloved by the local community, concert-goers enjoy the cozy atmosphere and talented acts, most of whom are Blues artists. Fanatics also hosts trivia and comedy nights.
Since 1975, The Hangar Theater has been supporting and enhancing Ithaca’s arts. The Hangar Theater is dedicated to producing quality performances and inspiring community through their programs. The theater strives to be an artistic home that nurtures a lifelong love of the performing arts. Arts education is central to the Hangar Theater’s mission, and they offer numerous programs for children, including the summer Mainstage and KIDDSTUFF productions, an annual production of A Christmas Carol, and the Lab Company.
Known for their live music and fresh wings, The Hornet’s Nest hosts local musicians and karaoke nights. Events are announced on their Facebook, which is available below.
Located in Elmira’s historic Federal Building in the business district, the Ill Eagle hosts events and live music. The Ill Eagle has multiple event rooms, each restored to accommodate guests. The largest event room, the old courthouse, can accommodate up to 200 people.
Irish Kevin’s is an Irish Bar known for its Irish cuisine and talented performers. They are known for their award-winning, house-seasoned corned beef and friendly atmosphere.
Since 1991, the Kitchen Theater Company has offered talented and determined young artists a place they could work together and hone their craft. In 2010, KTC made history by becoming the first theater company in Ithaca to own its own space. Throughout its history, KTC has produced over 200 plays, including 34 world premieres by Adam Bock, Tanya Barfield, Darian Dauchan, and many others.
Moe-Town is an outdoor music venue in Addison that hosts local, regional, and national bands. In addition to concerts, Moe-Town hosts Spring/Fall Festivals, Halloween parties, and overnight camping. Lawn chairs and coolers are welcome, and food and drinks are available.
New Leaf Cider Company is a winery that hosts events and performances. There are weekly open mics, as well as trivia nights every Thursday. They also host stand up comedy the last Thursday of every month and host private events.
The Phelps Mansion was built in 1871 and owned by Sherman David Phelps, an entrepreneur and one-time mayor of Binghamton. The mansion was designed by Isaac G. Perry, who also designed the Binghamton Inebriate Asylum (1858) and helped complete the New York State Capitol Building (1899). The museum hosts fundraisers and concerts, and a psychic fair the first Friday of every month.
The Range is a Western-themed bar that hosts musicians nearly every weekend. The Range is located above Trader K’s in Ithaca’s commons. Their diverse set of performances promises something for every taste.
Sach’s Tee House is a bar that hosts outdoor music. Their new patio is open, and they host trivia nights every Thursday. Known for their trendy and welcoming atmosphere, Sach’s combines traditional sports bar elements with live music.
Endicott’s Little Italy Heritage Center is a non-profit dedicated to preserving Endicott’s Italian neighborhood. A surge of Italian immigrants came to Endicott hoping to work for Endicott-Johnson (EJ) Corp. Italian immigrants created the vibrant neighborhood community the Heritage center works to preserve, The Stage at Little Italy hosts an annual Italian Festival, GUSTO, as well as farmers markets and other community events. They also put on productions in George W. Johnson Park.
The State Theater opened in 1928, and has been a significant venue in the Finger Lakes region ever since. Its 1,600 capacity makes it the largest venue in Ithaca. The theater fell into disrepair, and the owner even considered demolition in the mid ’90s, but Historic Ithaca acquired the building in 1998 and committed to revitalizing the building, and it became a designated landmark.

Since its opening in 2010, The Westy has become a staple of the Ithaca community. They host an open mic every Thursday at 9 PM, food trucks in the summer, and numerous concerts.

Since 1958, the African-American Cultural Center at 350 Masten Avenue, Buffalo, has been a vibrant hub for live music and cultural events. Renowned for organizing the annual Pine Grill Jazz Reunion at MLK Park, it is also the proud home of the Kakilambe Dance & Drum Company.
Babeville, located at 341 Delaware Avenue, Buffalo, is a 19th-century church famously preserved and revitalized by folk-rock star Ani DiFranco. Within its walls, Asbury Hall, The Ninth Ward, and Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Centerâs cinema host a mix of national and local bands.
Formerly known as Darcy McGeeâs, The Banshee Irish Pub at 257 Franklin Street, Buffalo, is a cozy, traditional spot with a focus on Celtic music. Its stage features a full schedule of live, local bands during weekends.

One of the oldest museums dedicated to modern art, Buffalo AKG Art Museum (formerly the Albright-Knox Art Gallery) is the sixth-oldest public art institution in the United States, founded in December 1862 as the Buffalo Fine Arts Academy. Now renovated, the museum hosts weekly Thursday Night Live performances, M&T First Fridays with live music, the Buffalo Chamber Players at AKG, and the seasonal outdoor concert Rockin’ at the Buffalo AKG.

Located in the former Buffalo Grill and Ale House, Luna Lounge opened in 2023 as music venue, bar, and restaurant in Cheektowaga, with a variety of hip hop and EDM artists performing here.

Located on the Daemen College campus, MusicalFare Theatre offers a season of musicals in its 136-seat main theater and cabaret concerts in the spacious, ninety-seven-seat lobby.

As the only lakeside music venue in Western New York, Public House on the Lake at 914 Lake Shore Road in Hamburg features both indoor and outdoor stages.
The Rapids Theatre offers a prime concert venue within an ornate former 1920s-era movie house. It has hosted many national acts. (The venue has recently closed its doors.)
Originally opened in 1923 as the Palace Theatre in Jamestown, the venue hosted films, vaudeville acts, stage shows and the premiere of hometown legend Lucille Ball and husband Desi Arnaz’s film Forever Darling. By the 1980s, the venue fell into disrepair but thanks to philanthropists Reginald and Elizabeth Lenna, who provided a great deal of funding towards the renovations, the venue was renamed for them as the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts. The venue, nicknamed “The Showplace of the Chautauqua Region,” has now been open consistently for the past decade, aside from the pandemic in 2020.
Situated on bustling Hertel Avenue, Revolution Gallery opened in 2016. It hosts art exhibitions, wine tastings, and a popular performance series featuring diverse acts, from electric Irish punk to “crime jazz.”
This is a brand new venue and private event space in Buffalo’s historic Black Rock neighborhood. Riff City was opened by partners from Jack Rabbit and is an event-driven music venue, with wood-fired pizzas during live music events and plans for a full menu and sit down dining on tap.
Built in the 1920s as a Vaudeville and movie house, the Riviera Theatre is a busy concert venue hosting touring artists performing original or tribute-focused music.
Kurt Johnson opened Shawbucks in 1995, naming it after his great uncle who had the nickname ‘Shawbuck’ while working as a logger. Johnson opened a second bar in the building next door, connecting the two buildings to have two bars in one location, starting in 1996, and moved into the Journal Press building where it is now located, serving food, drinks and hosting occasional shows.
Originally built in 1911 as a movie theater, the Showplace Theater experienced a revival in 2019. It serves as a vibrant music venue, bringing life back to its historic space.
Built in 1868, one of Jamestown’s oldest churches has since been repurposed as a center for the arts. The Spire hosts regular theatrical programming; serves as a home to entrepreneurs, artists, performers, groups, churches, and organizations; and hosts Chautauqua’s Got Talent competition, concerts, comedy, and more.
A haven for roots music, Sportsmenâs Tavern features Americana, blues, rock, and big band performances. It also owns and operates The Cave, providing a diverse musical experience.
Opened in spring 2024, Terminal B at Buffalo’s Outer Harbor was closed to the public since 1967, but after an infusion of resources, a permanent, $13 million amphitheater has been built right on the banks of the Outer Harbor. The 100,000 square foot open air event center has a canopied stage for concert performances, non-for-profit events, and cultural organizations that features a sloped lawn in a natural setting, plus an overlook deck facing Lake Erie. What was once contaminated land now has a deep concert schedule has been bringing folks back to the shores of the Outer Harbor. The venue officially opened with an announcement from Governor Hochul on April 8, the day of the most recent solar eclipse, serving as a viewing location on the site.
Built as The Town Casino in the 1940s, Town Ballroom was a lounge and cabaret hotspot. Today, it showcases the best contemporary talent across various musical genres.
With venues including the Mainstage Theatre, Drama Theatre, Black Box Theatre, and Screening Room, the University at Buffalo Center for the Arts hosts live music events, featuring national touring acts and other performances on campus.
The West Falls Center for the Arts is a charming space that hosts live music throughout the year. With a various shows per month, it showcases both local and national bands, spanning genres like blues, folk, acoustic, Americana, and gentler rock & roll, fostering an intimate vibe.
Listed as “temporarily closed” with no recent shows of note, The Willow Bay Theater, formerly know as The Crown Theatre, is a 500-seat venue located at the top of the Willow Bay Building on 3rd Street in downtown Jamestown.

Five For Fighting kicked off Independence Day with a performance on Live With Kelly and Mark at “Live’s 4th of July Family Party” in New York City. In addition the Grammy-nominated soft-rock star has announced an upcoming 4-month nationwide tour beginning in July until October. Moreover the tour will be split into two separate legs; a full-band Tour and a string quartet leg of the tour.

FFF — also known as John Ondrasik — will be joined by experienced banmadates; drummer Randy Cooke, bassist Sean Hurley, and guitarist Peter Thorn for the first 2 months of the tour. Comparatively he will be joined by the likes of violinist Melissa Tong –who toured with Post Malone in 2023, Tony-winner Katie Kresek on violin, Broadway’s own Chris Cardona on viola and cello player Peter Sachon for the tours finals two-months. Markedly FFF’s eclectic style has brought out a wide-arrange of highly decorated performers.

Coming this summer to libraries in the Chemung, Steuben, Schuyler, and Tioga counties is the “Stories With Music” concert series. The series is sponsored by the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes (OSFL), which brings classical music to venues all across the Southern Tier of New York.
Stories With Music is geared specifically towards young children and encourages all to learn and appreciate the arts. All events and performances are free and an enjoyable experience for all ages.
Since 1995, the OSFL has captivated audiences with its captivating performances and community engagement. Composed of talent from all over the Southern Tier, the OSFL was created with the merger of two orchestras: the Corning Philharmonic Society and the Elmira Symphony and Choral Society. For almost 30 years, the OSFL has devoted itself to working with young people, creating and maintaining family-friendly programs in schools, libraries, youth competitions, and their Youth Orchestra.
Formed in 2018, Stories With Music truly started from the bottom. The original series was performed at only one library. In the beginning, OSFL presented one group of chamber musicians, who only performed one concert. Over the last six years, the concert series gained innumerable popularity and a steady following. This year, the lineup consists of over 3 different chamber groups, 30 performances, and 15 libraries in four different counties. Residents of the Chemung, Steuben, Schuyler, and Tioga counties can now enjoy the family-friendly experience that is Stories With Music.
During the series, Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes musicians present classic children’s stories to music, providing the audience with an immersive and captivating experience. Each performance has a live read-aloud of iconic storybooks, including Little Red Riding Hood, The Adventures of Pinocchio, and more.

Owego’s Strawberry Festival will run from June 13 to 15 with a 5K, a block party, a parade, various musical acts, and a lot of strawberries.
Over the past 42 years and in many forms, the community of Owego has worked together to bring the Strawberry Festival to fruition and make it the spectacle it is now. In its current form, the celebration takes place over 3 days, two venues, and 27 performances.
Thursday, June 13
At 5 PM the festival will begin with a Rock and Run. The event consists of a one-mile kidsâ fun run starting at 5:15 as well as a 5K Run and Walk starting at 6 PM. The event held at Hickories Park in Owego, is presented by Tioga State Bank and the Historic Owego Marketplace. Hi-Way Fruit Market and The Dean Goble Band will play during throughout the day.

Friday, June 14
At 5 PM, the festival will move to downtown Owego for the Block Party. There will be musical acts throughout the day on three different stages. Namely, the Nate Gross Band, fronted by Nate Gross, a Syracuse Area Music Award recipient, will play the Courthouse Stage at 6:30 PM. Following the Nate Gross Band is Stone Senate. The band, who are returning to the Strawberry Festival will hit the stage at 8:15.
Other performances will include bands, Foggy Maloon, Making The Band, Crossing the Line, and others. Additionally, there will be other forms of entertainment including jugglers, busking, and the Kidz zONe, hosted by the Owego Nazarene Church. The Courthouse Square will have the Wine & Beer Tasting Tent open from 5:30-8:30 PM
Afterwards, A firework show sponsored this year by the Pumpelly Estate will take place in Draper Park at 9:30 PM.
Stone Senate
Saturday, June 15
At 9:30 AM the annual parade will begin. Coordinated by John Loftus, and led by Grand Marshals Jim Raftis Sr. and Dick Franz, the parade will travel through Downtown Owego. The celebrations will include Hose Teams, Inc., Owego Little League, and veteran organizations.
After the parade, music will begin at 11 AM with 17 acts playing throughout the day across four stages, with additional shows at the M&T Bank Lawn, Pumpelly Estate, and Belva Lockwood Inn Lawn. The bands include Randy McStine with a 3-hour performance, the Waverly High School Band, Junkyard Heights, and many others.

The Abducted by the 80s Tour is set to groove audiences and feature prominent hitmakers from the 1980s. These hitmakers include Wang Chung, Men Without Hats, The Motels, and Naked Eyes.
The featured acts have joined forces to create a musical extravaganza that transports audiences to the heart of the 80s. The neon-soaked, synth-driven decade is worshipped by the upcoming launch of the Abducted by the 80s Tour. This tour is all about those classic, nostalgic pop, rock, and new wave hits of the 80s.
Wang Chung, Men Without Hats, The Motels, and Naked Eyes prepare to bring various hits like, “Everybody Have Fun Tonight,” “Dance Hall Days,” “Promises Promises,” and many more. Together, the artists have dozens of Billboard Top 100 hits, which they plan to unleash upon the audience for the month-long extravaganza.

The tour sees a stop at Sharkey’s Event Center in Syracuse on June 14. The Abducted by the 80s tour also stops at Elmira First Arena in Elmira, NY on June 15. The tour 17-date tour begins May 17 and wraps up June 25. Get ready to dance, sing along, and relive the magic of the 80s with this unforgettable music tour.
