The Open Eye Theater of Margaretville, NY has announced their exciting 2024 season including spring, summer and fall events with schedule set to kick off in April 2024.
Established in 1972 in New York City, The Open Eye Theater was started by the renowned mythologist Joseph Campbell and dancer-choreographer Jean Erdman, who sadly passed away. Jean Erdman’s groundbreaking idea of “total theater,” which combined dance, drama, music, and myth, made her an internationally acclaimed artist in the modern theater movement.
Under Amie Brockway’s direction as producing creative director in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the theater became known for creating and presenting cutting-edge plays for audiences of all ages. The theater’s primary focus since moving to the Catskill Mountains and setting up shop in Margaretville, New York, has been on the creation and presentation of new plays, showcasing the works of up-and-coming, well-known writers. Annual Summer Shortcuts, a series of eight 10-minute plays by Catskills, national, and international playwrights, has proven popular among the producers.Â
The Open Eye Theater started working along with WIOX Radio 91.3 FM, WIOXradio.org, and MTC Channel 20 television in 2020 and their exciting new 2024 season set to start in April.
The 2024 season will kick off on April 21 at 3:00pm with The Tempest, by Catskill Mountain Shakespeareâs touring company. Once in the Time of Trolls, a radio play, by Sandra Fenichel Asher will follow on May 9-19. The play is based on Norwegian folk tales and adapted by the playwright to include sound effects.
The Effects of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds, by Paul Zindel will follow from July 18-28. This full-length play won the Pulitzer Prize in 1971 and is recommended to be best enjoyed by older teens and adults.
In August, the theatre will finish their summer with The One Hundred Acre Wood, which was conceived and directed by Amie Brockway from the stories of Winnie the Pooh by A. A. Milne. The show will be held in August 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31.
Summer Shortcuts XIV, will be held from August 15-25. The right original ten-minute plays will be performed for general audience. Legends & Tales, stories with music for children, will be held in September and October matinee at 12 noon.
The Theatre will close its season in the fall with Enough! 2024, Plays Against Gun Violence set to play in November and It’s A Wonderful Life, the radio play by Joseph Landry based on the short story The Greatest Gift by Phillip Van Doren Stern in Mid-December with the date TBD. The Hudson-based music organization Basilica Hudson have received a statewide recognition from the Preservation League of NYS with the Award reception to be held on March 14 at the Rainbow Room in NYC.
Founded in 2010 by director Tony Stone and performer Melissa Auf der Maur, Basilica Hudson is located on the Hudson River in Hudson, New York, in a renovated 1880s industrial facility powered by solar energy. Over 20,000 people attend the organization’s genre-pushing music festivals, sizable marketplace events, frequent cinema screenings, artist-in-residence program, public installations, and other community activities each season. Most of its offerings are sliding scale or free.
Through its programs, Basilica Hudson strives to create experiences that are as grit, tough, and beautiful as its surroundings while also promoting the growth, production, and presentation of independent arts and culture. It is inspired by the cultural tradition and environmental advocacy of the area, as well as the long past of the City of Hudson, as well as the region’s artistic legacy and environmental advocacy.
One of the first co-founders, Melissa Auf der Maur, born and raised in Canada, is a musician, photographer, curator, and producer. Her most well-known role was bassist for two influential bands from the 1990s: The Smashing Pumpkins and Hole. Her shots from both bands have been featured in publications and shows including National Geographic, Spin Magazine, Sotheby’s NYC, and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. The other co-founder, Tony Stone-based in Lower Manhattan, is a filmmaker and builder. His latest film, Ted K which was distributed by Neon, carries on his exploration of the rugged and dark soul of America, and has been met with high acclaim.
The 2024 Pillars of New York also include Peggy King Jorde, Principal of King Jorde Culturals, Richard J. Moylan, the President of The Green-Wood Cemetery, and of course Melissa Auf der Maur & Tony Stone, the co-founders of Basilica Hudson and River House Project.
Returning to Accord, NY on Saturday, June 29, Follow the Arrow festival finds host Marco Benevento bringing in an eclectic lineup for the third installment, including Mike Gordon joining Benevento for a joint performance.
Follow the Arrow will also feature Os Mutantes, W.I.T.C.H. (We Intend to Cause Harm), Ghost Funk Orchestra, and special guest Sam Cohen. Ghost Funk Orchestra and Benevento pair up for a tour this spring as well.
Marco Benevento will also perform with both his solo project as well as the Benevento Family Band.

The performance with Mike Gordon marks the first since since 2006 that he and Benevento have played together as a duo. They have also performed together in the past with G.R.A.B. (Gordon, (Joe) Russo, (Trey) Anastasio, Benevento) as well as shows with Gordon joining the Benevento-Russo Duo.
Cohoes Music Hall will host the Beatles vs. Stones tribute show featuring the tribute bands Abbey Road and Satisfaction – The International Rolling Stones Show on Thursday, May 9.
Since their initial chart encounter 61 years ago, there has been a discussion between The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. The argument at the time, and one that still persists, was that the Beatles were a pop group and the Stones were a rock band, starting the boys next door vs. the bad boys of rock debate. The two legendary bands will engage in a musical “showdown” this may at historic music hall Cohoes Music Hall in Cohoes.
When sharing the idea of the show, Chris LeGrand, who plays “Mick Jagger” in the show shared that, “Music fans never had a chance to see the Beatles and the Rolling Stones perform on the same marquee…now, music aficionados can watch this debate play out live on stage.”
The Cohoes show is part of a 125 stop tour of the U.S., Australia and Canada and has been touring since 2011. The show also performs long term residencies for a number of the Harrah’s Casino properties. Their production includes some of the more popular songs from the two rock pioneers and covers the scope of their musical careers, although the set list for Satisfaction usually includes Rolling Stones songs up to the 1980s, “they certainly have more pop songs but we’re a really great live show. The fans are in for an incredible night of music!” shared LeGrand.
During the two hour show, the bands perform three sets each, trading places in quick set changes and ending the night with an all-out encore involving both bands. The band members have their outfits custom-made, since avid fans know exactly what the Beatles and Stones wore onstage during different time periods in their careers. There’s a lot of good-natured jabbing between the bands as well. “Without Beatlemania, the Stones might still be a cover band in London…there’s no question that the Beatles set the standard.” said Chris Overall, who plays “Paul”.

Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams have announced they are joining forces with musical friends old and new to present Larry & Teresa’s July Jam at Arrowood Farms in Accord, NY on July 20, 2024.
The one-day festival is a not-to-be-missed celebration of some of the best performers in Americana music in a picture-perfect Hudson Valley setting. July Jam follows the release of the duo’s newest album All This Time, out April 5.
In addition to Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams and bandmates Brandon Morrison (bass/vocals) and Justin Guip (drums), July Jam will feature Hot Tuna Acoustic, Jackie Greene, The Secret Sisters, Connor Kennedy & Onestar, plus special guests Cindy Cashdollar (dobro) who’s played with everyone from Asleep At The Wheel to Bob Dylan, Jim Weider (guitar) and Brian Mitchell (keyboards) from The Weight Band. Their relationships with the artists sharing the bill span decades. They have worked with Hot Tuna’s Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady on stage and in the studio since 2011, with Larry producing their most recent album Steady as She Goes, plus Jorma’s solo albums River of Time and Ain’t in No Hurry. Campbell & Williams met West Coast-based guitarist singer Jackie Greene courtesy of Phil Lesh in 2012 when the three toured with Phil and Friends including the historic fourteen-day stand at New York’s Nokia Theater. Greene toured with the Black Crowes, Bob Weir, and Gov’t Mule, and his songs have been featured in films like Brokeback Mountain.
From Muscle Shoals, Alabama’s The Secret Sisters burst onto the Americana scene in 2010 working with luminaries like Dave Cobb, Brandi Carlile, and T Bone Burnett. Their soon-to-be-released album, Mind, Man, Medicine features Larry on guitar, fiddle, mandolin, and pedal steel. Connor Kennedy first connected with Larry & Teresa at Levon Helm Studios. He has toured with Donald Fagan and Rachael Yamagata, and will open the festival with his band Onestar whose members include Brandon Morrison, Lee Falco, and Will Bryant.
Some of outlaw country’s greatest names have announced a nationwide tour, Outlaw Fest 2024. The tour sees several dates across the country, with four across New York State. Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, Robert Plant, and Alison Krauss are some of the names slated to perform this summer.
The inaugural Outlaw Music Festival made its debut in 2016 in Scranton, PA. The event was so well received that Blackbird, Rothbaum, and Nelson have developed it into one of North Americaâs biggest annual touring franchises. Musicians such as Neil Young, Van Morrison, ZZ Top, Eric Church, Bonnie Raitt, Luke Combs have been involved in years past.

Phish has finally announced their summer tour dates and the band will return to Bethel Woods for a third time after previous visits in 2011 and 2022.
The band’s return to the home of Woodstock will see shows played on August 9, 10 and 11 – the last ones of the tour before their Mondegreen Festival in Delaware the following weekend.
The summer tour kicks off with three nights at Great Woods in Mansfield, MA from July 19-21. It also sees the band returning to Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT a few days later. The Midwest gets a lot of attention this summer with weekend gigs planned for both Alpine Valley in Wisconsin and Deer Creek in Indiana with shows in St. Louis and Grand Rapids, MI also on the docket. Phish then returns to the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts for a third time after a monumental three-day run in 2011 that helped sparked the band’s return from hiatus and a pair of weekend shows in 2022.

Blues rock powerhouse Tedeschi Trucks Band have announced the “Deuces Wild” Summer tour which begins February and wraps up in October. The tour sees multiple dates across New York State. The band has recently added several new shows for this summer and fall.
Tedeschi Trucks Summer tour will begin on the west coast and make its way east as the tour progresses. Fans can expect to see dates in Saratoga, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Port Chester, and Bethel, along with a few other dates in the Empire State.
The band’s upcoming tour will feature special guests Little Feat, Margo Price, and Greensky Bluegrass on select dates with shows in Bethel (8/25), Philadelphia (8/28), and Saratoga Springs (8/30-31) having three acts on the bill.

Taylor is known for his covers, such as “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)” and “Handy Man”, as well as originals such as “Sweet Baby James”. The singer is also known for playing the leading role in Monte Hellman’s 1971 film Two-Lane Blacktop.
As a recording and touring artist, James is known for touching fans with his warm baritone voice and distinctive style of guitar-playing for more than 50 years, while setting a precedent to which countless young musicians have aspired. Since the release of his self-titled debut album in 1968, he has sold more than 100 million albums during the course of his successful songwriting and performing career, earning gold, platinum, and multi-platinum awards.
In early 2020, the songwriters hall of famer (2000) released “Break Shot”, a deeply personal and authentic audio-only memoir detailing his first 21 years. In addition, he also dropped American Standard, his 19th studio album, which made him the first musician to have a Billboard Top 10 album in each of the previous six decades and won him the 2021 Grammy Award for best traditional pop vocal album.
James has done a lot of touring in Europe, Canada, and the US in recent years. Legendary guitarist Santana and GRAMMY-nominated band Counting Crows have announced they will be touring together this summer. The Oneness Tour will stop by Bethel Woods on July 18, Jones Beach on July 21, and Empower Federal Credit Union Amphitheater at Lakeview on July 24.
Santana and Counting Crows will deliver tons of high-energy, passionate, and classic hits from their catalogs. Carlos Santana will provide his legendary guitar playing, while the Counting Crows get everyone jiving and singing along.
These artists are visionaries, and a tour combining the minds of these talents will surely prove to be a spectacle. The musicianship of these artists allows for a plethora of hits to be unleashed this summer.
The tour will also offer different VIP packages and experiences for fans to take their concert experience to the next level. Packages vary but include premium tickets, commemorative tickets, exclusive merchandise items, and a collectible laminate.
Counting Crows Live
Tickets will be available starting with a Citi presale beginning on Wednesday, February 14. Additional presales will run throughout the week ahead of the general on-sale beginning on Friday, February 16 at 10 a.m. at Santana.com and CountingCrows.com.
