  • In Focus: Drew Baldridge at The Song & Dance in Syracuse

    Drew Baldridge brought his country music tour to The Song & Dance in Syracuse on Sunday, November 17, for a night of good vibes and dancing.

    Known for his diversity, the Illinois born singer showed up with a mix of slow country and rockin’ honky tonk that had the fans dancing the night away. Opening up with his song “Imma,” the crowd cheered him on as he held his guitar high.

    Drew made sure to stop and acknowledge the fans in between songs and thank them for having him in Syracuse. Halfway though the perfomance Drew invited a couple up on stage informing the crowd that there was a surprise coming. Little did they know an on stage proposal was about to take place.

    Opening the show was Nashville native Dylan Wolfe who welcomed the fans with his acoustic cover of “Here Without You” written by 3 Doors Down. Known for his twangy guitar riffs and stunning vocals, Dylan wove together stories of love and sorrow as the enticed crowd sang along.

    Following Dylan’s performance was Tori Martin, also a Nashville native. The country artist brought a mix of love, heartbreak, and self discovery as she interacted with the crowd. Known for her catchy song “Lost in the Country”, Tori brought energetic vibes and a sense of authenticity to the stage.

    The country music fans of Syracuse didn’t just come for a show, they came to dance the night away. This was Drew Baldridge’s first time headlining a show in Syracuse. With songs like “Honky Tonk Town” and “Beach Ain’t One”, Drew brought high energy and emotion to the stage. Known for his heartfelt lyrics, Drew ended his performance with the hit “Shes Somebody’s Daughter’ as families slow danced together, some even in tears from the raw emotion that the Illinois-born artist poured his heart out to. This song would go on to make Drew the first independent artist to achieve a number 1 at country radio.

    Gearing up for shows in Michigan and Ohio, Drew concluded his performance with heartfelt invitations to the fans for each and every one of them to come meet him and say hello.

  • In Focus: Monkeys on Ecstasy (moe.) Take Over Middle Ages in Syracuse

    moe. fans flocked to the Middle Ages Concert Hall in Syracuse on Friday, November 15 for the first of two consecutive sold-out performances by Monkeys On Ecstasy.   

    Perhaps one of the more poorly kept secrets in the music industry, Monkeys on Ecstasy serves as the pseudonym for jam-rockers moe.  The alternatively billed shows allow the band to perform more intimate clubs and concert halls, harkening back to their early years.  The lucky recipient this time around was the Middle Ages Concert Hall.  The band, now entering their 35th year, recently announced their 14th studio album, Circle of Giants, would be released on January 31, 2025 and would be backed by an extensive U.S. tour.  

    On Friday, fans filled the area in front of the stage well before the band’s scheduled 8pm start time.  As show-time approached, a nearly impassible wall of fans stretched beyond the listening room and out into an adjacent bar area.  The excitement and energy of the audience was palpable, as their legion of fans traded stories of their previous moe. concerts.

    Shortly after 8pm the band took to the stage and opened with their rendition of Pink Floyd’s “Interstellar Overdrive”.  The slow building instrumental would culminate in a full-blown rocker, show casing the traits which make moe. great, with upper tier orchestration as each band member took their turn at adding layers of improvisation.  The track would weave in the moe. original “Zed Nought Z” before returning to the outro of “Interstellar Overdrive”.  In all the sequence would last over 20 minutes.  

    The band would play two sets on Friday, with each set pushing beyond 90 minutes.  Set two featured the improv-heavy rocker “Timmy Tucker” garnering full-on audience participation on the chorus.  As the night approached midnight, the evening would come to a close. Fans poured out into the Syracuse streets, celebrating what they had just witnessed and already eagerly anticipating what could be in store for night two.

  • In Focus: Jessie Murph at the Landmark Theatre

    Jessie Murph brought an electrifying energy during her tour stop at the historic Landmark Theatre in Syracuse. With fans wrapped around the block, they were treated to an unforgettable night filled with emotions and powerhouse vocal performance that left them wanting more.

    The night opened with Big Yavo, an emerging artist from Alabama who delivered a set with southern charisma and sounds. His blend of hip-hop and rap had the crowd dancing on their feet, primed for what was to come, setting the perfect tone for Jessie’s entrance.

    The historic Landmark Theatre, with its architecture and old-world charm, was the perfect venue for Jessie’s soulful vibe. The 20 year-old Alabama native began her music career by sharing heartfelt covers and original songs on social media platforms, where her voice quickly gained widespread attention.

    Now, she’s made her place as a force in contemporary pop/country and R&B, captivating audiences with her unapologetically honest storytelling. Performing hits like “High Road,” “Sip,” “Pray” and “Heartbroken” had the crowd singing every word along making the Landmark echo with energy.

    Her breakout hit “High Road,” a collaboration with Koe Wetzel, dove into themes of resilience and facing personal battles. This track blends her emotive vocals with Wetzel’s gritty, country-rock influence, creating a unique crossover fans have welcomed with open arms.

    Another highlight of her career is “Heartbroken,” her collaborative hit with Diplo and Polo G, which blends electronic beats with her signature raw lyrics. This song’s success further cements her as a versatile artist capable of thriving across different musical landscapes.

    Beloved Syracuse waffle shop and live entertainment venue Funk ‘n Waffles has announced a four-night concert lineup to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

  • “Rise of the Roach” National Tour to Make Two Stops in NY

    Papa Roach and Rise Against Announce the Rise of the Roach North American Tour. They will hit Syracuse on Sep. 11 and Wantagh on Sep. 13, 2025.

    Papa Roach will join forces with Rise Against and special guest Underoath to embark on the first North American legs of the Rise of the Roach Tour in the spring and fall of 2025, marking a significant milestone as the two legendary rock bands unite for their first-ever outing together. 

    After the original, sold-out, UK and Europe legs of the tour, Rise of the Roach now continues throughout North America in 2025. The tour will hit over 30 major cities through the U.S. across two legs, including a stop at Northwell at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, on Saturday, Sep. 13, and Empower FCU Amphitheater in Syracuse on Wednesday, Sep. 11.

    Papa Roach will celebrate 25 years of their debut album Infest on tour by playing iconic tracks and fan-favorite deep cuts from their entire catalog. Rise Against is also celebrating 25 years since their formation and will be performing fan favorites and hits from its whole catalog. This tour will see the biggest production from Papa Roach to date. Both Papa Roach and Rise Against will perform some of the biggest hits in the Alternative Hard Rock genre on one stage every night.

  • The Great Salt City Blues Concert Comes to Syracuse in December for Eighth Edition

    The Great Salt City Blues Concert 8 has been announced for its annual return to Syracuse on December 26, this time at a new venue, the St. George Church Hall.

    The area’s best musicians will be paying tribute to the music of 4 Blues Hall Of Fame members: Michael Bloomfield (2012), Johnny “Guitar” Watson (2008), Ruth Brown (2002) & Big Bill Broonzy (a charter BHOF member). Michael Bloomfield was one of the first guitar heroes of his generation, who along with Eric Clapton, was considered an early influence on many aspiring Blues guitarist’s that followed the path of the Blues boom of the late 60’s and early 70’s. 

    The GREAT Salt City BLUES Concert 8 will also be paying tribute to, Johnny “Guitar” Watson, a Texas Blues guitar great who began recording in 1954 and later re-invented himself as a funk soul master, best known for writing and singing the classic 1977 R&B hit, “A Real Mother For Ya”. Ruth Brown is also a member of the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, inducted in 1993, mostly on the strength of 50’s classics Ruth recorded for Atlantic Records. Atlantic Records was then known as “the house that Ruth built” and Ruth a consistent hit maker and was their Queen of Rhythm & Blues.

    On the acoustic stage, The GREAT Salt City BLUES Concert 8 will pay tribute to the legendary Chicago Bluesman, Big Bill Broonzy, a Blues Hall of Fame artist who began performing in the 1920’s and continued to record until his death in 1958. His prolific writing skills include over 300 copyrighted compositions, including many Blues classics that formed the bedrock of Chicago Blues. The great Muddy Waters was one of his biggest fans and recorded many of Big Bill’s classics for Chess Records in the 50’s and 60’s.

    This year’s GREAT Salt City BLUES Concert 8 will be limited to 400 seated patrons and there is plenty of free parking at the Macedonian Orthodox Church parking lot. Food & beverages will be available and served by the church staff. Tickets are $30.00 advance / $40.00 at door, if available and go on sale, Nov. 1. You’ll want to jump on tickets now, as this show is sure to get packed quick.

     A series of 10 GREAT Salt City BLUES Concerts will be presented. This is concert #8 and each concert has been performed in front of a full capacity audience. Each concert is unique and never to be repeated with a changing line-up of performers featuring some of the area’s greatest musicians. Each concert is a thematic show honoring some of our greatest Blues Artists with participating musicians chosen specifically because they are best fitted for the show.

  • Pat Tato & the Baked Potatoes Return With Electrifying New Single “Spaceship”

    Pat Tato has announced the first release with his band, Pat Tato & The Baked Potatoes, titled “Spaceship”.

    Born out of the local SUNY Oneonta music scene in 2013, Pat Tato & the Baked Potatoes released their debut album ‘Loaded’ in 2016 after their graduation and were met with critical acclaim.

    Following this release, however, the unit found themselves in a hiatus as the original members moved throughout the country to pursue their own paths. Titular member Pat continued to play music and shifted to solo releases over the years with a different, lyrical, and ambitious sound.

    Cobbling together a new band, Pat Tato has emerged on festival circuits with a mixed set list of his newer works and older Baked Potato songs, evolving into the new sound has become uniquely ‘Pat Tato & the Baked Potatoes’.

    In an exciting announcement for fans old and new, the upcoming single “Spaceship” marks Tato’s newest release since “Heady” earlier this summer, and even more excitingly acts as the Baked Potatoes’ triumphant return to music- the track being their first release since 2016.

    Recorded in Syracuse Sound Studios in Brewerton paired with visuals by Danny of Guava God Creative, “Spaceship” indicates a bright, energetic new era for the group.

    With vibrant horns from Dan O’Herien and Sigurjon Stefansson, adventurous keys from Alex Seubert,  kicking percussion from Joey Wise, earworm bass licks from Shannon Zory, playful lyrics and vocals from Pat Tato himself, and more, “Spaceship” invites the listener on a journey of self-reflection, escapism, and the road to healing- that is, if the adventure also consisted of absolutely jamming out while rocketing through space.

  • Meet Mimicking Mars, Syracuse-Based Psychedelic Rockstars Bringing the Noise

    Mimicking Mars is a four-piece psychedelic indie-rock band formed in 2020 and currently playing out of Syracuse. The band originated in Monroe, NY and first came to notability in 2021.

    Mimicking Mars is known for their unique sound which blends indie rock with elements of psychedelic and alternative rock. The group started in 2020, with original members Jeremy Lanuti, James Dawson, Josh LeVisuer, and Bobby Malone, as a creative outlet, and quickly became something much more important to each of them. The group is now based in Syracuse NY, as they conquer a new phase for their career. 

    The band started writing and performing, and since starting has released 7 singles and is constantly performing live. Their shows are a must-see, as the band’s energy is infectious, and their music comes to life on stage. Mimicking Mars is not just a band, they are a collective of artists who strive to create an experience that is both authentic and meaningful. They’ve just released their debut studio album Janky Jones & the Blackjack Blues, which is currently available on all streaming platforms.

    Their debut studio album Janky Jones & the Blackjack Blues showcases the dedication, passion, and good vibes that this group has developed over the past three years. The band sees three upcoming shows for the remainder of the year. On October 31, they play at Al’s Wine and Whiskey in Syracuse. November 29 the group sees the stage at Barrel 28 in Florida, NY and then in Milford, PA on November 30.

  • Grateful Dead Take One Last Step Back in the Carrier Dome: 10/20/84

    On Octorber 20, 1984, The Grateful Dead played their third and final show at The Carrier Dome in Syracuse. It would be the last East Coast show of their Fall 1984 tour, following two nights at Brendan Byrne Arena in East Rutherford, NJ a few nights prior. Playing to a clearly packed Dome, the Dead throw down a vintage show full of original classic and noteworthy cover songs.

    After a brief warmup, the band jumps headlong into a bubbly and downright perky “Bertha.” Brent Mydland is engaged right from the get-go and peppers this one with soulful organ fills throughout before Jerry Garcia takes his first prolonged guitar solo of the evening. It’s not quite a segue, but at song’s end there is an immediate shift to “Greatest Story Every Told” with Bob Weir taking over on lead vocals and Mydland supplying harmonies. Garcia’s tone, again, sounds immaculate on guitar, providing a thick, funky vibe to this one. Once completed, after a brief tuning lull, Garcia starts up “West L.A. Fadeaway” and the Dead are off and running again in the Carrier Dome. It’s a somewhat slow and moody “Fadeaway” that works nicely in this early slot in the first set and even features some slight vocal effects.

    Things shift back to a bluesy mood with Weir taking back the mic on a classic run through of “C.C. Rider.” The full band soon gets involved and this is a version that reeks of blues and stretches out naturally. At it’s conclusion, Weir plays the role of traffic cop and leads everyone’s favorite crowd instruction for those crammed up front in “Take A Step Back,” replete with super echoey vocal effects for good measure.

    With this seemingly resolved, the band then leaps into a pleasant and lively “Ramble On Rose” with Garcia belting out the lyrics flawlessly. However, afterwards, Weir gets even more dire and serious with a second and third renditions of “Take A Step Back” that seems to be for the benefit of the crowded “bug-eyed” folks up front at the behest of the fire marshal. It’s pretty remarkable that a venue as massive as the Carrier Dome can have the floor fill up to near fire-hazard capacities.

    After a quick jaunt through “My Brother Esau” that almost sounds like it’s cut off preemptively at the end, “Birdsong” then starts the ending sequence of the first set with a poignant version that again sees Garcia up to the task on vocals. This one bobs and weaves for a while enjoyably before eventually straightening out, eliciting a long round of applause from the Syracuse faithful.

    There would be time for only one more number in this set and the Dead make it count and then some with a pristine “Jack Straw.” Garcia and Weir belt out the poignant lyrics from the outset on this one before it slowly intensifies into its usual pace with Garcia leading the charge with some impeccable work on the fret board. Once finished, Weir notifies the crowd that they’ll be right back and makes one more plead for everyone to “take a step back” before they leave the stage. Was the floor just oversold? People sneaking in from the sides? Maybe a little of both.

    The second set later begins with an audio clue of sorts, as some signature funked out tuning licks give way to a full fledged “Shakedown Street.” The Dead rip through the composed section which contains some more echoey vocal effects, clearly taking advantage of the Carrier Dome acoustics. This elicits a thoroughly funked out jam that sees the rhythm section fully engaged and on point, led by bassist Phil Lesh. This leads directly into the drum-heavy intro of “Samson & Delilah” in a true segue that’s executed flawlessly. An extended intro fuels a powerful take on this classic Dead number that features some more timely organ fills from Mydland although it doesn’t get stretched out very far, coming to a fairly abrupt stop. Things then get considerably more mellow with a heartfelt take of “He’s Gone,” a nod to the late Pigpen, one of the founding members of the Grateful Dead. Both the “steal your face right off your head” and “nothing left to do but smile” lyrics get noticeable rounds of applause from the Carrier Dome crowd and Garcia drops some more dazzling guitar licks in the middle of this one.

    “He’s Gone” elicits another soulful, bluesy extended jam which feeds directly into a quasi-bust out of sorts with the return of “Smokestack Lightning.” Before its last performance eleven days ago in Worcester, this one hadn’t been played by the Dead since March of 1972. Some beautiful interplay between Garcia and Mydland highlight this performance which fuels one of the more sizable and extended jams of the evening. Once it begins to dwindle out, this sets the stage for the “Drums” portion of the show with Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart, aka The Rhythm Devils, taking center stage on percussion.

    After the rest of the band returns to the stage, the closing leg of the show kicks off with “The Wheel” whose jam serves as the launching pad for a spirited “The Other One” that features some more sublime work on the piano from Mydland early on. It’s one of the more powerful songs of the whole show with Lesh dominating the rhythm on bass while Garcia throws in a bevy of fast-paced licks on guitar. As the jam lessens in intensity, it slowly funnels into a “Black Peter” with Garcia belting out the soulful lyrics flawlessly.

    Instead of getting stretched out, “Peter” shifts almost instantly to a rousing version of “Turn On Your Lovelight.” It sees Weir doing his best Pigpen impression with some soulful, freeform lyrics towards the end as the second set comes to a close. For an encore, the Dead treat the Carrier Dome to a cover of The Beatles’ “Revolution” with Garcia on lead vocals as the third and final show at this iconic Central New York venue comes to a close.

  • Mihali Announces Annual Mihalidaze Tour Dates

    Singer-songwriter Mihali has announced the dates for his annual Mihalidaze tour spanning nine venues across the Northeast, including three nights around New York State.

    Reggae artist Mihali Savoulidis has spent the past few years spreading his good vibes through sound and live performance. Formerly the frontman and founding member of rock band Twiddle, Mihali began his solo career formally in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, bringing in fans new and old with a series of singles and albums following in the following months and years.

    Most recently, Mihali has been on a collaboration streak, making tunes with the likes of Andy Frasco, Coyote Island, and Collie Buddz, in addition to touring the country as a solo headliner and supporting musical acts G. Love & Special Sauce and The Movement on their recent tours. 

    Wrapping his incredibly successful year in an exciting bow, Mihali has announced the 2024 dates of his annual ‘Mihalidaze’ holiday themed tour, returning to some of his favorite venues including a few in Syracuse, Saratoga, and Woodstock with both his live band and his solo looping act.

    Composed of Scott Hannay on keys, Adrian Tramontano on drums, Zdenek Gubb on bass, and Mihali himself on guitar and vocals, the band will kick off the tour in Massachusetts and make their way through the Northeast- including stops at the Westcott Theater on December 11, Putnam Place on December 12, and Bearsville Theater on December 14. A celebration of family, friends, and the holiday season, this tradition is not one to be missed.
