  • System Of A Down Announce MetLife Stadium Shows with Korn, Aug. 27 & 28, 2025

    Prog Metal legends System Of A Down have announced three stadium events for Summer 2025.

    The first will take place at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, on August 27 and 28 with Korn; the second show to be held at Soldier Field in Chicago, IL, on August 31 with Avenged Sevenfold, and the final show at Rogers Stadium in Toronto, ON, on September 3 with Deftones. Special guests Polyphia and Wisp will open for all three shows.

  • Trey Anastasio Will Resume Solo Tour in 2025

    Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio is once again going out on a solo acoustic tour in 2025, his first one in three years. The tour starts on March 8 in Springfield, MA at Symphony Hall and will cover a large swath of the Midwest and Southeast regions of the country through early April. It includes one New York gig on March 12 in Rochester at Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre. See all tour dates listed below.

  • Dogs In A Pile Announce Fall Tour Dates

    Asbury Park, New Jersey’s Dogs In A Pile have announced a slate of tour dates for the Fall. The tour begins with two shows at Philadelphia’s Brooklyn Bowl on October 25 and 26 and will see the band touring extensively throughout the Midwest and Southeast as they continue their upwards ascent in the jamband music scene. A presale for tickets is currently underway with the general on sale date set for Friday, August 10 with VIP packages available for some shows.

    This Fall Tour announcement comes on the heels of a busy summer for Dogs In A Pile that saw them headline multiple shows in Colorado, play several festivals, and jump on the road with Andy Frasco & The U.N. and Pigeons Playing Ping Pong. The band will now continue to surge forward with more Colorado shows scheduled before ending the tour in the Southeast in late November. They’re scheduled to play Asheville NC’s Salvage Station on November 19, Nashville TN’s Basement East on November 21, and the show at Atlanta GA’s Terminal West on November 22 is set to be the tour closer.

    As a burgeoning musical act beginning to gain nationwide notoriety, Dogs In A Pile is making a conscious effort to develop their fan base and build a unique culture around the band by organizing pre-show meetups for their beloved fanbase, the Dog Pound. So far, significant gatherings have occurred in cities like their hometown of Asbury Park, Denver (CO), Vail (CO), Austin (TX), and Woodstock (NY).     In addition to adding to their busy 2024 tour schedule, the band has also made a concerted effort this year to significantly bolster their YouTube channel with video livestreams and archival full-show releases. Consistent soundboard releases have accompanied their video efforts and most often have appeared on trusted streaming platforms nugs.net and Bandcamp within 24-hours of a show ending.

  • In Focus: Secret Dreams Festival Delights the Senses

    The third annual Secret Dreams Music and Arts Festival brought together many of the top acts in the EDM and jam scene, including Tipper, the Disco Biscuits, Daily Bread, Detox Unit, Papadosio, Lotus and many more.

    Secret Dreams went down in Legend Valley in Thornville, OH from July 18-20 and while the acts on the three main stages drew most of the attention there were workshops and art installations to delight the crowd as they explored to expansive grounds.

  • Hearing Aide: Dizgo “Melt”

    Bloomington, Indiana’s own Dizgo put out their third official studio LP, Melt on February 2nd. This follows the studio release of 2019’s Deeper, and their 2021 release of The Quarantine Compilation, an official live album.

    Since its release, the on-the-rise electro-jam-funk band has been extensively touring in support of the new album, playing 40+ shows so far this year alone across the entire US. Dizgo has also made a name for themselves on the festival circuit, with appearances at major festivals like Peach, Summer Camp and Resonance. They’ve also supported acts such as Goose and Parliament-Funkadelic.

    The quartet is made up of Andrew Pickel on guitar and vocals; Kevin Hinnefeld on bass, keys and vocals; Justin Clark on drums; and Jake Evatt on keys and vocals.

    One of the band’s strong suits and allures is their live improvisation; their ability to spontaneously communicate with each other in the moment is up there with the greats of the genre. With a melting pot of musical styles at their disposal, you never know what direction they’ll take their songs. Dizgo is effortlessly able to weave between musical styles at the drop of a hat. According to their biography, “Dizgo redefines the live experience by blending jamtronica with funk, deep-groove soul, and psychedelic rock, taking the audience on a musical journey that includes intricate compositions and extended improvisation. The result is something both danceable and introspective: soulful vocals, interweaving analog synths and shredding guitar all of which join forces under the banner of Dizgo.” 

    Melt does a great job at capturing elements of everyone’s favorite jamband and turning that unique blending of genres into a style and sound completely of their own. These influence’s shine throughout the record. When speaking on the album, the band shares, “When everything goes right, we all ‘melt’ into one collective unit, experiencing time & space together. The special moment where music connects and creates community – melting together a bond between the music, musician, and listener.”

    Melt begins with the extremely funky “It’s Alright” right out of the gate. A catchy melody, synthesizer funk, grooving bass and the positive message that “it’s gonna be alright” lead into a tremendous guitar solo that brings the song to its peak. 

    Melt continues with this trend of up-beat danceable synthesizer funk. “Rainbow Lightning” keeps the energy high, and contains an extremely tight composed middle section. Dizgo composed harmonies in regard to the vocals and instrumentation are well executed and with intention. Even their prog influenced tracks, such as “Liquefaction” keep things spontaneous and danceable, despite its heavy nature at times.

    Throughout the multiple genre-bending piece, the band is able to immediately bring us into a world of heavy metal and then at the snap of a finger transition into a buttery funk groove. Eventually this leads into a tranquil bliss that grows into a blistering guitar solo to end the tune. Their songwriting also has pop influences, notably on their tracks “Honey” and “Help Is On the Way”. Both of these songs were released as official singles. The album ends with one final bang, “Whiteout” a slow-building spacey introduction leads us into an ear-worm hook that you don’t want to end.

    With less than a month away from Electric Forest 2024 many are eager to get back to the magic along the secluded acres of Michigan. With the unlimited amount of music to hear and activities to participate in, it can be overwhelming deciding where to go and who to see. Luckily, NYS Music has broken down some of the highlights that shouldn’t go unnoticed.

    Top 10 Acts to See at Electric Forest 2024

    1. Excision

    This comes as no surprise as the crowned dubstep DJ has without a doubt paved the way for EDM. Excision is a producer that knows the secret to making his set better is through listening to his fans. His expertise in the art meshed with his devotion to the fan experience is what makes his sets a must see. He utilizes immersive visuals that have even Kanye West amazed and seeking this kind of talent on his team. All headbangers will pile in for his performance and you should too!

    2. Pretty Lights

      It’s been a decade since Pretty Lights has been to Rothbury and that’s what has people absolutely going wild for his name on this lineup. This musical project fuses electronic beats, poetic samples, modular synthesizers, and live musicians. This set is about to transport listeners to cosmic planes with his light show. Pretty Lights’ 5 year hiatus has allowed to him to construct his new inter-dimensional sound-ship system that will utilize numerous mediums. 

      3. INZO

      If you are a fan of introspective music compiled with euphoric feelings then INZO has the show for you. This young artist is known for blending Alan Watts spokesmen speeches into his tunes that brings nothing but beautiful energy into the atmosphere. He encapsulates what Electric Forest is all about and his set is about to enhance all the magic that this festival has.

      4. The Disco Biscuits

      This band is no surprise to everyone that has seen them live at least once in their lifetime. The Disco Biscuits are pioneers of “trance-fusion,” bridging the gap between EDM and jam rock. So for all jam lovers wanting to delve deeper into EDM and all bass fiends looking to branch out, this band is the answer for you. Philadelphia’s own brings people together because you just can’t help but dance.

      5. Everything Always

      All house music lovers are undeniably not missing this iconic performance and you shouldn’t either. This project is brought together by two booming producers in the industry who have taken over the mainstream scene as well from their catchy songs. Dom Dolla and John Summit are huge names in the festival space. Each track they release has toppled the charts so seeing them together is going to bring a set that is one to remember. 

      6. Subtronics

      Bassheads and riddem connoisseurs will always catch a Subtronics set. Heavy bass might deter some people from seeing certain artists. However, Subtronics has to be one of the most talented producers in the game right now and if you miss seeing him then you’re missing out. Each summer festival set he plays is so different from the last. He constantly is bringing in new mixes, insane visuals, and crazy drops that always get jaws floored. Subtronics is an artist who if you miss out on him now you will regret it later.

      7. Boogie T

      Boogie T has always brought the funk into EDM. He gets weird with his sound in the best way possible. His Louisiana roots give his tunes a twang that dubstep hasn’t seen. The myriad of instruments he utilizes enhances his artistry and obviously there is no choice at that point but to boogie.

      8. Lettuce

      Bring your greens to this performance because the vibes will be effortlessly high. This GRAMMY Award nominated six-piece feeds the souls of many with their music. With over three decades together, Lettuce has cemented their status as boundary pushing innovators. Their sound compiles jazz chords, psychedelic passages, big horns and hip-hop elements.

      9. LSZEE

      This project has fans going absolutely insane. LSDREAM and CloZee join together for a duo performance that is about to be a moment in EDM history. Both producers have left their mark on the scene with their soul transformative music. Now that they’re coming together this is only going to transcend that but ten-fold over. They spent the past year writing an album together and meshing their artistry. All of which will debut right at Electric Forest. Both artists dedicate their music to the human experience and allowing their audience to reconnect with the Earth around them. Forest attendees will be the first to get a glimpse of this meditative and enriching experience.

      10. The String Cheese Incident

      Last but most definitely not least is the Electric Forest founders themselves; The String Cheese Incident. This jam band from Colorado has had 30 years under their belt to build their unique sound. They utilize bluegrass sounds and rock to bring a groovy show to their fans. They are the backbone of Electric Forest and always have a big iconic moment to celebrate the festivities. The group always plays two sets so make it your mission to catch at least one!

      This is just a short list of the astounding talent that Electric Forest has to offer in 2024. Their is countless other artists to put on here that will have excellent performances to catch. But that’s the magic of Forest, have your list of people to see but see where the trees end up taking you. This is how you find your new favorite artist. Maybe they will be playing on the Honey Comb stage at 2am. Or maybe their joining on stage fro a surprise b2b. The beauty is in the unknown. So go get lost and see what you end up finding!

    1. In Focus: Ty Segall at Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland

      On Sunday, May 5, Ty Segall played the Beachland Ballroom in support of his latest album, Three Bells. Sharpie Smile opened and played a great set. Just as Ty and his band took the stage you could hear a crackling noise. It sounded like it could have come out of the speakers, like some weird wet sounding feedback.

      After the puzzled crowd looked around for a bit, everyone noticed that a sizable chunk of plaster from the venues old ceiling had fallen off on one side, and a piece was still left hanging in the balance. A hero from the venue used a precariously large ladder to grab the piece while an amused Ty and his band watched from the stage. After our hero pulled the plaster down, the crowd roared in approval and the show was once again on it’s way. I will also say that this is the only concert I have ever been to where someone from the venue came out and warned us to wear ear plugs. With no pit and myself situated right in front of the stage and about six inches from a guitarist amp, my tinnitus was happy I didn’t forget mine.

      A Ty Segall show is probably not ideal when the state of the ceiling is questionable, his new album was heavily featured and it is certainly hard and blistering. Though as far as I am aware, the rest of the night went by without incident, even if it seemed like Ty and his other guitarist Emmett Kelly were egging each other on to bring down more ceiling.

      Ty played a great set, with all of the hard rock proggy guitar solos you could want. The band really plays off Ty’s energy and the packed Cleveland crowd at it up. Some people don’t like it when a band plays so many new songs versus more of the hits, but I think prefer it. It shows that the band is still pushing forward and if they are excited about what they are doing it almost always translates to a better show. Next Ty heads out west before heading to Europe.

    2. Chick Corea & Bela Fleck “Remembrance” – Duo’s Final Album, due in May

      Béla Fleck reflects highly on his years-long collaboration with late pianist Chick Corea, sounding like a bashful student musician, still in awe of the jazz legend whose impact transformed him as a teenager in the ’70s. The duo’s album, Remembrance – out May 10 via Thirty Tigers – serves as a moving final document of the profound creative and personal rapport Fleck and Corea have showcased previously on 2007’s Latin Grammy-winning The Enchantment.

      Released just over three years after Corea’s passing, Remembrance serves as an addendum to Corea’s legacy, highlighted by three previously unreleased Corea compositions as well as five short free improvisations, or impromptus, that Fleck has infused with written music.

      Recorded both live in concert, over the duo’s final tour dates in 2019, Remembrance was crafted by trading sound files amid the Covid pandemic. Running a stylistic gamut, the album features Corea’s unreleased tunes “Enut Nital” (“Latin Tune,” spelled backwards), and “Continuance,” an older work that resurfaced in the duo’s setlist, as well as new Fleck compositions, including “The Otter Creek Incident” and “Juno,” a winsome tribute to his son, the channeling Thelonious Monk and Scarlatti, and challenging exercises such as “Small Potatoes,” which evokes Corea’s work in the jazz avant-garde. 

      When the 18-time Grammy Award-winning banjoist reflected on his time collaborating with Corea, Fleck said, “I just feel so lucky to have played with him in such an intimate way, and to have gotten to know him so well.”

      The title track, a Corea composition “Remembrance,” is one of the last pieces of music Chick ever recorded. “It’s just one of those perfect Chick Corea tunes,” Fleck says. “It sounds to me like a New Orleans funeral march, even though it has a Latin component, like everything he did tended to.”

      Corea’s death in 2021 devastated the jazz community, who saw the pianist as a constant international presence, a vibrant musician who never ceased touring and recording. “It was a deep shock,” says Fleck, who also released an inspired live project with Corea, Two, in 2015. “It was one of the special relationships in my life. He was just so kind to me, and so helpful, and I learned so much from him.” 

      “We pushed this duo to a new place before we ran out of time,” says Fleck, who produced Remembrance. “We have here another cool look at Chick Corea, at the different ways that he can play that we wouldn’t have had. There’s a lot of great Chick Corea out there, and this is different.”

      “I know it sounds unlikely. But it really happened. Once upon a time, I played banjo in a duo with Chick Corea.”

      “He found the good in everything. I’m just so glad to be a part of this — glad I could be with him, and glad there’s more to share.”

    3. Spafford Releases 2024 Summer Tour Dates Featuring Multiple New York Shows

      As Spafford continues their spring tour in Colorado, they’ve now announced their summer tour dates which include two more New York shows. The Arizona-based jam band will get a full view of the Empire State with shows scheduled in a variety of areas as well as an upcoming one at New York City’s Brooklyn Bowl on April 20.

      Spafford’s summer tour pays special attention to the East Coast and Midwest with the tour starting in Michigan with performances slated in Ludington and Paw Paw. It then heads out to Illinois, New Hampshire for the Northlands Music Festival, and multiple New York stops.

      The first one is on June 12 at Rochester’s Water Street Music Hall. Three days later, Spafford is set to play Colony in Woodstock, a New York town with a rich musical history all its own.  The band then wraps up their time in NY with a stop on Long Island at The Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett. See below for a full list of upcoming Spafford shows. The tour includes multiple stops and cities the band has yet to play.

    4. Billy Strings Announces Summer 2024 Tour Dates

      Billy Strings has announced additional tour dates for 2024 that find he and his band playing back-to-back nights in Bridgeport, CT, State College, PA, Worcester, MA, Inglewood, CA and Berkeley, CA.

      The summer dates are just the latest added to Strings’ extensive 2024 run, which also includes upcoming stops at Tampa’s Yuengling Center (two nights), St. Augustine’s St. Augustine Amphitheatre (three nights, all sold out), Lexington’s Rupp Arena (two nights, one sold out), Greenwood Village’s Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre (two nights, both sold out), Minneapolis’ The Armory (sold out) and Rosemont, IL’s Allstate Arena (two nights) among others.

      Raised in Michigan and now based in Nashville, Strings is known as one of music’s most compelling artists. Most recently, he released “Meet Me At The Creek > Pyramid Country > Must Be Seven > Meet Me At The Creek (Live at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Winston-Salem, NC 3/4/23),” a 38-minute live performance that showcases the energy of Strings’ electric concerts.       The track follows “California Sober,” his GRAMMY-nominated collaboration with legendary artist Willie Nelson and Strings’ first project since partnering with Reprise Records, as well as his latest full-length album, Me/And/Dad, which features Strings alongside his dad, Terry Barber, and was nominated for Best Bluegrass Album at this year’s GRAMMY Awards.  

      Since his 2017 debut, Strings has been awarded Best Bluegrass Album at the 63rd GRAMMY Awards, Artist of the Year at the 2023 and 2022 Americana Music Awards, Entertainer of the Year at the 2023, 2022 and 2021 International Bluegrass Music Awards, Best New Headliner at the 2022 Pollstar Awards and Breakthrough Artist of the Pandemic at the 2021 Pollstar Awards among several other accolades. He has also performed on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” PBS’ “Austin City Limits” and “Bluegrass Underground.”
