Kingston-based rock band Hide and Shine announced the release of their debut single, “Detroit Rising” along with their upcoming debut album Soft Machines. The single is out now on all streaming services with the debut album releasing on June 7.
Hide and Shine call themselves the stewards of this kind of music, tasked with translating the images and commands of the unconscious world, into the sounds and words of this world. The sounds reflect a range of themes, across seven decades of American and British music. Their lyrics often hint at esoteric themes.
The band recorded and produced their debut album and had the great privilege of mixing it with Steve Albini. The next batch of 14 songs is already being recorded, prior to the debut being released. There is much work ahead.
The track begins with an energy and has tones reminiscent of Queens of the Stone Age. “Detroit Rising” has a consistent, punching drumbeat, dynamic riffs throughout, and a very catchy and fun set of lyrics. The track is a promising debut from an all-new rock group. There is definite influence from classic rock and also alternative, indie, and hard rock. There are elements of southern rock twang, alternative overdrive tones, and other little nuances of various genres. The track is quite catchy and brings me excitement to see what else Hide and Shine can produce.

In the heart of Rochester, the Kodak Center underwent a transformation from a serene theater to a pulsating temple of rock guitar mastery as Joe Satriani and Steve Vai, two legends of the genre, graced the stage for an evening that would etch itself into the memories of all in attendance. The last time Vai played this venue was in 2022.
Everyone could feel the anticipation as fans settled into their seats with an early door open time of 6pm. Suddenly, the lights dimmed, and a hush fell over the crowd as Steve Vai, with his signature charisma, merged onto the stage. The first chords of “Avalancha,” a powerful track from his latest album Inviolate, reverberated through the venue, instantly igniting a fervor among the audience. Vai’s virtuosity knew no bounds as he effortlessly navigated through his setlist, each song a testament to his unparalleled skill and showmanship. From the intricate melodies of “Building the Church” to the soul-stirring “Tender Surrender,” Vai held the audience captive with his mesmerizing performance.
But Vai was not alone in his musical journey. Alongside him stood a formidable ensemble of musicians: Dante Frisiello on guitar, Philip Bynoe on bass, and Jeremy Colson on drums. Together, they formed a tight-knit unit, their synergy evident in every note they played. As Vai dazzled the crowd with his guitar acrobatics, his bandmates provided the perfect backdrop, their thunderous rhythms driving the momentum of the performance.
Yet, what truly set Vai apart was his ability to connect with his audience on a deeper level. With every flick of his wrist and every bend of a string, he invited the crowd into his world, forging an intimate bond that transcended the confines of the stage. Whether he was exchanging playful banter with his bandmates or locking eyes with fans in the front row, Vai made each person in the audience feel like they were part of something special.
As Vai’s set drew to a close, the energy in the theater reached a fever pitch, leaving the audience hungry for more. But before they could catch their breath, the stage was set ablaze once again, this time by the one and only Joe Satriani.
From the moment Satriani stepped into the spotlight, it was clear that he meant business. Dressed all in black, with his iconic sunglasses perched atop his head, Satriani exuded an aura of confidence and command. With his bandmates Kenny Aronoff on drums, Bryan Beller on bass, and Rai Thistlethwayte on keyboards and guitar by his side, Satriani launched into a set that was nothing short of electrifying.
Each song was a masterclass in guitar wizardry, from the searing riffs of “The Extremist” to the haunting melodies of “Always With Me, Always With You.” But it was Satriani’s infectious energy and genuine passion for his craft that truly set him apart. As he tore across the stage, his fingers flying effortlessly across the fretboard, Satriani seemed to be in his element, a man possessed by the music.
But perhaps the most remarkable aspect of Satriani’s performance was his unwavering smile. Throughout the entire set, Satriani wore a grin that could light up the darkest of rooms, a testament to his sheer joy in sharing his music with the world. And as he closed out the evening with a series of collaborative performances alongside Vai, the mutual respect and admiration between the two guitar virtuosos was evident for all to see. The first encore song was a song written by both Satriani and Vai. It was titled “The Sea of Emotion part I”, that was released on March 29.
As the final notes faded away and the curtain fell, the audience was left breathless, their hearts still pounding with the echoes of Satriani and Vai’s epic performance. For those fortunate enough to bear witness to this musical spectacle, it was more than just a concert, it was an experience that would stay with them forever, a testament to the enduring power of rock ‘n’ roll.

On a rainy April evening, April 2, 2024 to be exact, mgk and Trippie Redd brought their brand new EP genre : sadboy to the Irving Plaza stage for its first ever live performance.
A week prior, the pair got fans excited by releasing a video for their song “lost boys,” as well as a short documentary about their time creating the album. Tickets to the show were free and given to fans through a raffle and needless to say that mgk and Trippie fans showed out on Tuesday night, packing the house.

The two opened up the show performing the first five songs off of their new tracklist. The album gives catchy choruses while maintaining a sad tone. Through their words the two artists explore their personal experiences with drugs, relationships and depression. Although the EP is brand new, mgk and Trippie’s longtime fans already knew all of the words.

After the first five tracks, the Ohio native artists started taking turns performing some of their solo music. Trippie Redd started things off with his 3x platinum track “Taking a Walk,” and mgk followed with “PRESSURE.” They then went back and forth one more time with Trippie performing “Wish,” and mgk performing “dont let me go.” Although short, the throwback portion of the show provided a nice reminder to what these two established artists have accomplished in the past.
Following their four track throwback session, mgk and Trippie Redd continued with the next four tracks of their EP which all helped showcase both artists use of soft tones and dreamy, but also dark, fairytale-like sounds. mgk and Trippie then brought back some more of their old music, with mgk performing “my ex’s best friend,” “all I know,” and “Candy,” all with the crowd at full energy, screaming every word back to mgk. Trippie sang a beautiful rendition of “Fuck Love” his 2017 that he created alongside XXXTENTACION.
With only one track from the EP unsung, the artists started to go back and perform some songs for the second time. They repeated “lost boys” and “beauty” before mgk invited a fan, who had a message on his phone saying he could rap “el Diablo” faster than him, onto the stage. mgk and the fan went bar for bar together rapping the song, and then had a warm embrace at the end before the fan left the stage. Then mgk and Trippie performed “time travel” and “struggles” off of their new EP, for a second time.

To close out the show, mgk performed “Wild Boy” with some acapella verses, as well as “I Think I’m OKAY.” Finally, mgk and Trippie performed the only song off of “genre : sadboy” that had yet to be played, “summer’s gone.” At the end of the song the two artists dropped down off of the stage to greet the fans at the front barricade, before finally departing.

Rock group The FMs have announced the upcoming “Frankie Fest” music festival honoring the late Frankie Rex in Coney Island this May 11. The festival sees a stellar lineup of NYC queer bands and performers and marks the festival’s inaugural opening.
The event will also serve as the record release party for PINK + BLACK and features the first performance from The FMs in over four years – and the first-ever without Frankie. Frankie Fest highlights a range of cutting-edge, NYC-based queer performers showcasing indie rock, goth, riot grrrl, punk, metal, and more. Featured acts include Pink Velvet Witch, Jordan Fiction, Villains, Llynks, The FMs, Frida Kill, Miss Cherry Delight and more.
Their sophomore double album was completed the moment the pandemic started. It is now making its release after the tragic death of singer Frankie Rex in 2022. The material highlights the group’s love of analog synthesizers combined, ethereal guitars and takes a more emotionally dynamic turn. This contrasts their debut album spanning themes from sexual irreverence, the nature of dreams and human connection, to hope for the future of gender freedom.
The show begins May 11 in Coney Island. Doors for the show open at 4pm and music lasts until 10pm. The FMs will release PINK + BLACK on May 10.

NYC-based rock band The Felice Brothers have released a new single “Crime Scene Queen,” and announced their US and European headlining tour that will kick off at Bowery Ballroom on July 11.
With the tour announcement, The Felice Brothers have also announced they have signed to Conor Oberst’s new record label, Million Stars, and will release their new album, Valley of Abandoned Songs,on June 27. The 13-song collection consists of recordings primarily from sessions for the band’s 2019 album, Undress, as well as their most recent release, 2023’s Asylum On The Hill, both of which were captured live in an 1870s church with the band’s current lineup of Ian Felice on guitar and vocals, James Felice on piano and vocals , Jeske Hume on bass, and Will Lawrence drums.
When describing their new single “Crime Scene Queen,” the bands’ guitarist Ian Felice explains, “The one lyric I had when I started to write this song was ‘through the palms of pleasure island, an ominous wind began to blow.’ The rest of the story was built around that image. Humphrey Bogart’s character in The Big Sleep might also have played some role. It was recorded on the final day of our sessions for Asylum On The Hill.
“A few years ago, I started revisiting old demos that had never seen the light of day and recordings that hadn’t found a home on previous albums, and I started thinking of them as the Valley of Abandoned Songs,” explains Ian Felice. “At a certain point, I realized that I had a particular group of tunes that worked really well as an album, and so I shared it with Conor, along with my idea to post it online, but he immediately texted back that he loved it so much he wanted to start a new record label just to put it out.”
After signing the band to his new label, Conor Oberst shared, “I first encountered the Felice Brothers in 2007 after being given some of their music by a friend. I liked it a lot, but there was something I couldn’t put my finger on—singular and mysterious. An iconoclastic version of what some lazy people call “Americana”. I subsequently met them and played shows together. They became some of my best friends, family, really. I put out two of their records on the label I co-owned at the time, called Team Love.
Connor added, “then we started to perform together with them as my backing band and made a record of mine called Salutations. Needless to say, I love this band, and when I asked that horrible question, ‘Who is your favorite band?’ I always answer ‘The Felice Brothers.’ So when Ian sent me this new collection of songs and told me they just planned to put it up on the internet, I kind of flipped out, because they were so goddamn good. And then I did something I swore I would never do again: I started a new record label. This is my third. It is called Million Stars, and I am so proud to say the new Felice Brothers album is our first release. I can’t quit them. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.”
Valley of Abandoned Songs follows the bands’ surprise releaseAsylum On The Hill, which was released exclusively on Bandcamp in December, and their 2021 album From Dreams To Dust which was praised by many.
With the release of the new single, “Crime Scene Queen“, The Felice Brothers will release their new album Abandoned Songs on June 27 before they headline their US and European tour set to kick off this summer and the band perform in New York at Bowery Ballroom on July 11. Presented by Caroga Arts Collective, the Caroga Lake Music Festival is a multi-genre music festival presenting a series of world-class performances in the Southern Adirondacks. Since the festival’s founding in 2012, CMLF has grown from a one-week chamber music festival to an internationally recognized festival showcasing a multitude of genres from May to September. The mainstay is a five-week summer residency featuring renowned soloists, chamber musicians, and orchestral professionals in collaboration with international touring guest artists.
Located on the shore of West Caroga Lake, Sherman’s Park is the home base for the Caroga Lake Music Festival. Known as a venue for iconic big bands in the 1920s and 1930s, Sherman’s provides the perfect up-close setting for an engaging and memorable concert-going experience. Caroga Lake Music Festival regularly attracts thousands of audience members from locally and afar to its concerts, helping spur tourism and economic growth for the town. Caroga Arts is proud to welcome concertgoers of all ages to ride the George and Ruth Abdella Carousel before every 2024 CLMF concert at Sherman’s Park.
Each summer, it’s a joy to bring artists, audiences and communities together for concerts, events and memories along the lake. It’s hard to believe we started this 13 seasons ago when we were only teenagers and now those same artists are going on to win the Grammys, playing in Carnegie Hall and touring across the world. CLMF resides at the core of Caroga Arts mission to reimagine the Adirondack Experience through the power of the arts. By showcasing a diverse group of artists ranging across genres, generations, and geographies, we are confident this year’s lineup features something for everyone.

Other highlights will include: “Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue at 100,” performed by Caroga Arts Ensemble and conducted by Grammy winner David Alan Miller, with Kevin Cole on piano; The return of the free Kids Carousel Concert series including a performance of Louie the Loon, back by popular demand; The Queen’s Cartoonists and collaborations with Running Wild Media and Utica Dance; and Multi-instrumentalist and musical prodigy Eddie Benjamin, who toured with superstar Justin Bieber, collaborates with Caroga Arts Ensemble.
In the Fall of 2023, Caroga Arts launched the String Project & Arts Collaborative Education (SPACE) program in Wheelerville and Johnstown schools. This groundbreaking initiative aims to deliver accessible music lessons and mentorship opportunities to students in schools where the offerings are not otherwise provided in their music programs. This summer marks another milestone for Caroga Arts as they introduce the SPACE Summer Camp, previously recognized as the CLMF Lessons & Ensemble Program. The camp is designed to continue the momentum of providing individual and small group lessons throughout the summer, offering students the opportunity to learn from the esteemed Resident Artists.
We are thrilled to provide returning and new engaging workshops for all ages and levels through the SPACE Summer Camp. Each summer, our education programs have proven to be a rewarding experience for all involved — the Resident Artist instructors, our community of music students, and all attendees of our annual showcase. As we expand arts education offerings to support our youngest students to our senior amateur musicians, the summer program remains a beloved tradition that allows us to build on our year-round resources and provide opportunities for musicians of all ages to hone their musical talents.

English rock band Glass Animals have announced their North American and UK/Europe 2024 “Tour Of Earth” which will include a show at the Madison Square Garden (MSG) on August 13.
With the tour announcement, the Grammy nominated band Glass Animals have also shared the details of their highly anticipated fourth studio album, I Love You So F***ing Much, which is set for release on July 19. The album is introduced by the band’s new single accompanied by the visualizer “Creatures in Heaven,” which is out to stream everywhere.
The band’s upcoming album, I Love You So F***ing Much is the follow-up to their 2020’s critically acclaimed album Dreamland, which sold over 12 million copies globally and gave life to their single “Heat Waves,” which became the band’s record-breaking song. The single was the the first song by a British band since the Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” which went number one in 1995 for five consecutive weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, and also their first song to reach number one with a single writer and producer since Pharell’s “Happy”.
The four-man band’s line-up consists of Dave Bayley on vocals, guitar, keyboards, drums, songwriting, Drew MacFarlane on guitar, keyboards, backing vocals, Edmund Irwin-Singer on bass, keyboards, backing vocals, and Joe Seaward on drums. When talking about the upcoming album, the band’s frontman Dave found himself struggling to make sense of this newfound global stardom, having watched it all happen while the world was in lockdown.
He shared, “Life can change dramatically, but sometimes you aren’t able to change as quickly on a personal level. You end up feeling like a spectator. And then you are asked and expected to be a certain type of person, a different person. But…I wasn’t sure how. It confused me to the point of not knowing who I was or if anything was real.” It took being stranded on a cliff in a wooden house on stilts during one of California’s biggest storms in history to push that feeling into a full existential crisis.
In forced isolation, watching trees tumble down mountains and assuming “death was coming,” Dave began asking questions of himself, of the universe, and of the human experience: namely, love. As he came to accept himself as an introvert, Dave realized that “human connection and the love between us is much bigger, more important, and more complex than anything else”. “Creatures in Heaven” is the sublime first glimpse into ten intimate love stories set against the backdrop of the universe.
Glass Animals’ Tour Of Earth will include key support acts from Kevin Abstract, Eyedress, Blondshell and The Big Moon. Tickets will be available starting with an artist presale beginning on April 9 at 10 AM. Additional pre sales will run throughout the week ahead of the general on-sale beginning on Thursday, April 11 at 10 AM at glassanimals.com.
