  • Bullet for My Valentine and Trivium Announce Co-Headlining Tour

    Bullet for My Valentine and Trivium have announced their co-headlining “The Poisoned Ascendancy Tour”, including a stop at The Rooftop at Pier 17 in Manhattan on May 7.

    Both heavy metal pioneers in their own rights, Bullet for My Valentine and Trivium are celebrating prolific 20th anniversaries this year – Bullet for My Valentine honors 20 years since their debut album The Poison, and Trivium celebrates their second album, Ascendancy. With long histories of releases and successes between both acts, The Poisoned Ascendancy Tour is not to be missed.

    A mainstay within the metal community and British music as a whole since inception, Bullet for My Valentine has amassed more than 3.5 million album sales all while touring the globe since their inception in 1998 and signing with Sony BMG in 2002. Their debut album as well as their reason for celebration this tour, Bullet for My Valentine’s The Poison resulted in immediate success, bringing the band to number 11 on the Independent Albums chart and 128 on the Billboard 200 alongside a lengthy tour in addition to appearances opening for Metallica and Guns N’ Roses, and the 2006 Vans Warped Tour.

    Since The Poison’s release, the band has released six other studio albums, earned several nominations and awards from KERRANG! and beyond, and toured countless times worldwide, but the debut album will always remain in the hearts of the fans as well as the band itself for marking such powerful beginnings.

    Formed in 1999, heavy metal band Trivium has been touring their personal spin on metal for over 20 years now. With ten studio albums, a few name awards under their belt, and several nominations including a Grammy nomination in 2019, Trivium’s success is not unearned. Their now canonical and second album ever Ascendancy is a testament to this- named KERRANG!’s “Album of the Year”, one of the top fifteen albums on Metal Hammer’s list of “The 100 Greatest Metal Albums of the 21st Century”, and earning the band a gold certification in the UK, there’s little question as to why Ascendancy is topic of celebration for the upcoming tour.

    A celebration of how far both headlining acts have come and where they began, The Poisoned Ascendancy Tour will be the final time both acts will perform their iconic debut albums in full. With incredible company in each other as well as the opening acts, this tour will hit close to home for both older fans who were there to see every step of the way as well as newer fans who never had the chance to catch the earlier releases live.

    In addition to the two iconic acts, August Burns Red, Bleed From Within, and Sylosis will accompany the tour.   • Watch Consider the Source “Mouthbreather” off Latest Release “The Stare”

    Consider the Source has released their eighth studio album, The Stare, along with a pro-shot video for the track “Mouthbreather.”

    Formed in 2004 after a particularly successful jam session, Consider the Source has been releasing music and touring the globe for two decades now. Influenced by Turkish, Bulgarian, North and South Indian styles filtered through jazz, rock, and psychedelic sounds, the band’s sound can only be encompassed as “Consider the Source”. 

    The group’s newest release, The Stare, is the product of a story from years prior to Consider the Source’s conception. In 1992 David Prater, the producer of The Stare, worked on the up and coming progressive rock band Dream Theater’s breakthrough album- a work each of the founding members of Consider the Source absolutely fell in love with. Years later the members had found themselves in a band of their own, and in a full circle moment as the new album became a culmination of both the band and Prater’s talents.

    Tour cut short due to the Covid-19 pandemic and spread across the country remotely, Consider the Source reached out to Prater after a chance encounter at a small local venue a few years prior that had formed the connection. Excited to return to a semblance of normalcy and routine, the band and Prater collaborated initially over Zoom before eventually road tripping to a house in which the only things to do were eat, sleep, and talk music. 

    The Stare captures the rare energy of the pandemic and the live artist’s experience- all of the creative energy that had been bottlenecked is on full display, and it’s beyond evident in each second of the tracks. It’s a creative feat that defies the emotional limits of isolation, leaving everything out on the metaphorical stage- a product of the pandemic, yes, but also a work that showcases how music is inherently a magnetic force for community and togetherness in the face of uncertainty.

    In addition to the album’s release, Consider the Source has released a pro-shot video for the final track, “Mouthbreather.” A stunning seven and a half minute performance, the band’s showmanship is on full display.

  • Metallica to Bring ‘M72’ World Tour to Syracuse

    Metallica has announced an expansion to their three year M72 World Tour with 21 North American Dates, including one night in New York at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse on April 19, 2025.

    Barely needing any introduction, Metallica is one of the biggest selling acts in American history and have been leaving their heavy metal mark on the world since the band’s inception in 1981. Known as one of the “big four” bands of thrash metal alongside Megadeth, Anthrax, and Slayer, Metallica has rather humble origins.

    Formed through newspaper ads and mutual friends, the band had found themselves traveling to Rochester, New York in a stolen U-Haul to record their first album in 1983, resulting in their debut album Kill ‘Em All which quickly caught the underground metal scene by storm.

    Metallica just couldn’t stop the success from there, their third album Master of Puppets being hailed by fans as both the band’s best work and one of heaviest metal albums ever, their fourth album …And Justice for All earning the band its first Grammy nomination, and their fifth achieving mainstream commercial success not seen before with more than 16 million copies. 

    With 11 studio albums, 10 Grammys, and 37 tours under their belt, Metallica is a metal legend to be reckoned with- but they aren’t done yet. Having begun the M72 World Tour in April of 2023 in celebration of the band’s latest studio album 72 Seasons, Metallica has announced 21 additional North American Dates that will push the tour through 2025.

    The band will be paying a visit to New York on April 19, playing a show at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse. Supported by heavy metal band Pantera and thrash band Suicidal Tendencies, this tour is not to be missed.

    As is tradition with Metallica, a portion of all ticket sales will go to local charities through the band’s All Within My Hands foundation that was established in 2017 so they could give back to the communities who have supported them throughout the years. Thus far, All Within My Hands has raised over $15 million, which has provided $8.2 million in grants to career and tech education programs including the ground-breaking Metallica Scholars Initiative, over $3.6 million to combat food insecurity, and more than $3.5 million to disaster relief funds.

  • Zach Bryan’s “Oak Island” Music Video Shot in Schenectady

    Zach Bryan’s newest music video for “Oak Island” featuring actors Casey Affleck and Jack Martin has recently been released after being filmed in Schenectady this past August.

    Country singer-songwriter Zach Bryan has channeled his innermost emotions into folk melody, country sound, and raw, cutting lyrics since he came into the public light in 2019. One of many of his first songs to be uploaded onto his YouTube channel, “Heading South” was recorded outside of his Navy barracks by phone only minutes after he had written the song.

    The video quickly caught traction and ended up going viral, with just under 30.5 million views as of September 2024.  Since skyrocketing into fame, Bryan has stuck to the same principles that had captured the public, delivering lyrically raw, human songs that leave it all out on the table.

    Released on September 10, Zach Bryan’s music video for “Oak Island” delivers the gut wrenchingly human and emotional narratives he’s known for once again. One of 19 tracks from Bryan’s newest album, “Oak Island” tells the story of a jaded older brother with mistakes of his own watching his younger brother fall down the same path. 

    In “Oak Island,” the narrator is crushed by the realization that the hope he had placed in his younger brother’s future, a brother who had a good head on his shoulders and a better life than his own ahead of him, had thrown it all away and fallen in with a bad crowd. The narrator turns first to resentment for the people that had done this to his brother, which quickly becomes an aching sense of loss as he watches the kid he had grown up with become one of the men he loathes.

    Actors Casey Affleck, known for his work in Oppenheimer, Manchester by the Sea, and Interstellar, and Jack Martin portray estranged brothers in the music video’s narrative penned by Bryan and his girlfriend, influencer and Barstool Sports personality Brianna LaPaglia, that pulls heavily from the narrative spun in “Oak Island’s” lyrics.

    Directed by long-time video collaborator Matthew Dillon Cohen, the music video features multiple careful frames of Schenectady, with local scenes interspersed throughout the narrative. The opening shot in particular features Affleck stepping out of local favorite Mike’s Hot Dogs while making one of many missed calls to his younger brother. 

    Split by unclear circumstances, the older brother played by Affleck attempts to reach his younger brother, played by Martin, in the hopes of redirecting his life away from less than favorable companions. As with the song’s narrative, the two brothers confront one another- the younger already along his own path, one diverging from everything Affleck believes to be right. 

    Tensions rise when Affleck pulls Martin out of a bar and goes after one of his brother’s associates, breaking into a fight. The video culminates in a car chase that ends in the two siblings staring at each other on either end of the road interspersed with flashbacks of their childhood, only to reveal that Affleck has been alone on the road this entire time – he had already lost his brother to the path he had walked down.

  • NIVA Launches Groundbreaking “Live Independent” Program

    The National Independent Venue Association has announced their “Live Independent” program in partnership with Bandsintown in order to promote and preserve independent venues.

    NIVA, or the National Independent Venue Association, is the national trade association that represents thousands of independent live entertainment venues, festivals, promoters, and more. Their ethos focuses on the preservation and nurturing of live entertainment’s ecosystem, empowering members and their team with member benefits, advocacy on the state, local, and federal levels, an annual industry-leading conference, and more. 

    NIVA seeks to maintain and promote the smaller stages where the music community begins, especially those operated and staffed by people of color, women, non-binary, LGBTQ+, veterans, and people with disabilities.

    Their newest program, “Live Independent”, is another large step towards this objective. Designed to enhance the quality and sustainability of independent live entertainment all while preserving the authentic energy of such cultural cornerstones, the “Live Independent” certification program will recognize excellence and commitment to the independent spirit via seals of certification that carry major benefits.

    When a venue is marked as an inductee to the “Live Independent” ranks, they will earn the certified seal along with various physical posters, stickers, and decals as well as digital assets with the “Live Independent” branding for websites, marketing, and social media. Partnerships with ticketing companies will also enable the “Live Independent” seal to appear on event tickets.

    The program will also include a dedicated website acting as an encyclopedia to “Live Independent” venues and events. Fans can search the site to see which venues are certified and find shows at certified stages.

    Finally, “Live Independent” certified venues can expect to have their seal displayed on their Bandsintown page in addition to appearing on the Bandsintown “Live Independent” certified venue map on both the platform’s app and website.

  • The Binghamton Philharmonic to Open Season With “Restless Oceans”

    The Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra has announced the opening concert of their 2024-2025 season, “Restless Oceans.”

    Acting as the Southern Tier’s largest and longest-serving symphony orchestra, the Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra has been presenting the population of Downtown Binghamton and Broome County at large with an annual series of classical, pops, and chamber music since 1955. 

    Represented by Local 380 of the American Federation of Musicians and hailing from the Southern Tier, New York City, and beyond, the professional musicians of the Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra serve up to 10,000 people annually within and beyond the concert hall.

    Returning for their 2024-2025 season, the Philharmonic is bringing the concert Restless Oceans to the stage on Saturday, September 28. Taking its name from its first piece, the program spans two centuries of music celebrating the healing power of nature.

    Highlights include the titular “Restless Oceans” by celebrated Anglo-American composer Anna Clyne which connects the sound of the natural world to the resiliency of the human spirit, Richard Stauss’s witty and jovial Horn Concerto No.1 that utilizes the French horn to evoke the ancient sounds of the hunt, and the concluding Beethoven’s famous hymn to nature and its restorative powers, Symphony No.6, the “Pastoral”.

    Included in the performance of Horn Concerto No.1 is the Philharmonic’s principal horn Alex Shuhan as soloist. Shuhaun is not only the principal horn for Binghamton Philharmonic- he holds the same position in the Fort Smith, Arkansas Symphony Orchestra as well as teaching at Ithaca College as a Professor of Horn. Performing as a soloist in orchestras across the United States as well as touring the globe in the Rhythm & Brass ensemble he co-founded, Shuhan’s performances are not to be missed.

    In addition to a riveting concert, the Philharmonic invited the public to a Pre-Concert Chat at 6:30pm, “Sound and Vision in Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony” by the Philharmonic’s Director of Education and Community Engagement Dr. Julia Grella O’Connell. In the season’s first installment of the Philharmonic’s pre-concert talks, Dr. Grealla O’Connell will discuss the avenues Beethoven took to communicate particular visual information to listeners through sound.

  • BRIC JazzFest Celebrates 10th Anniversary JazzFest

    BRIC Arts and Media Institution of Brooklyn announced this past week its 10th anniversary celebratory JazzFest 2024, with 18 performances over the course of three days.

    BRIC Arts Media, based in Downtown Brooklyn has been bringing free access to creative and cultural programming as well as opportunities for local artists to realize their works since its inception. 

    Originating as The Fund for the Borough of Brooklyn in 1979, the organization offers residencies, youth fellowships, grants, prizes, and partnerships to the artists of the Brooklyn community, as well as collaborations with other public resources in the area including Media Education classes at the Brooklyn Public Library, a cyclical program focused on community engagement through the arts titled the Intergenerational Community Arts Council, and partnerships with over 75 organizations to bring media and production skills to nonprofits based in Brooklyn.

    One of the biggest programs run by BRIC in recent years is the BRIC Jazzfest, an annual presentation of the newest voices and hidden gems of the Jazz scene. Now, a decade into the program, BRIC will present “A Decade of Discovery” from October 17-19, a dazzling three-day lineup showcasing rising stars, contemporary innovators, and jazz legends.

    Day one will consist of performances by NEA Jazz Master Gary Bartz co-headlining with acclaimed harpist Brandee Younger, genre-defying drummer Kassa Overall, rising star Josh Johnson, and emerging talents Milena Casado and Mali Obomsawin.

    Performances for day two feature cutting-edge drummer and produce Makaya McCraven, jazz luminary Terri Lyne Carrington, innovative alto saxophonist Caroline Davis, and percussionist Daniel Villarreal.

    The concluding evening will cover the full spectrum of contemporary jazz, highlights including powerhouse saxophonist Lakecia Benjamin, jazz elder statesman Reggie Workman, jazz and Iraqi maqam fusionist and trumpeter Amir Elsaffar, Australian neo-soul artistAllysha Joy, and Afro-Cuban jazz master Joaquin Pozo. 

    In addition, the final evening will conclude with a special jam session honoring the legacy of jazz drummer Casey Benjamin curated by a party and live music experience called The Jungle, a collaboration of DJs, musicians, and artists for a unique journey across the African Diaspora- embracing Latin, Jazz, Afrobeat, Amapiano, Percussion, Brazilian, Caribbean, House, and Soul sounds.

  • West Falls Center for the Arts Receives East Aurora Music Hall of Fame Award

    Non-profit arts venue West Falls Center for the Arts has been inducted into the East Aurora Music Hall of Fame, becoming the first inductee under the Foundations of Music category. 

    Acting as a central part of West Falls’ art scene and community at large, the West Falls Center for the Arts has been providing the folks of the area music education and entertainment since 2009. A true community effort, the Center has grown from a small piano lesson studio for children before school to a space boasting a stage for weekend concerts and community programs, all through generous donations and the effort of countless volunteers.

    Now offering the same weekend concerts they began with in addition to free music lessons for veterans, Musical Memories Cafe for caregivers and their loved ones with dementia, the mentorship-style Kids Music Jam, Southtown’s Youth Jazz Orchestra, Community Thanksgiving, masterclasses and music clinics, and musical therapy for young adults with autism. 

    Since its founding days the West Falls Center for the Arts has been giving to the community and asking nothing in return, but has always received an outpouring of love nevertheless. This giving spirit is what earned the Center their title as the first inductee of their kind to the East Aurora Music Hall of Fame, a title they hold with pride- a promise to continue fostering musical community and care.

  • Albany Symphony Announces Water Music NY: More Voices Festival

    The Albany Symphony has announced the Water Music NY: More Voices Festival, a mini concert series celebrating underrepresented voices to commemorate the bicentennial of the Erie Canal’s completion.

    Two-time Grammy award winners and the most ASCAP awarded orchestra in America, the Albany Symphony is highly respected and admired for their blend of classical orchestral performances, lesser-heard masterworks, and a diverse selection of works from the leading and emerging voices of this generation.

    Led by Music Director David Alan Miller, the Symphony brings a world-premiere or recent composition to every single one of their performances. In addition, they host a multi-day American Music Festival that celebrates both established and emerging living composers, a family series and holiday concerts that are both an active collaboration with youth performing arts groups, and an array of award-winning education programs, including the Symphony in Our Schools program that introduces musicians to the classroom for interactive music education.

    With a history of bringing new voices to light like theirs, the Albany Symphony’s newest endeavor, Water Music NY, only makes sense. Inspired by the orchestra’s original 2017 Water Music NY Festival, the project is a three-year venture expanding upon the original musical tour down the Erie Canal. Now, with more resources and bigger pictures in mind, the Symphony is uplifting underrepresented voices including those of women, immigrants, people of color, and indigenous peoples.

    In collaboration with the New York State Canal Corporation, this fall’s Water Music NY: More Voices programming includes five free pop-up concerts, featuring small ensembles of Albany Symphony musicians and vocalists along the path of the Erie Canal, highlighting the 524 mile system’s past, present, and future.  

    Performances will occur at the Lock Tenders Tribute Monument in Lockport, Old Lock 36  (near  Lock 17) in Little Falls, Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site in Fort Hunter, Waterloo (Livestream only), and the Montezuma Audubon Center at the Montezuma Wetlands Complex. In addition to in person attendance, each concert will be available to view online via livestream. Featured composers Daniel Bernard Roumain, Clarice Assad, Francisco del Pino, Dai Wei, and Juhi Bansal will all have their works premiered at these venues along the Canal.

    Daniel Bernard Roumain’s piece, Agrarian and Liquid, was the result of a partnership with librettist Marc Bamuthi Joseph. The piece highlights the relationship between the Erie Canal and abolitionist and freedom fighter Harriet Tubman.

    Francisco del Pino’s piece, Orenda, is inspired by the concepts of place and connectedness with nature through a continuous stream of motion under which things change imperceptibly over time, just as with bodies of water. Floating above the piece is a vocalist chanting words from the Oneida Nation’s motto: good mind, good heart, strong fire.

    Clarice Assad’s piece and world premiere, Earth and Water, explores themes of environmental change, human progress, and the relationship between nature and civilization as it is rooted in the Erie Canal’s construction. Concepts for the composition emerged from a conversation with celebrated Mohawk storyteller, teacher, and writer Kay Olan.

    Dai Wei will perform a livestream exclusive show featuring a piece exploring the journey of Chinese merchant Oong Ar Showe who adeptly navigated the social and economic landscape of 19th century America, emphasizing the key role the Erie Canal played in facilitating interregional trade.

    Juhi Bansal’s piece Refuge will wrap the mini-concert series in the thriving expanse of marshes belonging to the Montezuma Wetlands Complex.

    Pop sensation Dua Lipa announces additional dates for her worldwide Radical Optimism Tour, which includes two nights at Madison Square Garden in 2025, on September 17 and 18.

    To the younger pop-consuming generations, three-time GRAMMY and seven-time BRIT Award winning global pop sensation Dua Lipa needs no introduction. Since signing a record deal in 2014, she’s released hit after hit. Her fifth overall single “Blow Your Mind (Mwah)” became her first entry on the US Billboard Hot 100 at 72, followed by her self titled first album that became her first ever number one in the UK, and the first female solo artist to top that chart since Adele’s “Hello” in 2015.
