  • Primus, Coheed and Cambria & Puddles Pity Party shut down Terminal B in Standout Show

Buffalo Outer Harbor, Terminal B hosted legendary Primus, Coheed and Cambria with special guest Puddles Pity Party on August 9, 2024.

Puddles Pity Party at Terminal B

Puddles Pity Party, the melancholy clown songster from America’s Got Talent, lured the crowd in with their deep golden voice and creative renditions of classics ranging from “My Heart Will Go On” to “Stairway to Heaven” with borrowed words from other famous songs like the Gilligan Island’s theme Song. Puddles’ interactions with the crowd were as much a part of the show as the music itself and the crowd enjoyed piecing together lyrics as Puddles sang several familiar tunes. As a result his memorable performance rocked the Terminal B crowd and set the stage for Coheed and Cambria.

Coheed and Cambria began the show with their hit song “In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3” which brought a different kind of intensity to the evening than Puddles Pity Party could offer. The band’s ability to create an emotional connection with their audience was next level, and fans passionately joined in on tracks like “A Favor House Atlantic” and “The Crowing” their voices rising in unison with the music creating a cathartic concert going experience. They closed with “Welcome Home” which seemed appropriate as they mentioned during the set that Buffalo has felt like home for the band throughout their years of touring and being hosted at people’s Buffalo homes throughout the years.

Les Claypool interacted with the audience to perform their hit and rare song at the encore, and they played “Jellikit” as the fans requested. Primus said goodbye with “Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver”, leaving the audience in awe, although Primus didn’t promise to come back to Buffalo as portion of the audience repeatedly chanted “Primus Sucks.”

  • The Felice Brothers mesmerized a packed Mohawk Place with Dead Gowns

Folk-rock band The Felice Brothers and Dead Gowns performed at the local historic bar and venue, Mohawk Place on Tuesday, July 23.

Dead Gowns, led by Portland songwriter Geneviève Beaudoin, opened the show with an intimate acoustic set. Geneviève Beaudoin’s voice is the right mix of haunting and enchanting that hypnotized the audience into patiently waiting in the hot and intimate Mohawk Place on this steamy Tuesday evening. Dead Gowns will continue to tour with the Felice Brothers for the rest of July.

The Felice Brothers launched their Mohawk Place set with “Crime Scene Queen” to a packed room of die-hard fans erupting in cheers. One fan we spoke to even scheduled their summer visit to Buffalo around this show. They blended their set with their latest release songs from their 2024 album Valley of Abandoned Songs and an assortment of songs from their 19 albums and EPs.

Some notable songs performed were “Love me Tenderly,” “Whiskey In My Whiskey” and fan-favorite “Frankie’s Gun!” Lead vocals and energy by Ian Felice and James Felice were infectious. Ian’s vocals and guitars paired with James’ accordion and piano talent paired seamlessly with the talented Jesske Hume’s fluid bass and Will Lawrence’s steady drums.

One of the memorable aspects of the night was the request from a newlywed couple to perform “A Wonderful Life.” The band gladly performed the song and sang along with the couple, enjoying their moment of happiness. The band, all dressed in their finest blazers, were sweating along with the audience so Buffalo shared their hospitality by offering them all a nice, cold PBR to cool them off during their set. It almost felt like we were all invited to the couple’s wedding and we were celebrating all together, a beautiful moment of music, family and happiness.

Regardless of how well you know the Felice Brothers, they put on a show that makes you feel like you have known them for years. The Felice Brothers will be playing the Hollerhorn Distillery in Naples, New York on August 23rd.

  • Dispatch and Stolen Gin serenade the moon at Art Park

Dispatch performed on a cloudy summer evening at Artpark on Friday, June 28. Thousands gathered at the outdoor venue, located on the edge of the Niagara Gorge to see Dispatch, a band that performs a mixture of indie, reggae, rock and folk. Stolen Gin opened the show.

Stolen Gin has been around for 5 years and they are known for indie, pop, funk and rock, said the drummer, Josh. This is their first show touring with Dispatch in 2024. Stolen Gin gave the crowd a unique taste of their music throughout the show and set the stage for the Dispatch.

As the sun went down, Dispatch took the stage as the gentle breeze carried into the crowd. They seamlessly transitioned between genres, and the band members swapped instruments throughout their set. The memorable moment was when Brad Corrigan wrote a song about the moon on the stage after he saw the street light and thought that it was a full moon. The lyrics went “I see three moons, maybe four. There are more coming for more, we eat berries in the woods”. He said I will keep working on that song until we all sing together. Fans were singing along and dancing along as they played their iconic songs “The General”, “Bang Bang”, “Only The Wild Ones” and “Bond By Love”. Dispatch ended the show with a Birthday song for the band member Matt Embree who play guitar and bass.

Dispatch will continue their US tour throughout 2024. They will come back to the gorgeous vanue Artpark to singalong with their audience in near future.

  • Cake Return to Ommegang Brewery to Kick Off Summer

Cake returned to Ommegang Brewery in Cooperstown, on Saturday, June 22, greeting over 7,000 fans who went the distance to attend this sold-out show in Central New York during a heat wave.

    Cake Ommegang

Cake, from California, has been around since the 1990s and has released original songs (“Going the Distance,” “Short Skirt” and “A Long Jacket”) and covers (“I Will Survive”) that never seem to age. Cake always makes an effort to stop in New York throughout their tours. This show was the fourth time Cake has been invited to play at the Ommegang Brewery.

    Cake Ommegang

Although Cake isn’t from New York, it felt like a homecoming show. The backdrop of the stage and the tree on stage blended into the mountains of New York surrounding the brewery and stage. The show opened melodically with Willie Nelsons’ ‘Sad Songs and Waltzes’ before launching into back to back songs from across their entire song catalogue – “Opera Singer,” “Rock and Roll Lifestyle,” “Long Time,” “Frank Sinatra”. Lead singer, Jon McCrea, who’s voice hasn’t aged a bit, also wasn’t stingy in use of the famous vibraslap throughout their set especially since many audience members egged him on by playing their own vibraslaps from the crowd.

The show slowed back down for ‘Mexico’ and the fans’ voiced echoes the words and melodies back to them. The frontman explained that they usually stop for a set break but they would continue to play ‘Shadow Stabbing’ and fight the impeding storm to stay away.

    Cake Ommegang

Sadly, lightning struck right after the song concluded and everyone was asked to evacuate the grounds to wait out the storm. Emails were sent out at around 10pm stating the show was cancelled, despite most people lacking any phone reception in the mountains to receive the update.

People went home soggy and disappointed after a short and sweet show and an hour long wait to know if the show would continue. But many Cake fans were satisfied to hear and singalong to songs old and new on a mostly beautiful day in New York and were relieved to know Cake will still be touring.

Cake is heading back to California to continue their tour in July. Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps they will be back to Ommegang soon to finish the show they started and plant a tree for the Cake Forest.

Cake – Ommegang Brewery, Cooperstown, NY – Saturday, June 22, 2024

Setlist: Sad Songs and Waltzes, Opera singer, Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps, Long Time, Rock and Roll Lifestyle, Meanwhile, Rick James…, Frank Sinatra, Sheep Go To Heaven, Mexico, Shadow Stabbing
