  • Rod Stewart and Cheap Trick’s “One Last Time” To Stop at SPAC

    Sir Rod Stewart, the legendary two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inducted singer-songwriter, will reunite with fellow Hall of Famers, Cheap Trick, as his special guests for “One Last Time.” The 20-show tour of North America will start Mar. 7 and run through Aug. 15. The tour will Include a stop at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs on July 15.

    The pair’s last outing, in 2022, was a critical success as well as a fan favorite. The setlist will include chart-topping hits spanning Stewart’s unparalleled career, with songs like, “You Wear It Well,” “Maggie May,” “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy,” “The First Cut is the Deepest,” “Tonight’s the Night,” “Every Picture Tells A Story,” “Infatuation,” “Forever Young,” “Ooh La La” ”Young Turks,” Have I Told You Lately That I Love You,” “Rhythm of My Heart,” “Forever Young,” and many more.

    In 2024 Rod Stewart released his 33rd studio album, Swing Fever, a collaboration with Jools Holland with his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra. He also toured Asia and Europe before wrapping his record-setting 13-year Las Vegas residency, Rod Stewart: The Hits. He will return to The Colosseum at Caesars Palace from March to June 2025, with “The Encore Shows” featuring his biggest hits, plus surprises from the songbook.

    Cheap Trick is Robin Zander (vocals, rhythm guitar), Rick Nielsen (lead guitar), Tom Petersson (bass guitar), and Daxx Nielsen (drums).   • Adirondack Wind Ensemble Hosts “Home in the Adirondacks”

    The Adirondack Wind Ensemble’s Eleanor Marcus Memorial Concert was held on Sunday, Sept. 22 at the E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium in Plattsburgh.

    The Adirondack Wind Ensemble (AWE) celebrated Eleanor Marcus’s love of music through its annual Memorial Concert. Marcus graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh in 1943 and loved music, attending almost every music event at E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium for decades until her passing. Since its founding in 2002 by Daniel Gordon, a member of the music faculty at SUNY Plattsburgh, AWE has performed an annual concert in E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium.

    AWE is a professional musical ensemble of wind and percussion instruments comprised of music educators and other outstanding community musicians from around the North Country. Its performers represent every public school district in Clinton County as well as several communities beyond. AWE is dedicated to providing quality concert performances by members of this community for this community.

    From 2010-20, AWE performed its program at a second venue in either Lake Placid or Saranac Lake.over the years, AWE has also performed at Battle of Plattsburgh Commemorations (2002-2004), in annual fall concerts at Plattsburgh High School (2007-2009), at First Night Saranac Lake (New Year’s Eve 2014), and as part of the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival (2020). These geographic expansions have made AWE a true “Adirondack” Wind Ensemble.

  • Ruf Records Announce Show In NYC For 30 Anniversary Tour

    Ruf Records celebrates three decades of success with an anniversary tour which includes a show at Sony Hall in NYC on Saturday, Nov. 23. The lineup will feature Samantha Fish with Mitch Ryder, Canned Heat with special guest Bernard Allison, and one-woman band, Ghalia Volt.

    Ruf Records has been a cornerstone of the blues genre, nurturing some of the most renowned and respected artists in the world, Since its founding in 1994 by Thomas Ruf. Indeed, the 30 Anniversary Tour is not just a celebration of the label’s past, but a testament to its ongoing commitment to preserving and advancing the blues tradition.

    Headlining this tour is Samantha Fish, who opened for The Rolling Stones and performed on Slash’s S.E.R.P.E.N.T. Tour this past year. Joining the tour as Samantha Fish’s special guest is rock ‘n’ roll icon Mitch Ryder. Ryder’s career spans over five decades who’s known for his high-energy performances and hits like “Devil with Blue Dress On.” Ruf Records released The Roof Is On Fire, a two-disc live album recorded by Ryder, last January.

    Canned Heat will also perform on this tour. The quartet is known for timeless hits “Let’s Work Together” and “Going Up The Country” and performed at the iconic Woodstock Music & Arts Festival in 1969. Canned Heat’s special guest, Bernard Allison, is son of blues legend Luther Allison. Last January Ruf Records released Luther’s Blues, a tribute to his dad’s songs, re-imagined in Allison Jr.’s unique style. Last but not least, is “one-woman band” Ghalia Volt. Born in Belgium, Volt decided during the pandemic to embark on a month-long Amtrak journey across America, writing songs and performing solo shows from the train. Ruf dropped her most recent release, Shout Sister Shout, last October.

  • Benefit Concert for Creative Music Studio To Be Held in NYC

    A benefit concert for Creative Music Studio will be held at (Le) Poisson Rouge in Greenwich Village on Wednesday, Dec. 11.

    This special event will feature a diverse lineup of artists performing everything from experimental surf rock to poetry to beloved tunes by Medeski Martin & Wood through both solo and improvised group jam sessions. Artists such as Ava Mendoza, Billy Martin aka illy B, and Joe Russo, will be performing at the benefit, among other instrumentalists and poets. All proceeds from this show will go to the Creative Music Foundation.

    Creative Music Studio aims to engage musicians and listeners through workshops, recordings, and concerts worldwide. For 40 years, Creative Music’s main program was the Creative Music Studio, a physical 45-acre campus in Woodstock NY where musicians lived. Residents include hundreds of Guiding Artists, including several MacArthur ‘Genius’ Award winners (George Lewis, John Zorn, Cecil Taylor, John Cage, Charlie Haden). Over 550 concerts were recorded and were digitized as part of the CMS Archive Project. 

    Since 2008, (Le) Poisson Rouge has had indie rock, contemporary classical, electronica, metal, jazz, world music, and everything in-between on its stage. in the heart of New York City’s historic Greenwich Village to reflect the rich musical culture of the city it calls home. A Gallery Bar that hosts art exhibitions, stand-up comedy, and drag queen bingo make LPR the most eclectically independent venue in NYC.

  • My Chemical Romance Announce 2025 North American Tour

    In celebration of The Black Parade, My Chemical Romance will play the album in its entirety on a 2025 stadium tour. Dates include MetLife Stadium on August 9, (with special guest Death Cab for Cutie and Thursday) and Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on August 15 (with special guest Alice Cooper).

    After performing The Black Parade album in its entirety at the most recent When We Were Young Festival, My Chemical Romance (Gerard Way, Ray Toro, Frank Iero, and Mikey Way) will be celebrating The Black Parade this coming summer. The iconic album was named one of Rolling Stone’s “500 Greatest Albums of All Time.” The band will be performing the full album in only ten cities across North America. Each show will feature a different renowned act to open for the band.

    Since the band’s 2002 self-released debut album, the New Jersey natives have proved to be definitively one of the most popular and enduring alt bands of the 2000s. Both 2004’s Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge and 2006’s The Black Parade have been certified platinum three times.

  • Eric Alexander Quartet To Play Flushing Town Hall

    On Friday, November 22 at 8 pm, saxophonist Eric Alexander and his quartet will perform a set of bebop jazz at Flushing Town Hall.

    Eric Alexander, joined by David Williams (bass), Neal Smith (drums), and Rick Germanson (piano), has been described by NPR as “one of the finest bebop saxophonists in the world.” After releasing more than 40 albums as a quartet or sextet leader, and being heard in over 100 albums that feature his playing, Alexander has been on the cutting edge of the jazz scene for over 30 years.

    Eric Alexander started on the piano at the age of six and took up the clarinet three years later. He switched to alto sax when he was 12 and studied classical music. When he was 18 years old, he fell in love with jazz and settled for the tenor saxophone. At William Paterson College in New Jersey, he advanced his studies under the tutelage of Harold Mabern, Joe Lovano, Rufus Reid, and others.

    In 1991, Alexander placed second behind jazz saxophonist Joshua Redman, and ahead of Chris Potter, in the Thelonious Monk International Saxophone Competition. He then decided to become a professional jazz musician. In 1992, Alexander released his debut album, Straight Up for Delmark. More recordings followed, including Man with a Horn (1997) and a 1998 quartet with George Mraz, John Hicks, and Idris Muhammad, Solid!. That year also marked Alexander’s first recording with One For All, his enduring jazz sextet with Jim Rotondi, Steve Davis, Joe Farnsworth, Peter Washington, and Dave Hazeltine.

    ”Jazz plays such an important part in the history of Queens,” says Clyde Bullard, Flushing Town Hall’s Jazz Producer in Residence. “We at Flushing Town Hall want to continue the legacy of great jazz with outstanding established as well as emerging jazz artists on our stage. We are delighted to welcome the extremely talented Eric Alexander.”

  • Jazz at The Other Side in Utica Presents Kris Jensen Nov. 16

    Saxophonist, multi-wind artist, composer, and arranger Kris Jensen will perform a one-time intimate show at The Other Side in Utica on Nov. 16. Door opens at 7:00 p.m.

    Kris Jensen, a versatile musician, has performed throughout the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, Bangkok, Thailand, and Switzerland. Jensen has performed alongside many prominent artists in both jazz and rock, most notably, the legendary Allman Brothers Band and many of the individual members’ bands including Gregg Allman and Friends, Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band, Dickey Betts and Great Southern. He has also played with trumpet legend Maynard Ferguson, and many others.

    In 1996, Jensen was a semi-finalist in the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition. He has studied Jazz and African-American music at the University of Hartford, where he would later teach. Jensen has recently appeared with jazz legends such as trombonist Curtis Fuller, alto saxophonist Phil Woods, and pianist Larry Willis. He has appeared on New Jersey Public Television with Maynard Ferguson, on “Late Night with David Letterman” with Gregg Allman & Friends, and on stage with The Allman Brothers Band, and The Dave Matthews Band.

    The Other Side is a small community space dedicated to offering a platform for expression to artists and activists from around the region and beyond. Since 2007, The Other Side has been the go-to destination for jazz musicians and audiences alike.

  • “Rise of the Roach” National Tour to Make Two Stops in NY

    Papa Roach and Rise Against Announce the Rise of the Roach North American Tour. They will hit Syracuse on Sep. 11 and Wantagh on Sep. 13, 2025.

    Papa Roach will join forces with Rise Against and special guest Underoath to embark on the first North American legs of the Rise of the Roach Tour in the spring and fall of 2025marking a significant milestone as the two legendary rock bands unite for their first-ever outing together. 

    After the original, sold-out, UK and Europe legs of the tour, Rise of the Roach now continues throughout North America in 2025. The tour will hit over 30 major cities through the U.S. across two legs, including a stop at Northwell at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, on Saturday, Sep. 13, and Empower FCU Amphitheater in Syracuse on Wednesday, Sep. 11.

    Papa Roach will celebrate 25 years of their debut album Infest on tour by playing iconic tracks and fan-favorite deep cuts from their entire catalog. Rise Against is also celebrating 25 years since their formation and will be performing fan favorites and hits from its whole catalog. This tour will see the biggest production from Papa Roach to date. Both Papa Roach and Rise Against will perform some of the biggest hits in the Alternative Hard Rock genre on one stage every night.

  • LIMEHOF Hosts 20th Anniversary Celebration in Stony Brook

    The Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame (LIMEHOF) will host two days of live music, comedy, film screenings, and family events in celebration of their 20th anniversary on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 in Stony Brook.

    Presented by Catholic Health, Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame’s anniversary celebration will feature continuous entertainment including Kerry Kearney, DMC with Johnny Juice, Stanton Anderson, American Idol Christian Padavan, comedians, surprise guests and more. Admission includes refreshments and an appearance by Santa. Kids under 12 are free.

    Founded in 2004, the Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame is dedicated to the idea that Long Island’s musical heritage is an important resource to be celebrated and preserved for future generations. They have inducted more than 100 musicians and music industry executives, and also offers education programs and scholarships to Long Island students, sponsors the Long Island Sound Award, and features traveling educational exhibits, including a state-of-the-art mobile museum.

    Admission also includes access to LIMEHOF’s Billy Joel exhibit. The exhibit features over 5 decades of rare memorabilia including albums, tours, inspirations and personal experiences from Billy Joel’s life-spanning career. Videos, awards, recordings, instruments, photos and more were donated from Billy’s personal collection.

    The event will feature holiday music videos of LIMEHOF inductees and will have visits from Santa Claus at 2pm on both days and surprise visits from LIMEHOF inductees. It will also feature the set and sleigh from Twisted Sister’s Christmas Special. More performances to be announced.

    • Shakti Lounge kicks off 2024-25 Live Music Series

      In Buffalo on Saturday, November 9, the Shakti Lounge’s 2024-25 monthly Concert Series kicksoff with a performance by the Walter Kemp 3.

      The Shakti Lounge is a collaboration between Shakti Yoga (Michelle Gigante) and Lavender Haze Collective (Ellen Pieroni). The monthly concert series provides musicians with space to show their skills and art to the community, and a comfortable environment for the audience to hear innovative music. Shakti creates a salon-like setting offering guests the unique experience of reclining on its heated floor with cushions or taking a seat in a chair. All are welcome.

      This year’s selection features a diverse group of artists performing across a wide variety of genres such as jazz, folk, classical, and world music. The musicians are mainly local to Buffalo, with the exception of Nicholas Mycio Trio (jazz guitar from New York City) and Haunted Continents from Connecticut, featuring Buffalo-based cellist Katie Weissman.

      Bandleader Walter Kemp 3, (piano, Rhodes, and Viscount organ) grounded by the roots of swinging, soulful syncopation, will open the series with an existential, extraterrestrial, performance of meditative music. The group features Alec Dube on vibes, Dave Phillips on drums, and Ben Levitt on bass. The ensemble will deliver a one of a kind listening experience. Complimentary refreshments will be available.

      Other acts featured in the 2024-25 lineup are alt-jazz guitarist Adam Bronstein & ABtrio, (Feb. 8) and talented string quartet fra/ctured (Mar. 8). Both of those groups are making a return from last year’s series. Family FUNKtion and the Sitar Jams: a world jam trio consisting of sitar, drums, and bass will also make an appearance on May 10. A special benefit concert on 1/11 for the Sara Rogers Foundation, will feature a talented crew of musicians who knew, loved, and shared the stage with Sara.
