Playbill and the Times Square Alliance announce their third annual Pride in Times Square celebration. The eagerly awaited lineup consists of an interactive pride exhibit, a broadway disco party, and live performances. From June 28 to 29, displays of activism and celebration will be available for New Yorkers for free admission.

The Times Square Alliance has worked to improve and promote Times Square since 1992. From working to keep the neighborhood clean and safe to promoting local businesses, the Alliance has had a profound impact on Times Square and the surrounding area.
Founded in 1884, Playbill has been a long standing symbol of theater and the arts. Playbill magazine is distributed to every Broadway theatre, most Off-Broadway theaters, and regional theaters and fine arts institutions in over 24 cities across the country.
Pride NYC is dedicated to upholding New York’s tradition of diverse community. Through inspirational, educational, and commemoratory LGBTQ+ events, Pride NYC offers opportunities to gather in activism, protest, celebration, and advocacy. Volunteers are central to NYC Pride’s operation, and people intersted in volunteering can fill out the following form.

Pride in Times Square’s Main Stage Performances will be kicked off on Friday, June 28, with a Broadway Pride Block Party. Saturday morning, members of the New York Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), Mayorâs Office of Equity & Racial Justice (MOERJ), NYC Unity Project, and more kick off Summer Youth Employment Program (SYED) pride. Grubhub and the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce’s pride celebration will follow, offering funds to LGBT and allied bars and restaurants.
From June 28 to 29, ViiV Healthcare will bring an interactive double decker bus into Times Square. Afterwards, the bus will be featured in NYC’s Pride March down 5th Avenue on June 30.
The next scheduled event is a performance by LBGTQ+ artists, presented by ViiV Healthcare. Finally, the Times Square Alliance will ignite the night with their third annual Big Broadway Disco. The large scale street party invites Broadway enthusiasts to dance to classic and contemporary songs and performances. DJs, performers, and and vibrant costumes will take on Times Square on Saturday, June 29, beginning at 5:15. More information is available at the following link, and all the events are free.
Wang Chung, Naked Eyes, and The Motels are scheduled to play with the Abducted by the 80s Tour in Syracuse and Elmira. The 80’s extravaganza will transport viewers back to the days of MTV and New Wave. The tour promises a journey into the past with iconic sounds and unforgettable melodies.
The 80s extravaganza kicked off in Texas, and will visit New York June 14 and 15.
Motels’ Martha Davis shared her excitement for the tour, The chemistry among the acts is also impressive, with Martha Davis saying, Nick Feldman, Jack Hues, and Pete Byrne are some of her, “favorite people, not to mention amazing musicians!”

I had the honor of interviewing Jack Hues of Wang Chung about the tour. Hues’ enthusiasm for his music and performing was contagious; there was a great deal of care put into the tour. He expressed excitement about the tour and optimism for Wang Chung’s future, including plans for a new Greatest Hits record, featuring demos, re-releases, and remixes. Jack Hues continues to write and release music, and his first solo album, Primitif, was released in 2020. Since Primitif, Hues has kept busy, releasing an acoustic album, a live album, and multiple singles. His love of recording and writing is evident, and a third solo album is in the works.
Hues is a prime example of a musician dedicated to their craft and audience experience. Hues expressed his desire to highlight the bands range, all while playing the hits people love so dearly. The acts were chosen to fit together musically, thematically, and harmoniously.

Jazz on Jay returns to Schenectady this summer with an exciting lineup of family friendly acts. The lunchtime concerts will be held at a new location this year, the outdoor venue at Jay Square.
Located across from City Hall, Jay Square offers an improved sound and overall experience. Every Thursday at noon, top singers and instrumentalists from across the region bring their bands to Jay Street.
Lanaea Brice, the new chair of the beloved series, described it as, “a lively celebration of our shared love for harmony, community, and the pure bliss of gathering together.”
The rain location remains at Robb Alley at Proctors, 32 State Street, Schenectady. This year, souvenir tumblers will also be available for purchase while supplies last. Spectators are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs, and to enjoy the many nearby restaurants. A full list of performances is available below, and admission is free! Thursdays on the Village Green returns to Hamilton, as the beloved festival features an exciting lineup of performances and family friendly events. The festival also creates an opportunity for residents and visitors alike to explore downtown Hamilton’s boutiques with home goods, fashion, jewelry and antiques.
Thursdays on the Village Green is one of Hamilton’s most beloved events. Dating back to 1902, the Village Green has hosted live music and events for the community. Guests are invited to bring picnic blankets and chairs, and to take advantage of the many food trucks. Food trucks will be available on a rotating schedule, including Cowboy BBQ, Tacocat Food Co.,Brake from the Grind, Motley Chew, Stathis Greek Restaurant and Gyro, and Oh Crepe.
The lineup features tribute bands, cover bands, and exciting performers. The Village Green offers something for everyone, with balloon animals, face painting, and magic shows. Performances, face painting, and Gilligan’s ice cream are free for the community.
Alea, Joe Driscoll, BSG, Amanda Rogers & Allie Fox, Ed-a-Palooza, and Nate the Great will all be performing this summer.
July 5
The Syracuse Orchestra will kick off the season with a performance on Friday, July 5. The performance will start at 7:30. The Orchestra will also offer their “instrument petting zoo”, where people can pick instruments up and learn more about them.
July 11
The next performance will feature Alea, a Colombian born singer, composer and musician based in NYC. Her music is a fusion of afro-indigenous music and culture, and highlights her experiences in diverse musical landscapes. Alea is a two-time recipient of the Uncharted Music Series Residency in New York, and has received recognition from the city of Boston for her contributions to Latin music.
July 18
Joe Driscoll will take the stage with an exciting fusion of hip-hop and folk. Driscoll effortlessly combines seemingly opposing genres, pulling reggae, folk, and blues with a solid foundation of storytelling. Time Out magazine referred to Driscoll as a, “sonic wunderkind who who creates his own 21st century ‘folk’ live on stage: sample by sample, beat by beat”.
July 25
July 25’s performance will have a 90s theme, with a 90s family dance party and emo/grunge cover band BSG. BSG cultivates a setlist reminiscent of what you “illegally downloaded off Limewire in 2007”. Songs from beloved 90s artists, including Rage Against The Machine, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and System of a Down, are all included in BSG’s repertoire.
August 1
The first performance of August will showcase female artists, with performances by Amanda Rogers and Allie Fox. Amanda Rogers is an upstate New York native, who blends the landscape of the rust belt and an idyllic world of her own. The result is dynamic music, with elements of punk and classical. Recording with Brooklyn-based punk/hardcore label Immigrant Sun Records, Rogers has released 11 solo albums, in addition to touring with indie and hardcore bands, a pop-rock outfit, and grunge-pop-folk duo. Her style is intimate and emotional, while maintaining an intensity and grit.
Allie Fox is an artist who writes, books, and performs her own music. She has been in the music industry from an early age, and has experience working at MUSICTODAY, Magnolia Records, Blues Bash by the Cass, and for several artists on tour. She owns a business focused on writing her own music and books; she recently finished a book for her son, Luther.
August 8
Thursdays on the Village Green will pay tribute to Ed Vollmer, a beloved guitarist, performer, and music teacher in Central New York. Before settling in Hamilton, Vollmer performed in the US, Mexico, Spain, France, and the Virgin Islands. Vollmer was the house guitarist at the Colgate Inn for 30 years. He worked in audio and visual production, producing videos and CDs for the Colgate cappella groups. He will be remembered forever as an inspiring teacher, who sparked his student’ love of music. Vollmer’s legacy will be honored by Steven Skollar, Mark Shiner, Pamme Swan, Reyna Stagnaro, and Maren Vantine.
August 15
Nate the Great’s Fire Breathing and Juggling Show will close out the series on August 15. Nate was raised on a small farm in Upstate New York. He learned to juggle when he was 7 years old, and has been juggling, balancing, and flipping things as long as he can remember. He now performs regionally as a juggler and musician, at shows across New York state. Nate the Great’s shows are interactive and include the juggling of at least 5 clubs, 6 rings, and 7 balls, along with comedy, music, and fire breathing.

Capital One City Parks foundation SummerStage is back in 2024 with an exciting lineup of artists. Opening in Central Park, the SummerStage will host concerts across all five boroughs with a wide variety of acts.
Free concerts will feature exciting up and coming artists, along with rock legend Kim Gordon and acclaimed jazz group Sun Ra Arkestra. Benefit concerts include The Gaslight Anthem, Ethel Cain, and Trixie Mattel, to name a few.
SummerStage is one of NYC’s most beloved music series, offering New Yorkers up to 80 free and benefit shows a year. For 38 years, SummerStage has been a beloved festival celebrating New York’s cultural heritage. New York’s history of jazz will be highlighted, as well as celebrating the birth of Hip-Hop. Neighborhood parks hosting SummerStage include multiple locations in all five boroughs. Tompkins Square Park, Marcus Garvey Park, Crotona Park, Brooklyn Bridge Park, and Flushing Meadows are among the many parks hosting SummerStage.
This season, SummerStage will showcase female artists pushing boundaries in the music industry, including Andra Day, Kim Gordon, Arooj Aftab, Sister Nancy, and Alcione. A spotlight will also be placed on multiple generations of jazz artists. Drummer Yussef Dayes will take the stage with vocalist and bassist Aneesa Strings.

This year’s festivals will continue to honor New York as the birthplace of Hip-Hop. In Bed-Stuy’s Herbert Von King Park, MIKE’s Young World festival will return with an exciting lineup of artists, including Earl Sweatshirt. Hip-Hop legends The Pharcyde, MC Ghostface Killah, and Slick Rick are featured in this season’s exciting lineup.

June 15, 2:00-6:00 PM: Join Collar City Pride for their picnic in Troy’s Prospect Park. The barbecue will feature vegan and non-vegan options, snacks, and beverages. There is a suggested donation on a sliding scale, and everyone is invited to bring lawn games, speakers, and frisbees.
July 14: The pride celebration continues into July, with performances by Typhoid Mary and DJ Lovely Candela. More queer artists and drag performers are to be announced. Good Karma Studios will also be performing an acrobatic act. There will be a family section with balloon animals and a drag story hour. There will also be over 40 vendors, most of whom are from Rensselaer County and LGBTQ+ owned and operated. June 27, 6:00 PM: LGBTQ parents and children are invited to Saratoga Arts’ “POP” Gathering (parents of pride). July 11, 6:30 PM: Join Saratoga Pride members for their Cornhole League. The informal, weekly drop-in league costs $15 a ticket, which offers guests a 20% discount on all food and drinks. Tournaments will be held at Saratoga Winery, and guests are encouraged to support the local restaurant. There will be more sessions every Thursday throughout the summer, with the tournament finals on August 29.

July 1-July 7: Commemorate the Fire Island Invasion of 1976 by recreating the event with the New York LGBT community. A longtime landmark in LGBTQ+ history, Fire Island has served as a safe haven for members of the community to express themselves freely. In 1976, after a restaurant in Fire Island Pines denied entry to a visitor in drag, the visitor and their friends stormed into the Pines dressed in drag. Hopeless Records will be onsite at A2IM Indie Week – June 10 to June 13 – with their 30th Anniversary Museum Exhibit. The Exhibit will debut in New York City and travel nationwide, making stops in Cleveland, OH, at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Las Vegas, NV, at the Punk Rock Museum. The Museum will feature over 1,000 artifacts, including guitars, vintage merch, and original never seen before photos of the recording process.
Hopeless Records also announced a year of events celebrating the anniversary, releasing a zine and documentary chronicling the 30 years. Hopeless will also release a compilation of their current artist roster and limited edition vinyl re-releases.
Founded in 1993, Hopeless Records produced pop punk and ska albums emblematic of the ’90s. The label evolved with mainstream tastes, broadening their horizons to a wide variety of acts. Two of their greatest success stories, All Time Low and Avenged Sevenfold joined the label early in their careers, and have accumulated a number of gold and platinum records. Recently, Hopeless has continued to adapt through changing times, signing Gen-Z acts like Destroy Boys, Waterparks, and Scene Queen. Their flexibility has made Hopeless one of the greatest independent labels, selling over 15 million records.
Additionally, Louis Posen, Hopeless Records’ founder, will be honored at A2IM’s Libera Awards. Posen will receive the Lifetime Achievement award for his leadership, philanthropy, and contributions to independent music. Hopeless Records is nominated for record label of the year and Best Punk Record for Neck Deep’s self titled album.
A2IM is a not-for-profit dedicated to advocating for the independent music sector. Membership includes over 600 independently owned music labels, which Billboard Magazine identified as the largest music sector with roughly 37% of recorded music sales.

The Town Hall, located in the Theater District in Manhattan, announced the 125th season of Peoples’ Symphony Concerts, including performances by the Juilliard String Quartet, The Knights, Paul Lewis, among others. Additionally, Allison Loggins-Hull and David Lang will premiere new works.
On Sunday, May 19, Frank Salomon will be presented with the Friend of the Arts Award in recognition of his contributions to New York Arts. Salomon served as director of Alexander Schneider’s New School Concert Series for fifty years. His love for classical music began in childhood, when his family subscribed to the Chamber Music series at the Town Hall.
As an adult, Salomon worked as the manager of the Peoples’ Symphony Concerts for over 50 years. Richard Goode, a performer with PSC, said of Salomon, “his feeling for the human values inherent in great art, continue to find an ideal environment in the warmth and surprising intimacy of The Town Hall”.
The Peoples’ Symphony concerts have offered New Yorkers affordable access to classical music since 1900. The Symphony offers exposure to established masters and promising young artists. At under $60 per concert season ($10 per concert), Peoples’ Symphony Concerts are an excellent option for affordable live music. Peoples’ Symphony also offers concerts in the Washington Irving Campus one block from Union Square.
The Salomon Series will showcase the beauty of chamber music while paying tribute to Frank Salomon. Performances will take place from October 2024 to March 2025. Paul Lewis will perform the Complete Schubert Piano Sonata on October 27. The Knights Orchestra will be performing Mozart, along with a new composition by Allison Loggins-Hull on December 8. The Town Hall will ring in 2025 with the performance of a mystery pianist on January 26. February 2, Raphaël Feuillâtre will make his NYC debut with performances of Bach and his contemporaries. Baritone Benjamin Appl and pianist Shai Wosner will pay tribute to Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau on February 16. Finally, on March 30, the Juilliard String Quartet will make their PSC debut.
Basilica Hudson announced their lineup of events for the 2024 season. Basilica Hudson is celebrating their new renovation with an action packed 2024 season. Summer events were kicked off May 18 & 19 with their 24 hour drone. Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the 24 hour drone is a non stop 24 hour concert. A nearly religious experience, listeners challenge their endurance with the non stop music.
The Climate Action Film Festival will also be returning to Basilica’s North Hall on May 31st. The Festival showcases international stories of human bravery in the face of climate change. The Basilica will also be hosting Jupiter Nights throughout the summer. The event offers live music, food, art, and beautiful views of the sunset at Hudson Valley.
Additionally, the Basilica will be throwing two parties over the summer: (Freak) Flag Day and All The Bodies. (Freak) Flag Day will be a dark, gothwave dance party under the fireworks. All The Bodies will be hosted at Lil Deb’s restaurant on June 21 in celebration of Pride Month. Soundscape, a weekend of art and music, will also be returning this September. Farm & Flea will be returning this year for the summer and the holiday season. Farm & Flea offers a sustainable, local alternative to the mania of Black Friday.
