  • Abbey Road and Satisfaction Perform Rock History at The Stanley Theater

    On Friday April 21st, The Stanley Theater in Utica hosted a memorable musical showdown of two of the most popular rock bands in rock history, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Performing the Beatles songs were Abbey Road and The Rolling Stones tribute Satisfaction. Both bands used three costume changes each presenting eras of rock and roll history.

    The debate of who stands the greatest began with alternating mini sets of two tribute bands engaging in an on stage mashup duel.

    The Beatles are widely characterized as classical traditional pop and rock n roll, the English rock band formed in the 1960’s. Ever since, have been regarded as one of the most influential bands of all time, achieving international and commercial success. 

    Abbey Road has become one of the most satisfying Beatles tribute acts to this day. Covering all eras including the authentic black suits from the early 60s, Sgt. Peppers regalia and the honorary Abbey Road attire. Recreating and honoring the harmony, charm and wit of the English rock band where they perform the full Beatles experience.

    On the other hand, The Rolling Stones were driven by blues, rock, pop and truly defined hard rock n roll culture. Becoming a huge part of youth culture in the 1960’s with their rebellious punk that largely influenced society and revolutionized the music industry.

    Satisfaction has become an international tribute show to honor a world known rock band entering their 20th year in production. The cast brings an authentic performance of classical hits from over 50 years of Rolling Stones history.

    Both bands hold the name and legacy that defines true rock and roll. The debate and battle between the two persists for over 50 years. Going face to face truly highlighted the band’s history and rivalry. 

    Abbey Road and Satisfaction put on an outstanding show that left the crowd with a standing ovation. Show comers sang along to every song, while the cast members interacted with the crowd shouting, “Put your hands up!”.  It was truly an unforgettable experience to bring the 60’s back to business, to celebrate and honor the legacy of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.

  • Surviving Beatles to tour with Boy George and Elton John

    A collaboration no one expected will tour this summer as ‘The New Beetles.’ Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, the two surviving members of The Beatles, will be joined by Boy George and Elton John, which, according to Starr, will allow “A new generation to be able to say they saw John, Paul, George and me, Ringo.”

    The New Beetles say they will perform classic songs from the original Beatles catalog and Boy George songs, as well as new classics such as “Instant Karma Chameleon,” “Can You Feel the Love Me Do,” “A Day in the Wind,” “Cry Baby Crying Game,” “I’m Still Seeing her Standing There,” “Do You Really Want To Hold My Hand,”  and many more.

    “I’m most excited to play “Goodbye Yellow Brick Submarine” and “Get Back, Honky Cat,” said Elton John. “I always felt like my songs could use a little influence from the Fab 4, and here we are, rehearsing “The Bitch Is Back In The USSR.” It’s really quite fascinating.”

  • Cat Stevens Covers George Harrison’s Classic “Here Comes The Sun”  

    The infamous singer of “Peace Train,” “Father & Son,” and “Wild World,” Yusuf / Cat Stevens has shared an endearing cover of “Here Comes The Sun” in tribute to George Harrison. With a gorgeous cover art designed by Yusuf’s eight-year-old granddaughter, the release marks the anniversary of what would have been George Harrison’s 80th birthday this week.

    Speaking about George Harrison’s profound influence on his own musical and spiritual journey, Yusuf says, “George Harrison was beginning to explore Eastern mysticism around the time I was hospitalized with TB, in 1968. Lying in bed, I had a lot of time on my hands and ended up reading a Buddhist book called The Secret Path. That was the beginning of my own search for the light.

    While most of my generation were just into the music, I was a bit like George, where music became the key to something much higher. Following the rages of the 60’s, his consciousness was awakened, and George transcended to levels not many people ever get to experience. You can hear it in his lyrics, and see it in the way he lived and dealt with the material world – looking for a way out. George was one of the first to put on a charity concert for the poor, at the time millions of Bangladeshis were fleeing from conflict and becoming refugees. It was a brave thing to do, and against all establishment rules. I’m happy to sing one of his songs, especially as it represents the returning of light and hope to a seriously dark and broken world.” 

    Cat Stevens is one of the most influential musical artists of all time. His signature, era-defining sound places him amongst a golden generation of British singer-songwriters whose music continues to resonate and inspire to this day. Yusuf’s line of hits include “Peace Train,” “Father & Son,” “Where Do The Children Play?,” “Wild World” and many more.

    Yusuf’s music reflects a quest for spiritual enlightenment, inner development and a passion for the natural world that continues to resonate with fans globally. Alongside his music career, Yusuf / Cat Stevens dedicates his energy to philanthropy and education. “Here Comes The Sun” is the latest in a new lineage of cover versions and closely follows Tea For The Tillerman, which saw the classic album re-imagined for a new age.
