Single art for Don't Throw Your Words

“Don’t Throw Your Words” is a hypnotic, insistent track that truly evokes the band’s dollhouse aesthetics. The dreamy vocals and recurring guitar riff create a stirring aura, repeating the lyrics “Don’t throw your words out.”

This feels like an anthem to believe in yourself. It jolts you from slower to faster and swings to reflect the back and forth of birthing self-confidence. The lyric ‘Don’t throw your words out’ repeats in the chorus with the overall message emphasizing how important our thoughts and voices are.

Emma Stacher, vocalist, guitarist, and leader of Like A Doll

Like A Doll was created by Emma Stacher, who rallied a group of childhood friends to comprise the project’s live band: Isabella Dafonseca and Gabriel Paiano on drums, Daniel Barbrack on bass/synth, Adrian Dilulio on guitar, and Leah Beck on synth. The group grew up together in NYC’s East Village neighborhood, parting ways for many to study music at Berklee College, The New School, and Purchase College. • Psymon Spine Release Kinetic Single “Boys” Ahead of Hometown Brooklyn Show

Psymon Spine, a Brooklyn-based alt-pop group, recently embarked on their US tour, finishing with a hometown show at Alphaville on October 26. The group recently released their newest single, “Boys,” alongside an official music video on October 10.

    Psymon Spine

Psymon Spine developed as members Noah Prebish and Peter Spears were in college, later adding Brother Michael to the group. Vocalist and former member Sabine Holler lends her voice to the new track, “Boys,” since her relocation to Berlin during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Boys” is an upbeat alt-pop track, featuring a new-wave-inspired melodic riff. The track features Sabine Holler’s light yet hypnotizing vocals against a synth-heavy dance rhythm. The group cites influences such as Talking Heads, Os Mutantes, and the NYC dance music scene.

By nature every Psymon Spine song must be a little cheeky to bypass our own self-criticism, but in reality ‘Boys’ is just a very earnest song about friendship.

  • Dmitry Wild Drops Newest Track, “Rock N Roll Is My Business”

Dmitry Wild, a New York-based rock artist, released his newest track, “Rock N Roll Is My Business.” Following up to his 2022 album, Electric Souls, his newest track comes alongside a few recent singles.

Inspired by an experience at a business convention, Dmitry Wild penned “Rock N Roll Is My Business” in response to a question posed to the audience, “What is your business?”. Finding himself at odds with the businesspeople and conventiongoers, he was inspired by his own answer, “Rock N Roll Is My Business.”

Wild’s newest track exudes confidence, accompanied by ever-present horns and funky, layered vocals. He latches onto the classic rock-n-roll figurehead frame, and creates a Halloween-esque sound that solidifies his place in the rock-n-roll business.

  • Cat Power To Play Carnegie Hall, Honor Bob Dylan

Singer-songwriter Cat Power has announced a special Carnegie Hall Valentine’s Day performance, recreating Bob Dylan’s iconic performance at the Royal Albert Hall.

The show will feature a 15-song recreation of Dylan’s set, and will be released as a companion to her album, Cat Power Sings Dylan: The 1966 Royal Albert Hall Concert to be released on November 10.

    Cat Power

In addition to announcing her Dylan tribute set, Power released two singles from her upcoming album. “Mr Tambourine Man” and “Like A Rolling Stone,” both live Dylan covers, honor the legendary folk musician with Power’s distinct flair.

I had and still have such respect for the man who crafted so many songs that helped develop conscious thinking in millions of people, helped shape the way they see the world. So even though my hands were shaking so much I had to keep them in my pockets, I felt real dignity for myself. It felt like a real honor for me to stand there.

    Chan Marshall (Cat Power)

Cat Power Sings Dylan: The 1966 Royal Albert Hall Concert is a recording of a live tribute show, based on Bob Dylan’s May 1966 show at Manchester Free Trade Hall. The show was put down in history as the Royal Albert Hall Concert due to a mislabeled bootleg. Dylan’s famous set featured a mid-show switch from acoustic to electric, which Power will duly recreate.

  • Shower Curtain Releases Cat-Inspired Single And New Music Video

Brazilian NYC-based band Shower Curtain dropped their first single in two years, titled “Edgar.” The group released an official music video shot in New York City, following lead vocalist Victoria Winter’s cat Edgar’s point of view.

    Edgar by Shower Curtain

The track approaches a heavy topic, as Edgar faces many medical issues. However, the music video seeks to create a lighter tone by playing with perspective: the video shifts from following the cat’s point of view at floor level to overhead shots of people searching for him.

“Edgar” is a dreamy, melancholic rock track that shows strong, deliberate use of intense guitar riffs, as well as moments where the song pulls back to showcase clear emotion.

Shower Curtain recently evolved from being Victoria Winter’s solo project to adding musicians Jill Olesen on bass, Ethan Williams on guitar, and Sean Terrell on drums.

It feels very liberating to share this song with the world. Not only is it marking a new phase for the project but I think an overall process of maturing as a creative, letting go of the old aesthetic and sound that defined Shower Curtain when I lived in Brazil. The new sound is of course a reflection of the project evolving from a solo project into a band, and the band’s contribution to this song is evident in the instrumentation.

    Victoria Winter

Shower Curtain is currently focusing on their first album, set to release sometime in 2024. In addition, they will play a celebratory show at Brooklyn venue Trans Pecos on November 9 to mark their resurgence as a group. Shower Curtain is Victoria Winter (vocals), Jill Olesen (bass), Ethan Williams (guitar), and Sean Terrell (drums).

  • NYC Folk Singer-Songwriter Dan Rauchwerk Releases Meditative “Only January Knows”

NYC’s celebrated folk singer-songwriter Dan Rauchwerk has released his brand new single, “Only January Knows.” After a decade as part of the folk duo The Lords of Liechtenstein, Rauchwerk has made a name for himself as a solo artist since 2018.

    Dan Rauchwerk

“Only January Knows” is a meditative ballad to the winter months, with Rauchwerk diving deeper into his introspective realms. With skillful guitar picking and his emotive voice, Rauchwerk injects hope into the seeming dreariness of winter in the city.

I live on the Upper West Side near Central Park, so I spend a lot of time in nature. I use my daily runs and walks in the park as a way to recharge my body and mind. It’s so easy to get completely cut off from the natural world in New York City and to get stuck in the “always on” mindset, so it’s helpful for me to see the seasons change in the park and acknowledge and appreciate the passing of time.

“Only January Knows” speaks to the significance of seasonal change and the unexpected joy I find on wintry walks in the park on snowy days when very few people are around.

    Dan Rauchwerk

Dan Rauchwerk takes great inspiration from the nature found in the beloved Central Park, which serves as a sanctuary for New Yorkers looking for a quiet moment. His new track both addresses that in vocals, and with it’s slow, swaying tempo which creates that meditative moment itself. “Only January Knows” follows his signature style of strong, clear vocals, and a heartwarmingly familiar folk tune.

Only January Knows by Dan Rauchwerk

Rauchwerk’s new single comes as a follow up to his 2018 debut solo album, We Are More Than What We Leave Behind.

Only January Knows” is available on all streaming services on October 13.

  • TANSU, NYC-Based Pop Artist Drops Second Single, “Got 2 Me”

TANSU, a NYC-based singer-songwriter, has released her brand new track titled “Got 2 Me,” sparked from a collaboration with American Authors’ Dave Rublin. “Got 2 Me” is a soul-pop ballad that shines a spotlight on the singer’s talented vocal ability.

    Got 2 Me by TANSU

TANSU takes her name from the Turkish term for the sun’s radiant touch on ocean waters just before sunrise. With roots in both Turkey and Ireland and a background in fashion, the singer has been based in New York City for 13 years after graduating from Berklee College of Music in Boston.

“Got 2 Me” is a dreamy pop ballad, punctuated by a strong synth bass line. With echoing backtrack vocals and sounds of water flowing, TANSU shows a strong grasp of the path laid by legends like Whitney Houston, from whom she cites her inspiration.

‘Got 2 Me’ is a very vulnerable song about trusting someone to love you the right way. After falling in love the wrong way, it’s all the more difficult to fall in love again, correctly. This song is about that path.

    TANSU

Last month, TANSU released “DOWNTOWN,” her first single alongside Dave Rublin of American Authors. The two met in college and formed a strong duo, combining their talents in the musical arts to form hits like “DOWNTOWN” and “Got 2 Me.”

    TANSU

TANSU continues to integrate herself into the New York City scene, having played a residency at Lafolia Restaurant in Manhattan, and lending her vocals to NYC indie hip-hop artist Lars Viola’s 2018 EP The Wash Up. She is co-producing her debut EP, set to release this summer. Stream “Downtown” and “Got 2 Me” on all platforms.

  • NYC Alt-Pop Artist Nicolas McCoppin Drops Single “more like u”

Nicolas McCoppin, the NYC-based alt-pop artist released a brand new single, “more like u,” a synth-pop track that delves into body acceptance and rebirth. The single is part of the rollout for McCoppin’s sophomore album mind motel, to be released November 10.

    Nicolas McCoppin

“more like u” is a catchy alt-pop track full of synth and fun rhythm, but the lyrics delve into meaningful topics. McCoppin sings about bodily acceptance as a gay man, referencing pressures and insecurities that led him to a new feeling of rebirth and acceptance.

‘more like u’ is by far one of the most vulnerable tracks on the record. it was a very intentional contrast to have the production feel so big against the intimate details of the relationship I had with my body at the time. I think everybody can relate to a breakup driving you a little crazy. however, as a gay man, there is an added layer of social pressure in terms of my body image. ‘more like u’ is the story of my destruction and rebirth into the person i am today – which is someone i’ve finally grown to love. I hope this song can first and foremost be a banger, but second something that offers a little comfort to people that don’t feel at home in their body. this song allowed me to reckon with myself and my image of my body and come out the other side as a more whole person.

    Nicolas McCoppin
    Mind Motel album art

“more like u” follows McCoppin’s previous single, “L.E.S. boy,” marking a new era for the up-and-coming artist. He made an official US radio debut in 2021 with his single “Heaven,” and has since skyrocketed with billboards in Times Square, becoming an Instagram Official Pride Creator, and creative collaborations with the likes of Bonnie McKee (Katy Perry – “Teenage Dream”).

Nicolas McCoppin’s new album mind motel will be released worldwide on November 10th. Album release shows in NYC, LA and Boston will be announced soon, along with vinyl and merch pre-orders. You can stream “more like u” and keep up with Nicolas on social media here
