  • Luke Mock Releases Heartwarming and Infectious Single “Love Of My Life”

Auburn-based singer/songwriter Luke Mock has released his newest single “Love Of My Life,” a haunting look at the end of a happy relationship.

    Luke Mock

In 2017, Luke Mock initially wrote “Love of My Life,” inspired by his then-girlfriend celebrating their love. Originally with a different title and a duet, the pandemic brought unexpected changes, like the end of said relationship. While dealing with the hardships of quarantine, Mock realized he was feeling intense emotions he couldn’t ignore, entirely transforming the sound of the track, infused with the powerful emotions affecting him.

Luke Mock is an indie-pop artist hailing from Auburn. His music immerses you in a captivating whirlwind of emotions, driven by catchy hooks, and delivered with genuine charm. He’s captivated many audiences, sharing stages with artists like The Driver Era, Kesha, AJR, Ryan Quinn (The Voice), and Neyla Pekarek (The Lumineers), among others. With honesty and diving into his personal side at the core of Mock’s music, he forges connections and resonates with others. Compared to Shawn Mendes, Charlie Puth, and Julia Michaels, his captivating vocals and infectious pop music elements captivate audiences.

    Luke Mock

“Love Of My Life” is a hauntingly beautiful track, encompassing the harsh emotions Mock felt when writing it. With a daring and melodic acoustic guitar flowing in the background, picking up with added percussion and beautiful strings, Mock paints a picture of a couple in love. Singing, “I want you to kiss me and make time go still/Yeah you are the one that makes my heart laugh/And you make me happy even when I’m sad,” he expertly describes the sometimes hard-to-put words to the feeling of being in love.

The added strings and piano add more of a melancholic and nostalgic touch to the track, and make you fall deeper into the words. Mock’s vocals bring you in and hold you there, with his perfectly crafted overdubbing harmonies. “Love Of My Life” is yet another strong addition to Luke Mock’s discography, showcasing his evolving and diverse range.

  • Marina Laurendi Captures Halloween Spirit in “halloween party”

Indie singer-songwriter, Marina Laurendi, is back with a second single off her upcoming Sophomore EP. The new track “halloween party,” is an ode to childhood innocence, the comfort and safety of home, and the bittersweet feeling of aging into adulthood, coming just in time for the spooky season.

Marina Laurendi is a singer/songwriter and musician, originally from the Western New York area. She started performing as an actress, singer, and dancer at a young age. Her career in musical theater led her to NYC, where she performed around the East Coast and Off-Broadway. Her music takes influence from the pulse of the NYC scene and the calmness of her Western NY upbringing.

Fusing elements of cinematic pop, alternative rock, and singer-songwriter lyricism, her nostalgic and singular sound is a breath of fresh air. She is poetic and moody, with haunting vocals and catchy melodies. Her music is steeped in personal experience yet is universally relatable.

“halloween party” is textured and dripping in ambiance, balancing soft indie rock with tender intimacy. Featuring undertones of singer-songwriter folk, muted acoustic guitar strums, quiet drums, and melodic lines, she captures the sounds that bring about the warm fuzzy feelings associated with home. The track is authentic and raw, featuring voice memos from Marina Laurendi’s childhood friends. It is honest and builds up beautifully into a bittersweet and nostalgic crescendo.

I wrote the song when we were getting ready to sell my childhood home and I was deciding what was next for me. That transitional period stirred up so many emotions and it got me reminiscing about my adolescence. Halloween parties at my childhood home are such a core memory for me and I associate them directly with my childhood and teenage years. When I think of them, I feel such a fondness for home and an appreciation of my upbringing that I didn’t truly value it until later in life.

  • Indie Rock Power Trio “ON” Unveil their latest video release ‘Gator’

Toronto-NYC indie rock power trio ON has unveiled the music video for their latest single release ‘Gator’, an infectious groove and rock waltz, released via Toronto’s Indiestructable Records on October 10.

The band ON is a power trio including lead vocalist Lucy Di Santo, drummer Dan Cornelius and guitarist Steve Fall, they continue to carry out the legacy of previously formed 90’s Sire Records band ACID TEST. The newest single ‘Gator’ encompasses infectious guitar riffs with a dash of groove that honors their post-punk, grunge, old-school funk and 90s college roots. The song is a clever blend of pop melody and raw rock, with a tight weave of classic and alternative coated with grunge. ‘Gator’ follows up the bands latest single ‘Make Me’, a song of frustration and wanted to recapture that euphoria in the new video.

“The song has a strong guitar hook and melody – and the drums are
tailored to support and enhance those elements. So I thought the drums should be a drum pattern that anyone could tap along to ON their steering wheel while waiting in traffic. Simple drum groove. Simple drum fills.”

  • A-Zal, NYC-Based Acoustic Pop Artist, Drops Single “Lonely Town”

A-Zal, a New York City-based acoustic pop artist has released his newest track, “Lonely Town,” a ballad to the quiet side of the city of New York. The release comes as a follow up to his most recent release, “Movie Script,” from August 2023.

    Lonely Town

Migrating to the US in 2018, A-Zal found a quiet, intimate side of the city through integrating with a new city and country.

When I first came to New York, the glamour and energy of Midtown NYC pulled me like a magnet. But, I eventually got refuge in the unexplored streets of the city which had an altogether different story. When I performed in the subway stations next to Times Square or Bryant Park, I had a large set of audience members who would listen to my music while they passed me. However, as I went to the quieter side of uptown, I had very few listeners. And, the magic happened when these handful of listeners grew in number and turned into my real fans.

    A-Zal

“Lonely Town” is a heartfelt, acoustic ballad that follows A-Zal’s search for company in such a vast city environment. As he navigates the “lonely town,” an ironic title considering the gradiosity of the city, the crowds and skyscrapers escape his perspective, and the city becomes his true companion.

    A-Zal

A-Zal’s latest track, “Movie Script,” released in August to great success, climbing to the Mediabase TOP 40 Activator Charts within just two weeks of its release. After working with Marvel Studios on the popular TV series, Loki and Ms. Marvel, A-Zal is expecting an upcoming album, 17 & 11 Nights, soon after his newest singles.

“Lonely Town” is now available alongside an official music video, capturing A-Zal’s journey from India to the United States in pursuit of the famed “american dream.” The video follows him as he reminisces on performances in New York City subway stations, before his most recent big break with Marvel Studios.

  • Nick Vanderwood Releases a Visionary New Single “Shimmy”

Utica-born and Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Nick Vanderwood has released his latest single “Shimmy”, a song preceding the recent EP entitled ‘Reload‘ released on September 29th.

Nick Vanderwood encapsulates alternative indie in new single “Shimmy” using a blend of guitar and bass creating a mysterious sci-fi world that is brought to life in the music video. The short film is fun and cinematic which cultivates an imaginative visual experience, showcasing Vanderwood’s artistic vision.

While “Shimmy” excludes a vocal aspect, the song in itself does more than enough without relying on vocals to make it complete. The build up of bass and guitar offers a blend of funk, syrupy and track mixed with an upbeat attitude, and recorded at Big Blue North Studio in Utica.

Following the release of his single and music video “Shimmy”, Nick’s EP Reload became the sum of many years as Nick labored to overcome a chronic neck injury that impeded his ability to sing. Nick was kept at a distance from the microphone, as the EP title suggests, he is more than ready to come back with a bang.

Vanderwood is not just a vocalist but writes and performs all instruments included in his solo projects. Over the course of the year, he took this period of silence and healing seriously while creating a silent short film/music video for “Shimmy” included in the EP. His collaboration with monomaniac studios allowed Nick to lean back into acting and sound design.

Follow Nick Vanderwood on Youtube, Facebook, and Instagram for more information on all-things such as future releases and music videos.

  • PRONOUN Returns With Style On New Single “SLAP ME IN THE FACE”

PRONOUN is back; the moniker of Brooklyn-based Alyse Vellturo released a new single and video for “SLAP ME IN THE FACE.” It’s her first release in over two years, following the 2021 release of her OMG I MADE IT EP.

    PRONOUN is Alyse Vellturo

“SLAP ME IN THE FACE” is an upbeat alt-pop single with a distinct diction and vocal style that adds flair to a tried-and-true pop rhythm. Contrasting an optimistic sound with rueful, gloomy lyrics, the single carries a captivating, earworm guitar track that shows Vellturo’s technical skill in the realm of simple, but effective. Evoking images of 2000s coming-of-age cinema, the single sets a strong tone for PRONOUN’s upcoming era.

“SLAP ME IN THE FACE is about a crazy night in with someone that turned into an internal joke of what if the world was literally fucking you. It’s about wanting a better situation but giving in and getting stuck in a moment where everything doesn’t feel horrible. This song poured out of me in one sitting; written, recorded, and produced in one day. The songs I feel the most about, always seem to come this way.”

The accompanying video shows Vellturo being absolutely pelted by dodgeballs coming at her from every angle.

Given the title, I always imagined getting somehow slapped in the face in slow motion. When putting a mood board together for the new PRONOUN era I was reminded of one of my favorite scenes in a movie. I Heart Huckabees is a film I could watch everyday until the end of time and discover a new easter egg. At one point Mark Wahlberg and Jason Schwartzmen end up on a log in the park together taking turns thwacking each other in the face with a red rubber ball until they feel a moment of nothingness. They call it ‘the ball thing.’ It fit how I was feeling perfectly when making this song. From that moment I knew it needed to be me standing in a studio getting absolutely destroyed with red dodgeballs.

  • Jonathan Wilson Releases NYC-Inspired Single ‘The Village Is Dead’

Jonathan Wilson released his latest single, “The Village is Dead,” ahead of the release of his upcoming album, Eat the Worm.

    Jonathan Wilson

Wilson, a North Carolina native, moved to Los Angeles 15 years ago. There, he became an integral part of the music community as a respected artist and producer. Also in Los Angeles, Wilson recorded his previous albums Gentle Spirit (2011), Fanfare (2013), and Rare Birds (2018).

Just prior to the pandemic, Wilson went to Nashville to record what would become Dixie Blur (2020). These were a collection of songs that harkened back to his Southern roots, both musically and personally. Dixie Blur found Wilson reaching back to the musical foundation of his upbringing while simultaneously moving forward by infusing the music with modern textures and aesthetic soundscapes

Wilson also has his own Fivestar Studios in Topanga Canyon, CA. This allowed him to devote as much time as he wanted to fine-tune the tracks.

“There are a lot of details to the songs,” Wilson said. “There’s a lot of experimentation, and almost none of the songs started as me with a guitar. I really wanted something that sounded fresh and new.”

In “The Village is Dead,” Wilson laments the evolution of New York’s Greenwich Village. While folk clubs once reigned supreme in the 1960s, the area is now gentrified and more upscale.

It’s my homage to the one-time folk revival of the ‘60s in Greenwich Village, with visions of Moondog and Dave Van Ronk crawling down MacDougal Street. But I’ve set it in 2021, where all you find is a few dozen vape shops, karaoke at the Gaslight, beer pong at the Cafe Wah, and wealthy young college boys strutting around NYU’s corner of Manhattan. At the end of the song, just as the strings rise and the music reaches a climax, two young Zoomers set fire in my narrative to Jimi Hendrix’s old guitar, at which point I throw in the towel, stating officially that ‘The Village is Dead.’

You can listen to Jonathan Wilson’s new song on all streaming services.

  • Pop/R&B Artist Sohil Releases NYC Inspired Single ‘Movie Star’

Sohil, a singer/songwriter, guitarist, and producer, released his new single, “Movie Star.” Accompanied by a music video shot in New York City, the song is a love letter to Manhattan and New York City as a whole. It blends futuristic sounds, horns, Sohil’s vocals, and self-aware lyrics to paint a true picture of the Big Apple.

Sohil began releasing music to streaming platforms in 2018. Since then, he has released numerous singles and an EP consisting of acoustic versions of several of his songs.

“My songs all give off a feeling of longing and hopefulness,” Sohil previously said in an interview. “I love lyrics that tell a story and paint a picture for the listener so they feel like they are sitting next to me on my couch while I tell them about a moment in my life.”

Sohil’s music combines a blend of sounds all across the map, including hip-hop, electronic, and soul. “Movie Star” in particular combines UK drum & bass inspirations with pop belting and a little saxophone thrown in for good measure.

The music video also acts as a companion art piece to the song. In the video, Sohil sings each line in a different part of the city and truly captures what it feels like to be in New York.

Listen to “Movie Star” on Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, and Soundcloud.

  • Guitarmy of One Releases Retro Single ‘Soylent Seafoam Green’

NYC-based artist Guitarmy of One released a new retro sci-fi inspired single, “Soylent Seaform Green.” The single’s release comes ahead of the release of The Wave Files LP.

Guitarmy of One is a solo project from guitarist Scott Helland. Helland has solo projects dating back to 1996 with his Hellbox Mood Rings CD. However, he began to release music under Guitarmy of One in 2016. Excluding the imminent release of The Wave Files, Guitarmy of One’s latest record is The Spy Detective Collective, inspired by the crime and intrigue shows of the ‘60s and ‘70s.

“I want the music to be a sonic equivalent of those shows and movies where you’re riding the waves of intrigue and espionage so the music has to match that sense of urgency and excitement,” Helland said speaking of The Spy Detective Collective. “Soylent Seafoam Green” maintains Guitarmy of One’s unique surf rock sound. However, it is also infused with inspiration from the 1973 dystopian cult sci-fi thriller Soylent Green.

The movie contains themes of overpopulation, overuse of resources, and pollution. The movie’s namesake refers to a product called Soylent Green, one of the few easily accessible foods. At the end, it’s revealed that the flavor and nutrition comes from its main ingredient—human corpses. “‘Soylent Seafoam Green’ is in keeping with my blend of the spy and surf sound and is quite dark for a surf song. However, it fits the theme of the 1973 dystopian thriller film ‘Soylent Green’ of which the song’s title is based, but don’t worry, listening to the song repeatedly won’t lead to cannibalism!” Helland said.

The song is available across all digital platforms, and Guitarmy of One will release The Wave Files on Aug. 18.
