In her own words, “Yes, indeed, there is a time and place for groovy, happy music – such was my first EP. However, I think that now it is time to clarify my beliefs and the beliefs of those I hold close.”
Present Chronicles is an EP that came to life unexpectedly, driven by the collective pain of Nora’s home country, Ukraine. As she watched the world around her, Nora couldn’t help but wonder how she could make a difference, how she could channel her anger and communicate the Ukrainian people’s struggles to the rest of the world.
The result is a musical journey that delves into themes of resilience, loneliness, betrayal, and the responsibilities that come with our heritage. It’s an exploration of the human experience during times when accepting reality is not an option.
“Some of the songs I wrote didn’t seem war-related to me at all. They didn’t feel like they encapsulated the message I wanted to put out. Some I wrote before the war even began, but soon I realized that they are very relevant. They address all of the emotional factors and burdens that came into play because of what was happening.”

Nora’s Present Chronicles doesn’t aim to invoke pity; it seeks to reveal the anger and resilience of the Ukrainian people and expose the reality of the Russian invasion. Tracks like ‘KGB‘ on the EP boldly challenge Russian propaganda and use ironic lyrics to mock the regime.

On the picturesque summer night of August 31st, Quinn XCII (pronounced Quinn ninety-two) shifted the EDM narrative of Brooklyn Mirage to experimental hip-hop pop. While the Mirage wouldn’t be the typical host for Quinn’s self-established genre of music, the wrap-around screens and pristine sound system served his performance well. Michael Temrowski, stage name Quinn XCII, has been making music since 2011 when he was a student at Michigan State. From college house parties to venues like Red Rocks and the Brooklyn Mirage, Quinn XCII has established a loyal fanbase.
Openers Stay Over and Skizzy Mars, a New York City native, revved up the crowd. It seemed that Quinn wanted to uphold the experimental artists, to pay tribute to their creativity and brave approach to navigating the music industry. Stay Over put on a show blended with rock and hip-hop, two very loud and vocal genres. Skizzy Mars also dabbled in hip-hop with a more indie flair. Both of their sounds were celebrated by the audience.

When 10:30 PM rolled around, the lights dimmed and the bass amplified. As soon as Quinn XCII stepped foot on stage, confetti cannons showered the fans in an endless spill of rainbows. People cheered and through their hands up, letting the paper wash over their faces. His most recent hit single, “Georgia Peach,” got the crowd grooving.
The setlist was a culmination of old and new music, sort of a “best of Quinn XCII” kind of performance. The audience welcomed each phase on stage with nostalgia induced excitement. Songs dating back to 2015 got the audience just as loud as his latest releases. As notes from the past wove through his set, Quinn’s personal sound was never lost. From “Kings Of Summer” by aokay featuring Quinn XCII to “The Lows,” featuring Big Sean, his reggae influenced and rap driven style remained.
Before his song, “My Wife & 2 Dogs,” Quinn stopped the show to give respect to his beloved french bulldog, Nelson, who had to be put to rest that day. Emotions were heavy on stage and respected in the audience. Each word to the song was sung from Quinn’s heart and from the chest of everyone in the audience. Behind him on stage, was a video montage of Nelson and his other pup.

For one of Quinn’s newer releases, “The Lows,” New York City artist Blu DeTiger joined him on stage to play bass. With her blue sparkly bass guitar, mini-skirt, and stomper boots, Blu added a whole other energy to the song. She tossed her lengthy blonde hair back as she headbanged to Quinn’s catchy beat. The crowd received her rock addition with vim.
Quinn XCII has been around for a lot of listeners since their grade school days. To grow up with an artist is a very intimate experience. To listen to Quinn as an adult is like getting a second chance at growing up again in your twenties. His music normalizes the wide spectrum of human emotions felt while in serious relationships, during inevitable change and stagnancy, and even while getting high in the back of your high school girlfriend’s car. The show at Brooklyn Mirage was a celebration of being alive and figuring it out.

As the show came to a close, the audience chanted for an encore before Quinn was able to leave the stage. He exited the stage, but the lights darkened to a deep blue. Before everyone knew it, Quinn was back singing his first encore song, “Always Been You.” The next song, “Another Day In Paradise,” was another crowd favorite from one of Quinn’s most esteemed records, “Change Of Scenery.” Before he started to sing, he spoke sentimentally to the crowd about being present: “The good shit, the bad shit – nothing is permanent, let it pass…”

Quinn XCII wrapped his show with one of his youngest songs, “Candle.” His original fans bounced on their feet and swayed their arms the entire song, almost as a wave goodbye. The confetti went off once more before the show wrapped. Quinn XCII at the mirage was the perfect summer send off. As the confetti settled and Quinn and his band took a bow, the night ended on a good note.
The Bowery Ballroom hosted the Brooklyn-born band, HOKO, on the evening of Wednesday, August 23rd. On tour in support of almost monday and the WEATHERS, HOKO branded their name into the minds of their modest but curious New York City audience. This fifteen stop USA tour is HOKO’s first tour debut, and they are making sure to impress along the way. Through the vehicle of their experimental style, they are refreshing the palettes of listeners with a sound unlike anything they’ve ever heard.

Bodies trickled into the ballroom as time climbed towards HOKO’s set. Conversation vibrated across the floor, people expressing their excitement about the headliners and a few eager to watch HOKO’s set, while others volleyed HOKO’s name around with intrigue.
When the lights dimmed, everyone’s attention was pulled towards the darkness resting on stage. Blue light hues swirled across faces of the crowd while the band presented themselves on stage. Bass came through the floor, tugging at peoples’ bones, demanding their presence. After a minute long introduction of pure sensation, the first guitar riff electrified the atmosphere to kick-off a night of music.

HOKO opened with their song “Pretender.” Dense guitar riffs and confident vocality drew the audience into captivation. Their sound projected something heavier than the typical pop-rock song. The tones and intensity of the instrumentals almost felt dark – not in a dangerous way but in an enticing manner.
It was impossible to name a comparable sound to them, they felt fresh. Listeners bounced around artist names, “COIN,” “Bleachers,” “B-52’s,” “Zeppelin.” That vast of a name pool proved testament to their individuality.

It’s difficult to be truly unique in the music industry, to not fall into the coddle of a niche, to not be a genre artist. HOKO has taken the liberty of demolishing musical barriers, and redefining flexibility in relation to their production. Their sound cannot be labeled, for they are rock, they are electric, they are pop, they are psychedelic. They are ever-evolving. As the night progressed, it became evident that something of impressive massivity is to come from HOKO.

Lead singer, Nathaniel Hoho, absorbed the ballroom’s energy and gave a rockstar level performance. He got in the crowd to mosh with the audience. He climbed atop speakers, and entertained the cameras. He engaged with fans in between songs. Half way into their set, it became hard to believe HOKO had never toured prior to this, for their presence suggested years of being fluid and daring on the stage. Their performance felt too big for a stage the size of Bowery’s.

One of HOKO’s most popular songs, “Candy Eyes,” gripped the evening when it made its way through the setlist. Guitarist and esteemed string player, Jesse Kotansky, brought out his violin for the song. To hear the harmony of the violin with Hoho’s powerful voice was a beautiful display of musical juxtaposition. Versatility receives respect from concert goers. Though a handful of the audience didn’t know of HOKO before the show, they were sure to remember them after the night the band gave them.

Their production value implied experimentation and play as a priority. The boldness, the confidence, the yearn to perform created a high that everyone suspended in. People finally began to move their bodies and sing along with the band, as if they developed a sort of trust with HOKO’s sound. A sureness between the classicality of rock and the future of pop.

Unfortunately, HOKO’s set was merely a half hour long. The show could have carried into the next set and closed out the night, alas Weathers and almost monday had shows of their own to put on. Hoho brought the evening to a clean close when he jumped down into the crowd, parted the mass of bodies in half, and disappeared through the back of the crowd.

Declan McKenna’s electrifying performances at Brooklyn Steel and Webster Hall in New York City were nothing short of exhilarating. At Brooklyn Steel, a fan brought a stuffed Kermit the Frog plushie dressed as Declan, adding a whimsical touch to the show. During “Why Do You Feel So Down,” Declan took Kermit from the fan and playfully placed it on the speaker behind him. Later, during “Rapture,” he playfully threw Kermit into the air during a guitar breakdown, seamlessly blending fun and artistry.

The Webster Hall show was equally exhilarating, with Declan impressively leaping from piano to tambourine and back during “Isombard.” The crowd turned into a choir during the chorus of “Make Me Your Queen,” elevating the song’s emotional impact. Instead of the planned cover, Declan surprised the audience with “I’m the Man, That Will Find You,” by Connan Mockasin showcasing his versatility as an artist.
As the second encore began with “British Bombs,” Declan took the energy to a whole new level, executing one-legged spin jumps and rolling on the ground while passionately belting out the last chorus. The show ended with Declan being handed bouquets from the adoring crowd, which he graciously accepted and posed triumphantly.

The Sackets Harbor Historical Society recently announced its Concerts on the Waterfront Series. The performances will take place each Sunday from June 25 to September 3 and are free to the public. With its lakeview and beautiful scenery, Sackets Harbor Battlefield will host each of the concerts.
Located on the shores of Lake Ontario, Sackets Harbor has long been associated with its military roots. The town became the Great Lakes headquarters for the United States during the War of 1812. Rich with history, Sackets Harbor celebrates its 39th season of music with this year’s Concerts on the Waterfront.

Jess Novak is an immensely talented musician, who sings, writes, plays the fiddle and performs with powerful vocals. Along with Novak, the band is made up of Byron Cage, Anthony Saturno, Jabare McKinstry, and Gavin George. The Syracuse-based band performs pop, rock, and soul.
July 30: Letizia and the Z Band
Letizia and the Z Band are a multidimensional group focusing on 40s classics, 50s rock, Motown, disco, and 90s techno. Letizia’s captivating voice pairs well with horns, a guitar, and alto and tenor saxophones.
Aug 6: Hot Club of Saratoga
Mant of the songs Hot Club of Saratoga performs were written or recorded by legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt. The band reflects his style while also expanding upon the “gypsy jazz” sound.
Aug 13: The Kim Pollard Band
Kim Pollard is a Canadian songwriter and performer who has a diverse set of original music. Together with her band, Pollard infuses blues, jazz, and funk into powerful ballads and spirituals.
Aug 20: 10th Mountain Division Army Band
The 10th Mountain Division Army Band is composed of 41 soldier-musicians, capable of performing in a variety of configurations, styles, and venues.
Aug 27: The Large Flowerheads
The Large Flowerheads channels the energy and sound of the 1960s. Their repertoire includes songs by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Sonny & Cher, Dusty Springfield, The Mamas & The Papas, The Monkees, and many more.
Sept 3: Maria DeSantis Orchestra
This legendary band features vocalists Keith Condon, Gary Branch, Michael Ranalli, and Maria DeSantis. The group is known for its signature big band sound which has been refined and perfected throughout the groups 70 year legacy.

Despite a minor setback earlier in the day, with Luke breaking his pinky, the band turned it into a playful guessing game during their set. Nico, the charismatic frontman, challenged the crowd to speculate on the cause of Luke’s injury, teasing them with the statement, “You’ll literally never guess.” Hilarious suggestions of door-related incidents were quickly debunked, fueling the curiosity of the fans. To their surprise, it was revealed that the pinky was actually broken in a Frisbee accident, leaving many scratching their heads and engaging in animated discussions.

Pop icon Taylor Swift finished her run of hometown Pennsylvania shows to a record breaking crowd in Pittsburgh Saturday, June 17. She also happened to be the first tour to play in the Acrisure Stadium twice. However, breaking records is nothing new for Taylor. She has been dominating the music charts for the past decade and somehow still continues to surpass her previous records.

A sunny day in Pittsburgh made it perfect for the first opener of the night OWENN to make his mark on The Eras Tour. This artist looks to mix bluesy rock with airy R&B. He exudes an enigmatic spirit that no doubt comes from his many years working as a backup dancer for Taylor and other renowned pop stars. Indie pop musician Girl in Red followed up the night with her intense guitar riffs and rockstar energy. She creates music in the lens of a gay woman who talks about love in the queer space. She performed popular hits “… i wanna be your girlfriend,” and “bad idea!”.

Settling into everyones seats before Taylor took the stage is an environment that can not be recreated anywhere else. Fans are decked out in memes, iconic Swift looks, handmade outfits, and even dressed as her pet cat. From young girls to dads, the crowd is full of an array of people. A lot of which carry around friendship bracelets that they trade with other fans. All inspired by the song “You’re On Your Own Kid.” The Eras Tour pushes connection and bonding between people who might not rather say a word to each other. How many concerts do you go to and not even talk to all the strangers standing around you for those few hours? The level that Taylor Swift is at undoubtedly prompts lack of intimacy that smaller shows get. Taylor recognizes this and uses tactics to create a loving space for her fans. Something that the artist is all too familiar with: seeing the status quo and going against it yet again.
No Bad Seats
The anticipation before Taylor took the stage was uncanny as fans ran to their seats. Chaos definitely ensued once the two-minute timer went on the big screen. Something about a Taylor Swift concert that stands true is that calling it a “concert” just doesn’t feel like a big enough word to encapsulate the broadway production happening on stage. The countless outfit changes, dance routines, fireworks, introspective visuals, pyro, and acting performances are nothing short of spectacular. There is no bad seats at this show. No matter if you’re in the nosebleeds or on the floor, this tour offers so much to their audience visually.

Immediately as Taylor was seen by the crowd everyone went insane. There were tears shed, people hugging, and just about everyone screaming. It’s been five years since she has toured so it was only fitting that she opened up the night with “Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince,” with the line ‘it’s been a long time coming.’ As the night proceeded Taylor took us through the many eras she has had over the years beginning with the album Lover.

With a throwback to Fearless and traveling to the Folklore house this show was a journey for fans. Many of which have grown up with Taylor and could pin point moments in their life with song releases. As she has gone through these different eras so has her avid listeners. The artist pays homage to her lifelong fans by having an acoustic session each night to play two secret surprise songs. She first brought out special guest Aaron Dessner in honor of Father’s Day Weekend. The two performed “seven” which examines troubled relationships with fathers. Taylor called to celebrate her own Dad that day as well as any fathers or father figures for those in the crowd. The second surprise song wished to celebrate Taylor’s rerecording of Speak Now which releases on July 7. She played the song “The Story of Us” on that album which left fans excited.

The Eras Tour Leaving its Mark
The span of The Eras Tour goes through Taylor’s 10 studio albums beginning in 2006 with Debut. There’s something special about seeing a musical artist have an intense and overwhelming support over the many years. Each album has countless hits that has broken records. Her heart wrenching lyricism and catchy beats has only improved with each release. The fanbase has strengthened over the years and continues to takeover cities with each stop over the weekend. A craze that seems all too similar to Beatlemania. Swifties are dominating the concert space. They have supported her relreases of albums so she can own her own art and sold out this tour. Even fans who couldn’t score tickets have driven countless hours just to stand outside the stadium to hear her songs.

Whether you are a hardcore Taylor Swift fan or not, you can’t deny that she is the moment. She herself has defined this era in time, not only in the music space but in our culture. In the way we tell stories and view our idols. In the way we choose to consume media and celebrate our friendships. The third annual Brewster Summer Music Series returns with seven straight weeks of programming. Organized by the Town of Southeast Cultural Arts Coalition (CAC), the concerts will run every Wednesday from June 14 through July 26.
All of the performances will take place at the Veterans Park Gazebo in Brewster. The concerts will also feature contests, raffles, and food. The artists performing come from a diverse set of genres including rock, pop, jazz, and more.
CAC is a non-profit group that aims to create and preserve the cultural arts of the Town of Southeast and nearby communities. Along with the Summer Music Series, the organization is also involved with a space to showcase local art and the renovation of Southeast’s Old Town Hall.
Brewster is a village located in southeast Putnam County and is part of the town of Southeast. The village made a name for itself as it was a prominent stop on the railroad line that ran from New York City.
