moe. announces 2-night run at Saranac Brewery in June, Summer Tour Dates Nationwide

Following a monumental weekend in Albany at the Palace Theatre, moe. has announced that they will be returning to New York this June for a two-night run at Saranac Brewery in Utica. The shows will take place over June 9-10, following the group’s return from Summer Camp Music Festival.

A special artist pre-sale begins at 10am ET on March 1 using the password HOPPYHOUR, and 2-day passes will be available for purchase here. A limited number of VIP Experience tickets will also be available via the artist pre-sale, to include a pre-show party at 1888 Tavern, early concert entry, a private bar & viewing area, and more.

These shows will mark the 17th and 18th shows for moe. at Saranac Brewery, a venue mentioned in “Happy Hour Hero” and regularly the beer of choice at moe.down festivals. Hoppy Hour Hero, a moe.saic IPA, was crafted by Saranac in 2015, with a flavor described on Untappd as “Combining the intensely piney, citrusy, and tropical fruit aroma and flavor of Citra, Mosaic, and Simcoe hops, this Double IPA is a liquid jam-session of big hop flavor. Packed with pineapple, mango, and passionfruit hop character, this is a big beer with a full body and firm bitterness.”

A Wonderful Weekend of moe. at the Palace Theatre

For the first time since 2018, moe. returned to the Palace Theatre stage in Albany for a pair of shows with new band member Nate Wilson on keys. The shows were marked by a proclamation earlier that day from Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan to rename part of North Pearl Street as moe.street.

While moe. did play a live-streamed show from the Palace Theatre lobby in 2020, the return to the stage was marked by welcoming back Chuck Garvey for his sixth and seventh shows back with moe., following recovery from a stroke. This was also the first time moe. fans in Albany would be seeing a sextet, as Nate Wilson has officially joined the band on keys, finding a natural fit next to guitarist Al Schnier, as the tones of these two would add layers to classic and fresh moe. tunes alike.

Friday night was marked by a proclamation amending moe.day (February 24) to be moe.weekend, read from the stage by City of Albany Treasurer, Darius Shanifar (filling in for Mayor Sheehan). With that, Shanifar introduced six guys named moe., as the band made their way onto the stage and began the run with an extended “Billy Goat,” which segued into “Bearsong” after much hinting from percussionist Jim Loughlin via his vibraphone. The underrated “Crushing” surged forth next and made way for “Blue Jeans Pizza,” a great song made even greater with the inclusion of Wilson on keys. Following “ATL” and “Don’t Wanna Be”, Suke Cerulo, who filled in on guitar during Garvey’s absense, joined for “McBain”, a song Cerulo has become quite familiar with, leading to a psychedelic jam among the seven musicians on stage.

Set 2 opened with the rarely played Tin Cans and Car Tires tune “Again and Again,” only having been played twice previously in the last decade. Another bust out followed in “Faker”, not played since 12/30/2018. “The Road” held its own with Wilson adding additional layers, while “Water” marked the first time it was played since Chuck returned last month in Huntington. To close out the set, back to back 16-minute versions of “Downward Facing Dog” and “The Pit” were the icing on the cake, with “The Pit” accented by Wilson’s use of flute and the band coming out strong as ever for a fan favorite show stopper.

An encore of “Letter Home” and “Captain America” bid the crowd a good night, as the kids kept dancing long after the show. Options afterward were plentiful, with fans opting for Cerulo at Empire Underground, Hilltop at Parish Public House, or for the adventurous, a Shrek Rave at Empire Live.

Saturday proved to be just as hot inside despite wintery weather outside. Karina Rykman wowed the audience as the opener, showing off her power-trio’s sound and rock-star vibe that is as infectious as her inspired playing. Rykman would come up later in the evening for the guest-friendly “Meat” that saw her trade bass licks with Rob Derhak over the course of an 11 minute jam session.

moe. would open their set with a slow-building “Lazarus,” followed by “Seat of My Pants.” Nate Wilson continued to make his presence known in the extended “Sensory Deprevation Bank” followed by the newer “Jazz Cigarette.” Conehead Buddha’s Shannon Lynch joined the band for “Happy Hour Hero,” taking centerstage for a solo, reuniting musicians who have been playing together in the Albany scene for more than 30 years.

A four song, hour-long second set was as tight on paper as the band is in person – from the first notes of “Waiting for the Punchline,” through the always enjoyable “Kyle’s Song,” the dark grooves of “Puebla” and ol’ reliable “Rebubula.” To wrap things up, “Plane Crash” took the encore slot, before fans rolled out onto moe.street following two memorable and sentimental moe shows at the Palace Theatre.

City of Albany renames North Pearl Street “moe.street,” Declares moe.day “Alive And Well” On 5th Anniv.

With moe. preparing for their two-night run at Albany’s Palace Theatre, starting tonight, February 24, which is the city’s fifth annual “moe.day,” the City of Albany has announced that it is temporarily renaming N. Pearl, the street on which the Palace Theatre stands, to moe.street, effective immediately.

The announcement honors deep ties between moe. and the City of Albany, which began with the band’s early days living together on Central Avenue in the ‘90s. Their first performance at the Palace Theatre took place on February 23rd, 1996, as part of a “Rock The Vote” concert, and this Saturday will mark the band’s 17th appearance at the venue, in addition to a short video concert they filmed in the Palace Theatre Lobby in the fall of 2020.

We are overwhelmed with the love the City Of Albany has given our band over the years. From declaring Feb 24th as ‘moe.day’ to this, the dedication of ‘moe.street in front of The Palace Theatre, we are humbled and deeply honored.

Albany’s annual moe.day was established in February 2018, to celebrate the band’s first appearance in the city following bassist Rob Derhak’s treatment for oropharyngeal cancer. Today, less than two months after the return of guitarist Chuck Garvey to the road full-time following his stroke in 2021, Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan declared moe.day “alive and well.”

Following moe.’s apperances in Albany this weekend, the next leg of the band’s tour will center around the southeast, with a number of dates in Florida, followed by a 2-night run at Variety Playhouse in Atlanta on March 23-24. The tour will then conclude with a string of April/May dates, culminating in Kansas City on Wednesday, May 3rd, a 3-night run at Brooklyn Bowl, and the Summer Camp Music Festival from May 25-28th. It was also recently announced that keyboardist Nate Wilson, who first sat in with the band during Garvey’s recovery last year, is now an official member of the band and will perform at all of moe.’s performances, going forward.

With their eyes set on the State Theatre in Portland, Maine, moe. has just announced they will hold a special 3-night run at Brooklyn Bowl in Williamsburg over May 18-20, wrapping up their winter/spring tour.

Presented by Relix, the run of shows follows the return of guitarist Chuck Garvey to the road full-time following his stroke in 2021, and the more recent announcement that keyboardist Nate Wilson, who first sat in with the band during Garvey’s recovery last year, is now an official member of the band and will perform at all of moe.’s performances, going forward.

moe. Announce Permanent Addition of Keyboardist Nate Wilson and Added Tour Dates

moe. has announced that keyboardist Nate Wilson, who toured with the group last summer, will become a permanent member of the group. They also announced added tour dates for their Winter/Spring tour, in addition to Albany dates on Feb. 24 and 25.

moe.

Nate Wilson (Percy Hill) has been playing with the group since guitarist Chuck Garvey suffered a stroke in November 2021. Garvey is still recovering but joined back with the group for their NYE concert. In a December 2022 interview with Relix and talked about his recovery, and how he is relearning his fine motor skills, and says that music has been a huge help in his recovery.

moe. has had a lot of success and longevity since its creation due to its engaged fanbase, aka the fa.moe.ly which has led them to do headline tours, international festival sets, music-themed cruises, and sold-out shows alongside countless household-name artists. They have even promoted and headlined multiple festivals of their own, including snoe.down and moe.down.

moe., now with the addition of Nate Wilson, is comprised of Al Schnier (guitar, vocals), Chuck Garvey (guitar, vocals), Rob Derhak (bass, vocals), Jim Loughlin (percussion, vibes), and Vinnie Amico (drums). Derhak commented about Wilson joining the group in a statement. “We are thrilled to announce that our long-time friend, keyboardist Nate Wilson will be joining moe. full-time moving forward,” he says. “Former founding member of both Percy Hill, and Assembly of Dust (and current band leader for Ghosts Of Jupiter), Nate has been part of our lineup since our first shows without Chuck Garvey. He has since proven himself a valued contributor to our sound, and now with Chuck back in the groove, he compliments our overall style.”

Wilson commented about how excited he was to join the group, saying “The band and their fans are legends. Can’t wait to hit the road this spring!” moe. will be embarking on a Winter/Spring tour, with stops in Albany at the Palace Theater on Feb. 24 and 25. One moe. Bottle at The Wellmont Theatre

moe. performed a scorching show at The Wellmont Theatre in Montclair, NJ on their Winter Tour. Fans and band mates were happy to see Chuck Garvey back in action, sounding good as ever. Chuck mentioned how grateful he was to be back up on the stage playing with the band.

The band opened with a classic, catchy, full of camel lights “Happy Hour Hero.” (Luckily this was the song stuck in my head all day.) With Nate Wilson on keyboards the entire show, later in the first set there was a well-jammed out “Nebraska” and a band debut of “Long Time Gone” by Crosby, Stills, Nash in honor of the recent passing of David Crosby.

The second set opened up with a psychedelic heavy “Fearless,” a Pink Floyd cover, which gave way to another cover, this time of progressive rock band, Yes, with “Starship Trooper.” The second set proved to be energy filled and jam heavy, ending with “Yodelittle” > “Rebubula” > “Buster” before swinging back into “Rebubla.” moe. wrapped up the show with an epic “Seat of My Pants”

moe. Kicks Off Winter Tour With The Return Of Chuck Garvey

moe. kicked off their Winter 2023 tour on Thursday, January 19th at The Paramount in Huntington. Fresh off guitarist Chuck Garvey’s triumphant, yet limited return to the stage on New Year’s Eve in Philadelphia, the tour marks the first time Chuck will be back in the lineup full-time since suffering a stroke in November 2021.

The band made the announcement at the end of their three night run in Colorado to the amazement of the fans that Chuck would indeed be a “special guest” on New Year’s. Fan’s welcomed Chuck to the stage in Huntington chanting “Chuck! Chuck! Chuck…” as he casually took his place on stage as if it was business as usual.

Ever since Chuck left the band after his stroke, moe. kept the wheels turning with additional personnel Nate Wilson (keyboards) and Michael ‘Suke’ Cerulo (guitar). Nate and Michael filled the void left by Chuck and allowed the band to keep playing shows. On Thursday at the Paramount, Nate Wilson was still playing keys for the entire show and the band sounded as if they never missed a step. moe. cruised through their 10-song opening set in about an hour, with chants and cheers for Chuck between every song break.

Chuck was stoic throughout the show, seemingly trying not to bring the focus on his return, but rather celebrate his virility and founding place in the band without fanfare. Fans were well aware of the gravity of the show they were a part of, squeezing out a few smirks and waves from Chuck between song to audible delight.

moe.’s short winter tour is focused in the Northeast and rolls through February with two legs. This first stretch wraps up at The Wellmont Theater in Montclair, NJ on Saturday, January 21st. Chuck Garvey to return to the road full-time with moe.

Just two weeks after his very special appearance at moe.’s New Year’s Eve performance in Philadelphia, founding guitarist Chuck Garvey has announced that he will be returning to the road full-time for the band’s 21-date winter 2023 tour.

The tour will kick off on Long Island with the January 19th performance at The Paramount in Huntington, recently named the top club worldwide, by PollStar.

Thank you for your well-wishes and your donations, without which my recovery would not have happened, This year has been a really long, difficult one for me, but a rewarding one, in that I learned what a person needs to do to achieve goals. Some are basic, everyday things like speech, and some are more about universal things that I noticed about family, friends, and community that keep us all afloat.

The long-awaited announcement comes 13 months after Garvey suffered a stroke, just after the band’s Halloween 2021 performance, which would not have happened without the support of the moe. community, according ot the band.

Bassist Rob Derhak, who himself battled cancer and took time away from moe. in 2017, gave perspective to Chuck’s return to the band:

This past year has been a trying time for moe., as a band. We were faced with an unthinkable decision of replacing our brother Chuck with another guitarist. Suke stepped in and stepped up. He brought his unique style, unparalleled talent, and hyper-focused work ethic into the group. Without his help, we wouldn’t have been able to survive the last year, and I think I speak for all of us when I say that we are eternally grateful. Thank You Suke Cerulo.
