On Thursday, Dec 28, Dogs In a Pile took center stage at Sony Hall, just a stone’s throw away from Madison Square Garden, where Phish kicked off their much anticipated four-night New Year’s Eve Run. Branded as “The Dog Pound” by the band themselves, fervent fans flocked to the venue, securing their spots before Phish even finished their encore. The eclectic crowd, covered in classic Phish donut wear, Aztec patterns, and tie-dye attire, brought an energy that permeated the air.
Having traversed the entire country on a busy fall tour, Dogs In A Pile had recently graced various New York venues, from Lafayette to Trumansburg, and Williamsburg. Smiles were seen all around as Keyboard player Jeremy Kaplan kicked off the night with a solo opening number, a classical-sounding ballad that set the tone for the night—soon joined by Jimmy Law (guitar and vocals), Joe Babick (drums and vocals), Sam Lucid (Bass), and Brian Murray (guitar and vocals).
Taking the stage shortly after midnight, fans were jumping, jiving throughout the venue from the rails to the back. Dogs In A Pile’s unique sound is a harmonious blend of the unfamiliar and the strangely familiar. Elements of funk, jazz, and classic psychedelic rock ring out, and their songs are carefully constructed, invoking a circus of sound and feeling. The show was complemented by vibrant lighting, captivating The Dog Pound until the wee hours of the morning, almost reaching 4 AM.
A special moment came when the band paid homage to the maestros themselves. The iconic notes of “Harry Hood” rang out, showcasing the band’s technical prowess and precision. With an encore of their popular song “Truck Rum”, the evening winded down and fans retreated home just before sunrise. The echoes of this night continued to reverberate. Dogs in A Pile kept the Phish party alive and elevated it to new heights- a testament to the band’s overall aura and momentum.
For fans in Saratoga Springs, Dogs In A Pile will be at Putnam Palace on 12/30 & 12/31 for what’s sure to be an incredible New Year’s Eve celebration!

Dogs In A Pile, a jam quintet, has announced their 2024 “Cross Country Winter Tour” starting in February, with one stop in Woodstock.
Forming in 2019 and hailing from Asbury Park, NJ – Dogs In A Pile is comprised of Berklee alumni and Billy Joel scholarship recipient Jeremy Kaplan (keyboardist), Berklee alumnus Brian Murray (guitarist) and Sam Lucid (bassist), and long-time Jersey Shore musicians Jimmy Law (guitarist) and Joey Babick (drums). Law and Babick have both been playing together since the young age of 11.
Upstate New York has been particularly special to this band in its formative year. This year, they’v sold out headlining nights and Rochester and Ithaca, as well as several festivals in the surrounding area. On top of their stop in Woodstock, they’ll also be celebrating New Year’s Eve in Saratoga Springs at Putnam Place.
Dogs In A Pile (DIAP) will start 2024 off in Texas. February 1 -3 will mark a trio of Texas firsts – with inaugural headlining stops in Houston at Last Concert Cafe, Austin at Antone’s and Dallas at Deep Ellum Art Co.
Following their run deep in the heart of the US, the Dogs and Andy Frasco & The U.N. will add to their recent string of collaborations with six shows together. The bands have meshed well on stage – elevating each other’s already high level of creativity, energy and fun-filled atmospheres that fans have come to expect from both groups. Among the stretch will come DIAP’s first time playing in the state of Oklahoma (on February 9 at Beer City Music Hall in Oklahoma City).
Winter Tour will also include a two-night run at the historic Bluebird Theater in Denver, CO on February 16 and 17. The band and the “Mile High City” have gotten to know each other well in 2023, with the Dogs netting four consecutive sellouts at Lost Lake Lounge back in March and April. Around that same time, the band played all across “The Centennial State” during a formative tour dubbed “The Winter Rescue Tour.” More recently, when opening for Pigeons Playing Ping Pong in November, they played in front of their largest indoor crowd to date – 2,000 people at The Mission Ballroom.
The newly announced 20 dates will culminate on St. Patrick’s Day weekend. The four-day affair features a pair of two-night runs in Pembroke, MA and Burlington, VT. After selling out their last Boston-area gig at The Sinclair, they’ll return to Soundcheck Studios on March 14 and 15. The tour then concludes at the much-lauded Nectar’s – the site of 47 Phish shows from 1984-1989. The Dogs will play their first two at the fabled Vermont spot on March 16 and 17.
The five-piece are rounding out an extensive fall tour that will end on December 8 in Raleigh, NC. They’ll close out the calendar year with a pair of holiday gigs at the legendary Stone Pony on December 15 and 16, a Phish after-party at Sony Hall on December 28, and their first headlining New Year’s Eve run in Saratoga Springs on December 30 and 31.
Fast-rising jam band Dogs In A Pile (DIAP) will end their highly successful 2023 year playing two gigs at Putnam Place in Saratoga Springs on Dec. 30 and 31. The run will mark the Dogs’ first time playing headlining shows on New Year’s Eve. The band will also perform at the legendary Stone Pony in Asbury Park on Dec. 15 and 16.
DIAP fittingly chose the Upstate New York region for this special occasion as it has become a second home to the band over its formative years. This year alone, they’ve sold out headlining nights in Rochester and Ithaca, have played several festivals in the area (Memorial Meltdown, Rye Bread, Catskill Mountain Jubilee, and ADK Fest), and will return to Putnam Place after selling out the 500-capacity space for one show back in March.
New Jersey-based jam band Dogs In A Pile will begin an extensive national tour in the fall. Starting on Sept. 6, the band will make their inaugural visit to Madison, WI to play at the High Noon Saloon. The next night will see them return to Chicago, IL to play Lincoln Hall following a sold-out show in the Windy City earlier in the year at Martyrs’. They will then support the rambunctious Andy Frasco & The U.N. on Sept. 8 at the Canopy Club in Urbana, IL.
The Dogs will follow up their Midwest shows with headlining gigs in Nashville, TN at The Basement East with support from talented pickers Airshow. They will round out the first leg of the tour with a High Point, NC date on Sept. 10 at COHAB.SPACE. Support for this show will feature five-piece rock band Tand and blues-groove locals The Wright Ave. The band will play Wormtown Music Festival in Greenfield, MA on Sept. 16 followed by a Sept. 22 slot at Tumble Down aside headliners Twiddle and Pigeons Playing Ping Pong.
The second leg of their headlining Fall Tour will continue in Columbus, OH on Sept. 27 at The Summit Music Hall. Grand Rapids, MI-based Desmond Jones will offer support to the Dogs the next night in Ferndale, MI at The Magic Bag with the following two shows being supported by the versatile Pittsburgh four-piece The Roof. Those dates will be played at Mr. Smalls in Pittsburgh, PA, and The State Theatre in State College, PA, respectively.
Dogs In A Pile will head east in October to play Higher Ground in South Burlington, VT followed by a headlining turn at the NY Harvest Festival in Trumansburg, NY. They will then make their third stop in Cambridge, MA at The Sinclair. Rounding out the weekend on Oct. 8, they’ll join The Del McCoury Band on The Ramble Festival’s lineup in Darlington, MD. The band will return to the Northeast for their biggest headlining shows in Brooklyn and Philadelphia, PA at The Music Hall of Williamsburg on Oct. 20 and Brooklyn Bowl Philadelphia on Oct. 21.
The five-piece will then embark on a supporting run with jam-funk quartet Pigeons Playing Ping Pong across 16 dates in the South, Rocky Mountain region, Pacific Northwest, and West Coast before playing two dates (Nov. 29 and Dec. 2) to support Andy Frasco & The U.N.

The third and final stretch of headlining dates will see the Dogs return to Virginia for a first-time visit to Roanoke at the 5 Points Music Sanctuary on Dec. 7. The tour will continue on Dec. 8 at The Pour House Music Hall in Raleigh, NC once again with support by The Wright Ave. The band will end their 41-date Fall Tour on Dec. 9 at a to-be-announced city and venue.

Jam band Twiddle has announced the return of Tumble Down, held at Wonderland Forest in LayFayette from Sept. 22-23.
With their indefinite hiatus planned for the end of 2023, Twiddle announced the return of the Tumble Down Festival, their curated festival highlighting important bands in the scene, as well as performances by the group. Twiddle is comprised of members Mihali Savoulidis [vocals, guitar], Ryan Dempsey [keys, organ, synth], Adrian Tramontano [drums], and Zdenek Gubb [bass]. They recently celebrated the release of their fifth full-length album Every Last Leaf. Over the past almost two decades, the group has performed many at notable places and started traditions of their own, including Tumble Down and their annual Frendsgiving celebration.
Tumble Down Festival at Wonderland Forest will take place at a brand new event space, campground and concert venue located in the rolling hills of Central New York’s Apple Valley. Wonderland Forest’s mission is to create new connections through a love of music and nature in a pristine landscape of lush forests, spectacular waterfalls, and glorious vistas.

For this fifth edition of the Tumble Down Festival, fans will be treated to four sets of Twiddle, in addition to sets from Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Andy Frasco + The U.N., Dopapod, Dogs in a Pile (x2), and a solo set from Twiddle’s own, Mihali. A rare set from The Breakfast (featuring Adrian Tramontano of Twiddle), as well as music from Baked Shrimp and Mike Powell top off the stacked lineup.

The Catskill Mountain Jubilee 2023 lineup has been announced, returning to Blackthorne Resort in East Durham from Aug. 10-12.
The Catskill Mountain Jubilee 2023 features three nights of music, with two full performances from The Disco Biscuits, Melvin Seals with Karl Denson, and many more. Returning for the third year in a row, the event will take place from Aug. 10-12 at Blackthorne Resort in East Durham. In a recent announcement, new performers added to the lineup include two sets by Twiddle, BlueStar Radiation featuring Lotus’ Tim Palmieri with Rob Derhak, Nate Wilson and Vinnie Amico from moe., Mihali (solo), Sophistafunk, The Englishtown Project, Ben Silver & Allen Aucoin, Gratefully Yours and many more. The NY Harvest Festival & Freedom Fair are returning to Ithaca for the 26th straight year of celebrating music, arts, and cannabis culture. Taking place October 6-9, 2023 at the Trumansburg Fairgrounds, attendees will get to experience a packed musical lineup along with interactions with local cannabis companies.

Saturday, October 7th’s lineup will additionally feature more local New York talent, as Sophistafunk, The Garcia Project, Gratefully Yours, and special guest Immortal Technique will all take the stage.
Other artists anticipating performances at the event include The Tyler Neal Band, Tony Vacca & World Rhythms, EARTH, The Cosmic Charlies, and so many other up-and-coming local talents.
Lastly, the festival’s main event, the Cannabis Cup, takes place Sunday, October 8 at 4:20 pm, and festival producer and veteran NY cannabis activist Rob Robinson will be the host. Known as America’s longest-running cannabis cup, everyone over 21 that wants to be, gets the opportunity to be a judge.

Also on this year’s lineup were Twiddle, Dogs in a Pile, TAUK, Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, Mihali and Frends, One Time Weekend, and Annie in The Water. The two-day event as always included a wide variety of craft and food vendors, a short walk from the shores of Lake George.
Memorial Meltdown bookends the summer at Charles R. Wood festival commons, with the Labor Day weekend Adirondack Independence Music Festival. The two fests have grown to nearly the same size, following Meltdown, meaning this September’s ADK Fest will have even more in store that is not to be missed!

Fresh off live scoring The Fifth Element at The Caverns in Tennessee, The Disco Biscuits marched north to Port Chester for three nights at The Capitol Theatre over March 23-25, quite possibly their strongest run at the ‘Original Rock Palace,’ dating back to 2016.
Few bands display the consistency the Disco Biscuits have displayed as of late, going back nearly a year to their last Capitol Theatre run, which has been followed by more than a dozen original song debuts that have quickly become part of the rotation.
From the crowd, the band looks like they’re having a blast on stage, rocking out to the music they’re creating, feeding off their own creation just as the fans are, creating a live camaraderie that is rarely seen. From the stage, one can see the band is getting down while watching the fans do the same, all while creating live electronic music to an unmatched degree of quality, making it look like just another day at the office.
Typically, Thursday of a three-night Cap run has been more of a ‘‘warm up night,’ as the band gets comfortable in the room. The shows have been great, but have been overshadowed by stellar Friday and Saturday shows. This was not the case this weekend, given the way the band has been playing, as there was no warm up needed and Thursday was on par if not stronger than the next two nights.
Starting the run with a jam that evolved into an almost 20-minute “Gangster,” a “Spacebirdmatingcall” sandwiched “Cyclone” that found Jon “Barber” Gutwillig hitting next level peaks as the industrial techno beat took over. As the set reached the second half, two rarely played songs, “Trooper McCue” and “Floes” appeared, a double dose of early Biscuits, with the more recent “Lake Shore Drive” fitting in nicely in between.
A rarely played “Park Ave” made its third appearance since 2011, and second this year, opening up the second set, then dipping into an inverted “Shelby Rose” which was last performed inverted style at the Capitol Theatre in 2019. The flowing set continued with an inverted “Reactor” which found Barber taking a section for “a couple of laps” as bassist Marc Brownstein put it. The set would close with ”Evolve,” a 2021 composition that gives off a late 90s Eurodance vibe, segueing into a 20-minute set closing “Caterpillar.” With a short encore slot leftover, “Portal To An Empty Head” put a exclamation point on a night that to some was the highlight of the run, but if anything, simply foreshadowed the greatness of the next two nights that followed.

Friday night featured opener Dogs in a Pile, a New Jersey band that was making waves prior to the pandemic and who have not looked back in that time, touring across the country and building a ‘Dog Pound’ fanbase in the meantime. The full set is worth a listen, especially the final tune, “Time Stands Still,” with Ben Pinnola on saxophone.
When it comes to the Disco Biscuits, anything can be a jam vehicle, nearly everything is in play – new songs, old songs, fan favorites, rare covers – and that is what makes the band so enjoyable to see show after show, no matter if you last saw them a week ago or five years ago.
Cracking open the first set was “Shocked,” which stands to be the first song from the band’s forthcoming “Space Rock Opera,” and had fans shouting “Shocked” as if the tune was a longtime part of the repertoire. A stand alone “Digital Buddha” followed, with the pace accelerated by Barber and drummer Allen Aucoin to a furious froth, giving unparalleled energy as the song reached its peak.
Among all new debuted songs, a clear fan favorite is “Twisted in the Road,” which would proceed to sandwich three songs in between a “Twisted” 22 minute jawn, with lyrics “Let it run and let it roll” becoming a mantra for Biscuits fans in the process. “Bombs” made a return appearance at The Capitol Theatre (played in 2017 and 2019) after being brought off the shelf by fan request at a Drive-In show in May 2021. “Orch Theme,” the ever-welcome dark electronic Conspirator song arrived out of “Bombs,” bringing the rare “Rainbow Song” from the ashes of “Orch Theme,” before winding back into “Twisted in the Road” to close the set and reach the halfway point of the run.
Set 2 began with the fresh “Freeze” that ran for nearly 25 minutes and exemplified one of the best elements of the Disco Biscuits – you can easily forget what song you’re dancing to, and happily so. In the moment, it doesn’t matter what song it is when they’re jamming at this level of consistency, making song chasing secondary to enjoying these jams more than ever before. Anything is in play with improvisation opportunities found at all turns.
The middle section of “Crickets” gave way to “Another Plan of Attack” and “Space Train,” and then an inverted “Above The Waves” that clocked in at a raging 20 minutes. “One Chance To Save The World” closed the set with “King of the World” celebrating this powerful set in the encore slot.

Opening Saturday night was Eggy, who has been on the rise as of late and had recently opened for Twiddle at The Capitol Theatre in November 2022. This remarkable Connecticut band has excellent stage presence and precision jamming, with Jerry Garcia Band’s “Gomorrah” a fitting cover for the room.
The Biscuits’ first set opened up with stand alone versions of “Story of the World” and “Astronaut,” a departure from the sandwiching of other tunes inside segments of these compositions. A classic “Little Shimmy In A Conga Line” had a percussion segment that was unique and fit the jam well, and may have been exploring a shift into “O Fortuna” (a cantata by Carl Orff), from the Biscuits’ catalog of classical covers. Shortly after, “Shimmy” started to give off “Digital Buddha,” but having already played “Buddha” the night before, this meant the audio doppleganger for “Buddha” – “Tricycle” – was on the horizon.
The last two minutes of “Shimmy” made it seem as though the band would be dipping into one of their most high energy songs for a segue. Then out of left field came a short, sweet and nasty “Tempest” that provided a bridge to the full on “Tricycle,” which had the crowd singing along in unison like no other in recent memory, the four fully dialed in for this fusion of sound and bringing the audience along with them for the ride. The newer “Vibes” hit the spot out of “Tricycle” and found its way into the ending of “Svenghali” to close the set on a high mark.
The first set had so much energy and hit all the right spots, contending quickly for ‘Set of the Weekend.’ The general consensus at setbreak gave no notes, no criticisms and no hot takes other than ‘these guys are on fire.”
Sorry if that sounds like hyperbole, but the dedicated fan base is in agreement that the band is as dialed in and consistent as they’ve ever been. So when it came time for Set 2, the crowd was abuzz as the setlist was confirmed to be written by longtime Biscuits audio engineer Rich Steele, celebrating his 300th show this evening. The set unfolded as a dissection of one of the Biscuits’ earliest songs, “Basis For a Day” spread out over the 90 minute set with four of the newer ‘Space Opera’ songs woven in between, leading fans to coin the fluid set “Spaces for a Day.“
If you hadn’t heard “Basis For a Day” in a minute, you were in for a treat. The band opened up with “Basis,” segueing into “The Wormhole” before finding their way back to “Basis.” Despite only debuting nine months ago, “Who’s In Charge” has found its home in regular rotation and followed the second “Basis,” with a driving beat behind Barber’s repeated query “Who’s in charge….. of this place right here?” From there, it was back into “Basis” for round 3, followed by “The Deal,” a song so new it had only been played three times prior to this evening. Back into “Basis” and then “To Be Continued,” with a new wave/techno riff from Aron Magner, seeming to be a song towards the end of the Space Opera. By the time they went back into “Basis” for a final time, nearly 90 minutes had passed but fans didn’t notice as they were far too busy getting down.
You couldn’t find a stronger way to cap the run with a set of this nature, where knowledge of the band’s collective level of consistency in performance and songwriting was put high on a pedestal for all to see. Weaving the band’s unnamed/unreleased “Space Opera” in and out of one of their most performed songs was a master stroke and paid dividends for everyone in attendance. A fitting encore of “We Like To Party” framed the three night run, with the band and fans in unison proclaiming enthusiastically, loudly and proudly, “We like to dance, sorry if you don’t.”
Don’t sleep on the Disco Biscuits – they’re in Colorado this coming weekend for four shows, head down south for four more in May before heading to Iceland for their first international jaunt in well over a decade. Tour dates for the summer have just been announced, which find the band touring up the east coast in June for eight shows, starting in South Carolina on June 7 and closing out with two nights at Mulcahey’s in Wantagh. Here’s hoping for more details on the upcoming “Space Opera” as the year progresses.

Asbury Park, New Jersey natives Dogs In A Pile stopped in Buffalo for their latest tour on Sunday March 12. Although these guys are considered young in the jam band scene, their chemistry and talent on stage pays no mind to that.

The eclectic quintet is made up of Jimmy Law (lead guitarist/vocalist), Joe Babick (drums), Jeremy Kaplan (keyboard), Sam Lucid (bass), and Brian Murray (guitar). Babick and Law started jamming together as young kids. Later on they met the other three and formed the band in 2018. They have built their sound through instrumentation of aural mosaics as well as use of psychedelia.

Dogs In A Pile played a wide range of material on their setlist full of funk tunes and covers. They also performed songs off of their newly released album Bloom. Some of which were “Today,” “Bent Strange,” and “Fenway.”

The group played late into the night filling Buffalo Ironworks with their blend of genres and introspective soundscapes. Dogs In A Pile uses their storytelling techniques to make connective music and fun live shows. Additionally, their energy is undeniable to the crowd which left many new fans of the boys’ ever-growing Dog Pound.

Twiddle & Frends announce that they will be returning to Memorial Meltdown this Memorial Weekend in downtown Lake George at the Charles R. Wood Festival Commons on May 27 and 28.
Twiddle is a Vermont-based jam band, comprised of members Mihali Savoulidis [vocals, guitar], Ryan Dempsey [keys, organ, synth], Brook Jordan [drums], and Zdenek Gubb [bass]. They recently celebrated the release of their fifth full-length album Every Last Leaf and they will be going on an indefinite hiatus at the end of 2023. The group has repeatedly sold out some of the most legendary venues in the world, including Red Rocks Amphitheatre and Capitol Theatre. They have played at well-known festivals like Bonnaroo and Electric Forest in addition to launching and headlining their own annual extravaganza Tumble Down Festival.
This is one weekend you will not want to miss as many notable acts from across the state will be performing. On May 27, and May 28, the Memorial Meltdown will feature two sets by Twiddle, along with performances by TAUK, Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad and Annie in the Water on Saturday and Dogs in a Pile, Mihali & Friends, and One Time Weekend on Sunday.
The two-day event will also feature a variety of food and craft vendors, with gates opening each day at 1:30 p.m. and music set to begin at 2:30 p.m., running until about 11 p.m. Tickets for this all-ages event are on sale now.
