  • Big Time Rush “Can’t Get Enough Tour” stopping at SPAC, Bethel Woods and Jones Beach this Summer

Big Time Rush have announced their upcoming “Can’t Get Enough Tour” with the band set to take the stage at Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) in Saratoga Springs, Bethel Woods Center for the Arts in Bethel and Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh during July.

CAN’T GET ENOUGH TOUR big time rush

Big Time Rush became an overnight boy band sensation in November 2009 during the launching of a scripted TV show of the same name on Nickelodeon. The show highlighted the Hollywood escapades of four hockey players from Minnesota after they were chosen to form a pop band. Throughout the show’s success Carlos, Kendall, James, and Logan came to life as a band off the screen releasing three full length albums and performing worldwide. Big Time Rush concluded in July 2013 and after four years of touring as a band, the guys went their separate ways but remained close friends through the years.

The band is also being honored with a celebratory day known as Big Time Rush Day on April 4. Emily Larson, the Mayor of Duluth, Minnesota will make an official pronouncement from the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center making BTR day a national holiday. Duluth holds special significance for Big Time Rush since it is the hometown of the four band members. Duluth will also have a ceremonial street renamed as tribute to Big Time Rush.

In addition to the celebratory day and international tour, BTR announced a highly anticipated new album that will be released on June 9. The album will be Big Time Rush’s first new studio album in a decade. The guys have begun working on the album in 2022 and are thrilled to share it with their Rushers worldwide.

In attempts to bring joy to their fans during quarantine, the members of Big Time Rush gathered to send a message of love and togetherness. Following the announcement was a socially distant performance of an acoustic version of their smash hit, “Worldwide.” The band received 10+ million streams because of hysteria amongst their fans and in the media. Furthermore, four seasons of the television series were added to Netflix in March 2021. BTR ended 2021 with a release of their first single in 8 years, “Call It Like I See It.” They also performed at iHeartRadio Jingle Ball in Philadelphia and had two sold out shows in Chicago and NYC.

The sensational band kicked off 2022 with the launch of their wildly successful Forever Tour. with over 300,000 tickets across North America. They also released new music, with hit singles “Honey,” “Fall,” and “Not Giving You Up.” BTR also performed live at the Latin Kids Choice Awards, iHeart Music Festival, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and the premiere of their first pay-per-view event, “The City Is Ours.” It was a concert film that captured the band’s sold-out show at Madison Square Garden.

BTR fans can purchase tickets to “Can’t Get Enough Tour” here. Additionally, Big Time Rush will offer special sharable content and GIFs that fans can share.

  • Third Annual Over Yondr Festival Announces 2023 Lineup

The Over Yondr Festival announced its 2023 lineup, coming to Greenville in the picturesque Catskills Mountain foothills from June 16-18.

    Over Yondr Festival

The Over Yondr Festival is a three-day phone-free weekend, meaning that festival goers will secure their phones in pouches in their possession, providing a rare opportunity for people to disengage from their devices, but there will still be designated areas for attendees to use their phones. The festival was founded in 2019 by Yondr, the pioneers of phone-free performances, as a way to help people disconnect in such a hyperconnected world.

The company has zero social media accounts, and does little advertising, so people aren’t bombarded with so many notifications and advertisements, more than they already are. They regularly work with Dave Chappelle, Madonna, Jack White, Childish Gambino, Ali Wong, Kevin Hart, and more to provide these phone-free experiences. The three-day weekend features live music, games, food trucks, full bars, and hot showers in the picturesque and cozy valley town of Greenville.

The lineup provides audience members with a weekend of sonic discovery, featuring performances from both established artists and exciting up-and-coming artists. Headliners include the unique pop ensemble U.S. Girls who recently released their latest album Bless This Mess to critical acclaim, Brooklyn-based artist Madison McFerrin who blends a unique mix of R&B, jazz, and electronic music, and high-energy indie rock band Melt. Additional acts include Kate Davis who just released her latest album Fish Bowl last week, as well as Miss Grit, a rising indie-pop songwriter who released her debut record Follow The Cyborg earlier this year.

Festival passes are on sale now for the third annual Over Yondr Festival, taking place from June 16-18. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets early as only 400 total passes will be made available for this year’s exclusive festival experience. • Natalie Merchant Debuts Singles/Videos for “Tower Of Babel” & “Big Girls”

Jamestown, NY’s Natalie Merchant debuted her new single “Tower of Babel” recently, alongside a soul-infecting indie video to paired alongside. The single anticipates Merchant’s forthcoming album Keep Your Courage, set for an April 14th release. Merchant stated, “For the most part, this is an album about the human heart.”

Natalie Merchant Debuts New Single/Video “Tower Of Babel”

“Tower of Babel” is soul-inflecting, featuring horn arrangements by trombone player Steve Davis, and follows the first single and video, “Come On, Aphrodite.”

As much as I had wanted to not let events in the world intrude, I couldn’t disregard the prevailing atmosphere of fear and confusion that we have been living in as a result of the pandemic, climate crisis, economic instability, insane politics, violent insurrection and the shocking fallout from the conservative-stacked reactionary Supreme Court.

    Natalie Merchant

Keep Your Courage is the Natalie’s ninth solo studio album, and the latest new material since 2014’s self-titled record. In the words of Uncut, “‘Keep Your Courage,’ almost a decade in the making, finds Merchant as witty and welcoming as always, turning her gaze to what helps us endure life’s ups and downs.”

The eclectic album features contributions from Celtic folk group Lúnasa, Syrian virtuoso clarinetist Kinan Azmeh and jazz trombonist Steve Davis. There are lush orchestrations by seven composers throughout, including: Gabriel Kahane, Stephen Barber, Colin Jacobsen and Megan Gould. The new record is comprised of nine original songs by Merchant as well as an interpretation of “Hunting the Wren” by Ian Lynch of the Irish band Lankum.

In celebration of the new music, Merchant will embark upon an extensive tour this spring, going into the fall of 2023.

  • Amayo Announces Spring Tour, City Winery and Colony Woodstock Shows

Amayo, former frontman of Antibalas for 23 years, will embark on a spring tour and perform seven shows across the country in April, with two shows in New York, at City Winery on May 8 and Colony Woodstock on May 13. Amayo is credited with bringing Afrobeat to a global audience, leading it to become a genre of itself.

    amayo tour

The Grammy-Nominated Antibalas album, Fu Chronicles, in the category of Best Global Music Albany, was his vision, from concept to compositions and illustrations. The album became the launchpad for Amayo’s solo career, where Kung Fu meets Afrobeat.

A unique blend of styles creates a magical landscape for Chinese & African rhythms, where Amayo sings traditional Yoruba & Edo lyrics and plays piano, electric keyboard, organ, and the Gbedu Spirit Drum. Joining Amayo is his band, featuring chekere, guitar, bass, flute, violin, drums, percussion and horns.

The band carries the spirit of Kung Fu masters and philosophers of Asia, freedom fighters, the royal warriors of Edo & Ife Kingdoms, and Fela Kuti.

Amayo’s songs guide people through Kung Fu movements and stories of the Nigerian Edo & Ife Kingdoms. As an anointed Orisha “Awo” Amayo sings traditional Nigerian spirituals and stories that have been passed down in a sacred lineage.

Additionally, Amayo has been a senior master (Sifu) of the Jow Ga Kung Fu School of martial arts since 1982 and performs traditional Chinese Lion Dance as a salutation ritual to begin his stage performances to bring good fortune to the audience.

  • Upstate Historic Performing Arts Centers Form Alive Downtowns!

13 downtown historic performing arts centers from Jamestown to Poughkeepsie have come together to form Alive Downtowns! The coalition, having met virtually since the start of the pandemic, is seeking $20 million in operating support from the state.

    Bardavon, photo by Tim Lee.

Alive Downtowns! main goal is to encourage the lawmakers of New York to think of historic theatres in the same way they do aquariums and zoos, which are shown to have a significant public benefit. It is an affiliate corporation to the Upstate Theater Coalition for a Fairgame, established eight years ago in response to the creation of casinos in the eastern and southern tiers of the state.

Ulster Performing Arts Center, photo by Em Walis.

The historic theatres of Upstate New York are essential to each city’s urban education opportunities, economic viability, and continuing attractiveness. John Parkhurst, Chief Operating Officer of the Rochester Broadway Theatre League commented, “The COVID-19 shutdown of nearly two years has impacted us greatly as an industry. We are coming back, all of us, but, frankly without this coalition it would have been much harder.” The coalition is helping these places become recognized, and be bettered.

Members of the coalition include Bardavon 1896 Opera House (Poughkeepsie), Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, Clemens Center (Elmira), Palace Performing Arts Center (Albany), Proctors Collaborative (Schenectady, Albany, Saratoga), Forum Theatre (Binghamton), The Reg Lenna Center for the Arts (Jamestown), Rochester Broadway Theatre League’s Auditorium Theatre (Rochester), Shea’s Performing Arts Center (Buffalo), The Smith Center for the Arts (Geneva), Stanley Theatre (Utica), State Theatre of Ithaca, Syracuse’s Landmark Theatre, Troy Savings Bank Music Hall and Ulster Performing Arts Center (Kingston).

These facilities combined have an average age of nearly 100 years and are keystones to the downtown areas of the cities they are in. They serve over 5 million people annually including thousands of students. Their economic impacts for upstates major downtowns exceed $350 million and their aggregate budgets exceed $100 million.

The Smith Center for the Arts, photo by Joe Booth.

In a meeting with local legislators and the Governor’s office, the response has been very supportive. The coalition is grateful for that response and hopes to reach all state elected officials to assure an annual appropriation that will allow its members to continue to be part of growing upstate downtowns guaranteeing accessibility for all citizens for years to come.

    The Stanley Theatre.

Chris Silva, long-time Executive Director of the Bardavon in Poughkeepsie added, “This group of performing arts centers are economic, educational, and cultural engines in Upstate. We are hoping the state can make a modest investment in us that will pay huge dividends.” Upon meeting with local legislators and the Governor’s office, the response has been very supportive for the coalition’s efforts.

  • Sam Kogon Shares Haunting “All I Wanna Do”

Hudson Valley’s Sam Kogon has just shared a hauntingly beautiful music video for his track “All I Wanna Do,” directed by G.W. Duncanson. Kogon said he was inspired to write the song after moving into his Westchester Apartment in a 1920’s era building, soon realizing that he was not alone yet found comfort in his uninvited guests.

The Hudson Valley is home to lots of tales of creepy crawlies and wandering spirits. Hometown singer/songwriter Sam Kogon grew up listening to them all and has brought that ghostly history alive in his latest music video.

“Intertwining a retro charm with a modern perspective, Sam Kogon has mastered the art of fusing something you already love with something you’ll love even more, pushing his psychedelic influences into fresh new landscapes anyone can enjoy.”

     TREMG

Thus, “All I Wanna Do” tells the story of an impossible love story between a mortal and a house spirit. The classic love story of unrequited love takes on an unusual twist with Kogon’s smooth vocal styling and catchy melodies.

Sam Kogon Releases Hauntingly Beautiful Video "All I Wanna Do"

Filmed at several undisclosed location in Yonkers in Westchester County, Kogon enlisted a talented troop of creative technical and performance artists to produce the alluring cinematic offering that utilizes the crumbling remains of an historic Hudson River Estate as a backdrop.

Sam Kogon Releases Hauntingly Beautiful Video "All I Wanna Do"

In the video, Kogon stars as a Phantom character, singing in an old-fashioned living room while the action takes place elsewhere. Spirits of child brides, beautiful witch temptresses (one of which is played by Violet Hetson aka Powerviolets), a trapper played by Danny Christmas, and even a frisky bear tell the story of an impossible romance between the two realms.

Sam Kogon Releases Hauntingly Beautiful Video "All I Wanna Do"

Fun fact: the aforementioned bear costumed character is the same one that appeared in numerous episodes of the David Letterman Show. Hwtson made the witch dress herself, and all other fashions used in the shoot come from Beyond Costumes, also located in Yonkers.

You may also remember Kogon’s last video from 2022 for his international hit “Barbed Wire,” filmed in Kingston, where his family hails from. That storyline included scenes filmed in Sam’s Swap Shop, his family’s business for over one hundred years, before it fell victim to gentrification and high rents. Both “Barbed Wire” and “All I Wanna Do” made their appearance in his 2022 self-titled 4-track EP.

Sam Kogon describes his new approach as that of an “Upstate country rockabilly crooner,” a sound he had once put off while playing in Brooklyn’s psychedelic scene. Kogon lived and played in New York for several years, but nowadays lives in Westchester and spends more time in LA.

  • Second Annual Follow The Arrow Festival at Arrowood Farms Lineup Announced

The second annual edition of the Hudson Valley Follow The Arrow festival presented by Marco Benevento at Arrowood Farms in Accord lineup has been announced for June 17.

    Follow The Arrow Festival

Follow The Arrow Festival was created by Marco Benevento along with his record label Royal Potato Family and Impact Concerts in 2022. The festival featured performances by Antibalas, The Slip, and Mikaela Davis, among others. It is centered around the importance of self-expression and maintaining one’s values, all while listening to great music and enjoying a sense of joy and positivity.

Woodstock-based artist Benevento has toured the world for his eight studio albums, amassing a devoted fanbase, while drawing praise from tastemakers far and wide. The Los Angeles Times said, “it’s safe to say that no one sees the keyboard quite like Marco Benevento’s genre-blind mashup of indie rock, jazz, and skewed improvisation.” His songwriting is infectious and earthy, yet at the same time is pumped full of dance-rock energy. On his latest album Benevento, he dives deep down a psych funk rabbit hole, reimagining the negative times we are living in with optimistic groove tracks like “At The End Or The Beginning,” “Winter Rose” and “Do You Want Some Magic?”

We’re so excited to invite everyone back to Follow The Arrow this summer. As anyone who attended last year will tell you, it was a magical day. Everyone partied and had an amazing experience, but it was also family friendly vibes where you could bring your kiddos and relax because they were having as much fun as everyone else. This year’s line-up includes some of my all-time favorite musicians and we’ll be revealing a few exciting additional artists and plans for the day in the coming weeks. We’re still feeling it from last year, so you know we’re only gonna build on it and have ourselves an absolute blast.

    Marco Benevento

This year’s festival features Marco Benevento and his band as well as indie rock groups Rubblebucket, The Barr Brothers, and Scott Metzger, with a second round of artists and special guests to be announced in early April. Rubblebucket is a spunky art-pop and indie-rock band from Brooklyn, featuring members Kalmia Traver and Alex Toth. Their performances are high-energy, with an engaged crowd that sings every note, grooving back and forth to their music. The duo’s sixth record Earth Worship explores love songs for and from the natural world, featuring infectious melodic complexity, hooky vocals, and shimmering beats.

The Barr Brothers is an indie folk band founded in Montreal in 2006, consisting of brothers Andrew and Brad Barr, as well as bassist Morgan Moore, pedal steel guitarist Brett Lanier, and harpist Eveline Gregoire-Rousseau. Scott Metzger has performed extensively all over the United States, Europe, Japan, and Australia and has recorded projects of all styles. He is a full-time member of the critically acclaimed, increasingly popular Joe Russo’s Almost Dead.

The second round of artists includes heavy groove trio LaMP featuring guitarist Scott Metzger with keyboardist Ray Paczkowski and drummer Russ Lawton who are best known for their work with the Trey Anastasio Band, Beacon, NY-based indie folk band Upstate, and jam rock meets indie pop dynamo Karina Rykman and her band. In addition, Marco Benevento and friends will cap the night off with Let’s Dance: A Tribute To David Bowie, with special guests Duane Betts, Stuart Bogie, Mikaela Davis, and Sister Sparrow.

Tickets go on sale on March 24 at 10 a.m., including an allotment of discounted early bird tickets. For more information about Follow The Arrow Festival and to purchase tickets, visit here.
