  • The Offspring Announce New Tour With Sum 41 And Simple Plan With Darien Lake And Jones Beach Dates

The Offspring have announced their newest 2023 tour, Let The Bad Times Roll Tour, with special guests Sum 41 and Simple Plan.

    The offspring

The 24-city tour kicks off on August 1 in Auburn, WA, and includes stops at Darien Lake and Jones Beach.

One of the best things about being on tour is traveling the world playing to great audiences, and it’s even better when you can do it with your friends – we had sold out International tours with Simple Plan and Sum 41, and we’re excited that they’ll be joining us this Summer in America. It’s going to be great!

    Dexter Holland of The Offspring

Frequently regarded as one of the best rock bands of all time, The Offspring have garnered a reputation for their unmistakable sound and social comment. The multi-platinum band first achieved worldwide success in the 90’s with the release of their album Smash, which sold over 11 million copies. Following Smash, they continued to release hit after hit, popularizing rock at a mainstream level. The group is also currently working on new music.

Throughout their career, they’ve sold over a staggering 40 million albums, and toured arenas, and built a global fan base. Let the Bad Times Roll marks the band’s tenth studio album and third album produced by the legendary Bob Rock. True to the irreverence at the core of their rock music, the band and lyricist Dexter Holland took a view to today’s cultural moments and didn’t shy away from creating topical material in this album. The album is sure to delight old and new fans.

Touring With Friends – Simple Plan & Sum 41

From their new millennium rise to MTV superstardom through pop-punk’s modern resurgence, Simple Plan have been an indelible part of pop culture since forming in Montreal in 1999. They’ve sold 10 million albums worldwide, won multiple Juno Awards, performed at the 2010 Winter Olympics – and, most recently, launched the omnipresent #ImJustAKid TikTok challenge that’s spawned more than 3.4 million videos, including clips from Hilary Duff, Ed Sheeran, Usher and Venus and Serena Williams. But most importantly, they’ve never lost connection with what really matters: their audience.

“We couldn’t be more excited to get back on tour all across the US with our friends The Offspring and Sum 41! We had such a blast touring with both of them last year that we just had to do it again and put together what we feel will be one of the most awesome tours of the summer. There’s nothing like going to see a show outside on a perfect summer night, and we hope our fans will join us and enjoy this really special show. See you there!” said Chuck Comeau of Simple Plan.

Looking back at the band’s storied 27-year career with over 15 million records sold worldwide, multiple Billboard Charting releases, a Grammy Award nomination, 2 Juno Awards (7 nominations), a Kerrang! Award in 2002, and multiple Alternative Press Music Awards, Sum 41 is still at the top of their game. Vocalist Deryck Whibley shas hared that the band’s new double album, titled Heaven and Hell, is shaping up to be the most ambitious of their career – half of the album brings Sum 41 back to their pop punk roots, Heaven, and half of the album is strictly metal, Hell.

“We’re so excited to be back touring the States with The Offspring and Simple Plan this summer!” said Deryck Whibley of Sum 41. “There’s nothing better than hitting the road with your friends, and we can’t wait to bring the tour to you – see you soon!”

  • Wabanaki Musician Mali Obomsawin Announces Three NY Shows Supporting Debut Album “Sweet Tooth”

Wabanaki bassist, composer, and songwriter Mali Obomsawin has announced three shows across New York State, celebrating their newest album, Sweet Tooth.

On March 26th Mali Obomsawin will be playing Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs, followed by a performance at National Jazz Museum in Harlem, as part of the Jazz and Social Justice Event on March 28th, ending with a performance at Public Records on March 29th.

    Wabanaki Mali Obomsawin

Sweet Tooth, the debut album from Obomsawin, highlights centuries of clever adaptation and resistance that have fueled the art and culture of Wabanaki people. Written as a compositional suite, the album blends Wabanaki stories and songs passed down in Obomsawin’s own family with tunes addressing contemporary Indigenous life, colonization, continuity, love and rage. It’s at once intimately personal, featuring field recordings of relatives at Odanak First Nation, but also conveys a larger story of the Wabanaki people, stretching across the domain of their confederacy from Eastern Canada to Southern New England.

Obomsawin’s show at the National Jazz Museum in Harlem will be followed by an in-depth conversation with series host Larry Blumenfeld, NJMH Executive Director and Co-chief Marten Band/Ramapo Munsee Lenape Nation Tracy Hyter-Suffern, and other panelists about connections between jazz and Indigenous cultures, and the issues surrounding Indigenous resistance movements.

In three movements, Obomsawin’s powerful compositions honor the Indigenous ability to shape great art from the harshest fires of colonialism. The compositions reveal threads that bind together blues, jazz, hymns, folk songs, and Native cultures, and foreground the breadth and continuity of Indigenous contributions to these genres. “Telling Indigenous stories through the language of jazz is not a new phenomenon,” Obomsawin explains. “My people have had to innovate endlessly to get our stories heard – learning to express ourselves in French, English, Abenaki… but sometimes words fail us, and we must use sound”.

Tickets are availible now at Mali’s website.

  • Atmosphere US Tour to Stop at Jones Beach

Hip-hop duo Atmosphere has announced a 2023 North American tour that is scheduled to run throughout the summer, with a stop at Jones Beach. Atmosphere is scheduled to stop at Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theatre in Wantagh on Aug. 26. The tour, dubbed Summertime 2023, starts in July and runs until the beginning of September.

    atmosphere jones beach
    Atmosphere members Slug and Ant

Atmosphere will be joined on their tour by Slightly Stoopid, Sublime with Rome, and The Movement. Summertime 2023 is in support of the duo’s latest album, So Many Other Realities Exist Simultaneously, out on May 5 through Rhymesayers Entertainment.

Rapper Slug and DJ/producer Ant are the voices of Atmosphere, originating in Minneapolis. Their career as a duo spans more than 25 years, with their debut studio album, Overcast! being released in 1997. In more than a decade since the release of their debut album, Atmosphere has released over two dozen studio albums, EPs, and collaborative side projects. Their success can be attributed to the honesty, humility, and vulnerability, of their music. In the early 2000s, Slug inadvertently coined the phrase “emo rap” in an interview, and publications now run with that tag when describing the band and similar groups.

Atmosphere’s latest work can arguably be called some of their most personal material to date. The opening track “Okay” is seemingly focused on comforting their listeners, a departure from their previous work. As such, So Many Other Realities marks one of the duo’s most innovative albums to date. While their previous work has focused on the parts of life that carry the most meaning, their new album highlights the fear and paranoia of a pandemic-ridden society. However, the darkness of the album is undercut with songs like “Still Life” which offers a more hopeful outlook.

Tickets for Atmosphere’s summer 2023 are now available. Pre-order / pre-save So Many Other Realities Exist Simultaneously here.

Listen to the “Okay” by Atmosphere official music video on YouTube.

  • Catch Brooklyn Indie Rockers Blanket Approval at Berlin Under A on March 25

Blanket Approval will throw a bit of a shebang this weekend at Berlin (Under A) in the heart of the East Village. They’ll be joined by Strange Neighbors and Golden Alphabet, and will have a one-of-a-kind show poster and t-shirt auction benefiting the Achilles International Queens Chapter.

Blanket Approval, Golden Alphabet and Strange Neighbors will throw a shebang this weekend at Berlin (Under A) in the East Village.

Blanket Approval is a groovy indie pop rock band from New York City. Born out of the ashes of the pandemic, singer/guitarist Jack Matteucci moved to Brooklyn in August of 2021 after hopping around the country for 8 months, searching for a music scene he wanted to grow with. He soon met drummer Joey Hadden through mutual friends and they founded the band. While the two were gigging together, Jack met bassist Max Mena at a DIY punk show in Queens and thankfully found guitarist/keyboardist Rahul Chakraborty online.

With the new recruits, Blanket Approval began rehearsing and recording in January 2022, before making their live debut at Union Pool in Brooklyn that spring. Since then, the band has played throughout NYC, most recently at the acclaimed Mercury Lounge in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. The band has built an impressive following thanks to strong social media promo, has garnered nearly 200,000 streams on Spotify in less than 8 months, and a feature in Spotify’s Fresh Finds Indie. 2023 will see a string of new releases, including a summer EP, as well as tour dates throughout the East Coast.

Strange Neighbors first unleashed their jangly power pop onto the New York scene in 2018. Founded by vocalist Aidan and drummer Tracey, they soon brought guitarist Zach into the mix through a Facebook ad. It remains one of the three all-time positive outcomes of social media.

After a few early singles and some lineup changes, the band brought along bassist Dana to record their debut album How to Human in early 2019. Taking influence from the power pop and pop punk of the band’s youth, the album’s eight songs are characterized by sparkling guitars, intricate bass lines, rock solid beats and impassioned vocals, a mix of the old and new.

The band followed up with the Illuminasti EP in 2020 and marked their live comeback as a live act with the single “Mystic Piers” in July of 2021. They have continued recording, writing and performing into 2023 with the release of the “Party of None” EP.

Since their formation, Strange Neighbors have played at popular New York City haunts like Piano’s, The Bitter End, Bowery Electric, Cobra Club, Arlene’s Grocery, Mercury Lounge, Knitting Factory, Sultan Room, Rubulad, and more.

Originally formed in the cactus country of Tucson, Arizona, in 2003, Golden Alphabet found their final form in a place that couldn’t be more different than Southern Arizona: Brooklyn. Along the road there have been many members and iterations from solo project, to large form collective, to the current 5-piece (since 2014). All the shapes Golden Alphabet have taken have left their mark and played their part in what the group is in this moment.

Their desert roots are not hard to pinpoint. With the country western radio station blasting from his father’s workshop, primary writer and singer Tommy Cormier couldn’t escape the simple structures and emotive delivery of the music he grew up with. Though their music might not be technically categorized as country or folk, Golden Alphabet delivers an aesthetic of contemporary indie-psych, sometimes baroque pop, with a varnish of desert dust; from melodic whispers to heavy riffs and soaring choruses, inspiration takes many forms in their music.

Golden Alphabet is Tommy Cormier, Kendra Kovarik, Nate Jasensky, Derek Smith, and Timmy Minker. Removable Baby Jesus was recorded, produced, and mixed entirely by the band at Greenpoint Recording Collective, where Cormier and Jasensky are producers for local musicians and bands.

Berlin (Under A) is located at Avenue A & 2nd Street in Alphabet City. Tickets are $10 advance, $15 Day of Show.
