Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Mary Gauthier has accomplished a lot over her past 25-year career. Celebrating her milestones and her new record Dark Enough to See the Stars, she is bringing ‘An Evening with Mary Gauthier: A Career Retrospective Show’ to the Edwards Opera House on Sept. 16.

Her eleventh album, Dark Enough To See The Stars, follows her celebrated debut book, Saved by a Song: The Art and Healing Power of Songwriting, and Rifles & Rosary Beads, her 2018 album that earned a Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album and an Album of the Year nomination from the Americana Music Association. The record follows Gauthier as she navigates the world of dealing with trauma after losing people close to her, reflecting both love and loss over ten songs.
Mary Gauthier’s early work, which began at 35, reflected her newfound sobriety and delved into events from a troubled life, which persisted after she became a renowned chef in Boston. Over the course of her discography, she has never shied away from difficult topics such as self-reflection and exploration, telling her life story to eager ears. She has earned deep respect and admiration for her thoughtful and introspective songwriting and storytelling amongst fans and fellow artists.

Blake Shelton’s cover of “I Drink” and Jimmy Buffet’s take on “Wheel Inside the Wheel” are just a few examples of the artists who have recorded her songs. She has multiple lifetimes worth of experiences that inform her music and her deep understanding of human emotions. Although recovery, healing, and self-acceptance are never-ending, Gauthier has gone from being the wounded to being the healer, using her music to help others through their own hard times.
She has proven to be one of the most sincere and poignant voices in music. In recent years, she has been featured in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Associated Press, NPR Music, Rolling Stone Country, CBS This Morning, Fresh Air with Terry Gross, and so much more. The Americana Music Association UK named her International Artist of the Year in 2019.
Tickets for ‘An Evening with Mary Gauthier: A Career Retrospective Show’ at the Edwards Opera House are on sale now.

In a historic revival of Grateful Dead music culture, CEG Presents and Keeping the Dead Alive, are thrilled to announce the launch of weekly Grateful Dead night “Dead Country Tuesdays.”
This event marks the return of a weekly Dead Night to Manhattan after a hiatus of over two decades. The festivities are set to kick off Tuesday, Sept. 12 at Hill Country Live on 26th Street east of 6th Avenue in Manhattan.
The inaugural evening will feature a high-energy performance by the hot, up-and-coming Grateful Dead tribute band, Strangers Stopping Strangers out of Jersey City. Fans can expect a mix of classic Dead tunes and energetic interpretations from the group, whose commitment to capturing the lively essence of the Grateful Dead has garnered them a cult following.
Dayna Bauman, co-creator of “Dead Country Tuesdays,” expressed, “Memento Mori is remembering that things pass. The Dead taught us that when they do if we show up together, we can transmute them once again into something beautiful. That’s our hope here, to honor this legacy while supporting the birth of the next generation of music.”
Bauman founded Keeping the Dead Alive to introduce the musicians who have been inspired by the Grateful Dead, particularly the next generation of original musicians who are influenced by the group. She has worked tirelessly to preserve and promote the music and ethos of the Grateful Dead. “Dead Country Tuesdays” is a testament to her unwavering commitment to keeping the spirit of the Dead alive.
Tickets for “Dead Country Tuesdays” can be purchased online here.

The Brooklyn Bowl has announced its 12th annual Bowl Hashanah, set for Saturday, Sept. 16, featuring morning services and a number of well-known musicians.
Presented by The Friday Night Jam & FANS.live, the event will kick off at 10:30 AM with Rosh Hashanah morning services led by Rabbi Daniel Brenner with musical director Jeremiah Lockwood, Antibalas’ Jordan McLean (who just wrapped a performance at Newport Jazz Festival), Antibalas’ Timothy Allen, drummer John Bollinger, saxophonist Stuart Bogie and Yula Berri on vocals and bass.
In addition, Taper’s Choice/Darkside member Dave Harrington, Taper’s Choice/Real Estate member Alex Bleeker, Dr. Dog member, and Kevin Morby collaborators Erick Slick and Will Epstein will all make guest appearances. Afro-beat group Armo will also perform a spiritual set. Internationally based teacher Aliza Rivka will lead a guided meditation at each event. After services at 12:30 PM, a lunch will be provided by Blue Ribbon with a ticket purchase.
All proceeds will support the non-profit organization Shalom Y’all Jams, which works to organize holiday services at non-traditional locations.
We have said for years that Brooklyn Bowl is our sanctuary, clubhouse, church and synagogue, so it only makes sense that it has grown into the spiritual home for our musically inclined Rosh Hashanah services over the years. Especially at a time when so many of us have been apart from our friends and family due to the pandemic, we hope that our suite of traditional-but-open-minded-and-inclusive services will allow us to connect with each other as we ‘begin again’ at the start of this new year.
Relix’s Editor-in-Chief Mike Greenhaus
The Brooklyn Bowl was ranked the #1 busiest club in NYC and #7 busiest club in the world in 2017 by Pollstar. Featuring groundbreaking integration of premiere music, 16 lanes of bowling, a bar featuring locally crafted beers, and food by the acclaimed Blue Ribbon restaurant group, the venue, aka “rock and roll heaven” (Village Voice) boasts a sound system and amenities that “no other local rock club can offer” (The New York Times). Environmentally sustainable, the venue is the first L.E.E.D.-certified bowling alley in the world and serves paper straws.
The Friday Night Jam & FANS.live have a number of other spiritually and musically inclined High Holiday Services which can be streamed live here. Each service will be led by Rabbi Daniel Brenner and musical director Jeremiah Lockwood, featuring Antibalas’ Jordan McLean, Yuli Beeri, saxophonist Stuart Bogie, and a full live band. Patti Smith Group’s Lenny Kaye, The Lonesome Prairie Dogs’ Heidi Lieb, and drummer Amir Ziv will also perform live at the Relix Studio during the streams.
Livestream Schedule
Friday, SEPT 15 @ 7:30 PM EST from The Relix Studio

Sunday, Sept 24 @ 7:30 PM from The Relix Studio (stream live via Fans.live)
Monday, Sept 25 @ 10 AM from The Relix Studio (stream live via Fans.live)
As part of the event’s anniversary celebration, during the Sunday, Sept. 25 service, Lockwood’s The Sway Machinery will present Hidden Melodies Revealed 15 at Brooklyn Bowl. This new iteration of the concert-ritual will celebrate the widening circles of cantorial revival, and Yiddish experimental expressive culture that have emerged in the last decade. Offering a counterpoint to The Sway Machinery’s futurist sound, a second stage will be set up in the middle of the venue that will host a “radical traditionalist” band performing new arrangements of Jewish ritual music on strings.

Legendary singer-songwriter Bob Dylan has announced that he and His Band will be making a pair of appearances in New York State this fall, with a show in Rochester on October 24 at Auditorium Theatre, and at historic Proctor’s Theatre in Schenectady on October 30. The dates are part of the musicians’ “Rough and Rowdy Ways” tour.
Dylan has added more dates in November to his tour calendar, with shows on November 7-8 at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, and November 14-15 at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn.
Dylan has been an iconic figure in American music for well over five decades. Born and raised in Minnesota, it was in Greenwich Village where the artists’ career started to blossom. Boasting an unparalleled writing style, Dylan rose to prominence for his ability to blend elements of folk and rock. Within just a three year span Dylan released the ever-influential albums Bringing It All Back Home, Highway 61 Revisited, and Blonde on Blonde.
Widely recognized for crafting some of the most poignant and significant protest songs, Dylan is known for his social and political beliefs. The singers’ tracks became a symbolic part of the 1960s, touching on issues like segregation, authority, and societal norms. In 2016 Dylan was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for his contributions to American poetry and music. Dylan has sold over 100 million records, won 10 Grammy Awards, and has been inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Proctor’s Theatre was built in 1926 and hosts Broadway shows, cutting-edge film festivals, and music performances. The Arts Center & Theatre of Schenectady (ACT) stepped in to revitalize the theatre when the building faced destruction in the 70s. Since then, Proctor’s has become an integral part of the Capital Region’s arts scene. Past performers include Mariah Carey, Brittany Spears, Duke Ellington, and even comedian George Burns.

On the heels of a performance on the Rooftop at Pier 17, Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann will bring a mob of musicians, Billy and the Kids to the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester this October.
The pair of shows will take place on October 20 and 21, the only dates on the calendar for this talented group of musicians.
The announcement arrived in a late-Thursday tweet from Billy and the Kids’ official account:
So… we went pier to pier. Up next, we’re thinking of maybe pulling into a port and kicking up our feet for two nights…. But what port?
Then on Friday, the announcement was official as Bill Kreutzmann said “I had so much fun going ‘Pier to Pier’ with the Kids last month, but now it’s time to pull into port – Port Chester, NY, that is – and drop anchor for two nights at Peter Shapiro’s Deadhead Palace.”
Kreutzmann added “So I’m inviting all of you to my East Coast ‘Daze of the Dead’ parties. Please dress in costume (if the spirit moves). Billy and The Kids will be joined for both of these shows by some very special guests – I’ll keep you guessing for now, but I’m just over the moon about them.”
Later that afternoon, it was revealed that the Capitol Theatre run will include frequent lineup contributors Tom Hamilton, Aron Magner, Reed Mathis, and unnamed guests, although as Jambands.com points out, most recently on the road, Kreutzmann invited Kanika Moore and Daniel Donato to join as special guests.
Kreutzmann ended his message with a hint at future shows out west, saying “When we dance, we are all together, we are all one, and we are all very much alive. This ‘Daze of the Dead’ trick is for New York but don’t you worry California – stay tuned for a special treat.”
Presale for Billy & The Kids at the Capitol Theatre is now underway.
School is back in session, the end of summer is counting down in days, and live music in Rochester is retreating into indoor spaces as September begins. But darker, cooler nights can lead to later, hotter shows. If you want to find yourself where the music is hottest find yourself at these ones.
Clem Snide once was a band, but now it is just a man, Eef Barzelay. His unique and gorgeous voice and unique and gorgeous songwriting remain however and this will be a unique and gorgeous, and intimate, evening at the old saloon on Liberty Poll Way.
Tickets are $15/$20dos and the show gets going at 7:30pm.
Hot Tuna is no stranger to rock and folk fans everywhere. As with all of our favorite musicians from back in the day, they aren’t getting any younger. So this will be your last chance to catch Electric Hot Tuna as they are hanging it up after this tour. Acoustic Hot Tuna will live on though. You’ll miss ’em when they’re gone so don’t miss ’em now.
Tickets range from $43.50 to $95.50 and the show will start at 8pm.
Another hot one up on the ridge at the Kodak Center. Warren Haynes returns with Gov’t Mule with a new album in tow and a new bassist, Kevin Scott, who has played with Jimmy Herring, Wayne Krantz and others, to help them thunder through their signature blues jam rock. Sounds like fun!
Tickets range from $35.50 to $85.50 and the show starts at 8pm.
Let’s keep this party rockin’! Another big rock show coming to town this month, Drive-By Truckers bringing their politically-charged Southern rock stylings to Water Street. It’ll be a raucous feel good by feeling bad affair. The night of solid songwriting will be punched up with alt-country band American Aquarium opening the show.
Round out the month with some local music courtesy of rising talents, Public Water Supply. This Americana Rock quintet has been making the rounds and turning heads over the past year. Time to go check em out and catch the buzz!
Tickets are $10 at the door and show starts at 8:30pm.
