LCD Soundsystem will once again hold a residency (of sorts) this holiday season in New York City, but instead of sticking to just one venue, the group will hit three separate venues across three boroughs on a Tri Boro Tour.
The Tri Boro tour will find LCD Soundsystem first returning to the familiar haunts of Brooklyn Steel over the course of November 16-19. Then, heading into Manhattan, the group will find themselves at Terminal 5 from November 28 through December 1, surely making excellent use of the room’s disco ball during each show.
Then the group will perform December 7-10 at the Knockdown Center in Queens to close out the Tri Boro Tour. As for shows in the Bronx and Staten Island, fans will have to be patient or make the trek to any of the other 12 shows lined up.

Bop Shop Records, an independently-owned record store in Rochester, has announced their upcoming lineup of shows for this fall. The run starts with a trio of jazz legends, Joseph Daley’s Tuba Trio, consisting of Warren Smith, Scott Robinson, and Joseph Daley.
Bop Shop Records opened in the Cobbs Hill neighborhood of Rochester in 1982 with owner Tom Kohn, who spent the 70s working for MXR and Rounder Records, where he collected music from all kinds of genres. The venue hosts jazz, folk, and blues artists at the store, and boasts a collection of over 200,000 records available.
This fall’s lineup will feature Joseph Daley’s Tuba Trio, Preston Reed, Charlie Parr, and Brooklyn’s own Ember Trio. Ember is a collaborative music group that is based in exploration, improvisation, and creativity. The jazz group includes Caleb Wheeler Curtis on alto saxophone, Noah Garabedian on bass, and Vinnie Sperrazza on drums. The group will make their stop at Bop Shop Records on December 16.
Bop Shop Records is excited to welcome Joseph Daley’s Tuba Trio on October 3. The group explores improvisational concepts of Sam Rivers, the famed jazz composer and multi-instrumentalist who accompanied the likes of Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis. Daley dedicated his newest record, The Tuba Trio Chronicles, to the memory of Rivers, his good friend and mentor.

The Wildwoods, a folk-americana trio from Nebraska, have announced an upcoming show at Conkling Hall in Rensselaerville, NY. The group’s newest full length record, Foxfield Saint John, released in February 2023, cultivates a unique and captivating sound to their musicianship.
The Wildwoods is Noah Gose (guitar), Chloe Gose (violin), and Andrew Vaggalis (bass). Hailing from Lincoln, Nebraska, and draw inspiration from artistss such as The Decemberists, Peter, Paul, & Mary, Joni Mitchell, and Gregory Alan Isakov. The group was nominated by the Omaha Arts and Entertainment Awards for Top Americana/Folk Artist in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021, and 2022, and named as the Lincoln Journal Star’s “Best Band” award in 2022.
The band released their debut album, Sweet Nostalgia, as well as an EP, Birdie & Goose, in 2017, and quickly established a niche in their local music scene. The group’s newest record, Foxfield Saint John, was followed by “Footprints on the Floor,” a new track released in July.

MasterVoices will open its 2023-24 season this November at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater, with three performances of The Frogs.
MasterVoices (formerly The Collegiate Chorale) was founded in 1941 by legendary American choral conductor Robert Shaw. Under the artistic direction of Tony Award winner Ted Sperling since 2013, the group is known for its versatility and a repertoire that ranges from choral masterpieces and operas in concert to operettas and musical theater. Season concerts feature a volunteer chorus of 100+ members from all walks of life alongside a diverse roster of world-class soloists from across the musical spectrum, including Julia Bullock, Dove Cameron, Anthony Roth Costanzo, Renée Fleming, John Holiday, Jennifer Holliday, Norm Lewis, Victoria Clark, and Kelli O’Hara.
Under Sperling’s direction the group has created cross–disciplinary collaborations with such diverse creative minds as legendary lyricist Sheldon Harnick, Vogue Editor-at-Large Hamish Bowles, fashion designer Zac Posen, Silk Road visual artist Kevork Mourad, illustrator Manik Choksi, stage designer Doug Fitch, and choreographers Doug Varone and Andrew Palermo. Roger Rees was the group’s Artistic Associate from 2003–2015, and in 2021 the group received a New York Emmy Award nomination and a Drama League Award nomination for its multi-genre digital concert production of Adam Guettel’s Myths and Hymns.
Known for its presentation of lesser-known artistic treasures such as Scott Joplin’s Treemonisha, and Tchaikovsky’s Maid of Orleans, the group has received recent accolades for productions of rarely-heard works such as last season’s New York City premiere of Sheldon Harnick’s full English translation of Bizet’s Carmen, Lady in the Dark by Kurt Weill and Ira Gershwin, Victor Herbert’s Babes in Toyland, the Gershwins’ Let ‘Em Eat Cake, Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents’s Anyone Can Whistle, and Gilbert and Sullivan’s Iolanthe. They also commission and premiere new works; recent examples include choral works by Ricky Ian Gordon, Marisa Michelson, Tariq Al-Sabir, and Randall Eng.
As one of the country’s first interracial and interfaith choruses, MasterVoices (as The Collegiate Chorale) performed at the opening of the United Nations and has sung and recorded under the batons of esteemed conductors including Serge Koussevitzky, Arturo Toscanini, and Leonard Bernstein, among others. It has been engaged by top-tier orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic and the Israel Philharmonic, and has appeared at the Verbier and Salzburg Festivals.
MasterVoices opens its 2023-24 season on November 3 and 4 at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater, with three performances of a concert staging of Stephen Sondheim and Burt Shevelove’s The Frogs, as adapted by Nathan Lane. Ted Sperling, celebrating his tenth season as MasterVoices’ Artistic Director, directs and conducts the 120–member MasterVoices chorus, an 18-piece orchestra, and an all-star cast of MasterVoices favorites. In addition to the two performances initially announced for Saturday, November 4, MasterVoices has added a third performance on Friday, November 3, at 8 PM.
The boisterously hilarious yet poignant musical was inspired by the ancient Aristophanes play of the same name. With the world at war and civilization imperiled, Dionysos, god of wine and theater, feels something drastic must be done. He journeys to the underworld with his servant Xanthias to find the world’s best playwright, who will inspire and save mankind. Along the way, the two travelers encounter many well-known mythic characters. This musical presentation of Aristophanes’ comedy was “freely adapted” by Burt Shevelove and Stephen Sondheim in 1974 and “even more freely adapted” by Nathan Lane and Sondheim for its 2004 staging at Lincoln Center Theater. The script will be further adapted by Nathan Lane for MasterVoices’ concert performances.
The Frogs has a rich and varied score with a substantial role for the chorus; it includes one of Sondheim’s most beautiful love songs, “Ariadne.”

You can affect a change. And in The Frogs, that is Dionysos’ dream– to go down to Hades and bring back this great writer. He has symphonic engagements in the U.S. and Europe and continues to teach at NYU, conducting three different orchestras and training the next generation of Broadway musicians and conductors.
Sperling has conducted multiple concerts for PBS’s Live From Lincoln Center, the American Songbook Series at Lincoln Center, and the Lyrics and Lyricists series at the 92nd Street Y. He conducted Audra McDonald in a double bill of La Voix Humaine and the world premiere of Send: Who Are You? I Love You? at the Houston Grand Opera. He won the 2005 Tony and Drama Desk Awards for his orchestrations of Adam Guettel’s The Light in the Piazza, for which he was also Music Director.
In addition to his directing work with MasterVoices, Mr. Sperling’s work as a stage director includes the world premieres of four critically acclaimed original musicals Off-Broadway—including The Other Josh Cohen and See What I Wanna See—and a noted production of Lady in the Dark at the Prince Theater in Philadelphia, starring Andrea Marcovicci. He graduated summa cum laude from Yale University, and received the Faculty Prize at The Juilliard School. He made his Broadway stage debut as Wallace Hartley in Titanic and appeared as Steve Allen in the finale of Season Two of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.”

Foo Fighters have announced the 2024 Everything Or Nothing At All Tour, in support of their 11th full length record But Here We Are. The tour kicks off with two shows at NYC’s Citi Field on July 17 and 19.
With singles “Rescued” and “Under You,” Foo Fighters acclaimed album But Here We Are was released on June 2. It debuted at #1 on UK charts, marking the group’s sixth official #1 album. But Here We Are is the group’s first release since the passing of their longtime beloved drummer, Taylor Hawkins in March 2022.
Foo Fighters’ 2024 tour begins with two shows at New York’s Citi Field on July 17 and 19, and continues with shows at legendary stadiums, such as Boston’s Fenway Park, San Diego’s Petco Park, and Seattle’s T-Mobile Park. The tour will see support from Pretenders, The Hives, Mammoth WVH, Amyl and The Sniffers, Alex G, and L7 on various dates.

Country music icon Tim McGraw is extending his highly anticipated 2024 Standing Room Only Tour with the announcement of 11 new tour dates, including a stop at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo on May 4 and UBS Arena in Belmont Park on May 5.
The Standing Room Only Tour is set to kick off on March 14, 2024, and will cover over 40 cities across the United States and Canada. Joining Tim McGraw as a special guest on all tour dates is Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Carly Pearce.

Universal Preservation Hall added a number of new acts to their list of performances in the upcoming 2023-2024 season. UPH continues to expand its repertoire with classic tribute artists, comedians, international groups, and the return of a Grammy winner, Chris Botti.

Comedian, actor, and author Paul Reiser is one of the acts coming up on October 7 at the Hall. Reiser brings his stand-up tour as one of Comedy Central’s “Top 100 Comedians of All Time.” Reiser also stars in a number of popular TV series including “Stranger Things,” “The Kominsky Method,” and “Mad About You.”
Grammy Award-winning trumpeter Chris Botti will return to Universal Preservation Hall on October 8 this fall. As a collaborator with the likes of Sting, Paul Simon, Barbra Streisand, and Lady Gaga, Botti has topped jazz charts with numerous albums over the years.
Universal Preservation Hall will host a day of Line Dance Lessons, taught by CMA winner Kevin Richards, The Country Kickers, and more popular line dance instructors and choreographers. Join the Country Kickers & Friends “Saratoga Stomp”-Country Line Dance Workshop & Dance Party starting 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12.
On March 8, the Hall will host The Seven Wonders: A Live Tribute to Fleetwood Mac. This group of accomplished musicians bring a blistering and inspiring show, honoring the classic tunes of rock legends Fleetwood Mac.

Hey Rochester, pat your local venue owners, bookers and promoters on the back, they’re firing on all cylinders this October. The month ahead is one of the most chock-full live music months in recent memory.
Legend of legends Bob Dylan, grunge stalwarts Mudhoney, gypsy jazz wizard Stephane Wrembel for four nights, punk-turned-folky Jonathan Richman are just a few of the talents coming back through town. To make it easier to narrow this list down to just five shows, let’s take a look at some first-timers in Rochester you are not going to want to miss and let’s coax them to come back by giving them some great crowds.
Bitchin Bajas are a synth-heavy instrumental trio out of Chicago that will send your mind afloat into the ether. This will be a unique show the likes of which we don’t always see in these parts. Sweetening the pot, local psych rockers Overhand Sam and Bad Weapon will open up the evening.
An international sensation, Danielle Ponder is unquestionably the queen of Rochester, not remotely new to town so what gives? As must-see as she is she certainly doesn’t belong on this list. Yes but, she’s opening the much-buzzed new venue Essex. Live music fans all over the city are clamoring to get a look inside and enjoy a new spot to catch some great shows. So Essex, new to Rochester, and worthy of a hearty welcome from all of us, come on out! Chi the Realist will open Friday night and Sheneiqua Shine on Saturday.
Folksy blues man Buffalo Nichols has the voice, the licks, the songs and he definitely has the name. Put it all together and you’ve got a young talent that you’re going to want to get on board with ASAP. He’s touring behind his fantastic brand new album, The Fatalist.

October 20: Chris Forsyth’s Evolution Band at LUX
Chris Forsyth is a guitar player extraordinaire of the knock your socks off variety. He’s coming with a trio including Ryan Jewell, a superb drummer playing with a number of awesome bands too long to list, currently on tour with Woods. And Douglas McCombs, who is most notably the bassist in post-rock legends Tortoise. Tuck these guys into the wild and intimate LUX late on a Friday night and you’ve cooked yourselves up an ass-kicking time of high-powered psychedelia. Will Veeder and his band will open the show.
Local promoter Honest Folk is back with another great show, in a new-to-them venue at Skylark Lounge. Cat Clyde, a young singer/songwriter from Ontario, Canada, is bringing a full band to present her stellar new release, Down Rounder. She connects the old and new in unique and beautiful ways and this should be a thrilling show.

Bonus! And while we’ve got your here, Honest Folk is actually bringing in another hip cat named Kat worth checking out. Two folkin’ cats in one month, is this heaven? Rochester native Kat Wright is whiddling down her usual big soul band to just a trio for a more stripped down sound. Hear them at Good Luck on October 8.
New York-based artist The Bones of J.R. Jones released a new single, “Animals,” the final single from his upcoming album Slow Lightning. The release comes alongside his upcoming tour, featuring a show at NYC’s Mercury Lounge and Woodstock’s Levon Helm Studios.
“Animals” is an upbeat, soulful folk track, supporting the musician’s upcoming record, Slow Lightning, slotted for release on October 13. That day will feature a hometown show at NYC’s Mercury Lounge for a special album release show, followed by a full US and European tour this fall.
The new track follow the release of the musician’s previous single, “The Good Life,” which dropped last month alongside an official music video featuring actress Maggie McDowell. In addition, the first promotional single, “Heaven Help Me,” debuted to great success, and has now garnered over 250,000 streams.
Known off-stage as Jonathan Linaberry, The Bones of J.R. Jones is a one-man band, songwriter, storyteller, and visual artist.

The Palace Theatre in Albany has announced their lineup of fall shows, with notable events including the iconic Jerry Seinfeld, and Hasan Minhaj, as well as rock group Kansas and the World Ballet Series’ rendition of Swan Lake this spring. The venue is a historic landmark of downtown Albany, with many original features of the building still on display after multiple renovations.
The Palace Theatre was built in 1931, and opened that year as Albany’s largest movie theatre. It went under major renovations in 1960, and in 1989 was purchased by the City of Albany after briefly shutting its doors. The Palace Theatre was established as a non-profit organization in 1984, and is now part of the Clinton Ave Historic District, as well as the US National Register of Historic Places.
The Theatre retains many of its original features, with a striking art-deco, Austrian baroque style. The main lobby maintains the original brass chandelier, and murals throughout the venue painted by Hungarian artists Andrew Karoly and Louis Szanto.
As the summer programming winds down, the theatre is planning family events and holiday film series for the upcoming seasons.
Summer programs like our Summer in the City Free Movie Series & Community Block Party will be back again next summer and other annual community programs are still coming up, such as our free community Trick-or-Treat event on Halloween and our holiday film series & Family Fun Days. Aside from those, the big concerts, comedians & tours that we are perhaps best known for continue on throughout the year and we are always adding new shows to the calendar.

This fall’s comedy lineup includes a show from the legendary Jerry Seinfeld on October 27, known for co-writing and starring in the hit sitcom Seinfeld. In addition, Hasan Minhaj will perform on October 14. Minhaj, known for his work as a correspondent on The Daily Show, has multiple successful stand-up specials on Netflix.
Music fans can enjoy The Wood Brothers, a NYC-based roots band, with a performance on October 28. The Palace also will have visits from British rock group Jethro Tull, the Albany Symphony Orchestra, and an upcoming show in March from world-renowned vocal group Celtic Woman.
The theatre recently announced a rendition of Swan Lake, presented by the World Ballet Series, to grace the stage this upcoming February. In addition, rock group Kansas will mark their 50th Anniversary Tour at The Palace Theatre in May. Both shows are now on sale at the Palace Theatre Box Office and Palacealbany.org.
