  • Summer Block Party Presents Jodeci, SWV & Dru Hill At Coney Island Amphitheater

This summer Jodeci will be headlining one of the biggest R&B tours of 2023 known as the Summer Block Party. The tour will also feature the legendary R&B vocal trio Sisters With Voices (SWV) and R&B group Dru Hill. On August 4 the icons will make a stop at the Coney Island Amphitheater in Brooklyn, New York. Fans will be able to enjoy a night of generational smashes and instantly recognizable R&B hits.

Recognized as “The Bad Boys of R&B,” Jodeci is one of the most influential R&B groups of all time. The band consists of K-Ci, DeVante Swing, JoJo, and Mr. Dalvin. The band quickly established themselves as trendsetters through their signature style, soulful harmonies, and chart-topping hits. Together they have sold over 20 million global records and achieved three #1 albums on the Billboard Top R&B Albums chart.

Jodeci’s 1991 debut album “Forever My Lady” ranked #1 on the Billboard Top R&B Albums chart in its first week of release. Additionally, the album’s hits “Come & Talk To Me,” and “Stay,” topped the charts reaching #1 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The group gained more success with their albums “Diary Of A Mad Band”, “The Show, The After Party, The Hotel”, and a hit single, “Cry For You”. The albums ranked #1 album on the Billboard Top R&B Albums chart and the single landed #1 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles and Tracks chart.

In 2021, Jodeci reunited and signed with P Music Group for management by Founder and CEO Michael Paran. To deliberate their reunion, Jodeci united with Charlie Wilson and New Edition for a 30-city tour in 2022. Following the tour, Jodeci gave an exceptional performance at the 2022 BET Awards paying homage to Diddy with a medley of their famed hits.

Sisters With Voices is a New York City based R&B vocal trio featuring the members Cheryl “Coko” Gamble, Tamara “Taj” George and Leanne “Lelee” Lyons. Growing up, the vocalists perfected their harmonies singing in church that later became synonymous with the group in the 1990s. Kenny Ortiz, a Grammy-nominated record executive heard the girl’s early demo and quickly signed them to RCA. Ortiz introduced SWV to Brian Morgan who wrote and produced songs on their debut album, “It’s About Time”. The album was a huge success making double platinum within its first year of release.

The album features hit songs “Right Here/Human Nature” and “Weak” both of which went to #1 on the R&B Billboard charts. Additionally, their song “Weak” peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot R&B / Hip-Hop chart and was certified Gold. SWV’s follow-up albums, “New Beginning” and “Release Some Tension” were certified Platinum and Gold, containing hit singles “Rain,” “Someone,” “You’re The One,” and “Use Your Heart.” The trio has made significant achievements by being honored on VH1’s “100 Greatest Women in Music” list, nominated for an American Music Award and Source Award. They also won the Soul Train “Lady of Soul” award, landed #7 on Billboard’s list of Top R&B acts and #2 on Billboard’s Top Selling/Airplay R&B Female Group of the 1990’s.

Dru Hill was founded in 1992 and was discovered by their manager Kevin Peck. The members Mark “Sisqó” Andrews, Larry “Jazz”Anthony, Tamir “Nikio” the N-Tity” Ruffin, and James “Woody Rock” Green engraved themselves into the legacy of R&B music and brought a dynamic sound to the ever-changing industry. The superstars given the world music for the ages with hits like “Tell Me,” “In My Bed,” “Never Make a Promise,” and “How Deep Is Your Love”

Over the years, Dru Hill has received multiple awards, performed across the world, topped the Billboard Music charts multiple times, and has sold over 40 million records worldwide. • Pop-punk Band Against the Current to Perform at the Gramercy Theatre on World Tour

New York-based Pop-punk band Against the Current began a world tour that kicked off its U.S. leg on April 22 and will have a performance at the Gramercy Theatre this coming May.

Against the Current also dropped their new single, “good guy.” Vocalist Chrissy Costanza describes the track as “all about going from anger to apathy, recognizing that this person that hurt you is too sad to hate,” urging listeners to “don’t ignore the red flags, trust your gut.”

The members of Against the Current, from left to right: Will Ferri (drums, acoustic guitar, piano, keyboards, backing vocals,) Chrissy Costanza (lead vocals,) and Dan Gow (lead guitar, backing vocals.)

Against the Current originated in Poughkeepsie and consists of Will Ferri, Chrissy Costanza, and Dan Gow. The band’s career spans over a decade, forming in 2011 before releasing their debut studio album, In Our Bones, in 2016. This was followed by 2018’s Past Lives, and aside from their two studio album, Against the Current have released several EPs.

“good guy” is a relatable track made even better by its visualizer. It tells the story of a romantic suitor (whether it be a guy, girl, etc.) who won’t drop their “good guy” act even when they’ve already made their true colors clear, and you’re finally seeing them for who they are. “good guy” and more music by Against the Current is now streaming.

Culture Club was initially formed in London during the New Romantic movement and consists of Boy George, Roy Hay, Mikey Craig, and formerly Jon Moss (drums and percussion.) They released their debut album, Kissing to Be Clever, in 1982 and, with the help of lead singer Boy George, achieved mainstream success in both the U.K. and the U.S. George dressed in flamboyant dresses and wore heavy makeup, creating a disarmingly androgynous appearance that created a sensation on early MTV, earning the band considerable media attention.

During the 1980s, Culture Club released several hit songs, including “Karma Chameleon” which reached number one on both sides of the Atlantic, and “It’s a Miracle” and “Miss Me Blind” which reached the Top 10. The band initially broke up in 1986, before reuniting from 1998-2002 and again in 2011. Jones’ hits have been featured in high-profile series and films such as “Stranger Things,” “Breaking Bad,” “Watchmen,” “The Carrie Diaries”, “Superstore” and “Bumblebee.”

New wave band Berlin formed in Los Angeles in 1978, founded by vocalist Terri Nunn, bassist John Crawford, and keyboard player David Diamond. The band’s career began with Information (1980), and they have since won twelve gold and platinum album awards. Berlin’s 1986 hit “Take My Breath Away” significantly appeared in Tom Cruise’s hit film Top Gun (1986) solidifying their ever-lasting place in American pop culture, and winning the award for “Best Original Song” at both the Golden Globe and Academy Awards.

Nunn’s ongoing influence earned her the #11 spot on VH1.com’s “100 Greatest Women in Rock. As an actress, she played leading roles in films including Katie: Portrait of a Centerfold with Kim Basinger, and Thank God It’s Friday with Jeff Goldblum and Debra Winger. • In This Moment And Motionless In White Announce “The Dark Horizon Tour”, Buffalo & Albany Dates

In This Moment and hard rock giants Motionless In White have announced an epic co-headline run across North America this summer featuring special guests Fit For A King and From Ashes To New.

in the moment motionless in white

“The Dark Horizon Tour” will see the two bands alternating closing sets each night and performing at arenas and amphitheaters across the country, starting in Connecticut and Buffalo in early July, and a finale on August 19th at MVP Arena in Albany.

Since coming to life in 2005, In This Moment have presided over a diehard fan base under the watch of “mother” figure, frontwoman and New York native Maria Brink—joined by co-founder and lead guitarist Chris Howorth, bassist Travis Johnson, guitarist Randy Weitzel, and Kent Dimmel. As millions convened upon the group’s otherworldly and unforgettable concerts, they quietly emerged as one of the most influential and impactful bands of the 21st century.

To date, in addition to the Gold-selling album, Blood, the quintet has garnered six Gold and Platinum singles, followed by a trifecta of Top 25 entries on the Billboard Top 200 with Black Widow and Ritual. With a total stream tally well past 200 million as of 2020, Ritual elevated them to new creative and critical peaks as well.

Between selling out headline tours coast-to-coast, the group performed in arenas everywhere alongside Disturbed and appeared at countless festivals from Rockville to Sonic Temple

Along the way, they assembled their seventh full-length, the aptly titled Mother with longtime trusted collaborator Kevin Churko. Whereas Ritual hinted at a bluesy sonic sorcery, Mother breathes the activating mantra of an unbreakable spell, commenced on first single “The In-Between.”

In 2022, the band released Blood 1983, a reimagined EP commemorating the ten-year anniversary of Blood, and most recently had their song “I Would Die For You” appear on the soundtrack for John Wick: Chapter 4

Motionless In White harnessed the power of an unholy union between industrial metal dissonance, spellbinding gothic pop bombast, and big screen-worthy iconography to emerge as 21st century rock’s most iconoclastic and cinematic force. Climbing out of the shadows of the rustbelt in Scranton, PA, the group have tirelessly earned the undying allegiance of a devout worldwide audience one record at a time.

With over half-a-billion cumulative streams and views to date, Motionless In White have notched four consecutive Top 5 debuts on the Billboard ‘Top Hard Rock Albums’ chart and ‘Top Rock Albums’ chart with ReincarnateGraveyard ShiftDisguise , and their latest effort Scoring The End Of the World. The latter debuting at #12 on the Billboard 200 marking the band’s second biggest sales week ever. Scoring The End of the World is highlighted by the singles “Cyberhex,” which trended Top 10 on YouTube, and the follow-up “Masterpiece” which lit up streaming platforms and reached #1 at Active Rock radio becoming the band’s first chart-topper at the format.

Tickets are on sale now at In This Moment’s website.

  • Cable Ties Announce Tour, Stops at Woodstock and NYC

Australian punk band Cable Ties are scheduled to embark on a North American tour, stopping at Colony Woodstock on Sept. 15 and the Bowery Ballroom in New York City on Sept. 16., in support of their new album All Her Plans, due for release on June 23.

    Cable Ties
The members of Cable Ties, from left to right: Jenny McKechnie (lead vocals and guitar), Nick Brown (bass), and Shauna Boyle (drums) Credit: Kalindy Williams.

Cable Ties are based in Melbourne and were formed in 2015 with Jenny McKechnie, Nick Brown, and Shauna Boyle. They released their self-titled debut album in 2017, and the forthcoming All Her Plans marks their studio release. A supporting single, “Time For You” is available now. All Her Plans has received considerable global praise from Stereogum, Brooklyn Vegan, NME, The Line of Best Fit, and Rolling Stone, to name a few. The album also marks the band’s first album since the pandemic began and their touring plans for 2020’s Far Enough were canceled.

“I found the idea of writing a new album a little terrifying after all our touring plans got canceled just after we released Far Enough in 2020,” McKechnie says. “It felt as though that album had been lost. I thought I needed to write another album like that again, which wouldn’t be lost. This of course wasn’t true. I needed to write whatever album came out of me at this moment in time.”

“Time For You,” definitely stands out as the best track on the album, and is made even better by its accompanying music video. The song highlights the solace found in the love of a partner, any partner, whether it be romantic, friendship, or otherwise. This message is reinforced at the end of the music video when the members of Cable Ties are lying down and embracing each other, reminding audiences of the power of friendship.

“Thoughts Back,” sees Brown take the vocal reigns for the first time since the band’s formation, delivering a fierce take on the toll of mental health challenges. “I wrote this song mostly centered around my own experiences with mental illness,” she says. “It also plays into the themes of the record, such as caregiving and mental workload. So often people give up their own lives to help others and, as a result, rarely have their voices, their experiences or their history acknowledged.”

All Her Plans is out June 23 via Merge Records. Tickets to see Cable Ties on their North American Tour, which includes a performance at Colony Woodstock before concluding at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City are available here.

  • W.A.S.P. Announce New Summer Tour With Date At Hammerstein Ballroom

Heavy Metal band W.A.S.P. has announced their newest tour, The 40th Never Stops World Tour 2023. This 33-city run kicks off in Wheatland, CA, on Saturday, August 5, and includes a stop at Hammerstein Ballroom in New York, NY, on Saturday, August 26.

W.A.S.P. are known for their controversial lyrics, style and performances. Notorious for its raunchy and, at times, shocking live shows. W.A.S.P. were known to tie semi-naked models to a torture rack, and to also hurl raw meat into the audience.

Despite their music being banned in multiple countries, W.A.S.P. persevered over the past 40 years, continuously recording and releasing music, touring with other metal legends like Iron Maiden and Metallica, and even making the occasional film cameo.

The 2023 North American tour comes following the band’s first U.S. tour in 10 years wrapping up in 2022, ending with 18 sold-out shows. The tour was selected by Metal Edge as one of the 10 Best Hard Rock and Metal Tours of 2022 and one of the 22 Memorable Rock Tours of 2022 by Ultimate Classic Rock. BraveWords writers listed the tour as the Top Concert of 2022 and selected by the Detroit radio station WRIF as one of the Top Concerts of 2022.

W.A.S.P. is currently playing off their massive European leg of the 2022 40th Anniversary World Tour, with upcoming shows taking place in Spain, Belgium, The Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Germany and more before wrapping on May 18 in Sofia, Bulgaria at Universidada Sports Hall.

  • UB40 Anniversary Tour “UB45” Stops at The Space at Westbury

Reggae-pop band UB40 is celebrating its 45th anniversary with its “UB45” summer tour throughout July, which will stop at The Space at Westbury on July 6.

The Cover of UB40’s debut studio album, 1980’s Signing Off.

The band will perform their hits “Red Red Wine,” “Food For Thought,” and “(I Can’t Help) Falling In Love With You,” among others, on their anniversary tour, in addition to being joined by special guests such as Maxi Priest, Inner Circle, Third World, and Big Mountain. Concurrently, UB40 will release a new album this summer, titled UB45, with new songs and reworked classics, and a yet-to-be-announced release date.

Guitarist/vocalist Robin Campbell said of UB40’s US tour, “We love playing the U.S., and celebrating our 45th year and having a new album makes our return even more exciting.”

UB40 was originally formed in 1978 in Birmingham, England, and its current members consist of Jimmy Brown (drums), Robin Campbell (guitar/vocals), Earl Falconer (bass/vocals), Norman Lamont Hassan (percussion/vocals), Martin Meredith (keyboards/WX7/saxophone), Tony Mullings (keyboards), Laurence Parry (trumpet/flugelhorn/trombone), Ian Thompson (saxophone) – and Matt Doyle (lead vocals.) Doyle only joined the band recently, taking over for a retired Duncan Campbell after Doyle’s group, KIOKO, opened for UB40 at The Royal Albert Hall in 2018, and later supported them on UB40’s subsequent UK tour and European tours. UB40 released their debut studio album, Signing Off, in 1980, and since then have released a total of 20 studio albums, most recently 2021’s Bigga Baggariddim.

UB40’s 45th-anniversary summer tour is in support of their upcoming studio album, UB45. One of the most successful British groups of all time, UB40 is represented in the USA and South America by Jeff Epstein and Paul Gaudio of Universal Attractions Agency (UAA.). For more information visit UB40’s website.

The Space at Westbury originally opened as Westbury Movie Theater in 1927, with a screening of Hula, starring Clara Bow, while The University of Maryland Collegian’s Band thrilled the audience with a spectacular performance. One of the six theaters built by Salvatore Calderone in Nassau County, the Westbury Theatre eventually closed due to a decline in patronage in the late 70s. Eight years ago, Cyrus Hakakian and his partners saved the Westbury Theater from demolition, and the venue now enters a new chapter of its illustrious history as The Space at Westbury.
