  • The Lumineers Tour Stops include Performances at Catbird Festival, Jones Beach and Darien Lake this Summer

    The Lumineers, an alternative folk band, announced their summer 2023 tour dates, including performances at three New York venues. Their first New York performance will take place in Wantagh at Jones Beach Theater on Aug. 18, followed by a performance at the Catbird Festival in Bethel on Aug. 19. The Lumineers’ last New York performance will be at the Darien Lake Amphitheater on Aug. 22.

    The two-time Grammy-winning band’s tour is in support of their 2022 fourth album, Brightside. The album reached the top 10 in both the U.S. and Canada, with its title track reaching the number one spot on Billboard’s Alternative National Airplay and Adult Alternative Airplay charts. This feat marked the sixth time the band topped the latter chart in less than 10 years.

    The first edition of The Lumineers Brightside tour last year sold more than 750,000 tickets across five continents. The album was recorded throughout the winter and spring of 2021 at Baron’s Sun Mountain Studios in Boiceville, NY. Produced by longtime collaborator Simone Felice and engineered and mixed by David Baron, who also provided input on producing, the nine-song collection sees The Lumineers’ co-founders/co-songwriters Wesley Schultz and Jeremiah Fraites performing virtually all of the instrumentation.

    Schultz and Fraites are from New Jersey and played at various venues throughout New York in the 2000s. In 2010, they relocated to Denver and met former band members Neyla Pekarek, Maxwell Hughes, and Ben Wahamaki. Their self-titled debut album was released in the spring of 2012. Shortly after, their debut single, “Ho Hey” was released. Before the release of their debut album and single, “Ho Hey” was featured in a December 2011 episode of The CW’s Hart of Dixie.

    The Lumineers are continuing their partnership with environmental nonprofit REVERB to reduce the environmental footprint of this year’s tour. The band will help fund a REVERB-vetted climate project that aims to reduce greenhouse gas pollution. Fans are encouraged to join the band’s efforts at every show in the REVERB Action Village.

  • Flushing Town Hall Announces “Women’s History Trilogy” Concert Series 

    This March, Flushing Town Hall announced the return of its Women’s History Trilogy as a celebration for Women’s History Month. The production is a three-part series which entails outstanding vocalists paying tribute to legendary music singers and songwriters.

    The trilogy begins March 3, at 7pm featuring Golden Girls. The melodic vocalist Zoe Lyons Nieves will perform more than 40 years of popular songs made by living legends. Audience members will hear music from fan favorites such as Dionne Warwick, Shirley Bassey, Barbra Streisand, Carole King, Petula Clark, Katy Perry, Alicia Keys, and Lady Gaga.

    Zoe Lyons Nieves is Boston born but has resided in New York City for over 25 years. The award-winning singer, songwriter, and producer has received a Boston Music Award, hit the charts of Billboard, and was signed to Sony under Epic Records. Her voice has been featured in several television and radio jingles, including with Disney, Showtime, Chevrolet, and Poland Springs. Nieves is a frequent performer at Mohegan Sun in addition to numerous special events throughout the country. You might’ve witnessed her performing at the NFL Commissioner’s Superbowl Ball, Fox Broadcasting Company’s Upfront parties, and the opening night parties for On the Town and Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet Of 1812.

    March is for powerhouse female vocalists, and we look forward to celebrating their talents on our stage. Audiences will enjoy a range of popular music hits and are sure to hear some of their personal favorites

    The second part of the trilogy begins March 17 at 7PM with Paris is for Lovers French Songs Made Famous by Women. The production will feature several romantic French songs by Edith Piaf, Jacques Prévert, Yves de Montand, and Michael Fugain. Additionally, Gabriele Tranchina will be joined on stage by her husband and music director Joe Vincent Tranchina. 

    Gabriele Tranchina is a German-born Parisian chanteuse, with Brazilian stylings, who now lives in New York City. She’s performed throughout the Tri State area with her ensemble and on annual tours to major European cities. It’s evident that Tranchina values her reputation as a well-respected, popular jazz and world vocalist. Her most recent album is Of Sailing Ships and the Stars in Your Eyes.

    The concluding performance of the trilogy will be on March 31 at 7PM with I’m Every Woman. The final show will serve as a tribute to famous female pop singers who have passed. The outstanding vocalist, Emilie Surtees, will take the stage with her band and background singers to perform masterpieces from Amy Winehouse, Whitney Houston, Olivia Newtown John, and Aretha Franklin.

     Emilie Surtees’s roots in New York City exposed her to a diverse music culture that is present in her music and performances. You can witness Surtee’s diversity in her written and co-produced tunes on her Reflections of You CD.

  • “Rock & Roll Man” Musical to Open on Broadway in June

    Rock & Roll Man, a new musical honoring legendary American DJ Alan Freed, opens on Broadway on June 21, announced today by Tony Award-winning producers Caiola Productions and Jay & Cindy Gutterman. Previews begin June 2. Constantine Maroulis stars as Alan Freed, and Randal Myler directs the musical.

    Set on the last day of Freed’s life, Rock & Roll Man chronicles the life and accomplishments of Alan Freed, the boundary-pushing musician who popularized the records that became the foundation of rock. The musical comprises an original score with genre-defying hits like “Lucille,” “Why Do Fools Fall in Love,” and “Tutti Frutti,” to name a few. Unsurprisingly, the production won the 2019 Broadway World Berkshires Awards for Best Musical.

    Producers Caiola Productions and Jay & Cindy Gutterman said “Rock & Roll Man is a timeless and tremendously entertaining musical that will move and inspire people of all ages and backgrounds.” They expanded on Freed’s accomplishments in the industry, including defying the then-status quo by being the first white DJ to play Black music on mainstream radio. In doing this, Freed united Black and white artists at the dawn of the civil rights movement.

    Randal Myler, Director of Rock & Roll Man

    Randal Myler is a Tony Award nominee for co-conceiving and directing It Ain’t Nothin’ But The Blues at Lincoln Center. Additionally, he wrote and directed the critically acclaimed Hank Williams: Lost Highway. Other credits include his Janis Joplin bio-musical Love, Janis, which surpassed 700 performances at the former Village Gate, a many more.

    Constantine Maroulis, born in Brooklyn and raised in New Jersey is best known for his iconic star turn in Broadway’s Rock of Ages, earning him a number of accolades, including Broadway.com Star of the Year. He hails from the heyday of American Idol, winning the hearts of 30 million viewers weekly during the show’s fourth season, despite coming in sixth place. A graduate of the prestigious Boston Conservatory at Berklee College of Music, Maroulis resides in New Jersey and has a 12-year-old daughter, Malena James.

  • Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit Announce Tour Dates At Artpark, Capitol Theatre, The Paramount

    Grammy-Award winners Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit has announced the upcoming release of their eighth album, Weathervanes, along with a brand new North American tour. 

    Written and produced by Isbell, Weathervanes features 13 brand new tracks. “Death Wish,” the debut release from the collection, is available now. Weathervanes is a collection of grown-up songs: Songs about adult love, about change, about the danger of nostalgia and the interrogation of myths, about cruelty and regret and redemption. Some will make you cry alone in your car and others will make you sing along with thousands of strangers in a big summer pavilion, united in the great miracle of being alive. Isbell is a storyteller at the peak of his craft, observing his fellow wanderers, looking inside and trying to understand, reducing a universe to four minutes.

    “There is something about boundaries on this record,” said Isbell. “As you mature, you still attempt to keep the ability to love somebody fully and completely while you’re growing into an adult and learning how to love yourself.”

    Weathervanes was recorded at Nashville’s Blackbird Studio and features Jason Isbell’s Grammy-winning band, The 400 Unit. Special guests include GRAMMY winner Amanda Shires and harmonicist Mickey Raphael, with background vocals on “If You Insist“ by renowned producer and engineer Sylvia Massy & Ian Rickard and Strings on “Death Wish” by Morgan O’Shaughnessey. 

    Also announced today, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit will be hitting the road throughout the summer, including a show at Artpark Mainstage Theater in Lewiston on August 5.

  • Rock and Roll Legends KISS Announce Their Final Shows Ever, two Shows at MSG

    Rock and Roll legends KISS announce their final set of shows on The End of The Road Tour, coming to the city where their career began- New York City, on Dec. 1 and 2, as well as other cities.

    KISS was formed in New York City in 1973 on 23rd Street, composed by Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley, and Peter Criss. They are one of the best-selling bands of all time with 44 album releases, selling more than 100 million records worldwide, including 21 million RIAA-certified albums. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014 for their influence on rock music and their eye-catching aesthetic, inspiring many.

    In a statement, the band said, “It will be a privilege and honor to finish touring at Madison Square Garden, 10 blocks and 50 years from where we first started.” Their final tour will be hitting MSG on Dec. 1 and 2, concluding their run of about 50 years.   • Saturday Night at the Waterhole Series Returns to Saranac Lake

    The latest and greatest concert series in the North Country – Saturday Night at the Waterhole – returns to downtown Saranac Lake beginning Saturday March 4th. As the name suggests, The Waterhole Music Lounge will host live music on Saturday nights in the Upstairs Music Lounge.

    The series runs from March 4th through early May, with a wide variety of bands and artists making their way into the North Country to warm up audiences well into the spring.

    Concert tickets and more information can be found at saranaclakewaterhole.com or in person by stopping at the downstairs bar. Ticket prices will vary. Doors open at 7:30 and shows begin at 8:30 pm. The Waterhole is a 21+ music venue.

    The Bubs will open the concert series on March 4th. This 10-piece white jumpsuit-clad collective of artists & musicians, have been sweeping everyone off their feet with their catchy songs and fiery contagious energy. Their music is ferocious, tender, vindicating, and cathartic; a crooked vessel for pain, nostalgia, empowerment, and vindication, all filtered through a dirty sieve. Think white-hot punk & garage rock styled music.

    March 11th marks the return of Kat Wright, whose voice is both sultry and dynamic, delicate yet powerful; gritty but highly emotive and nuanced. She has been described as “a young Bonnie Raitt meets Amy Winehouse.” Add to that voice enough stage presence to tame lions, and the combination of feline femininity, proving to be immediately enchanting.

    The Sideways return March 18th for their 5th Saranac Lake performance. Hailing from Rochester, New York, this eight-piece band offers up their own joyful blend of disco pop + snarky soul, with a heavy dose of jazz influence, founded by brainchild Joey “sideways” Stehle.

    Driftwood will make their long awaited return to the Waterhole stage on the 25th of March. Their music has been described as fusing traditional Americana with contemporary influences and timeless subject matter. Listening to their music, one gets the sense that the band is young with an old soul. There’s a deep, driving force behind each refrain – the kind that makes you dance with your eyes closed, or stop still to take in the energy the band is passing on to the audience.

    April 1st will mark the rescheduled date for Los Blancos. This band has a reputation for ripping through blues, soul, rockin’ zydeco, Latin, outlaw country, funk, folk, and bottomless bag of tricks that’s always sure to get the party started.

    On the last Saturday in April, Mal Maiz will turn up the heat on the dance floor. Costa Rican “Brujo” Maiz Vargas Sandoval and his Afro-Latino Orchestra are a hot East Coast dance band with both a traditional and modern flair. Based out of Burlington VT, Mal Maiz blends traditional cambia with psychedelic grooves, latin, reggae, and afro-carribean sounds.

    If David Byrne is one of the geniuses of modern times, then Start Making Sense is a tribute to genius. A crowd favorite, Start Making Sense will return to the Waterhole on May 6th. The musicians in this 7-piece Talking Heads tribute take pride in faithfully recreating the music of Talking Heads’ entire career, including songs they never performed live.

    The Waterhole is stoked to announce The Seapods featuring Al Schnier of Moe. on May 13th. The Seapods are 4/5ths of the seminal 90’s jamband, Ominous Seapods who have now been playing at the Waterhole for 30+ years.

    May 20th will highlight another crowd favorite, The Big Takeover. The 7-piece band hails from the Hudson Valley and is fronted by charismatic Jamaican-born singer and songwriter Nee Nee Rushie. The Big Takeover plays original music that is rooted in and reverent toward the genres and rhythms of Jamaican pop: reggae, rocksteady, and ska.

    The final concert in the Saturday Night at the Waterhole series will feature the bedazzled and glittered performers of Bella’s Bartok. Their sound has gradually evolved from street-punk performers to an electric, brass filled, accordion-based spectacle that has continued to entertain audiences for nearly a decade.

  • moe. announces 2-night run at Saranac Brewery in June, Summer Tour Dates Nationwide

    Following a monumental weekend in Albany at the Palace Theatre, moe. has announced that they will be returning to New York this June for a two-night run at Saranac Brewery in Utica. The shows will take place over June 9-10, following the group’s return from Summer Camp Music Festival.

  • Rising Punk Band The Knottie Boys to Perform Twice in New York this April

    The Knottie Boys, a rising punk rock band from New York, are scheduled to perform their EP A Face Fulla Dirt twice in New York this spring. Their first performance will be at Club Odyssey in Oneonta on April 9 at 7 p.m. This will be followed on April 11 at 6 p.m. with a performance at Amityville Music Hall in Long Island, part of Makes My Blood Dance’s tour.

    A Face Fulla Dirt, The Knottie Boys’ EP

    A Face Fulla Dirt compiles five punk rock tracks from The Knottie Boys. The entire EP can be enjoyed in less than a half hour (for those in a rush, at least.) Otherwise, it’s safe to say the crowd will be demanding an encore at their Oneonta and Long Island shows. There’s enough variety in their music for everyone to enjoy, but there’s still more than enough energy in their tracks to sustain an action-packed live performance. If you’re looking for a fun night out with live music, The Knottie Boys are a band you can’t miss.

    New York natives, The Knottie Boys formed in 2018 after high school. At the time, they were working at Hot Topic. The band is known for its theatrical playing style and story-driven songs.   • Symphony Space Presents “Wall To Wall” At Peter Jay Sharp Theatre in April

    Multi-disciplinary Upper West Side performing arts center, Symphony Space l, has announced their annual Wall to Wall Women of Soul performance. The production entails a night of commemorating the contributions of women to the music industry. You won’t want to miss a night of classic hits from your favorite female artists. 

    Kathy Landau, an executive director for Symphony Space revealed the details for 2023’s Wall to Wall Women of Soul. The event consists of marathon performances revisiting towering artistic legacies, which The New York Times has described as “an annual gift to New York City.”

    Curated by Monique Martin, Wall to Wall Women of Soul showcases extraordinary singers, musicians, dancers, and thinkers celebrating the contributions of women across generations and genres. The event can be enjoyed at the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre at Symphony Space on April 1, from 3-11pm.

    The Wall to Wall Women of Soul features stars including singer, songwriter, and producer Nona Hendryx, with an all women orchestra. Performing will also be Grammy-winning singer-songwriter J. Hoard, with other singers such as Xavier Smith, Martha Redbone, Marija Abney, Marcelle Davies Lashley, and Anthony Mills. Lastly, the pianist Dj Elew, author, producer, and creative executive Thembisa Mshaka, and the members of Ladies of Hip-Hop will also take the stage. Admission for both in-person and live-stream tickets are free.

    Tony- and Emmy-winning actress, singer, and dancer LaChanze has joined the lineup along with the recent additions of all-female salsa band Lulada Club and poet Mahogany L. Browne, on video.

    “The contributions of women to soul music are often overlooked or reduced to a few artists and hits. The truth is that women continue to expand the genre’s canon, using their voices to disrupt, heal, inspire, protest, and transmit joy, by creating music that speaks to the moment. Audiences will experience music they know and love to sing and dance to, as well as fresh interpretations and new music to discover, at Wall to Wall Women of Soul.”
