Alternative country band Divining Rod just released a new single, “GOAT” in support of their latest studio album, Santa Monica & Other Golden Classics, due for release on May 19.
The sound of “GOAT” is reminiscent of Southern Rock’s golden age, due in large part to the song’s exhilarating vocals by founding member Miyuki Furtado. Santa Monica & Other Golden Classics marks Divining Rod’s first major release since the pandemic first hit the United States.

Divining Rod started out as a solo project for Hawaiian native Miyuki Furtado, originally of the rock band the Rogers Sisters. After the Rogers Sisters broke up, Furtado left his beloved Brooklyn neighborhood with his family for greener (and less crowded) pastures. “My wife and I bought a small, beat-up house north of the city and settled down.” With the help of guitarist/vocalist Patrick Harmon, Furtado began playing shows handling guitar, vocals, and drums, utilizing his homemade drumset while Harmon added his unique guitar playing and harmonies to the mix. Second drummer John Malone and bassistMatt Svigalsround out the band.
“GOAT” may be one of the ‘greatest’ songs by Divining Rod of all time. If the rest of Santa Monica & Other Golden Classics is anything like its latest single, Divining Rod is sure to have a long career ahead of themselves, and future releases by the band will be music you certainly won’t want to miss. I’m sometimes asked if my songs are fiction or based on something that actually happened to me in real life. My songs are often based on experiences I’ve had or on stories I’ve heard from friends and acquaintances. It is not uncommon for the subject matter to be a combination of several people. There are times, however, when I’ll write about a specific person; like this one. A pretty terrible person is being portrayed in this story: selfish, dishonest, and cruel at times. GOAT is an appropriate title for the song. Despite this, I wonder if I am subconsciously writing about my negative qualities, given that I was raised Buddhist. In Buddhism, people are a reflection of the individual, so it could be my own embarrassment about my own negativity. The question is still fresh in my mind, I guess – Yeesh!

On May 6 and 7, 2023 the legendary Bearsville Center in Woodstock will host the second annual Woodstock Rock Art & Poster Show (WRAPS).
WRAPS, started in 2022, is the first large scale, northeast expo exclusively presenting these works. Modeled on, and with the support of, the famous The Rock Poster Show (T.R.P.S.) held annually since 1988 in San Francisco, WRAPS is poised to become the premier event for poster collectors in the northeast. This year’s event promises to be a versatile and exciting show.

Exhibitors will include well known artists as well as newcomers making a splash on the scene. Live music will be presented each night with Woodstock’s own Misty Mountain Ramblers on Saturday and Sabrina & the Gems on Sunday. Since the 1990s interest in artistic concert posters and flyers has increased exponentially. Promotional pieces from the classic rock era to the modern music age have become highly sought after collectibles. Rock poster art is an internationally recognized art form, featuring many talented artists spanning decades long careers from graphic design to commissioned works, garnering attention in fine art galleries and auctions.

Troy pop-rock natives Gracies Paris has released their newest single “Fragile”
Gracie’s Paris is a hook-oriented, power pop-inspired rock band from the NY Capital Region. Originally formed as a trio in 2007, the original lineup included Carl Ferritto on guitar and lead vocals, Randy Rose on bass, and Eric Buechner on drums. The band went on hiatus in 2013 and reunited as a four-piece during COVID, adding lead guitarist Steve Hourigan to the original 3. Since mid-2022, Gracie’s Paris has focused on writing and recording.
To keep listeners engaged, Gracies Paris like to change sound for each single. Despite the differences in inspirations, lyrics and genres, Gracies Paris manages to build a cohesive, yet intricately different soundscape for their fans.
Coming in at just under 3 and a half minutes,”Fragile” describes a failing relationship with a narcissist. This track is a high-energy bass driven song with an 80’s inspired feel. Despite the heavy topic, this track manages to hook itself into your brain, with an incredibly catchy chorus. Perfect for your commute to work, or reminiscing on past relationships, “Fragile” shows off the best of Gracies Paris unique vibe.
Tesla rocked the Seneca Niagara Casino in Niagara Falls with an incredible performance on April 15th. They last played the Niagara Falls area in 2019 and the Buffalo area in 2015. The legendary hard rock band has been a staple in the rock world for over three decades. The crowd eagerly anticipated the show from the moment the band took the stage. Tesla began with “Ladyluck,” a high-energy classic that set the tone for the night.
One of the show’s highlights was the band’s tribute to their former bandmate, Tommy Skeoch. Jeff Keith’s powerful vocals soared over Frank Hannon and Dave Rude’s heartfelt guitar work during the touching rendition of “What You Give.” Fans sang along to the emotional lyrics, paying their respects to the late musician.
Throughout the night, Tesla played hit after hit, including “Modern Day Cowboy,” “Love Song,” and “Love Me”. Fans sang along to every word, their voices blending together in a chorus of appreciation for the band’s incredible music.
But it wasn’t just the music that made the night special. Tesla’s connection with the audience was undeniable, and the crowd responded with cheers and applause. Brian Wheat’s bass and Troy Luccketta’s drums provided a rock-solid foundation for the band’s sound. Frank Hannon and Dave Rude traded blistering solos, their fingers dancing across the fretboards with ease.
As the night came to a close, Tesla launched into a rousing encore, playing “Little Suzi” and “Signs” to the delight of the crowd. Fans sang along, their voices blending together in a powerful show of appreciation for the band’s incredible talent.
In conclusion, Tesla’s performance at Seneca Niagara Casino was a masterclass in classic hard rock. The band’s musicianship was impeccable, their showmanship undeniable, and their connection with the audience was electric. It was a night that will be remembered by all in attendance, a testament to the enduring power of rock and roll.
Australian punk band Cable Ties are scheduled to embark on a North American tour, stopping at Colony Woodstock on Sept. 15 and the Bowery Ballroom in New York City on Sept. 16., in support of their new album All Her Plans, due for release on June 23.

Cable Ties are based in Melbourne and were formed in 2015 with Jenny McKechnie, Nick Brown, and Shauna Boyle. They released their self-titled debut album in 2017, and the forthcoming All Her Plans marks their studio release. A supporting single, “Time For You” is available now. All Her Plans has received considerable global praise from Stereogum, Brooklyn Vegan, NME, The Line of Best Fit, and Rolling Stone, to name a few. The album also marks the band’s first album since the pandemic began and their touring plans for 2020’s Far Enough were canceled.
“I found the idea of writing a new album a little terrifying after all our touring plans got canceled just after we released Far Enough in 2020,” McKechnie says. “It felt as though that album had been lost. I thought I needed to write another album like that again, which wouldn’t be lost. This of course wasn’t true. I needed to write whatever album came out of me at this moment in time.”
“Time For You,” definitely stands out as the best track on the album, and is made even better by its accompanying music video. The song highlights the solace found in the love of a partner, any partner, whether it be romantic, friendship, or otherwise. This message is reinforced at the end of the music video when the members of Cable Ties are lying down and embracing each other, reminding audiences of the power of friendship.
“Thoughts Back,” sees Brown take the vocal reigns for the first time since the band’s formation, delivering a fierce take on the toll of mental health challenges. “I wrote this song mostly centered around my own experiences with mental illness,” she says. “It also plays into the themes of the record, such as caregiving and mental workload. So often people give up their own lives to help others and, as a result, rarely have their voices, their experiences or their history acknowledged.”

Paul Simon has announced the upcoming release of his highly anticipated musical work, Seven Psalms, which will be available on May 19th.
During his distinguished career spanning six decades, musician Paul Simon has produced timeless masterpieces, such as Bridge Over Troubled Water, Sounds of Silence, and Graceland, has received 16 Grammy Awards and has been twice inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. This new project is intended to be listened to as one continuous piece, a 33-minute, seven-movement composition. Recorded entirely on acoustic instruments, and predominantly performed by Paul, Seven Psalms showcases Simon’s craft at its finest and most captivating, simply with his voice and guitar.
A stunning, intricately layered work, it’s a record which establishes an engaging and meditative, almost hymnal soundscape, with Paul’s lyrics providing the gravitational center for constellations of sound woven from guitar strings and other acoustic instrumentation – including choral elements from the highly-regarded British vocal ensemble VOCES8, and a beautiful vocal appearance by Edie Brickell.
True to the origin of psalms as hymns meant to be sung rather than spoken, Seven Psalms reaches back to the very genesis of folk music: King David’s Psalms. The result is a quietly moving musical experience which uncovers a wealth of subtle details with every repeated listen. Bruce Springsteen performed a tour de force at the Rocket Mortgage Arena in Cleveland, Ohio on Wednesday, April 5th. Being just down Interstate 90 from Buffalo, many fans that couldn’t attend the sold out Buffalo show took the road trip three hours west to Cleveland.
Springsteen set the tone for the evening with a powerful performance of “No Surrender.” The Boss and his E Street Band set the tone for the evening with a passionate rendition that left the audience eagerly anticipating what was to come. What followed was a show that showcased Springsteen’s immense talent and musical prowess, and left the crowd spellbound.
Bruce Springsteen’s connection to his audience was palpable from the first note, as he masterfully worked the stage and engaged with the crowd throughout the night. The setlist was a perfect blend of old and new, with some surprises thrown in for good measure. Springsteen and his band delivered a night of music that had the audience on their feet, dancing and singing along to every word.
The band’s musicianship was exceptional, with each member delivering an outstanding performance. Bruce Springsteen’s voice was as powerful as ever, and his emotive guitar work filled the arena with sound. He seamlessly moved from one song to the next, delivering hit after hit. Some including “Ghosts,” “Prove It All Night,” “The Promised Land,” “Backstreets,” and “Badlands.”
One of the standout moments of the night was an emotionally charged performance of “Last Man Standing,” which Springsteen wrote for a close friend who had passed away. The song was a moving tribute that left the crowd in reflective silence. Springsteen’s musical prowess was further highlighted in “Last Man Standing” as he delivered a poignant and memorable performance.
The encore was a fitting end to a night that will be remembered by all who attended. Springsteen and his band delivered a medley of hits, including “Rosalita (Come Out Tonight),” “Dancing in the Dark,” and “Thunder Road.” The crowd sang and danced along, showing their appreciation for a performance that will be talked about for years to come.
Bruce Springsteen’s performance at the Rocket Mortgage Arena in Cleveland was nothing short of exceptional. Bryant Park Corporation has announced the 2023 lineup for its free summer performing arts series, Bryant Park Picnic Performances, presented by Bank of America, happening from June 1 to Sept. 14.

Located in Midtown Manhattan, Bryant Park’s Picnic Performances has grown into one of the foremost outdoor performing arts festivals in New York City. Over 75,000 people attended last summer, and nearly half a million watched the live streaming of the free performances. The 2023 season features world-class local artists as well as performers from as far away as Italy, Colombia, Turkey, Finland, and South Africa. More than 20 shows from the 2023 season will be live-streamed for free on Bryant Park’s social media channels and website, reaching national and international audiences. Attendees may bring their own food or purchase from on-site food and beverage vendors near the Lawn.
“Bryant Park Picnic Performances is an uncommonly collaborative project that is meant to showcase the best of the arts in New York City,” says Dan Fishman, Vice President of Public Events at Bryant Park Corporation. “I cannot imagine a better way to celebrate New York than to provide a platform in partnership with the many cultural institutions – large and small – that make this city great.”
This summer, the New York City Opera will host a number of shows in Bryant Park, kicking off the picnic performances on June 1 at 7 p.m. with a one-night-only, staged, and costumed production of Puccini’s La Bohème with orchestral accompaniment, conducted by Maestro Joseph Rescigno. Later on Aug. 18 at 7 p.m., there will be a live music-supported production of Rossini’s The Barber of Seville featuring members of the New York City Opera Orchestra. Tenor Alessandro Lora performs a special concert of Italian favorites on Aug. 19. Closing out the New York City Opera series is Gounod’s Romeo and Juliet on Sept. 8, starring Ekaterina Siurina and tenor Won Whi Choi.

Different contemporary dance performances curated by Tiffany Rea-Fisher will take place in June, starting with Robin Dunn, Buddha Stretch, and Mr. Wiggles with additional artists TBA, marking 50 years of hip-hop dance on June 8. The next day brings Dance Heginbotham, a New York-based contemporary dance company founded in 2011 committed to supporting, producing, and sustaining the work of choreographer John Heginbotham, enriching national and international communities with its unique blend of inventive, thoughtful, and rigorous dance theater works. Two rising stars in contemporary dance, Terk Lewis and Kayla Farrish perform on June 15. Lewis began his formal ballet training at the age of 17 with Tony Calucci at The Dance Extension in Columbus, earning his BFA in Dance from Western Michigan University. He has choreographed his own commissioned works for The National Dance Theatre Company of Jamaica, The Joffrey Ballet School, Black Boys Dance Too (Presented by Bryant Park NYC), and Western Michigan University.
Farrish is a Black American Director merging dance-theater, filmmaking, narrative, and sound score, receiving the Sundance Uprise Grant for Emerging BIPOC Directors, Bessie Awards for NYLA’s Motherboard Suite, the Harkness Promise Award for 2022, and more. The last contemporary dance performances feature two of New York’s extraordinary percussive dance artists, Soles of Duende and Josh Johnson on June 16. Soles of Duende is on a lifelong mission to elevate the joy and music of true collaboration across disciplines and the celebration of the forms they practice, based on the sounds of Tap (Amanda Castro), Flamenco (Arielle Rosales), and Kathak (Brinda Guha). Johnson is a Harlem native, who tap-danced on the trains of New York City to pay for college at Penn State University, going on to perform at many jazz clubs in the city, ABC World News with Diane Sawyer, and has made multiple appearances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

The Emerging Music Festival presented by Bryant Park and curated by AdHoc returns this summer with some of the best up-and-coming artists today. Starting June 23, THUS LOVE, Psymon Spine, and Katy Kirby grace the stage. THUS LOVE was founded in 2018 by three trans-multi-instrumentalists in Brattleboro, Vermont, Echo Marshall (she/her), Lu Racine (he/they), and Nathaniel van Osdol (they/them). The mission statement of the group is to amplify the voices of those who struggle, tackling weighty themes with startling intimacy and vulnerability. Brooklyn-based dance group Psymon Spine is comprised of Noah Prebish, Peter Spears, Brother Michael Rudinski, and Sabine Holler, taking inspiration from Talking Heads and Os Mutantes along with the rush of the NYC dance scene, fuzing psych-pop and post-punk.
Katy Kirby is an indie rock songwriter, with lyrics focusing on unspoken rules, misunderstandings of all kinds, and boredom, forming a band to work on recording a full-length record. The Emerging Music Festival’s final day on June 24 consists of Ky Vöss, Seramic, Miss Grit, Dead T00th, and More TBA. Vöss is an NYC-based American producer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, utilizing stark contrasting lyrics, striking visuals, and synthesized melodies to walk the line between otherworldly and deeply human. Seramic (Marcus Foster) showcases a powerfully unique and varied range of influences, releasing two critically acclaimed EPs, combining his love for Prince, gospel, & soul singers of the 70s and 80s mixed with 90’s hip hop and RnB. New York-based musician Margaret Sohn created Miss Grit to function as an outlet for their own analysis and expression of self, releasing their debut record Follow The Cyborg earlier this year.
Dead T00th is a Brooklyn-based indie rock band that has released several EPs, winning OWL Winter Madness (a 16-band, 5-week-long “battle of the bands” at Brooklyn’s legendary rooftop venue Our Wicked Lady). Other concerts include Shaina Taub and Friends on Aug. 11. Taub is an Obie Award-winning, Emmy Award-nominated songwriter and performer. She is an artist-in-residence at Joe’s Pub and at the Public Theater, where she wrote and starred in Suffs, garnering Drama League, Drama Desk, and Lortel Award nominations. She has three solo records released, created, and starred in critically acclaimed musical adaptations of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night and As You Like It at Free Shakespeare in the Park, as part of their community-based program, Public Works, among many other accomplishments.

On June 2, Jazzmobile brings trumpeter, Steve Oquendo, to lead a 19-musician Latin jazz orchestra. Other events include the Jalopy Theatre curating a three-part folk festival with bluegrass headliners Michael Daves Quartet Ft. Tony Trischka, Malian kora virtuoso Yacouba Sissoko, and lap steel guitarist Terrell King on June 30, the Classical Theatre of Harlem performing an abridged version of Langston in Harlem, five nights of music presented by Carnegie Hall Citywide, and more. Famed guitarist Peter Frampton has announced his summer tour, the Never Say Never Tour. The tour will kick off in June and see Frampton making stops nationwide through August, including stops at The Capitol Theatre, The Paramount, and Turning Stone Casino.
Peter Frampton is one of the most celebrated artists and guitarists in rock history. In 2007, Frampton won a Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental Album for Fingerprints and in 2014 was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame. He received the prestigious Les Paul Innovation Award from NAMM’s TEC Awards in 2019 and his album All Blues was #1 for fifteen weeks on Billboard’s Blues Chart.
In 2020 Frampton was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, his autobiography Do You Feel Like I Do?: A Memoir debuted on The New York Times Bestsellers list, and his 2021 album Frampton Forgets The Words was released to widespread critical acclaim. In November of last year, Frampton performed a sold-out show at London’s Royal Albert Hall which was filmed and is currently airing on PBS as part of their Pledge Drive. Most recently, Frampton announced that on July 28 Intervention Records will release Frampton@50, a numbered limited-edition vinyl box set featuring Frampton’s essential 1972-1975 studio releases Wind of Change, Frampton’s Camel and Frampton.

Singer-Songwriter Lucinda Williams has announced her newest single “New York Comeback” off her upcoming album Stories From A Rock N’ Roll Heart.
The last couple years have been challenging for Williams to say the least. In 2020, a tornado damaged her new home in Nashville, followed two weeks later by the beginning of the COVID lockdown. Later that November, Williams suffered a stroke that partially impaired some of her motor skills on the left side of her body, forcing her to learn to walk again and taking away her ability to play the guitar.
This new single however marks a triumphant return from Lucinda. “New York Comeback,” written by Williams, Tom Overby and Jesse Malin, also includes guest vocalists – Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa. A Lucinda Williams fan, Springsteen joined her onstage in London a few years back, and he and Scialfa had wanted to contribute to a Williams album for some time.
With Wynans on B3 and the Pettibone-Mathis guitar attack, the musical setting perfectly matches the theme of “Comeback”. Says Williams, “Having Bruce and Patti on these songs feels really great. It’s just so cool!”
