  • moe. Announce 2-night New Year’s Eve Run at Kodak Center in Rochester, Winter Tour Dates

    moe. has announced that they will ring in the New Year with a special 2-night run at the renowned Kodak Center in Rochester.

    With deep roots in nearby Buffalo and an enduring connection to Rochester, these special performances are not just another set of gigs, instead they are a testament to the band’s resilience, in light of guitarist Chuck Garvey’s recent health challenges, triumphant return to the road, and addition of Nate Wilson (keys) to the moe. lineup.

    Alongside the announcement of moe.’s NYE run, the band along with several other musical acts and venues, are lending strong support to The American Cancer Society (ACS) through its inaugural “Rock The Pink” campaign. This initiative aims to harness the influence of the music community to combat breast cancer.

    To date, the band has already raised more than $4,500, and efforts are ongoing. Having collaborated with the ACS’s breast cancer initiatives for the past two years, this year moe. has combined efforts with Umphrey’s McGee, Goose, the Disco Biscuits, Andy Frasco & the U.N., Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Kitchen Dwellers, and Doom Flamingo, as well as venues like The Capitol Theatre & Garcia’s.

    Each participant is contributing in their own unique way, from selling limited-edition merchandise to flaunting pink instruments on stage and wearing pink-themed outfits, all to generate funds and awareness. 100% of the proceeds go directly to ACS, the nation’s premier nonprofit for cancer research funding.   • Binghamton Philharmonic Delivers Chills and Thrills with “Phantom of the Philharmonic”

    On Saturday, October 28, at the Broome County Forum Theatre, the Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra kicked off its 2023-2024 Pops Series with “Phantom of the Philharmonic,” a lively performance of Halloween-themed music from stage, screen, and concert hall. Guest conductor Grant Cooper, resplendent in a Dracula cape, led the orchestra in such hair-raising classics as the theme from Halloween, the Psycho Suite, and “Night on Bald Mountain.”

    The orchestra reveled in the repertoire, demonstrating their exceptional dynamic range and clearly having fun at the same time. Many in the audience – including lots of kids – were impressively costumed, and showed their appreciation for the expert playing and Maestro Cooper’s engaging dialogue with a standing ovation.

    The Phiharmonic’s concertmaster Uli Speth took a star turn as the violin soloist in the haunting “Danse macabre” of Camille Saint-Saëns, and concert-goers were treated to a range of special effects, from multi-colored smoke to a cannon that released bat-shaped confetti at the climactic moment in Grieg’s “In the Hall of the Mountain King.”

  • Dopapod Winter Tour Visits Buffalo, Syracuse and Saratoga in March

    Dopapod’s winter/spring tour for 2024 kicks off in the Southeast this coming January, but by March the group will be hitting New York for a trio of shows in Buffalo, Syracuse and Saratoga Springs.

    After a dozen shows in the Southeast, including five consecutive nights in Florida, Dopapod will have another 10 shows at yet to be announced venues and locales. By mid-March, the four-piece – keyboardist/vocalist Eli Winderman, guitarist/vocalist Rob Compa, bassist Chuck Jones and drummer Neal “Fro” Evans – will be back in the Northeast, ready to hit some familiar haunts.

    On Tuesday, March 19, the palindromic band performs at Buffalo Iron Works, then after a day off Dopapod will be at the Westcott Theater in Syracuse. Friday, March 22 finds the quartet back at Putnam Place in Saratoga Springs, where the group has performed to packed rooms, most notably on October 20, 2021 when they spent the entire first set performing Pink Floyd’s “Echoes” in its entirety.   • In Focus: Biscoland brings Disco Biscuits Music Festivals back to New York

    Disco Biscuits have a long history of music festivals in New York State, their own Camp Bisco, as well as numerous performances at festivals of all sizes around the state. For the first time since 2013, a new, intentionally more intimate festival, BISCOLand, was conceived and held in Lafayette at Wonderland Forest over October 6-7.

    Joining Disco Biscuits were a pair of bands that appeared on earlier Camp Bisco lineups – Lotus and Emancipator, and newcomers to the Bisco fold – Opiou, The Floozies, Eggy and Space Bacon. With classic Camp Bisco lineups featuring up and coming artists as well as staples of the EDM/jamtronica community, the vibe of a stripped down but still well dressed music festival, perfect for an autumn weekend in Central New York.

    As for the Disco Biscuits, the jamtronica pioneers took the opportunity to break new ground with some unique musical pairings over the weekend. Biscuits fan Shimmy noted this was the first time the band segued “Confrontation” into “Orch Theme” and followed that up with “And The Ladies Were the Rest of the Night,” the other being December 29, 2014.

    Even more notably, the band took the encore on Saturday, October 7 to perform the first ever inverted “Kitchen Mitts,” playing the ending of song first, then the first part. Add to that this inverted “Mitts” appeared inside of a fitting encore appearance of “Home Again” made for an apt coda on the weekend.

  • Get a first look at SPAMALOT, Coming to Broadway on October 31

    Broadway’s SPAMALOT is slated to begin performances on Tuesday, October 31, with the official opening ‘knight’ Thursday, November 16 at the St. James Theatre on 44th Street.

    The musical first galloped onto Broadway in 2005, featuring a book & lyrics by Eric Idle and music by John Du Prez and Eric Idle. The original Broadway production was nominated for 14 Tony Awards and won three, including Best Musical, Best Direction of a Musical (Mike Nichols) and Best Featured Actress (Sara Ramirez as The Lady of the Lake) and featured choreography by Casey Nicholaw. Josh Rhodes (Bright Star, Cinderella) will return from the Kennedy Center production to direct and choreograph on Broadway. Jeffrey Finn, Vice President & Executive Producer of Theater and Artistic Director, Broadway Center Stage at The Kennedy Center serves as lead producer.

    The creative team also includes scenic and projection design by Paul Tate dePoo III, costume design by Jen Caprio, lighting design by Cory Pattak, sound design by Kai Harada & Haley Parcher, wig design by Tom Watson and music direction by John Bell. Casting is by JZ Casting, Matthew Lacey will serve as the Production Stage Manager and RCI Theatricals will serve as General Manager.

  • Binghamton Philharmonic Kicks Off the 2023-2024 Season with “Beethoven’s Fifth”

    On Saturday, September 30 at the Broome County Forum Theatre, the Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra opened its 2023-2024 season with “Beethoven’s Fifth,” a dynamic performance of some of the best-loved works of classical music.

    Maestro Daniel Hege conducted the orchestra and cellist Annie Jacobs-Perkins gave a mesmerizing performance as the soloist in Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto in E minor, causing the audience to leap to its feet and demand an encore. Jacobs-Perkins obliged with a virtuosic solo by the young American composer Andrew Norman, “Sabina,” a piece so haunting and delicate that the audience seemed to hold its breath.

    The concert started out with the jaunty and uplifting Variations on a Shaker Melody by Aaron Copland, and finished with a rousing performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 in C minor, which brought the audience to its feet a second time. It was wonderful to see many enthusiastic children in the audience, thanks not only to the free youth tickets provided by the Philharmonic’s sponsors, but also to the “Ties & Tutus” program that invites Binghamton City School students to a sit-down dinner, pre-concert chat, and free tickets to a symphonic performance. One elementary student told this reviewer: “I’m so excited to hear Beethoven! Classical music makes me feel alive.” It was clear that this young girl was speaking for the audience as a whole.

  • LCD Soundsystem Announce Tri Boro Tour in November and December

    LCD Soundsystem will once again hold a residency (of sorts) this holiday season in New York City, but instead of sticking to just one venue, the group will hit three separate venues across three boroughs on a Tri Boro Tour.

    The Tri Boro tour will find LCD Soundsystem first returning to the familiar haunts of Brooklyn Steel over the course of November 16-19. Then, heading into Manhattan, the group will find themselves at Terminal 5 from November 28 through December 1, surely making excellent use of the room’s disco ball during each show.

    Then the group will perform December 7-10 at the Knockdown Center in Queens to close out the Tri Boro Tour. As for shows in the Bronx and Staten Island, fans will have to be patient or make the trek to any of the other 12 shows lined up.

  • Williamsburg Brooklyn Bowl Announces Full 2023 Fall Lineup

    Brooklyn Bowl in Williamsburg has released the full fall line-up of shows for 2023, covering genres and artists from across the musical and entertainment spectrum.

    The line-up of more than 50 shows includes a wide array of performers, from up and coming to established acts, including the likes of Andy Frasco, Antibalas, Bahamas, Bombino, Melvin Seals & JGB, the 21st Annual New York Burlesque Festival Premiere Party, The Hold Steady, and more!

    One of Brooklyn Bowl’s unique traditions happens every weekend with late night dance parties, hosted by DJs spinning tracks from ABBA to Jay-Z. 

    Brooklyn Bowl rang in 2023 with three epic nights from New York City based gypsy-punk band Gogol Bordello last year, and this December, they will grace the Brooklyn Bowl stage for a 4-night run of celebratory New Years’ shows from the 28th-31st.

    The original Brooklyn Bowl in Williamsburg has introduced a groundbreaking integration of premiere music, expansive bowling, locally crafted beers, and an exquisite dining menu from the acclaimed Blue Ribbon Restaurant Group.   • JazzBuffalo’s Inaugural Concert Marks Beginning of Canterbury Woods Jazz Series

    It was an extraordinary evening as the inaugural jazz concert of the upcoming Canterbury Woods Jazz Series took place at the new Canterbury Woods Performing Arts Center, featuring the magnificent Jane Bunnett and Maqueque. We want to express our immense gratitude to all of you, the jazz enthusiasts, and the JazzBuffalo Community.

    We were faced with the formidable challenge of orchestrating a warm and welcoming reception for this award-winning ensemble in less than three weeks. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the nearly full-capacity audience and all the supporters who filled the new Canterbury Woods Performing Arts Center. The inspiration and enthusiastic reception you provided to these five incredibly talented women on stage were truly exceptional and unforgettable. They were filled with joy and were eager to share with others the fantastic JazzBuffalo experience, the incredible supporters, and the enthusiastic audience that our region has to offer.

    Jane Bunnett and Maqueque delivered an exceptional performance. Bunnett led the all-female ensemble, drawing from the ten-year journey of Maqueque, encompassing their original self-titled album to their latest release, “Playing With Fire.”

    In addition to Jane Bunnett’s enchanting soprano saxophone and flute, the ensemble featured Donae’ Olano’s beautiful piano performance, Tailin Marrero on the powerful bass, Joanna Majoko captivating with her vocals, and the drummer/percussionist extraordinaire, Yissy Garcia.

  • Phish Announces Annual New Year’s Eve Run at Madison Square Garden

    Phish has announced their annual New Year’s Eve run at Manhattan’s Madison Square Garden, set for December 28, 29, 30, and 31.

    The annual run at MSG marks the 15th time Phish will ring in the New Year at ‘The World’s Most Famous Arena’, and the 91st concert overall, as of New Year’s Eve, the second most for any artists at the venue behind Billy Joel.

    A ticket request period is now underway at tickets.phish.com and will continue through Monday, September 25 at 12 noon (ET). Tickets go on sale to the general public beginning Friday, September 29 at 12 noon (ET). A limited number of travel packages (hotel and tickets) will go on sale Wednesday, September 27 at Noon ET.

    Phish recently performed two benefit concerts at the Broadview Stage at SPAC August 25 – 26, raising over $3.5M for flood recovery efforts in Vermont and Upstate New York. Both shows featured special pre-show acoustic sets with Phish’s Page McConnell and Trey Anastasio, while the Saturday, August 26 performance saw Phish joined on stage by a surprise appearance from guitarist Derek Trucks.
