  • The View Center in Old Forge Hosts Performances and much more Throughout the Summer

    The View Center For Arts and Culture in Old Forge has been attracting visitors to the Adirondacks since it was founded in 1951. This summer, the organization has once again put together a diverse and enticing set of summer performances.

    The View Center’s free “Concerts in the Courtyard Series” is one of the various programs and events that attendees can enjoy during the summer months. Now in its fourth season, the series is focused on highlighting local and regional artists. Concerts are scheduled for every Wednesday from June 28 to August 3. The performances will run from 5 PM to 6:30 PM and will take place at the View Center courtyard. 

    As part of its mission, the View Center aims to continuously explore and exhibit the ever-changing nature of art. This year’s series bolsters a variety of different artists from a wide array of genres. Concert-goers will be able to enjoy folk, rock, pop, blues and jazz offerings. 

    In addition to the free concert series, there will also be a handful of paid performances by several talented musicians. Pianist Ben Cosgrove will perform at the first of these events scheduled for July 2.

    Along with the plethora of live music events this summer, the View Center also exhibits and displays impactful visual art. The View Center acts as a community space, dedicated to being an inspiring artistic force in the area. The organization offers numerous classes and opportunities for those in the surrounding area in an attempt to excite the next generation of artists.

  • Hudson West Folk Festival Lineup Announced

    The Hudson West Folk Festival returns for another year of music, art, and teaching in downtown Jersey City. The event is slated for Sept. 23 and will run from Noon to 10 pm at the Nimbus Arts Center.

    The festival incorporates both established and up-and-coming musicians into its programming. The event will feature ten different performers, two of which are new local artists. Although the festival is predominately based around folk and roots music, this year’s lineup bolsters acts from a diverse set of genres. 

    In addition to showcasing and highlighting great music, the Hudson West Folk Festival also works with the local visual arts scene. Local artists often create stage backdrops, helping to promote all the different creative talents in the area.

    One of the most unique aspects of the Hudson West Folk Festival is the music workshops that happen as part of the celebration. Free with admission, the workshops are taught by professional musicians and aim to inspire and educate the next generation of performers. 

    As part of the festival, there will also be a variety of homemade food for sale and a bar. More details and information can be found here. 

    Festival Lineup 

    Crys Matthews- Matthews is a winner of the prestigious New Song Music and Performance Competition at the Lincoln Center. Her music is marked by poignant lyrics and hopeful rhythms which help to create a powerful and salient sound. 

    The Chivalrous Crickets- An often genre-being folk band that highlights the intersectionality of many different kinds of music. From Appalachian to Celtic, the group looks to share quality songs worldwide. 

    Nation Beat- Inspired by jazz and the spirit of celebrations like Carnival, Nation Beat creates music to dance to. Their performances often include captivating drums and lively horns, making it the perfect sound to cap off the Summer season. 

    Grey Reverend- Featuring layered strings and soulful lyrics, Grey Reverend has carved out a sound between folk and blues. Reverend’s music has appeared on MTV, ABC, NBC, HBO, BBC, and NPR. 

    Danielle Miraglia- A multi-dimensional artist that combines the sounds of folk, rock, blues, and even country. Miraglia’s strong voice and creative playing style are sure to catch anyone’s attention. 

    Joshua Nelson- Nelson is known as “The Prince of Kosher Gospel”, performing with numerous gospel legends. Nelson also performs frequently with the Jewish Klezmer band The Klezmatics. 

    The Scooches- A band that treasures the diversity of folk music from around the world. Their performances are a melting pot of Americana, folk, roots, and even jazz, 

    Sean Kiely- Kiely’s calm and comforting voice pairs well with his acoustic groove. Despite the strong influence of roots/folk, Kiely’s music also weaves in elements of rock and even indie-rock. His willingness to explore other genres generates performances that are friendly for all kinds of music fans. 

  • Hudson Valley Jazz Festival Continues To Showcase Local Acts

    The Hudson Valley Jazz Festival will once again bring the sounds and soul of jazz music to Upstate New York. The celebration is now in its 14th season and has long acted as one of the premier showcases for local musicians. This year’s festival runs from August 9-13. 

    While there have been plenty of big names that have performed at the festival, the Hudson Valley Jazz Festival is truly dedicated to fostering and exhibiting musical talent around the region. Going along with the theme of community, the event will not take place at just one location like a traditional festival. Instead, the festival will unfold across various restaurants, clubs, galleries, community centers, and stages. 

    Among the towns where the festival will be held include Kingston, Warwick, Tarrytown, Montgomery, Stone Ridge, Greenwood Lake, and Woodstock. Another unique aspect of the Hudson Valley Jazz Festival is that each specific venue chooses the performers. Every participating town, business, and/or organization will have the ability to highlight the artist(s) of their preference. The result is a hyper-local experience that looks to demonstrate the diverse sounds and styles of jazz in Hudson Valley.

    There will be over 20 performances as part of the festival, with many of them being free. It all gets started on Wednesday, August 9 at The Cove in Greenwood Lake. The performance features a local all-star lineup including well-known vibraphonist Bill Ware.

  • Live At The Gantries Lineup Announced

    Presented by the Kupferberg Center for the Arts, Live at the Gantries brings free music to the banks of the East River. The concert series runs every Tuesday from July 11 through August 15. Performances are set to take place at Gantry Plaza State Park in Queens. 

    Each concert is scheduled to start at 7:00 PM. The series looks to support and foster some of the most talented local artists and bands in NYC. This year’s lineup features music from several different genres, including R&B, Afrobeat, Soul, Dance, and Jazz.

    The beauty of Live at the Gantries is that it brings together the vibrant Queens community and showcases the incredible musical talent. It’s a celebration of diversity, culture, and the power of music to bring people together

    Gantry Plaza State Park sits on 12 acres of land and gives attendees a pristine view of the Manhattan skyline. The park provides the perfect venue to enjoy the sounds of live music as the sun sets over the Big Apple.

    AJOYO is a groovy mixture of jazz, electronic, and pop all grounded in strong West African rhythms. Spearheaded by Sarah Elizabeth Charles, Yacine Boulares, and Jesse Fischer, their unique sound is perfect for summer. 

    TUE, JUL 18, 7 PM: Bartlett Contemporaries

    Bartlett Contemporaries with the Uptown Funk Sound is a dynamic band influenced by the diverse sounds of Queens, NY. Their music often lies somewhere in the realm of hip-hop. Blending bebop, hip hop, dance and more to create a sound that is both timeless and fresh. 

    TUE, JUL 25, 7 PM: Afro Dominicano

    Afro Dominicano infuses their songs with a captivating Afro-Caribbean soul. Incorporating Dominican styles with African elements, Afro Domincano produces music that encapsulates both the diversity and collectivity of NYC.

    TUE, AUG 1, 7 PM: Linda EPO’s Ensemble New Yorkino

    Growing up in Queens, New York City and Puebla City, Mexico Linda EPO’s voice has been greatly shaped by her cultural surroundings. As part of her career, Linda has been on a worldwide tour with the Grammy nominated Heritage Blues Orchestra.

    TUE, AUG 8, 7 PM: Michael Olatuja & Lagos Pepper Soup

    New York-based composer and bassist Michael Olatuja combines the sounds of Lagos, London, and New York City to create “cinematic Afrobeat”. One of the most innovative artists today, Olatuja has worked with the likes of Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, Shakira, and Angelique Kidjo. 

    TUE, AUG 15, 7 PM: Slavo Rican Assembly

    The Slavo Rican Assembly was founded by Jan Kus, a saxophonist and composer hailing from Slovenia and based in New York City. This seven-piece band combines Latin jazz scene with South Slavic musical heritage.

  • Raphael Saadiq And Tony! Toni! Toné! Stop At Radio City On New Tour

    Award-winning artist, writer, composer, and producer Raphael Saadiq recently revealed that he and Tony! Toni! Toné! would be returning to the Radio City Music Hall. The show is part of their new tour “Just Me & You”, which stops in New York on September 30.

    The Tony’s are known for being one of the most influential and successful R&B groups of all time. Composed of brothers Raphael Saadiq and D’wayne Wiggins and their cousin Timothy Christian Riley, the Tonys have been making music since 1986. 

    The group found massive success early on in their career with the album Who?, which landed on Billboard’s “Top Pop Albums” chart. Four songs off of the album reached the R&B Top 10, including the hit “Little Walter”. Their biggest success would come in the form of their second project, The Revival. The album spawned several hits, the most notable being “Feels Good” which made its way into the Top 10 of the “Hot 100”. 

    The group began to explore their own individual pursuits after their final album House Of Music in 1996. Saadiq became a much sought after producer and writer, helping to create hit songs for the likes of D’Angelo and The Roots. He also released several of his own albums, including Instant Vintage and Ray Ray. 

    Tony! Toni! Toné! are set to perform some of the biggest and most monumental songs. The tour will also feature some of Saadiq’s most popular work, including some of the tracks he helped to make for Daniel Caesar, Brent Faiyaz, and Beyonce. Click here for more details and tickets.

  • Tubby’s Caps Off Summer Of Music With An Anniversary Celebration

    Part neighborhood bar and part underground music venue, Tubby’s has established itself as a must-stop destination for music lovers across New York. Located in Kingston, the bar has become a premier venue in the Hudson Valley. 

    Tubby’s has earned a reputation for highlighting both underground and well-known artists just about every night. Positioned roughly 100 miles North of NYC, the venue has developed into the perfect haven for acts leaving or entering the city. Past performers include Black Midi, Steve Gunn, Jeff Parker, MIKE, Protomartyr, Katy Kirby, and more.

    Tubby’s commitment to high-quality music means that there is always a wide assortment of genres, sounds, and styles represented on a weekly basis. This commitment goes further than just picking great acts. Owned and operated mostly by musicians, Tubby’s is also dedicated to treating artists with the utmost respect.

    This summer, the bar/venue will host well over 30 concerts. Some of the bands and artists performing are Joyce Manor, R.L. Boyce, Soul Glo, and Rose City Band.

    Even when the warm weather starts to fizzle out the music doesn’t stop at Tubby’s. The venue, originally founded in 2018, plans to celebrate its five-year anniversary in late September with a festival. “Tubby’s 5 Year Anniversary Weekend” will go down across three days, September 29 through October 1.

    The celebration includes a full roster of musicians from a wide variety of genres. Some of the artists who will perform as part of the festival include Armand Hammer, Bonnie Prince Billy, and billy woods. Click here for tickets and more details.

  • Waddington Summer Concert Series Brings Music To the St. Lawrence River

    The Waddington Concert Series returns for its 14th year with “Rollin’ on the River!” Over the last five years the series has treated over 15,000 attendees to high quality performances by artists from across the state. This summer’s series will feature eight performances with concerts taking place directly on the St. Lawrence River at Island View Park Pavilion.

    Waddington is located directly on the St. Lawrence River just along the US-Canada border. The town showcases some of the best sunsets in New York and has earned a reputation for its fishing and other wildlife opportunities. Surrounded by rolling fields, family farms, historic buildings, and dense forests, Waddington demonstrates the best of the North Country.

    “Rollin’ on the River!” runs every Friday at 6:30 from July 7 to August 25 and is free to the public, however donations are always accepted. Attendees can enjoy the show from the pavilion or float by in a boat.

    August 25: Northbound- a variety of pop, rock, and folk favorites from the last five decades

  • Music On The Green Returns To Saranac Lake

    Saranac Lake’s Music on the Green concert series is back for another year of summer programming. Located in the picturesque Adirondack Mountains, Saranac Lake has been hosting the concert series for a decade. 

    Music on the Green runs from July 5 through August 9 and takes place every Wednesday evening from 7pm to 9pm. All the concerts are held at Riverside Park and are free to the public. The series aims to shine a spotlight on Saranac Lake’s downtown and arts scene. 

    Since its inception in 2013, Music on the Green has brought 60 different music groups from various genres to the mountains. This year artists from all over New York and Vermont will make their way to Saranac Lake to share offerings of rock, jazz, soul, country, and more.

    July 5: Los Blancos- a roots and blues group from Syracuse 

    July 12: Fenimore Blues- a blues and rock outfit based out of Saratoga Springs

    July 19: Freight- an Ithaca alt-country group 

    July 26: Mo’ Mojo- a zydeco band looking to channel the spirit of New Orleans 

    August 2: High & Mighty Brass Band- a groovy Brooklyn jazz brass ensemble with hints of hip-hop

    August 9: Mal Maïz- Vermont musicians with a unique take Cumbia and other Latin sounds

  • The Brewster Summer Music Series Is Back For A Third Year

    The third annual Brewster Summer Music Series returns with seven straight weeks of programming. Organized by the Town of Southeast Cultural Arts Coalition (CAC), the concerts will run every Wednesday from June 14 through July 26. 

    All of the performances will take place at the Veterans Park Gazebo in Brewster. The concerts will also feature contests, raffles, and food. The artists performing come from a diverse set of genres including rock, pop, jazz, and more.

    CAC is a non-profit group that aims to create and preserve the cultural arts of the Town of Southeast and nearby communities. Along with the Summer Music Series, the organization is also involved with a space to showcase local art and the renovation of Southeast’s Old Town Hall. 

    Brewster is a village located in southeast Putnam County and is part of the town of Southeast. The village made a name for itself as it was a prominent stop on the railroad line that ran from New York City.

    The Brewster Summer Music Series is free and open to members of the public. Details and more information is on the website.

  • ‘PB&J’ Brings Great Blues and Jazz to Plattsburgh All Summer 

    Plattsburgh Blues and Jazz will host some of the biggest and most recognizable voices in blues this summer. It all starts on June 17 when Dawn Tyler Watson and Curtis Salgado visit downtown-venue Retro Live. Then, on July 7, Grammy-nominated blues and funk artist Sugaray Rayford will perform at The Strand Center for the Arts. 

    Plattsburgh Blues and Jazz

    Both events are put on by Plattsburgh Blues and Jazz (PB&J), a non-profit organization that looks to promote and cultivate the arts and music scene in the Plattsburgh area. PB&J has brought the likes of Kenny Neal, Southern Avenue, John Nemeth, and Vanessa Collier to shores of Lake Champlain.

    Curtis Salgado 

    Salgado has established himself as one of the most notable and respected blues musicians in the world. Salgado has featured in several influential and important blues groups including The Nighthawks, The Robert Cray Band, and Roomful of Blues. He has won multiple awards including Soul/Blues Album of the Year at the 2019 Blues Music Awards for his album “Damage Control”. Salgado was also nominated for a Grammy in 2018 for Best Traditional Blues Album. 

    Sugaray Rayford

    Sugaray Rayford is an American blues artist who has found the perfect balance between jazz, soul, funk, R&B, and of course blues. Rayford began singing in his local church at the age of 7, by 15 he was already the lead singer of San Diego band. His project Somebody Save Me was nominated for a Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Album. He’s also won three Blues Music Awards, including B.B. King Entertainer of the Year.
