This summer, Tupper Lake, located a few miles west of Lake Placid, announces the return of its Summer Sunset Stage Concert Series, featuring two free concert events on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Tupper Lake makes up the Tri-Lakes region along with nearby Saranac Lake and Lake Placid, located in Franklin County. The village was the top lumber producer in New York State, first settled during the town’s lumber production period in 1844.
Since 1976, Tupper Lake has been celebrating the artists and artisans that make up the small community. Before Tupper Arts, there was the Tupper Lake arts council, then named Tupper Lake Presents. It was re-established as a community entity in 2018 when Tupper Arts Vice President Louise McNally helped plan the re-launch. Tupper Arts have grown and set up a year-round programming tradition involving the community, providing easy access to the arts.
This summer, Tupper Lake brings back the weekly live music events to the Tupper Lake Sunset Stage on Mill Street in Flanders Park, starting around 7 p.m. and ending by 8:45.

July 4- Michael Shofi, Brock Gonyea, and Folkfaces
Kicking off the series is Michael Shofi, a 25-year-old singer-songwriter living in Astoria, Queens, specializing in nature-based indie, folk music. Since he was a child, he spent the summers in Tupper Lake and is so glad to be sharing his music with the community. Brock Gonyea is a singer and songwriter from Tupper Lake with a classic country sound. Finally, Folkfaces is a New York state-based roots music quartet that plays a mix of original and traditional music, driven by songwriter and frontman, Tyler Westcott (Vocals, Guitar, Banjo, Harmonica, Kazoo) who founded the band in 2011. The lineup changes from time to time, currently including multi-instrumentalist and fiddler Brendan Gosson, upright bass player, Patrick Jackson, and percussionist Dan Schwach on drumkit and washboard.
The Big Takeover is a seven-piece New York band, fronted by the charismatic Jamaican-born singer and songwriter Nee Nee Rushie. They play original music that is rooted in the genres and rhythms of Jamaican pop: reggae, rocksteady, and ska while bringing in the spirit of Motown.
July 17- The Altered Tones
The Altered Tones is a four-piece band out of Long Lake consisting of guitar, bass, and drums playing a mix of acoustic and electric covers of classic alternative and rock songs.
July 24- Night School
Night School is a five-piece dance-rock band from Tupper Lake, performing some of the most popular dance hits from the past few decades and today, from The Beatles to Talking Heads, or from Rick James to The B-52’s.
July 31- Shakespeare in the Park: The Tempest
The Tempest is an abridged version of the Shakespeare classic by director Karen Lordi-Kirkham. This tale, one of Shakespeare’s most popular, involves magic, a deserted island, betrayal, comedy, and love. Performances run from July 28-Aug. 2 at various venues in the state. Aug. 7- Annie & The Hedonists
Annie & The Hedonists interprets the songs of the great female blues artists of the 20s, 30s, and 40s, including Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, Rosetta Tharpe, Ella Fitzgerald, and others while incorporating other styles like bluesy country, roots Americana, and western swing. The band is Annie Rosen on lead vocals, Jonny Rosen on guitar and vocals, Peter Davis on clarinet, tenor guitar, piano, and vocals, Don Young on bass and vocals, and Jerry Marotta on percussion/drums.
Aug. 14- An Evening with The Silks
The Silks are a true grit rock and roll band out of Providence, Rhode Island, winning two consecutive Boston Music Awards for “Blues Artist of the Year” in 2016 and 2017. The group is made up of frontman Tyler-James Kelly, Uncle Sam Jodrey on drums, Jonas Parmelee on bass, and Johnny Trama on rhythm and lead guitar.
Aug. 22- The Bob Stump Band
The Bob Stump Band highlights blues and Appalachian folk music, moving on to cover popular bluegrass, country, jazz standards, and rock music. The band features Bob Stump on guitar and vocals, Doug Moody on fiddle, Tom White on banjo, fiddle, and mandolin, and Roy Coates on the big bass.

July 12- New Horizons Swing Band
The New Horizons Swing Band is a part of New Horizons Bands of Northern New York, initiated by Roy Ernst, a professor at the Eastman School of Music. New Horizons was designed for seniors who wanted to learn an instrument or those who needed to restart their instrument, now an international organization. The Swing Band is made up of community members, many retired from a variety of backgrounds and careers.
July 19- Moment’s Notice
Moment’s Notice is a local, four-piece band with veteran musicians Karen Baker on keys, Mike Joyce on electric guitar/vocals, Dan Spada on electric bass/vocals, and Sadie Spada on lead vocals/percussion. They cover a wide range of genres including jazz, Latin, blues, rock, and country.
July 26- Rose & The Bros
Rose & The Bros is a group based out of Ithaca that specializes in Cajun and Zydeco music from South West Louisiana, including sweet vocal harmonies and a few crooning country classics in the mix. It started as a collective dream between Rosie Newton, internationally touring fiddle player and singer and banjo player Richie Stearns, eventually bringing in guitarist Paul Martin. The band is now complete with their rhythm section featuring Angelo Peters (leader of Big Mean Sound Machine), Greg Evans, and Sally Freund.
Aug. 2- The Midnight Stargazers
The Midnight Stargazers Cosmic Country Band is an entertaining four-piece acoustic band from Bloomingdale, NY. They play their own blend of original songs as well as many familiar classic country, country rock, and country folk tunes.
Aug. 9- Junction Jam
Junction Jam is a rock band quartet that plays music from the 60s through the 90s and will have you up dancing and singing while traveling back in time.
Aug. 16- Organ Fairchild
Organ Fairchild was created in 2020 by Jam scene mainstays Joe Bellanti, Corey Kertzie, and Dave Ruch. The trio met in 1983 as members of the Buffalo, NY, Grateful Dead cover band Wild Knights, and wrote their first original music together in 2020. They have individually played with Bob Weir, Rob Wasserman, Robbie Krieger (The Doors), Nels Cline, Tony Rice, moe., and more, and now create juicy jams and groovy tunes together.
Aug. 23- Larry Ham Quartet
Pianist, composer, and arranger Larry Ham is a veteran New York sideman, performing, touring, and recording with many great jazz artists. David Dupont of Cadence Jazz Magazine wrote, “He glides over the keys with each note articulated cleanly…his playing is masterful.”

Sphere Entertainment Co. and Live Nation has announced the heavily anticipated “U2:UV Achtung Baby Live At Sphere,” a first-of-its-kind live music experience, happening at the brand new Sphere at The Venetian in Las Vegas this fall. Due to high demand, the band has added additional shows, bringing the total number to 17.
The long-awaited confirmed dates of this special run come after U2 dropped a sneak peek in a Super Bowl commercial back in February. The dates at the Sphere mark the band’s first live outing in four years, with Bono and The Edge saying, “U2 hasn’t played live since December 2019 and we need to get back on stage and see the faces of our fans again. And what a unique stage they’re building for us out there in the desert… We’re the right band, ACHTUNG BABY the right album, and Sphere the right venue to take the live experience of music to the next level.”
The Sphere, curated by Madison Square Garden Entertainment, is becoming the next-generation entertainment medium, bringing wonder to the world and redefining the future of live entertainment, where artists, creators, and technologies will create extraordinary experiences, taking storytelling to a new level. The venue will transform the concert-going experience with innovative technologies that include a 16K x 16K LED display inside the main venue bowl that wraps up, over, and around the audience, creating a fully immersive visual environment. The Sphere also has the world’s most advanced concert audio system, featuring crystal-clear audio and 10,000 immersive seats including a system that utilizes deep vibrations so guests can feel the rumble of thunder or a roaring motorcycle.
The group went on to say that “Sphere is more than just a venue, it’s a gallery and U2’s music is going to be all over the walls.” The visuals are so integral to the performances, that The Edge has said this show will only happen at this venue, and the band cannot tour this show outside of that setting.
Acknowledged as one of the best live acts in the world, U2, formed in Dublin in 1978, has since toured the globe countless times, released 14 studio albums, sold over 170 million albums, and won numerous awards, including 22 Grammys and Amnesty International’s Ambassador of Conscience award. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005 and have twice been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song. U2 has consistently pushed the boundaries of live performance, with ground-breaking stage shows that embrace the latest in technology and innovation. Jess Jones is a free spirit born and raised in Esperance. She loves to borrow the picking styles of Paul Simon, James Taylor, and John Denver.
E.R.I.E. is a Capital region-based indie rock quartet. What began as a passion project developed by singer/songwriter TJ Foster has turned into a fully formed quartet, bringing energetic live shows to eager audiences. Their most recent album Suburban Mayhem is out now.
This weekend (May 12–May 14), Caroga Arts Collective will host its Spring Residency Concert Series, featuring world-class artists and a sneak peek at the Caroga Lake Music Festival summer 2023 lineup.
The Caroga Arts Collective announced the spring residency concerts, stopping at Gloversville, Cobleskill, and Little Falls. The Spring Residency concerts are completely free of charge, but donations are encouraged to support arts programming in the community. The mission of Caroga Arts Collective is to reimagine the Caroga experience through the power of the arts, founded in 2012 by Kyle Price when he invited friends to his grandmother’s house on Caroga Lake, where they presented a week of free concerts, calling themselves the Caroga Lake Music Festival (CLMF). Today, Caroga Arts presents over 50 performances and community events annually bringing world-class artists from various genres of music, visual art, poetry, and film to the Southern Adirondacks.
From Friday, May 12 to Sunday, May 14, Caroga Arts host its Spring Residency concerts, stopping first at Karpeles Museum in Gloversville at 7 p.m., the Cobleskill United Methodist Church at 7 p.m., and Rock Valley Brewing Co. in Little Falls at 1 p.m. As part of the organization’s commitment to music education, the musicians will also be visiting local schools in Johnstown, Wheelerville, and Broadalbin-Perth, to bring the joy and magic of music to the next generation. Thirty minutes before each performance, Founder and Artistic Director Kyle Price will give a season preview, sharing insider information about the upcoming Caroga Lake Music Festival lineup.

The New York State Fair has a stellar lineup of musicians coming this summer, including rapper and actor Ludacris performing on Thursday, Aug. 31 at the Suburban Park Stage.
Founded in 1832 by a group of local farmers for agriculture and local fairs, The Great New York State Fair did not become a musical showcase until the 1950s and 1960s, when the fair began gearing towards entertainment. Just announced, Ludacris will perform at the Fair along with a number of other great artists and bands. He will recently reprise his role as Tej in the Fast & Furious franchise’s newest film, Fast X, due out May 19. Beginning his career as a rapper, Ludacris has been nominated for twenty Grammy awards, winning three over the years including “Best Rap/Sung Collaboration” for the song “Yeah!” in 2005, and both “Best Rap Song” for “Money Maker” and “Best Rap Album” for Release Therapy in 2007.
He has sold more than 24 million albums worldwide, and spent a solid 15 years at the top of the charts for hits including “Stand Up,” “Get Back,” and “My Chick Bad.” More recently, Ludacris created the Netflix animated series Karma’s World, geared toward children ages six to nine years old, following the story of a young Black girl who is finding her voice and using it to change the world. “Ludacris has as much heart as he does star power, and we’re really lucky to be able to have him join us this summer,” said Interim Fair Director Sean Hennessey. “We think fairgoers will be excited too! Recently, feedback from fairgoers has indicated to us that they’d like to see us book more rap artists, and we’re happy to deliver! When you think about music and pop culture going back to the early 2000s, Ludacris has been a part of so many moments.”
The Aug. 31 performance will be his second appearance at the NYS Fair, playing to more than 30,000 people at Chevy Court in 2018. The Fair starts Wednesday, August 23, and continues through Labor Day, Monday, September 4. All concerts within the Chevrolet Music Series are free with admission to the Fair.
The New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) announced that for the year 2024, the budget allocation is $110 million, as well as additional grants reaching $127 million to organizations and artists, and capital project funding.

The New York State Council on the Arts is dedicated to preserving and expanding the rich and diverse cultural resources that are and will become the heritage of New York’s citizens. This year the NYSCA awarded more than 3,600 direct grants, and $90 million to support the visual, performing, literary and media arts, arts education, and more. Governor Kathy Hochul just announced over $42 Million in awards for Small and Mid-Sized Capital Project grants.
Strengthening our creative sector increases tourism, boosts our economy, and enhances the rich heritage and cultural life of New York State. These record grants will support a wide range of diverse and innovative projects at our arts and cultural organizations across the state, helping ensure all who visit will continue to have wonderful experiences for years to come.

Among those who received a grant award for Small and Mid-Sized Capital Projects, Central New York, more specifically Oneida, had a generous amount given to them. The projects include $1.2 million towards the Artspace Utica Lofts, 41 affordable one and two-bedroom live/work artist units, along with a 3,000-square-foot community workspace located in the Commercial and Arts & Cultural Districts downtown, and $300,000 towards the Children’s Museum of History, Natural History, and Science for Final Construction and Capital Systems Components of Final Museum Construction Phase. For the 2024 year, the NYSCA will allocate $110 million to support the sector as it is a very important year for the arts as the bounce back from the COVID pandemic continues every day. The total funding for grants is $127 million, $90 million in grantmaking to organizations and artists, and $37 million in capital project funding. Annie Scherer-“Everywhere I Go ( Everybody’s the Same)”
Annie Scherer is a Voorheesville native, merging her love of rock ‘n roll classics with her passion for alternative music to produce her own unique sound. Her emotional lyrics and haunting melodies have been heard live from New York to Tennessee, releasing her first full-length album Garden Bed in March 2021.
10:01-“Flying Home”
Formed in Averill Park, NY, 10:01 is an alternative rock group that combines a modern indie sound with influences of blues and rock. Their new single “Flying Home” is out now.
The Sugar Hold are indie surf rock band based in Schenectady. Fairly new to the scene, they are known for their hard-partying ways and their funny off-the-wall songs and lyrics.
Open to the public for the first time, the Hudson Valley Meadowlark Festival is set to take place from Sept. 8-10 at Stone Ridge Orchard & Farmers Market in Stone Ridge, NY, featuring some of the most storied names in Americana, indie rock, and experimental music.
Meadowlark Festival is a curated three-day experience celebrating American roots and independent music. This year the festival is open to the public, last year it was an invite-open event, featuring Mississippi bluesman RL Boyce and NYC singer/songwriter Jeffrey Lewis, among others. The venue is the picturesque Stone Ridge Orchard, operating for the past 200 years as a productive, diversified farm, raising a wide variety of sustainably-grown gourmet fruits and vegetables on 115 scenic rolling acres. The performance site will be under the shade of the farm’s iconic nearly 400-year-old oak tree, the jewel of Stone Ridge, next to a stand of some of the oldest apple trees in the region.
Meadowlark producer Daniel Leslie, who hails from the Hudson Valley region, graduated from Vassar College, and now resides in Brooklyn, describes its inspiration, “This grew out of a vision shared with some of my musician friends about blending traditional and experimental music in a special, secluded setting,” he said. “The Hudson Valley is such an epicenter of music culture, it’s the perfect setting for this type of experience we wanted to create that blends traditional music with an edgier counterculture vibe.” Besides music, the festival will feature many food trucks and vendors, from fresh produce from farmers’ markets to homemade cider donuts.
Saturday, Sept. 8, features New York singer-songwriter, harpist, and guitarist Lizzie No, one of the most exciting new voices in contemporary Americana music. Her 2017 debut album Hard Won was hailed as “simultaneously understated and fervent” by Billboard Magazine, and her 2019 album Vanity was a hit at college radio stations across the country, cracking the NACC Top Adds Chart. She is currently working on her third studio album, and this summer she joins the Basic Folk podcast team as guest cohost. Also featured is Brooklyn-based indie pop artist beccs, hailed as one of NYLON Magazine’s “favorite cool girls,” and Massachusetts-based singer-songwriter Cloudbelly, aka Corey Laitman. Accompanied by a rotating cast of inspired instrumentalists and friends, Laitmain makes music that includes poetic lyricism, stirring vocals, and a disarming stage presence.

Saturday, Sept. 9 features a wide array of artists, including headliners Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. The band is led by Alec Ounsworth, described by Pitchfork as, “musically adventurous… melodic, exuberant indie rock…” After nearly two decades Ounsworth remains one of music’s most distinctive voices. Jolie Holland has knotted together a century of American song, from jazz to blues, to soul, to rock and roll, into an indescribable sound. Taking inspiration from the likes of Mavis Staples or Al Green, her voice is immediately booming and gritty.
Continuing, Saturday also includes Chris Staples, who has garnered over a million streams on Spotify, creating indie rock music for the past 25 years. Ending the day is Hudson Valley’s own Babehoven. Maya Bon, the singer-songwriter behind the band, writes about the confusing and jarring aspects of life with emotional vulnerability, collaborating with producer Ryan Albert.

The final day of the festival on Sunday features Grammy-nominated quartet Devotchka, described by the NY Times as “striking… attention-grabbing.” Formed in Denver by multi-instrumentalists Nick Urata (vocals, guitar, trumpet), Tom Hagerman (violin, accordion), Jeanie Schroder (sousaphone, bass), and percussionist Shawn King, Devotchka infuses modern indie music with a global flavor. Also featured is Chris Smither, described by the Associated Press as one of the absolute best singer-songwriters in the world, filling concert venue after concert venue with eager fans waiting to hear his electrifying folk and blues tunes.
Other performers on the final day include genre-defying New Orleans hard rockers Quintron & Miss Pussycat, creating 14 full-length records over the past 15 years that have the psychedelic soul of traditional New Orleans party music. Finally, Boston-based blues guitarist Ryan Lee Crosby performs, described by Aquarium Drunkard as “sometimes light and free-flowing, sometimes intense and heavy.” Other acts are to be announced.

The 2023 Tony Awards will air live on Sunday, June 11, from the historic United Palace in Washington Heights in New York City from 8-11 p.m., hosted by Ariana DeBose. The awards are bestowed upon theatre professionals for their high achievements. It is one of the most coveted awards in the entertainment industry and one of the most prestigious award ceremonies on television. Legitimate theatrical productions opening in any of the 41 eligible Broadway theatres during the current season may be considered for Tony nominations, voted in 26 competitive categories by 769 designated Tony voters within the theatre community.
Joel Grey and John Kander will each receive the 2023 Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre. Launching his career in the 1950s, Joel Grey has made an everlasting impact as an actor and director, from Cabaret, for which he received the Academy Award, the Golden Globe, and the BAFTA for his performance as the Emcee, to Goodtime Charley, The Normal Heart and his acclaimed Yiddish production of Fiddler on the Roof. He is also one of only nine actors to have won both the Tony and Academy Awards for the same role. John Kander grew up around music, playing the piano when he was four, and seeing musicals by age ten. As part of the songwriting team Kander and Fred Ebb, Kander wrote the scores for 15 musicals, including Cabaret and Chicago, both of which were later adapted into acclaimed films.

Highlights from the 2023 Tony Awards nominees include the first nonbinary actors to be nominated: J. Harrison Ghee and Alex Newell. The musical Some Like It Hot, a theatrical remake of the 1959 Billy Wilder movie musical, garnered 13 Tony nominations, the most in this season. Ghee plays the leading role of Jerry in Some Like It Hot, a man who disguises himself as a woman and then comes to realize parts of both identities suit,and Newell plays the featured, female role of Lulu in Shucked. The nominations also highlighted three plays that have won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama: Between Riverside and Crazy, Cost of Living, and Fat Ham. Tom Stoppard’s new play about the Holocaust, Leopoldstadt, received the most nominations at six. The Atlantic Theatre Company in New York City came out with eight nominations for Kimberly Akimbo.

Four-time Grammy award-winning and diamond-certified rock band Aerosmith announced the PEACE OUT! Farewell Tour, stopping at various New York cities, including Belmont Park, Buffalo, and New York City.
For the last 50 years, rock legends Aerosmith have toured extensively and have sold 150 million records worldwide. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers have produced genre-defining music videos such as “Amazing,” “Crazy,” “Janie’s Got A Gun,” “Livin’ On The Edge,” and “Love In An Elevator,” as well as becoming the first rock band with a massive commercially successful hip-hop collaboration with Run DMC on “Walk This Way,” and the first hard rock band to appear during a Super Bowl Halftime Show with their 2001 performance.
In a joint statement, Aerosmith shared, “It’s not goodbye it’s PEACE OUT! Get ready and walk this way, you’re going to get the best show of our lives.” Along with the tour announcement, the band shared that drummer Joey Kramer will not be joining the group for the final run, saying “While Joey Kramer remains a beloved founding member of Aerosmith, he has regrettably made the decision to sit out the currently scheduled touring dates to focus his full attention on his family and health. Joey’s unmistakable and legendary presence behind the drum kit will be sorely missed.”
The special guest for the tour is The Black Crowes, a rock group that has gone through their fair share since changing how journalists felt about hard rock with their record Shake Your Money Maker. In 1990 they topped Rolling Stone’s “Best New American Band Readers Poll,” going on to release eight studio and four live albums, selling in the tens of millions along the way, and sold out tours around the world. In addition, the band had legendary guitarist Jimmy Page join as a member, got kicked off a tour with ZZ Top for insulting the sponsor, got screwed by bad record deals, and more.
The monumental 40-date farewell tour includes stops at UBS Arena in Belmont Park on Saturday, Sept. 9, KeyBank Center in Buffalo on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2024, and Madison Square Garden on Friday, Jan. 19, 2024. The band will be collaborating with THX, bringing their Certified Live! high-fidelity experience on the road, calibrating each arena with leading-edge audio technology.
