  • Young The Giant Announces North American Tour With Milky Chance In New York

Multi-platinum selling artist Young The Giant has announced a 2023 summer tour along with rock band, Milky Chance, making across the United States and Canada beginning May 30th in Montreal. In New York, you can catch the tour at Manhattan’s iconic Rooftop at Pier 17 and Niagara County’s Artpark. The tour will also feature special guests TALK and Rosa Linn.

The summer tour follows the release of American Bollywood, Young The Giant’s first album in four years. Established in 2004, the band showcases vocalist Sameer Gadhia, guitarist Jacob Tilley and Eric Cannata, Francois Comtois on the drums and bass player Payam Doostzadeh. American Bollywood was co-produced by John Hill and members of Young The Giant.

The four-part album can be enjoyed here via AWAL/Jungle Youth Records. With a majority of the lyrics written by the band’s lead singer with Indian ancestry, Sameer Gadhia, the album tells the multi-generational saga of the American immigrant, and the origins, exiles, battles, and denouement of reclaiming their collective identity. “This is not just the story of an Indian-American caught in between two worlds,” the band’s Sameer Gadhia previously said, “it’s also our universal search to find meaning in chaos.”

“Epic doesn’t even begin to describe American Bollywood. Seismic in scope and intimate in nature, Young the Giant’s fifth studio album is a massive artistic statement; it’s the band’s most ambitious and sprawling project of their career”

    – Atwood Magazine

The album is a classic Jon Spencer taken to the extreme, it emphasizes a sound of electro-boogie, constructivist art pop, a psychedelic swamp of industrial sleaze and futurist elegance. The album is recognized as an epic master work of freak beat from the world’s weirdest garage.

Spencer Gets It Lit features mind-boggling layers of fury, fuzz guitar a crash-bang battery of phaser blasts and photon torpedoes. Jon Spencer is the ultimate performer; he frantically spits, croons, rhapsodizes, and seduces. The album is his most complex and sensational album in years. It is a dark, danceable odyssey, and a celebration of the place where electricity meets the mind.

Jon Spencer and the Hitmakers are here to crank it up and blow our pants off, … Anyone who has the chance to see this current ensemble, must do so immediately. Peppered with rarities, Blues Explosion songs, even Pussy Galore cuts, Spencer was a bewitching figure on stage, ripping through all the tracks with raw grit and fury

  • Tours of Historic Kings Theatre in Brooklyn Make a Smashing Comeback

Kings Theatre, located in Brooklyn New York is proud to announce their Historic Tour events will be making a comeback. Tour dates are scheduled for February 18 and March 11 at 1pm. An introduction of a weekday tour will be taking place on March 21 at 7pm.

    Kings Theatre Tour

Kings Theater built in 1929 as one of the five original Loew’s Wonder Theaters . The Theater was originally a movie palace live performance venue featuring vaudeville reviews. The 20th century movie palace was inspired by the French Renaissance Revival style of the Palace of Versailles and the Paris Opera House. What we now know as Kings Theater became stagnant after its closing in 1979 until undergoing restoration in 2013. In 2015, the theater was officially opened as Kings Theatre with a debut performance by the amazing Dianna Ross. Kings Theatre is now recognized as a cultural and economic cornerstone of the Flatbush community and a magnificent addition to Brooklyn’s spirited cultural landscape.

During the 75 minute tour, expect to be educated on the historical and architectural highlights from knowledgeable tour guides. For example, guests will learn about the baroque stylings of this luxurious theater, the “Queen of Kings”, the Robert Morgan Wonder Organ, and become informed on the theater’s daily workings.Starting in the resplendent grand lobby, guests will travel through ornate speakeasy lounges and both levels of the 3,055-seat auditorium.

    Kings Theatre Tour

Under the management of Ambassador Theatre Group, Kings Theatre now portrays a variation of world class programming that includes live music, stand-up comedy, theatrical and literary events in addition to hosting film shoots and even private events. Guests will have the option of enhancing their experience to include two drinks and access to one of the theaters private speakeasies for a post tour destination. • Tragedy Announce New Album “I Am Woman,” Tour with Steel Panther and Crobot

Tragedy, one of New York’s most elite tribute bands and creators of disco metal, have announced the release of their newest album, I Am Woman, available on March 3. The album serves as a testimonial to celebrate womanhood in all forms, capturing the spirit of metal classics while providing a fresh take on some of the world’s most timeless classics of empowerment, independence and self-love.

Tragedy will be teaming up with Steel Panther and Crobot on their upcoming US tour. The tour will start in Las Vegas, beginning February 24. Then, starting April 18th, the band will continue on to their co-headline European tour alongside fellow comedy metal icons Nanowar of Steel.

If you’ve heard The Pointer Sisters’, “I’m So Excited”, you are in for a special treat. Tragedy will be showcasing their metal take on this classic anthem. Follow the band’s journey starting from their Cara Maria O’Shea-directed music video to their Halftime Show performance at the Big Bank SuperDuper Dome. You’ll find it impossible to contain yourself as you rock out to the metallized version of this iconic track with half-timed grooves, squealing solos and energetic vocals.

Anita Pointer sadly passed away very recently, and this is our tribute to her and her sisters’ impact on music, as well as, of course, their everlasting and unbridled enthusiasm for ‘pleasures in the night’ on this track. The song is about the building, burning anticipation of impending carnal satisfaction. The heart races, hormones surge – gratification is imminent! In the video, the “excited” band members pack themselves into the family minivan, then play the Halftime Show at the Big Bank SuperDuper Dome – an event viewed live by over 700 Billion people worldwide!

Mo’Royce Peterson on “I’m So Excited”

Tragedy has had a glitter-encrusted grip on the entertainment world since they emerged in the early 2010’s. Performing several albums of metalized disco, soft rock and pop covers in the USA, UK, Germany, France, Switzerland, etc, has shown the world that Tragedy is no ordinary tribute band. The group of six fully embodies the soul of original pieces and infuses tracks with an undeniably infectious energy that can be felt by all listeners. Although the band’s unique style causes the implication of misbehavior, witnessing a live performance will open your eyes to the band’s true overarching message. It is one of carefree joy, humanity, acceptance and the simple pursuit of a damn good time. Their latest album, “I Am Woman”, can be preordered here.

  • The Gibson Brothers to Perform at Glens Falls Park Theatre in February

On February 2, The Gibson brothers will be performing in Glens Falls at the Park Theatre in support of their impending album Darkest Hour

    The Gibson Brothers

Darkest Hour, produced by Jerry Douglas varies from trad-grass to country-soul, electric guitars and drums. Eric and Leigh Gibson build a connection with their audience by taking universally known truths/ feelings and infusing them into impeccable bluegrass, country, and Americana songs. The album features Eric and Leigh Gibson vocals and guitar, along with Mike Barber on the bass, Justin Moses playing the mandolin, and Eamon McGloughlin on the fiddle. Additionally, John Gardner, who plays drums and Guthrie Trapp, who rocks an electric guitar, were later added on some tracks.

The Gibson brothers are exceptional artists that capture the soul of country music. There’s a reason why the phenomenal Ricky Skaggs offered the brothers to produce a country record two decades ago. Country Music Hall of Famer, Tom T. Hall has always been a loyal supporter through encouraging their writing, and predicting success.

The brothers built their status by winning an abundance of bluegrass awards, released albums on almost every premier Americana label including Sugar Hill and Rounder. Their songs have also been recorded  by bluegrass legends such as Del McCoury. Despite their success, The Gibson Brothers are not yet household names. Although, their remarkable resume and latest album, Darkest Hour could change that. Tickets can be found here.

  • Black History Month Step Show returns to the Palace Theatre in February

On February 9, TD Bank’s Price Chopper Black History Month Step Show, will be presenting some of the best steps teams from the Capital Region and more. You can catch the show at 5pm inside of Albany’s Palace Theatre. This annual event will be full of high energy, rhythmic performers and should not be missed

    Step Show Palace

Stepping is a historical form of art that keeps the memories of enslaved ancestors alive. When stepping, the body is used as an instrument through a combination of foot stomps, claps and words. In the 1800s, African American railroad workers stepped to uplift their spirits during their inhuman treatment.  Since speaking was prohibited at times, African Americans communicated through step. Their movements created a tune that told the story of their pain and sorrow. Today this tradition is continued by millions of people throughout and widely popular within sororities/ fraternities. More information about stepping can be found here.

The euphonious and capturing sound of step is something that needs to be fully appreciated. Through rapid movement and split second changes, you can tell how much time and energy is placed into the choreography. The movement is so alluring that it not only appeals to the eyes and ears but as well as the soul. With each foot stomp you can feel the vibrations run through your body. The entertainment will leave you wanting to learn more about these organizations and their history. This program and others like it offer participants not only a creative outlet, but also a chance to be a part of something bigger than themselves.

Tickets can be found here. Tickets are also available for purchase at the Palace Theatre Box Office, located at 19 Clinton Ave. Box Office hours are Monday through Friday 12pm to 5PM.

  • Van Norton Family Foundation Selects ESYO as First Grant Recipient

Schenectady’s Empire State Youth Orchestra (ESYO) have announced that they’ve received a grant of $22,000 from the Van Norton Family Foundation, going towards the CHIME program.

Heather Manthey, Van Norton Family Foundation President and Co-Founder is driven by her mother’s benevolence. She says, “Our Foundation has a three-part mission: to support qualifying organizations that promote the interests of children, assist with the mental and physical health of individuals in our community, and advance the arts.” After researching ESYO, it wasn’t long before Manthey knew that she had found her perfect choice.

Founded in 1979, ESYO is a non-profit organization that is widely known as a premier music education/performance program for youth and has received three ASCAP awards.

The Empire State Youth Orchestra plans to use their stupendous gift to support their CHIME program. Creating Harmony Inspiring Musical Excellence was launched in 2015 to address fundamental inequities preventing universal access to high level music opportunities for youth. Today it is a free after-school program for grades k-12, that empowers youth to develop a strong sense of personal identity and community through ensemble-based music instruction.

The Amplify Our Voice initiative provides the youth of CHIME  with a safe place to process deep emotion, explore shared experiences, and amplify their voices to the world. Through reflection, improvisation, and experimentation, the youth of CHIME create an original, multi-level composition in partnership with a guest arranger. This year’s theme, chosen by students, is “Stop Violence & Show Kindness,”. They will be collaborating with composer Adrian Gordon. The CHIME Proctors Orchestra recently performed Gordon’s piece “A Hero’s Journey.”

Currently, in support of their CHIME program, ESYO has received a total of $105,000 from regional and national Foundations. Funders, Rea Charitable Trust, Review Foundation, Carnegie Hall PlayUSA, Barry Alan Gold Memorial Fund,D’Addario Foundation, Henry M. Butzel Foundation, Seymour Fox Foundation and Price Chopper Golub Foundation have all made gracious donations. For more information, visit esyo.org.
