New-age music group Mannheim Steamroller will return to the Stanley Theatre in Utica for a great holiday tradition in December.
The group, founded by Chip Davis, will celebrate more than 35 years of its annual Christmas concert tour. Audiences can expect Mannheim Steamroller to play their popular renditions of classic hits to ring in the holiday season. The show at the Stanley Theatre will begin at 7 p.m. on December 7.
With multimedia effects, live music, and joyous songs, the concert is sure to put all listeners in the perfect mood to lead up to the holiday season. The Grammy award-winning group is a favorite holiday tradition for many and released its first Christmas album in 1984.
I remember when I came out with my first Christmas album in 1984 followed by our first tour. Back then, many in the music industry said focusing on Christmas just wouldn’t work. Now, over 35 years later, we are still going strong. I want to thank our fans for making us part of their holiday tradition, especially after the hardships of the last few years. Today we often see multi-generational families join us during the holidays each year.

Mannheim Steamroller’s holiday tour begins on November 15 and ends on December 30. The group will also stop in Syracuse and Poughkeepsie on December 8 and 14, respectively. Tickets for the upcoming holiday show at the Stanley Theatre are available now via Ticketmaster.
On Friday, July 29, indie and alternative R&B artist Charlie Burg released his newest single, “Ohh! Sumthin’ New” from his upcoming debut album, Infinitely Tall, out on August 19.

The artist was born in Detroit, Michigan but previously studied at Syracuse University’s Setnor School of Music, and is now based out of Brooklyn. His upcoming album, Infinitely Tall, takes place across three spaces: Burg’s childhood home in Detroit, his beloved college house in Syracuse, and finally his experiences in NYC.
In the single, “Ohh! Sumthin’ New,” Burg explores the story of a character yearning for fresh and authentic experiences. With upbeat instrumentation and lyrics which critically examine the world around him, the track entices while simultaneously offering deeper meaning.
Of the track, Burg shares that it “celebrates and laments the rootlessness of youth … the world of social media makes the protagonist feel like a poser and a fraud, mostly because of how much they subscribe to and partake in its evils. The protagonist desperately wants a change of pace, which is ironic in the face of their desire for solid ground to stand on.”

With soft vocals and acoustic guitar suddenly transformed by the sounds of electric guitar,”Ohh! Sumthin’ New” takes listeners through a whirlwind. Burg incorporates unexpected backing vocals, sounds, and lyrics to keep you guessing and embodies the phrase “a change of pace.”
Burg’s previous releases, including “Channel Orange in Your Living Room” and “I Don’t Wanna Be Okay Without You,” garnered him much attention, but his upcoming release marks a new shift in sound and ambition for the artist. The young 25-year-old expands on his previous works and leaves nothing behind in this new record.

Salt City Summerfest will blanket downtown Syracuse for Artsweek, the last week of July, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. from Tuesday July 26th through Saturday July 30th, a great opportunity for those seeking dining and culture in Central New York.
This year, due to popular demand, the second “Salt City Summerfest” will join Artsweek with pop up performances of all kinds. Every downtown sidewalk and patio dining area will be visited by performers of all kinds as an element of Artsweek, which also includes the Arts and Crafts Festival, the Northeast Jazz and Wine Festival.
The pop-up festival is made possible for its second year due to the title sponsorship of Countryside Federal Credit Union as well as public support from Senator Rachel May, Assembly Member Al Stirpe, and other downtown stakeholders.

Salt City Summerfest brings a national act in residence for the first time. Ricky Alexander, a New York City neo-swing musician, brings his quintet to perform at noon on Wednesday July 27th in Perseverance Park, then follows that with a 5:30 p.m. show on the Marriot Downtown patio. They will stroll through downtown the next evening. Other festival artists include groups playing in diverse styles, modern dance by Syracuse Ballet, and the Acappella Fellas. The two patio locations, at the Marriott and Salt City Market, will allow for stationary, continuous concerts with dining available.

Fox Fest has announced its 2022 lineup which will kick off August 6th. Fox Fest is a great opportunity to enjoy the summer by relaxing, listening to great music, eating great food, and socializing.
A non-profit outdoor music event located at the home of George and Dodi Ryan, in Syracuse, Fox Fest will host music performed by 8-10 local bands, an attractive venue and food sold by Limp Lizard and the Spud Shack.

Supporting different charities for 14 years, Fox Fest is benefiting the KEYS program this year. The KEYS Program a nonprofit organization that has been delivering smiles since 1993 by providing award-winning music therapy outreach, family respite days and sibling support programs to kids battling cancer and those in need of healing.
Fox Fest is funded by the generous donations of local sponsors and attendees. A $30 donation upon entry is the cost for the day, and patrons can donate prior to July 10th and receive a free shirt. Pre-sale forms are located at Tanner Valley Golf Course, Limp Lizard in Western Lights and Franks Moondance.
Along with the music event, there is also free camping on site. Sites are first come, first serve. There is plenty of room for everyone to RV, Pop-Up, tent, or pass out under the stars.

Sir Paul McCartney returned to Syracuse on Saturday, June 4th to open up the first concert at the JMA Wireless Dome (formerly Carrier Dome). With a near full capacity crowd of over 35,000 in attendance, Paul McCartney was ready to rock Syracuse with a nearly three hour set.
With mounting anticipation, the show began around 8:20 p.m., as Paul McCartney took the stage to a massive roar of applause alongside his backing band which included Brian Ray, Rusty Anderson, Paul Wickens, and Abe Laboriel, Jr. Seeming to really take in the Syracuse welcome, McCartney walked around the stage briefly waving to the crowd and smiling before putting his hand up into the air behind the mic and kicking off the set with The Beatles classic, “Can’t Buy Me Love.”
Throughout the set, fans were treated to his versatility in playing multiple instruments which included piano, bass, guitar, and ukulele. When McCartney wasn’t singing or playing an instrument, he engaged the audience with stories and memories with other members of the Beatles.
The concert featured tons of Beatles hits, including “Lady Madonna”, “You Never Give Me Your Money”, “Blackbird.” The energy of the crowd only grew as the set progressed later into the evening with the audience singing popular tunes, “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da” and “Get Back.” Continuing on with some of the biggest hits including “Band on the Run” into a sing along of “Let it Be” followed by a fiery display of pyrotechnics and fireworks during “Live and Let Die.”
The climax of the performance this evening was during “Hey Jude” when the entire audience sung along for several minutes to the “Na na na Na Na Na Na!” This was one of the most amazing experiences to be a part of with just a feeling of unity among everyone, especially given vast struggles currently in the world.
Paul McCartney left the stage saying goodnight, however not many people were so easily convinced that he was done. As if his 30-song set wasn’t enough, the band returned to the stage with thundering applause waving the Ukranian Flag, UK Flag, Pride Flag, and New York Flag.
With a massive 6-song encore that included favorites such as “I’ve Got a Feeling” which McCartney performed essentially a duet with John Lennon. The screens broadcast footage of Lennon performing on a rooftop from Peter Jackson’s “Get Back” documentary, which sounded as if he were on stage performing right there with Paul and synched perfectly. Finishing out the encore with “Helter Skelter”, “Golden Slumbers”, “Carry That Weight”, and ending with the fitting Beatle song “The End.” Paul McCartney delivered what many can consider the greatest concert they have ever seen.
Being able to witness the inspiration for just about all modern music was awe-inspiring. Paul McCartney has a way about him that just commands your attention, and the performance he continues to give over a 60-year career as he pushes 80 years old cements his legacy as an all time great. This was truly a unifying and magical music experience that I would recommend anyone to see if given the chance.

Eli Young Band kicked up some dust bringing their Love Talking Tour to Sharkey’s in Syracuse. The multi-platinum country four man band sang their number one hits from the past two decades and fans also got to enjoy their brand new single, “Break Up In a Bar.” In addition the song will be featured on the bands sixth upcoming studio album, LoveTalking, set to release on June 3, 2022.

The Denton, Texas band was formed while members attended college together and is composed by Mike Eli (lead singer, guitar), Jon Jones (bass guitar), James Young (guitar) and Chris Thompson (drummer).
Whether you’re a crazy girl or you got a little drunk that night, the Eli Young Band always delivers all the love songs. Energy radiated from the stage and was felt by the crowd as they sang and danced the night away. One of the most notable performances of the evening was their cover of “Come Together” by the Beatles. After two hours of relentless hits the band closed the show out with a personal favorite of mine, Guinevere.

Syracuse University’s Carrier Dome will finally change its name after 43 years. The venue’s naming rights will go to JMA Wireless, a local technology company.

The famed Central New York stadium got its name after Carrier Global Corporation made a $2.75 million donation in 1979, the year before it opened, in exchange for naming rights in perpetuity. The University and Carrier decided to end their partnership this month, nearly two decades since Carrier closed to production plants in Syracuse after laying off more than 1,200 workers in 2003.
In addition to numerous sporting events, the Carrier Dome has also hosted many well know musicians and concerts. Some of the most notable acts that performed there include Prince in 1985, Billy Joel in 2015, and Paul McCartney in 2017. The former Beatles front man is scheduled to perform at the Carrier Dome again on June 4 of this year.
Prince’s performance at the Carrier Dome, from March 30, 1985, was live streamed on the deceased icon’s YouTube channel in May of 2020. The footage was made available as part of Prince’s estate’s efforts to release previously unseen videos contained in his Paisley Park archives. The Syracuse show then became a live album with sales from the album donated to the World Health Organization.
Paul McCartney will be making his second stop at the Carrier Dome this June. Prior to the concert scheduled for this summer he had performed at the Carrier Dome in September of 2017. The two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee had also been slated to play the venue in 1993 before cancelling his show.
Despite the impending name change, it’s too early to tell if this will affect future bookings. The name change has not yet been officially announced by either Syracuse University or Carrier. There is still no confirmation of the venue’s new name.
Courtney Barnett’s boutique touring festival, “Here and There” has a rotating line-up featuring Snail Mail, Faye Webster, Hana Vu and will be performing at Radio City Music Hall on July 21 and Beak & Skiff on August 14th.
Courtney Barnett wrote a lot of songs in the beginning of her career through her experiences of driving through Australian bushland and desert to play shows. A few of her songs, “Dead Fox”, “Scotty Says” and “Out Of the Woodwork” from her early EPs and debut album were created during those days.
The “Here and There” tour is partnering up with The Ally Coalition (TAC) throughout the tour to provide site-specific programs. The Ally Coalition is committed to better the lives of LGBTQ Youth through tours, campaigns and partnerships and partner with artists to use their platforms to help raise awareness.
Courtney Barnett is partnering also with Plus1 to donate $1 ticket to The Ally Coalition.

In anticipation of their debut EP, Broken Dance, set to release on May 6th, Gooseberry has dropped the titular track of their forthcoming project. The Brooklyn band, consisting of Asa Daniels, Evin Rossington, Sam Rappaport, and Will Hammond, is slowly building an underground following.
Recently, the band placed in the Final Four in NYSMusic’s March Madness 2022 bracket, and their newest release continues to highlight their talent.
Gooseberry
Gooseberry’s music is a magnificent blend of soulful R&B and indie-pop. Their newest release continues to showcase this amalgamation. The titularly titled track, “Broken Dance,” features a happy yet inquisitive piano roll. Accompanied by a melancholic violin and intimate lyricism, the track wonderfully captures the antonymic feelings of intimacy and loss.
The four-piece talent will also be touring the American Northeast. In New York, they will return to the Bowery Electric on April 14th and to Brooklyn’s Knitting Factory on May 21st. Additionally, the band will also pass through the Finger Lakes region and will play at Grist Iron Brewing on June 11th.
