  • Fun Lovin’ Criminals return with “The Roosevelt Sessions”, National Tour in November

Fun Lovin’ Criminals have released their first EP in more than a decade, The Roosevelt Sessions, with a national tour kicking off in November. The jazz-laden four-track cut is sprinkled with biting political satire, nostalgic samples that romanticize life in New York, and their signature world-weary commentary on rising above a life of crime.

    FUN LOVIN’ CRIMINALS roosevelt sessions

The last album of original music from Fun Lovin’ Criminals was Classic Fantastic, released in 2010, and The Roosevelt Sessions gives fans a taste of the new Criminals sound ahead of more new music slated for release in 2023. The trio features multi-instrumentalist Brian ‘Fast’ Leiser on lead vocal duties following the departure of Huey Morgan in November last year; drummer Frank Benbini and guitarist Naim Cortazzi, formerly with the Manchester band Happy Mondays and soul star Beverley Knight, to restore the trio.

“Shake It Loose”, the second track on the EP, addresses the mental health issues that inspired Fast and Frank to create new music and perform to their fans worldwide after the departure of Morgan.

With silky backing vocals from Benbini, Fast, with his smokey Brooklyn drawl, laments, “back then you didn’t listen, to what was true, now it’s all we wanna hear from you. It’s not about right, it’s not about wrong.”

Fun Lovin’ Criminals are entering a new chapter, with a steely focus on creating new music that our fans will love. Our new EP is a return to our gritty early days in NYC, particularly with the way the music has been composed.

    Brian ‘Fast’ Leiser

Fun Lovin’ Criminals began in 1993 after Brian ‘Fast’ Leiser met Huey Morgan at The Limelight nightclub in NYC. Their debut album Come Find Yourself reached no.7 in the UK charts and was certified Platinum in the UK and Gold in the Netherlands. The biggest hit “Scooby Snacks” contains dialogue from Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs. The track peaked at no.12 in the UK singles chart in 1997 and was certified Silver by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) in July 2022.

Fun Lovin’ Criminals Fall Tour dates can be found below, with the tour kicking off in Boston on November 3, and stopping in their hometown of Brooklyn on November 4 at Elsewhere.

  • Disclosure Brings The Energy To Elsewhere

English electronic music duo, Disclosure, rocked the illustrious Elsewhere Brooklyn club and music venue on Wednesday, May 11th. The duo brought high energy and psychedelic sounds to Brooklyn as they started their four day Brooklyn run as part of their North American Tour.

The Grammy award winning duo, known for their electrifying single “Latch,” featuring Sam Smith and “Nocturnal,” featuring The Weeknd, performed new cuts from their new album Energy as well as their popular hits. After rising to prominence in 2013, Disclosure has cultivated a strong following that truly showed out for the English duo on Wednesday.

The stars were also out on Wednesday night with an appearance from Sam Smith, who was also in attendance that night. It was just a Wednesday, but it was definitely not a boring one. Disclosure brought electrifying energy accompanied by a beautiful light show that fully encapsulated a true out of body experience.

Doors opened at 11, but the duo performed in front of a full house with their set starting at approximately 1am. The opener was the talented Honey Bun, who definitely warmed up the crowd for what was to come.

The duo started their Brooklyn stint with a strong first show, and continues to carry this momentum to their sold out shows at Brooklyn Mirage this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

  • Elsewhere Brooklyn Announces 2022 Lineup

Elsewhere, the multi-room live music venue and nightclub in Bushwick, Brooklyn is back this summer and they have announced a huge lineup. Throughout the summer, the venue will be hosting over 40 events ranging from intimate shows with up-and-coming artists to full-blown parties.

Since 2017, Elsewhere has served as one of Brooklyn’s epicenters for unique indie artists to showcase their talents. For example, in February we covered Magdalena Bay’s performance at the venue. The duo magnificently blends hyperpop and synthwave in their music, and similar sounds will be found when the venue hosts 8485 and blackwinterwell’s hyperpop performance this July.

Elsewhere’s 5,000-square-foot rooftop venue will open on Thursday, May 26th. The venue has three floors, making the best usage of the city’s necessity for vertical urbanization. The venue has two stages, The Hall and Zone One. The Hall is reserved for larger performances and large DJ sets. Contrarily, Zone One is where those intimate performances radiating hipster that peculiar Brooklyn charm happen.

In preparation for the summer season, Elsewhere will be opening its rooftop. Here is the perfect place to grab a drink and enjoy an excellent view. Additionally, live entertainment is also performed here occasionally.

Lastly, the venue boasts two lounges, one public and one private. At The Loft, the public lounge nestled into the second floor of the building, you can take a seat, relax, and enjoy a small food menu and drinks. The Skybridge Lounge, on the other hand, is the new private lounge at Elsewhere. Here, private parties can enjoy private table service and sound piped in from performances around the venue.

Last October, Magdalena Bay released their debut LP Mercurial World on Luminelle records. Featuring groovy, synth-pop beats and Mica’s art-pop vocals, the album feels like listening to pop radio from the future. For this tour, the duo have added live drums via Nick Villa and VHS-era DIY visuals to top off their retro-futurism vibe. Elsewhere sold out quickly and drew one of the more passionate crowds we have seen there in some time.

Mercurial World is rapidly making its mark on the pop landscape. The duo played the smaller Elsewhere space, Zone One, last October and sold out the much larger Hall 4 months later. Singles “Secrets (Your Fire)” and “You Lose!” from the record are making their rounds on the radio and in media while the band is popping up on festival flyers all over the world. Watch the band’s official video for the former single below.

There are a handful of more dates on the current tour before several festival stops sprinkled throughout the summer. Head over to the band’s website for the full run of dates. Magdalena Bay’s stock is quickly rising; Charli XCX just announced the full details for her upcoming tour and Magdalena Bay will be opening the New York (Hammerstein Ballroom) and Chicago dates at the end of April. The band has a lot of momentum with many more shows and festival appearances to be announced in the coming months. See our full photo gallery from the show at Elsewhere below.
