  • Michael Franti & Spearhead Announce the “Follow Your Heart Tour,” Central Park Show

    Michael Franti & Spearhead are going on tour with a date in NYC at SummerStage on July 3.

    Franti is a globally recognized muscian and activist, and also an award-winning filmmaker. He is best known for his high energy live shows, inspiring music, and his powerful optimism.

    Throughout his career, he has earned three Billboard No. 1 spots for the songs “Sound of Sunshine,” “Say Hey (I Love You)” and “I Got You.” His latest single with Spearhead’s “Good Day For A Good Day” marked their 10th Top 25 AAA hit.

    In 2019 he released his self-directed and award winning documentary called Stay Human and he also has a non-profit called Do It For The Love with his wife. The non-profit brings those with life threatening illnesses, veterans, and children with severe challenges to concerts worldwide.

    Speaking about the tour, Franti said he is excited to be back.

    We’re so excited to head back out on the road this summer! After such a challenging few years, we are more ready than ever to share new music with our Soulrocker fam and join in community together.

  • Kevin Devine Announces Tour With NY Dates And New Single

    New York-based songwriter and artist Kevin Devine announced a Spring tour that has multiple NY dates with Kayleigh Goldsworthy and his new single “How Can I Help You?”

    Devine spoke about the new single:

    [The single] is a dance song for wallflowers, body music for the brain, a gently caffeinated disco gallop arpeggiating through the last aspirational sliver separating a relationship from its end.

    The single is thoughtful and drum-backed as he sings “How can I help you push through yourself to me? / How I can help you tell me what you need?” He speaks about the castles of love, and how he has been entranced in them.

    Kevin Devine will be going on tour this Spring with Kayleigh Goldsworthy and will be hitting Buffalo and Brooklyn, tickets can be found here.

  • 45th Annual Freihofer’s Jazz Festival Returns to SPAC June 25th and 26th with Wynton Marsalis, Booker T and many more

    June 25th and 26th will be two days of the 45th Annual Freihofer’s Jazz Festival at SPAC in Saratoga Springs. The weekend event will feature a plethora of legendary and Grammy award-winning musicians.

    Freihofer’s Saratoga Jazz Festival has been one of North America’s largest jazz festivals over the past 45 years. This year’s festival will mark the 25th anniversary of its partnership with Freihofer’s. The bakery committed a multi-year sponsorship to the festival. The Festival will have a weekend of entertaining music, and other amenities to enjoy as well. This includes an arts and crafts fair, artist CD signings, and food vendors.

    Saratoga Performing Arts Center will allow families to bring their own food, blankets, tents, and lawn umbrellas. A $20 student and child amphitheater pass will be offered for children ages 12 and under and students with school-issued ID at the time of entrance. Also, parking will be free.

    The line-up is headlined by Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, returning to the festival for the first time since 1998; soul music legend Booker T. Presents: A Stax Revue;
    powerhouse vocalist Ledisi for her festival debut; jazz/hip-hop crossover great Robert

  • Elvis Costello and The Imposters Announce Tour, with shows at Artpark and Pier 17 Rooftop

    Elvis Costello and The Imposters are hitting the road for a 20-date summer tour to celebrate the release of their new album ‘The Boy Named If.’ The summer tour “The Boy Named If & Other Favourites” kicks off in August coming to Artpark Amphitheater in Buffalo, NY and The Rooftop at Pier 17 in New York, NY.

    The first time since 1989 artists Nick Lowe and Los Straitjackets come together to join Elvis Costello and The Imposters on tour for select shows. In four short years, Nick Lowe produced Elvis’ debut album, ‘My Aim Is True’, ‘This Year’s Model’, ‘Armed Forces’, ‘Get Happy’, and ‘Trust’ and he didn’t just stop there. Artists like Johnny Cash, Tommy McLain, and Sir Rod Stewart, Engelbert Humperdinck and Solomon Burke recorded songs from Nick Lowe.

    The Imposters – Steve Nieve, Pete Thomas and Davey Faragher and Elvis Costello are joined together with Charlie Sexton a Texas guitarist once again since the “Hello Again” tour in October 2021. Joining Costello and The Imposters is a vocalist appearance from Nicole Atkins for shows in Huber Heights and the Buffalo. Nicole Atkins has a recently released song “Memphis Ice.”

  • Keith Richards Headlines Love Rocks NYC Benefit Concert

    Keith Richards & The X-Pensive Winos to headline the sixth annual Love Rocks NYC benefit concert at the Beacon Theater on March 10.

    The lineup for the fundraiser also includes Mavis Staples, Hozier, Warren Haynes, Melissa Etheridge, Allison Russell, Larkin Poe, Tyler Bryant, David Shaw (of The Revivalists), Anders Osborne, Celisse, Jimmy Vivino, Maggie Rose, Connor Kennedy (of Steely Dan) and more to be announced.

    John Varvatos, the world-renowned fashion designer, will executive produce the show. It will be hosted by Mario Cantone, Kiefer Sutherland, Gina Gershon, Michelle Buteau, and New York icon, and Bensonhurst native, Steve Schirripa.

    Love Rocks NYC will benefit God’s Love We Deliver, a not-for-profit that delivers meals to people who are too ill to shop and/or cook for themselves. Founded in 1985, during the AIDS epidemic, God’s Love We Deliver, remains active during the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year alone, it delivered 2.6 million meals to roughly 10,000 New Yorkers.

    This years’ event will also mark a key milestone in God’s Love We Deliver history with the delivery of its 30 millionth meal. Since its first concert in 2017 Love Rocks NYC has raised approximately $20 million which have helped fund 2 million meals for New Yorkers in need.

    Warren Hayes will perform at Love Rocks NYC for the fourth time this year.

    Warren Hayes, longtime guitarist for The Allman Brothers Band, will interrupt his solo tour specifically to appear at Love Rocks NYC. After which he will go on tour with his blues quartet Gov’t Mule. The band recently released their new album Heavy Load Blues.

  • London’s Ithaca Unleashes Furious New Single, “They Fear Us”

    Ithaca is a town in New York State, and was originally a place in Greece. However, the Ithaca that we’re here to discuss is a music group from London, whose new album, They Fear Us, will be out July 29th.

    So now that we all know why we have gathered here today, let’s talk about the first single from that album, which is also the title track for They Fear Us.

    The genre tags for this album are a mix of metal and hardcore, with the sub-genres listed as melodic hardcore and emotional hardcore. If you fine readers are aware of hardcore, you’ll know that it is usually based off of slamming riffs, screamed vocals, attitude, and a no holds barred use of power. 

    As the track begins you’ll hear some intense vocal work, and they have a lot of the hardcore sound. The guitar riff is rooted in that genre as well, and has a cool, bouncy feel going on. 

    As things progress there is a heavy Killswitch Engage influence, and that holds through the chorus section too, while the vocals remind me more of the cleans from Miss May I; both of those bands are amazing, so hearing their influence here is a reminder of that, and of how much they really inspired other bands. 

    While the full They Fear Us album won’t be released for another 5 months, we feel that you should go check out the single on Bandcamp today. They may not be breaking much new ground in terms of the genre, but what Ithaca put together is quite good, and we eagerly anticipate their next release.

  • The Seapods Spectacular Return at The Hollow

    It wasn’t quite Valentine’s Day, but on the evening of February 11th at The Hollow in Albany, it felt like a holiday nonetheless. For night one of their two-night run, The Seapods made their long-awaited and triumphant return with a rare treat — a reunion show for the hungry masses.

    From beginning to end The Seapods absolutely brought the heat and it was impossible to tell they have only played together a few times over the past two decades. They knew we were hungry too, so this band packaged and delivered three whole sets of delicious and filling music. Each set was a slightly different tone from the last. It was a veritable feast and everybody left feeling full and very satisfied.

    Set one started out with Max Verna (guitar, vocals) solo. He was later joined by Tom Pirozzi (bass), Brian Mangini (keyboards), and Ted Marotta (drums) with a special sit-in during set two by guitarist Todd Pasternack.

    This was my first time seeing The Seapods perform and I was enchanted immediately by the fact that every single band member up there looked like they were having the time of their lives. These dudes absolutely love what they do from the bottom of their hearts and it’s contagious. Everyone in the crowd had a blast too.

    Night Two of the Seapods

    On Saturday, February 12, the Seapods came back for night two of their two-night run at The Hollow in Albany. I wouldn’t have thought it possible to impress me more than they did on night one, however, this shockingly talented group of musicians blew me away yet again on night two.

    Bluegrass, Rock, and Everything in Between

    Set one on night two was a lovely warm-up of our souls with some bluegrass to get us all in the groove. It wasn’t just any old set of bluegrass, though. We had electric banjos and several sit-ins as well. Sam “Zucchini” Brewton sat in on drums; Crick Diefendorf on banjo and guitar; and Josh Himmelsbach on mandolin.

    Set two was pretty stacked with some rocking tunes. The high-energy set left everyone wondering where The Seapods could possibly go for set three. Well, set three was absolutely the cherry on the sundae. It was all about the long jam and it could not have been a more perfect ending for a delightful two nights of music.

  • Meshell Ndegeocello Residency At Symphony Space In NYC

    Symphony Space in NYC will host Meshell Ndegeocello for a residency at from Feb. 24-26, showcasing the array of genres her music catalog touches on, from soul and funk, folk to rock, jazz to hip hop, and beyond. Throughout her residency at the venue, she will be playing music inspired by jazz musician Max Roach’s groundbreaking 1960 album, We Insist.

    Ndegeocello has been nominated for 11 Grammy Awards, and won one. She has been credited with starting the neo-soul music movement.

    During her musical career, she has had many top hits. Her duet with with John Mellencamp, a cover version of Van Morrison’s “Wild Night,” went to number 3 on the Billboard charts. Her only other Billboard Hot 100 hit was “If That’s Your Boyfriend (He Wasn’t Last Night)”, which peaked at No. 73.

    Her music has also been featured in a lot of films, including How Stella Got Her Groove Back, Batman & Robin, Love Jones, Higher Learning, Noah’s Arc: Jumping the Broom, and more.

  • David Byrne’s American Utopia Announces Final Broadway Extension Through April 3, 2022  

    David Byrne’s American Utopia on Broadway has extended its run and conclude performances on Sunday, April 3, 2022, at the St. Theatre (246 West 44th Street).

    Just days before its April 3 conclusion at the St. James Theatre on Broadway, David Byrne’s American Utopia will stage American Utopia Farewell!, a special benefit performance on March 30 with proceeds supporting Byrne’s non-profit, Arbutus.

    Guests will receive premium seating for the show, entry to an exclusive post-performance conversation with Byrne and special guests and a gift bag.     Following its 2019 smash hit at the Hudson Theatre and the 18-month pandemic shutdown, American Utopia returns to Broadway on Friday, September 17, 2021. However, the show was honored with a Special Tony Award in September of 2021. 

    David Byrne’s original production began as an album released in 2018. Later that year, the theatrical concert played more than 150 dates in 27 countries. Additionally, the album includes songs from Talking Heads and Byrne’s solo career.

    Often described as a “dazzling, jubilant and rapturous” production, the show features astonishing staging by choreographer Annie-B Parson. Along with Alex Timbers serving as production consultant, is “a joy to behold and a breathtaking celebration of life.”

    Bryne’s production made its world premiere opening the 2020 Toronto International Film Festival and is currently streaming on HBO Max. The film is called “a life-affirming, euphoria-producing, soul-energizing sing-along protest film that’s asking us to rise up against our own complacency” (IndieWire) and “an all-time-great concert film” (Vanity Fair). The A.V. Club said, “David Byrne and Spike Lee found the spectacle in the performers simply performing.” 

    Nonesuch Records released the original 2018 album and the cast album for American Utopia, with music and lyrics by David Byrne. Both albums are available digitally and on vinyl and CD: the cast album here, the original album here.

  • Phish 2022 Summer Tour Includes Stops at Bethel Woods, Jones Beach

    Phish will head out on a massive 34-date 2022 Spring and Summer Tour, kicking off Memorial Day Weekend in Alabama, and including their first four-night run at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Colorado over Labor Day. Phish will also play a pair of two-night runs in New York, with shows at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts over July 22-23, and at Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater on July 26-27.

    Phish last performed at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts in May of 2011, with three memorable shows including an incredible soundcheck of “Waves.”


    Phish are no strangers to Jones Beach, having performed there 14 times since 1992, including opening up for Santana at the fabled Long Island venue. Read our look back at the two-night run at Jones Beach in 1995.

    A ticket request period is currently underway at tickets.phish.com and will end on Friday, February 25th at Noon ET. Tickets go on sale to the public beginning Friday, March 4th (continuing Saturday). Specific ticketing information for each show is available at phish.com/tours.

    Travel Packages will be offered in Bethel, Atlantic City, East Troy, and Commerce City. All packages include concert tickets and local hotel accommodations and go on sale Thursday, March 3rd beginning at 10AM ET. The Atlantic City shows will again offer a special Foundation Ticket that includes early admission, a dedicated viewing area, a Foundation lounge and bar, and early access to merchandise.     Phish will take to the stage later this month with Phish: Riviera Maya set for February 24-27 and April will see Phish return to Madison Square Garden in New York City for their rescheduled four-night NYE run now taking place April 20-23, including a three-set show on April 22.
