Since 2015, Larry Luttinger has been curating Jazz On Tap, a weekly jazz club, offering some of the best jazz from across Central New York to the town of Skaneateles, just outside of Syracuse. This longest-running weekly jazz offering of CNY Jazz was to be discontinued by Thanksgiving, but will now extend into March 23, 2023, with a sling of new and returning musicians from the area now slated to perform in the spring.
The “jazz club” is hosted in a historic 1880 building, which houses the 60-tap restaurant Finger Lakes on Tap. It’s a cozy, two-story venue with balcony seating available as well, which overlooks the stage. Though they sold the restaurant, which implied the closing of the Jazz Club series as well, the music, as always, prevailed, and will continue concerts in Skaneateles until the property’s lease expires in April.
On New Years’ the lakeside venue will throw down with Angelo Candela and his group, in what has become a traditional celebration of the New Year. Slated for performances in the spring are Stringdom, Mike Houston & Sam Wynn, Julie Howard, Jimmy Johns Trio, Carol Bryant Quartet, Dan Pugh Trio, Little Jazz Trio, Bob Piorun Quartet, Edgar Pagan’s GPL, Julie Falatico & Rick Montalbano, Steve Brown Duo, and Alex Becerra & Friends, and many more.
Larry Lutinger said the concerts, which are every Sunday from 2-5 p.m. are an essential cultural offering to the region.
“The various club series that we present around the area are important introductions to America’s music for many uninitiated music lovers, and folks who still don’t know all that CNY Jazz does. These afternoon sessions are easy listening, engaging, exciting, and eye opening for many new to the genre,” Luttinger said.
These sessions are free, but early arrival is recommended if you want a comfy seat. See the complete schedule of shows here.
There are only three members of Fenway Park’s Fenway Music Hall of Fame: Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, and now, Zac Brown Band. That’s because they hold the record for most consecutive sold out shows at the huge stadium in Boston. Luckily, the country rock band is coming to four amphitheaters in New York this summer, playing five shows, and tickets are still on sale for all.
In 2022, Zac Brown Band released their album The Comeback, which featured re-recorded tracks with some of their most acclaimed peers including James Taylor, Jimmy Buffett and Blake Shelton. Their 2023 tour, the “From the Fire Tour,” marks the band’s tenth North American tour.
The 2023 tour will take Zac Brown Band through over 30 shows across the country, as an ode to fans and to those who worked to pull the country back onto its feet from the crises of the past couple years, the band said.

40 years ago tonight, on Friday, December 10, 1982, legendary rockers The Who brought their first farewell tour to Syracuse’s Carrier Dome, performing to a crowd of 47,319.
With the tour ending a week later in Toronto, this was the final chance for many in the Northeast to see The Who – even though they would later reform in 1989 for a reunion tour and continue to tour today.
The tour was sponsored by Schlitz beer, part of the Schlitz Rocks America marketing campaign.
Performing in 1982 at the Carrier Dome – which had only opened two years prior in September 1980, The Who inspired local radio station 95X to dub the Salt City ‘SyracWHOse’ as a lead up to the then-record attendance show.
CNY Vintage reported that the stage was illuminated with 400 aircraft lights, 12 computerized lights that swivel in unison, and eight huge spotlights.
This show was also a few short years after 11 fans died at a Who concert in Cincinnati in 1979 in the process of racing for general admission seats. Thus, the Carrier Dome concert – the final stadium show on The Who Farewell Tour – had reserved seating with tickets costing $15 which could only be purchased by mail (that’s $106.94 in 2022 dollars).
As for the show itself, fans were treated to a setlist that balanced fan-favorites with rarities including “Dangerous,” “Cry if you Want” and “It’s Hard.” Fans who attended the show and recall the performance 40 years ago shared their memories with NYS Music:
I was there up in nose bleeds. First time seeing The Who live. Been to 20 shows since, including front row in front of Pete at MSG IN ‘04, one of the highlights of my life. I don’t remember many details from the Syracuse show, other than I was so happy to see them live!! Loved it!!!
Best memory was I was in Boston and my car wouldn’t start and I was devastated. My friend and his frat brother said no problem, we’ll come get you guys!! They were near Albany NY and drove 3 hrs each way before going another 2 hours to Syracuse!! We were wasted by the time they got to Boston!! I almost had a recording of it but my compact cassette recorder got discovered in my pants by security.
That was my second time seeing The Who, which was my favorite band. I remember being a little disappointed that they opened with “My Generation,” which I think needs to be deeper in the set and built up to. It was a little strange hearing the Quadrophenia selections scattered a bit throughout, since I always think of them in sequence.
I always considered “Love Ain’t for Keeping” the weakest track on Who’s Next so it was a revelation hearing it done live. I loved “Naked Eye” in the encore, but ending with “Squeeze Box” and the “Twist and Shout” cover made it a bit meh for me. I also love “Eminence Front” and I’m glad that they continue to keep it in their concert set to this day.
The Who – Carrier Dome, Syracuse – December 10, 1982
Setlist: My Generation, I Can’t Explain, Dangerous, Sister Disco, The Quiet One, It’s Hard, Eminence Front, Behind Blue Eyes, Baba O’Riley, Doctor Jimmy, Boris the Spider, Drowned, Cry If You Want, Who Are You, Pinball Wizard, See Me, Feel Me, Love Ain’t for Keepin’, 5:15, Love, Reign O’er Me, Long Live Rock, Won’t Get Fooled Again
Encore: Naked Eye, Squeeze Box, Twist and Shout (The Top Notes cover)

The world’s most iconic rock legends Def Leppard and Motley Crue are going global in 2023 with their co-headline “The World Tour.” Making a surprise appearing along some of the tour dates, special guest Alice Cooper will also be along for the ride. With more than 110 million albums sold worldwide, the infamous Def Leppard continue to be one of the most important forces in all rock music. Over the course of their career, the band has produced a series of classic groundbreaking albums that set the bar for generations of music fans and artists alike. Joe Elliott of Def Leppard
Likewise, the infamous Mötley Crüe are known for their iconic crazy live performances. The band has sold-out countless tours across the globe in front of millions of fans with groundbreaking production highlights such as Tommy Lee’s drum-rollercoaster and Nikki Sixx’s flame-throwing-bass.
Mötley Crüe’s hit songs such as “Kickstart My Heart” and “Home Sweet Home” are frequently known throughout rock history. The band’s biography “The Dirt: Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band” became a New York Times best-seller in 2001 and has an amazing Netflix adaptation from 2019.
“We had an incredible time playing The Stadium Tour in North America this summer and we truly can’t wait to take the show around the globe with The WORLD Tour in 2023. Crüeheads get ready because we have a few amazing U.S. dates set for you!”
Mötley Crüe, in a joint statement
Lastly, Alice Cooper has also pioneered a brand of hard rock that was designed to shock audiences of all ages. Drawing his inspiration from horror movies, vaudeville, and garage rock, he created a stage show that featured electric chairs, guillotines, fake blood and boa constrictors. He continues to tour regularly, performing shows worldwide with the dark and horror-themed theatrics that he’s best known for.
You won’t want to miss the thrilling craziness of this tour, packed full of amazing rock music from Def Leppard and Motley Crue. These bands have consciousness rattled the cages and undermined the authority of generations of guardians of the status quo. The holiday season delivered an early gift for music fans on Saturday, December 3, as radio station 95X hosted its annual 95X-Mas Pajama Jam at The Westcott Theater in Syracuse. The event, headlined by the indie folk-rock band Wilderado, also featured a solo performance by Andrew McMahon and a set by Almost Monday.

Wilderado, hailing from Tulsa, Oklahoma, are led by Max Rainer (vocals and guitar), also include Tyler Wimpee (guitar), Justin Kila (drums), David Stimson (bass guitar) and Jack Malonis (keyboards). They continue to tour in support of their 2021 self-titled album, and were making their first appearance in Central NY.

The event opened with a set by Almost Monday. The San Diego indie-rockers hit the stage promptly at 8pm and delighted fans with a set of groovy rock tracks.

Up next was Andrew McMahon. McMahon is most known for his years fronting the bands Something Corporate and Jack’s Mannequin. His recent set at Beak & Skiff in August 2022 was a summer favorite of many. On this evening, however, fans were treated to a rare, solo performance. Flanked by just a piano, McMahon took fans through a journey highlighting many of his past musical projects. From the moment McMahon took the stage, fans sang along to every word. A set filled with many highlights, perhaps the most special moment was when McMahon closed his set by honoring a fan’s request by playing the emotional “Hammers and Strings.”

After a brief intermission, it was time for Wilderado. The band opened with a dreamy musical intro before launching into “Stranger,” the opening track on their 2021 self-titled album. The band weaved through several folk-rock styled tracks, much to the enjoyment of the crowd who jumped, danced, and sang along.

As the set wound to a close, Rainer summoned the crowd. “Are you guys going to help me sing Surefire?” The band began their stand out track and the crowd did not dissapoint, belting out the lyrics to the catchy chorus. As the song concluded, the band members shed their instruments and joined Rainer at the front of the stage. Armed with just an acoustic guitar, the band closed their set with “Rubble to Rubble”, a beautiful ode becoming a new parent.
Multi-platinum, four-time GRAMMY-nominated rock band Goo Goo Dolls have revealed the details for their The Big Night Out Tour with O.A.R. The massive summer 2023 tour will kick off on July 24th, 2023 and roll through major outdoor venues in New York including Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater, Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, SPAC and St. Joseph’s Health Amphitheater.
On the upcoming tour, John Rzeznik shares, “I’m so proud to finally be able to announce our summer tour with a great band and our friends O.A.R. It’s going to be an amazing night of great music for everyone so BE THERE!!!”
O.A.R.’s Marc Roberge also added, “After working on separate albums in the same studio all last year, John and I realized pretty quickly how much fun we’d have on tour together. We’re all band guys, love being musicians, and started planning a special night that all our fans would enjoy.”
The first album of their career to be produced by frontman John Rzeznik, Chaos in Bloom finds the band continuing to evolve just as they have for nearly four decades together. Consisting of 10 tracks including singles “Yeah, I Like You” and “You Are The Answer”, Chaos in Bloom is an album of biting sarcasm, stadium-ready choruses, and the type of spear-sharp songwriting that’s led them to becoming one of the most influential alternative rock groups of all time.
Formed in Buffalo during 1986 by John Rzeznik and Robby Takac, their newer album Chaos in Bloom finds the band continuing to evolve just as they have for nearly four decades together. Currently, front-man John Rzeznik is gearing up to take the iHeartRadio Theater stage in Los Angeles on December 13th for a special acoustic performance. The show will stream at 7pm PT/10pm ET on YouTube.com/iHeartRadio and broadcasted on iHeartMedia’s Hot AC stations.
Along with this, lead vocalist and guitar to the Goo Goo Dolls, John Rzneik’s birthday was just this week on December 5th. Happy Birthday John!

Frat houses, bars, stadiums, and theatres. Daryl Hall has played them all, including the Oncenter Civic Theatre in Syracuse on November 19. With special guest Todd Rundgren, the mostly over 50 crowd was treated to a night of mellow jams.
Rundgren opened the night with set of approximately 75 minutes including “Hello it’s Me,” “Black Maria,” and “I Saw the Light.” Although he has been playing shows since the late 60s, his look hasn’t changed much as he still flaunts his famous locks and flashy attire while performing.
Touring in support of recently released 2 disc retrospective album, Hall played a great selection on songs from his solo career as well as from Hall & Oates. The stage for this tour is a replica of his house from his 2017 webcast series, Daryl’s House. Lights, props, stairs, everything is there and lighting was amazing.
Highlight for me, personally, was his rendition of 2022 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Eurythmics Here Comes the Rain. With his own little spin on it, Hall made the song his own. By far, my favorite song from Annie Lennox, but Daryl Hall knows how to change it up and make it sound brand new, 30+ years later.
Made famous by Paul Young, Hall also put his piano bar style on Paul Young’s “Every Time You Go Away,” which was a Daryl Hall original in the mid 80s. Truly amazing to hear these songs again, for the first time and live as well.
While the crowd was mostly over 50, there was a surprising amount of under 30 and I heard many of them complaining that Daryl Hall didn’t play any of his heavier songs, as they were falling asleep. I couldn’t help to think maybe they thought they were going to see Dimebag Darrell, which might have been pretty epic in an alternate universe.
Regardless, go see these guys. For me, it was nice change of pace from the chaos I call life, and with the chaos ramping up over the next month or so, I welcomed the opportunity to kick back and chill to a couple of legends.
That being said, get your tickets, get your beverage of choice and kick back for a couple hours.
Todd Rundgren Setlist: Real Man/Love of a Common Man; It Wouldn’t Have Made Any Difference; We Gotta Get You a Woman; Buffalo Grass; I Saw the Light; Black Maria; Unloved Children; Hello It’s Me; Sometimes I Don’t Know How to Feel; I’m So Proud/Ooh Baby Baby/I Want You; The Want of a Nail
Daryl Hall Setlist: Dreamtime; Romeo is Bleeding; Problem With You; Philly Mood; Cab Driver; Everytime You Go Away; Sacred Songs; Babs and Babs; Here Comes the Rain; Sara Smile; No Can Do; Wait For Me; Can We Still Be Friends; Expressway; Dreams
