The Troy Music Hall lately annouced the return performance of legendary American trumpeter Chris Botti on October 15th.

The Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, a National Historic Landmark, has been in use since opening in 1875. World renowned for its incredible acoustics, it has hosted performances by legions of world-renowned artists. With several intervention, the tall ceiling and ideal seat count of 1180 to provide intimacy and sustain an optimal reverberation.
Chris Botti, the largest-selling American instrumental artist who has been renowned since his release of When I Fall In Love. His associated with PBS has led to four #1 jazz albums, as well as multiple Gold, Platinum and Grammy Awards. Most recently, his latest album Impressions won the Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental.
Over the past three decades, Botti has recorded and performed with a great amount of musicians including Sting, Barbra Streisand and so on while hitting the road for as many as 300 days per year worldwide.
Impressions, Botti’s 2012 Columbia Records and Grammy winning release, is the latest in a stellar parade of albums. Featuring artists Andrea Bocelli, Vince Gill, Herbie Hancock, Mark Knopfler, and David Foster, this album included When I Fall In Love (2004), To Love Again: The Duets (2005), Italia (2007), and the CD/DVD Chris Botti in Boston (2009) that has firmly established him as a clarion voice in the American contemporary music scene. These albums established his figures of the contemporary music world.

Starting on July 7, every Thursday morning at 11 am, Troy Music Hall will host a free outdoor concert series in Barker Park, located at the corner of 3rd and State streets in Troy.
The summer series will go through August 25 and feature the talents of 8 musicians over the course of the summer. Read more about each of the featured acts below.
July 7: ANDY THE MUSIC MAN
Andy “The Music Man” will open the Barker Park Kid’s series on Thursday, July 7. A popular children’s music artist known for connecting with his audience he mixes traditional and original songs. There will be sing-a-longs, dancing, play-acting, and storytelling.
July 14: HEARD
HEARD, a collective of musicians who have a passion for world music, improvisation, and jazz, will be the next featured group in the series. Their sound includes influences from West Africa, Brazil, the Caribbean, and beyond.
July 21: WATCH REGGIE RUN
Watch Reggie Run consists of father Dave and his son, Luke, who has autism. The two formed their group in 2017 and named the band for how they spend their time together when they are not making music: watching Luke’s sister Reggie run in sporting events. The duo loves music and finds it is a great way to connect despite Luke’s limited communication skills. All of the original songs are inspired by Luke and are for all ages.
July 28: TERRI ROBEN
Terri Roben has worked in children’s music and movement for over 30 years. Over that time, she has performed in schools, festivals, coffeehouses, and taught classes for preschoolers to 5th graders. Her music CD, Riverwalk & Other Songs can be found online.She previously owned her business, Music Together, and taught for 11 years.

Jordan Taylor Hill’s music is rooted in the traditional West African music and the diaspora which he combines with the sounds of today. As a songwriter and performer, he inspires and entertains all of his audiences.

Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company is a not-for-profit art organization and is committed to creating, collaborating, educating, and partnering as they share their work with all audiences. The 31-year-old dance company holds concerts, showcases, residencies, workshops, and educational and community outreach.
August 25: THE RAGTIME WIND JAMMERS
The Ragtime Wind Jammers consist of Dave Lambert, Woody Strobeck, Steve Lambert, Mike Lawrence, and Ron Bill. The local jazz group encourages audience participation as they visually show acoustic ideas in their performance. Their use of banjo, trumpet, guitar, clarinet, trombone, bass, and drums will make for an exciting soundscape.

The Troy Music Hall has announced the return of their free outdoor concert series Summer Square. The series will kick off on July 8th and continue every Friday and Saturnday until August 27th.
Located in the Music Hall courtyard on 2nd Street, the series will be showcasing some of the Capital Region’s top talents.
The Summer Square series will host 16 musical acts, opening with Arch Stanton Quartet and ending with Troy native Ryan Leddick. Other performances include jazz band Heard and blues duo Mark & Jill, among others.
Arch Stanton Quartet experiments with original jazz music, with influences in bop and post-bop traditions. They are planning their third album, inspired partly by the book “Invisible Man” by Ralph Ellison.
The closing performer for the series, Ryan Leddick, released an album “Up, Up, & Away” in 2020. Leddick grew his love of music in the Adirondacks, and his current music blends together folk and rock.
The Summer Square music series also welcomes back musicians from previous years among the lineup. Acts such as Julia Alsarraf, Bossamba, Jordan Taylor Hill, and Triskele all took a part in 2021 and will come back this summer.

Troy Savings Bank Music Hall has a long history of drawing top talent to the area. Opening its doors in 1875, world-renowned artists such as Lillian Nordica, Henri Vieuxtemps, Ignace Jan Paderewski, Albert Spaulding, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Myra Hess, and Jose Iturbi have performed within the historic Hall’s walls.
Built in 19th century, the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall was supported by the Troy Savings Bank to appreciate the citizens. With several intervention, the narrow shoebox form promotes early sidewall reflections that are important for a sense of envelopment, and the tall ceiling and ideal seat count of 1180 to provide intimacy and sustain an optimal reverberation. It also owned the nation’s largest nineteenth-century concert organ in original condition.
Summer Square is a free outdoor concert series every Friday and Saturday evening at 6pm. Lawn chairs are allowed to enjoy this event.
Rockin’ On The River in Troy, NY, announces the lineup for this summer, happening on July 20, Aug. 3, Aug. 17, and Aug. 31 at The Waterfront featuring Hanzolo, Super 400, and more.
Rockin’ On The River is one of the Capital Region’s best and longest-running outdoor music series. It is a free event, happening from 5:30- 8 P.M. with local artists and familiar favorites taking the stage. Geoff Brault, Executive Director, Downtown Troy Business Improvement District, spoke about the concert series.
We’re tremendously excited for Rockin’ On The River to return with four shows in 2022 at a new location at The Waterfront. Since the event was last held, there’s been so much investment in The Waterfront district, and we can’t wait to show off all the improvements and amenities that this area has to offer. And since it’s such a short walk from one end of the downtown district to the other, it’s easy to enjoy great shopping before the show, and fine food and drink after.
Super 400 is a Troy-based rock trio that is known far and wide for telekinetic jams and big love. They have played at Rockin’ On The River multiple times since its creation. Opening for them is Blue Machine.
Skeeter Creek is a country band who have won the Times Union Reader’s Poll winner for Best Local Band six times. Opening for them is Luggnuts, who play cosmic American music.
Saints & Liars is a five-piece Americana band blending their own variants of country, folk, bluegrass, and rock, and is ranked among the best of the new and upcoming alternative artists. Wild Leek River is a five-piece country band that has strong steel vocals and music you can dance to.
NYS Music March Madness winners Hanzolo are a 7-piece band from Upstate New York, with an explosive and emotional sound that mixes soul, jazz, rock, and funk. IAMDYNAMITE is a fast-paced, anthemic, catchy, chanting rock group.

Another Michael returned to the Capital District for the first time in a long time to perform live with Bread Boy at No Fun! in Troy. The now Philly-based indie rock band was formed in Albany by lead singer and guitarist Michael Doherty, guitarist and vocalist Alenni Davis, and bassist Nick Sebastiano.
Another Michael has also featured Noah Dardaris on drums for close to two years. The group has also worked with Jacob Crofoot and Red Cumpston of Bread Boy. This connection and shared influences were evident on Monday night when the two bands took the stage. Bread Boy started the show with a 45 minute set that was well received by the No Fun! crowd, and which for many, was their introduction to Jacob’s music.
The band took the stage and started their set with a brand new single titled ‘Water Pressure‘ that was officially released just a few hours before the start of the show at No Fun! Another Michael performed another new song later in the night, ‘Seafood,’ and both new songs fit well into the group’s discography. As of late, and the band seems to have found a real groove in their songwriting, and are making consistently fun and upbeat indie rock tracks. For those unfamiliar, Another Michael’s music has a sound that is truly their own, and is best experienced by listening.

Another Michael played a number of tracks from their first full-length album, which you can stream and purchase on Another Michael’s Bandcamp. Their set included ‘Row,’ ‘New Music,’ ‘I Know You’re Wrong,’ ‘What The Hell is Going On?’ and ‘Big Pop.’ These tracks all build upon Michael Doherty’s melodic and friendly falsetto at their core. Seemingly every Another Michael song has a fun and optimistic sound that fans gravitate toward. The full band behind Michael only added to these qualities, and the group bounced around and shared their enjoyment of the music with the Troy crowd.
Monday’s No Fun! show built up to a reunion on stage when Another Michael brought Jacob and Red of Bread Boy back on stage to play guitar. Both musicians have spent time playing with Another Michael in the past, and the Bread Boy duo looked right at home on stage with them. The energy from the packed stage spread throughout the room, and fans began to move around as the band rocked their way into the final songs. The night eventually came to an end with Another Michael playing two of their biggest crowd favorites: ‘Big Pop’ and ‘About.’

Adequate Phil doesn’t tether themselves to one genre, and their newest single, “Can’t Not,” showcases this. In it, elements of psychedelia, hip-hop, and folk infuse to make one cerebral concoction. This single is the third of many to come from the new “folk-freak” group coming out of Troy, which falls just north of Albany and lies alongside the Hudson River.
The band consists of three members. Sean McLaughlin provides vocals throughout the track. Moreover, Phil McGrath plays the guitar. Notably, Runey Ghosh provides beautiful bass instrumentation on this project. It is thick, it is beautiful, and it is funky. His instrumental abilities add an essential layer of personality to this song.
Their previous release, “Baby Leeches/Vessel” was previously covered by EQXposure on WEQX, an independent radio station in the Capital Region of New York.

Brooklyn based alternative buzz band Acid Dad brought their “A” game to Troy on Frida, March 4th, mesmerizing fans at the collar city’s newest live music night spot, No Fun. Conveniently located along River Street, despite the club’s name good times were aplenty as the band dropped a heavy dose of their signature psychedelic shoegaze sound; a sonic assault of fuzz infused feedback, groove-heavy basslines, relevant and catchy lyrics complete with an atmospheric 60’s-style liquid drop lightshow that would have made even a young Syd Barret feel at home.

Consisting of duel singer/guitarist duo Vaughn Hunt and Sean Fahey, drummer Trevor Mustoe, and on this night bassist Zoltán Sindhu, who was performing double duty after opening the show with NYC’s Programmique, Acid Dad have been riding a steady wave of growth since Vaughn first started recording the band’s debut EP in a Bushwick basement in 2016. During the pandemic, the guys made good use of their time by building a new recording space in Queens, while also continuing to independently produce all their own music, art and even build some of their own instruments. The end result was their latest LP, ‘Take It From The Dead,’ which “dropped” last summer on Brooklyn’s Greenway Records and psych powerhouse LEVITATION’s label, The Reverberation Appreciation Society.
Originally scheduled to play “No Fun” in early February, Acid Dad finally made their Troy debut this past Friday, March 4th. Playing to a diverse crowd ranging from college students, hipsters, plane jane’s, punks, drunks, die hards, posers, nerds, frat boys, Dead heads, lo-life’s, sell-outs, some cool dudes and a few people still somehow in between, the multi-generational appeal of Acid Dead was apparent from the start. In contrast to lyrics contained in their song “Searchin’” that claim the band is “still stuck in the 70’s” Acid Dad has clearly ingested a multitude of influences that span all eras of music. With a sound the brings to mind influential “do it yourself” indie bands of the late 90’s like The Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Dandy Warhols, Acid Dad have steadily built on those foundations and steadily developed their own unique, catchier spin on the timeless distorted guitar-based genre.

Just a block away from Troy’s Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, Acid Dad opened their set Friday night with the single “BBQ.” Featuring an infectious bass-heavy groove matched by a searing twin guitar attack and an utterly hypnotic light show, fans dug it from the get-go. Following that were intoxicating renditions of “Brain Body,” “She Only Eats Organic,” and the aforementioned “Seachin’” By the time Acid Dad reached the opening chords of the thought provoking “Marine,” the band was firing on cylinders so hot, jackets in the once freezing room were no longer needed. Taking a moment to tune up, the slow burn closer of their self-titled debut album “Dissin’ was next, followed in contrast by the opening track of the same album, “Die Hard.”
From there came perhaps the most well received song on the evening, the lead single from their latest release, “RC Driver.” Keeping the energy high with the relentless driving rhythm of “Living with a Creature” here the young guitar slingers really cut loose, letting their hair fly while thrashing about the stage and indulging in their effects pedals. Another highlight on the night followed that in the form of “Djembe,” where the Brian Jonestown Massacre’s influence, circa “Give it Back!” era, could really be heard.

Taking a moment to address the audience before the start of the next song, Vaughn Hunt openly talked about the escalating situation in the Ukraine and that despite writing “Mr. Major” five years ago, it’s taken on a whole new relevance in recent weeks. While fans soon realized this might be a moment worth capturing on their phones, the band then launched into a particularly heartfelt version of it, giving it everything they had left in the tank and bringing the set to a close. Despite the diversity within the mixed collar city crowd, the they were unified in their overwhelming approval and in their pleas for one more song. Happy to oblige, the exciting young band came back out for a fitting encore of “Don’t Get Taken.” Afterwards the hardworking and down to earth guys could be seen mingling with fans, both new and old, while selling their wares at the merch table.

Singing songs about everything from drug addiction and dead friends, explicit sex and failed relationships to corporate greed and communism, don’t be fooled by their bunk name. Acid Dad are for real. Young, passionate, authentic, and believable. With a catchy recipe of heavy garage riffs mixed with a little punk, some post-rock vibes, a dose of new wave and plenty of sprawling sonic distortion, the only thing testing higher than their potential pH levels is their potential to become one of New York’s most relevant bands. With a huge spring on the horizon that includes a national tour with Australia’s Psychedelic Porn Crumpets and a confirmed slot on the ridiculously stacked Shakey Knee’s Music Festival in Atlanta, it would seem the best is yet to come and that Acid Dad is still far from peaking.

Evolfo, Brooklyn’s very own psych rockers, have released the tour dates for their most recent album, Site Out Of Mind. The tour is set to take place between this upcoming March and April for a total of 12 days, across the Midwest and Northeast.
In 2021, Evolfo’s Site Out Of Mind, showed their fans a different side of what they’re capable of, expressing their uniqueness. In regards to their sophomore album, the group’s vocalist and guitarist Matt Gibbs shared, there is a mixture of “tripped out, weirdo, psych improv with our more arranged and melodic tunes.”
Along with Gibbs is Rafferty Swink on keys and vocals, Ben Adams on guitar, Kai Sorensen singing harmonies and playing trumpet, Jared Yee on saxophones, Ronnie Lanzilotta on bass, and Dave Palazola on drums. In Gibbs’ at home recording studio, all seven members shared their ideas and aided in the writing process.
Concepts derived from sci-fiction and one group psychedelic trip, led to the creation of something visionary and beyond the ordinary perspective of a psych rock album. Site Out Of Mind, takes their listeners on a journey into the depths of the spiritual mind and the afterlife.
In 2017, the rockers released their revolutionary debut album, Last of the Acid Cowboys, which totaled to over 6 million streams. However, through the use of thoughtful planning, improvisation and an extensive variety within their fresh new sounds, there’s no doubt that Site Out of Mind will be a success; some may even call it a rocker’s dream.
If the protagonist of that album died at the end of Last of the Acid Cowboys, then this was the protagonist’s internal journey, flipping the landscape, and going through the mountain of their mind in that moment of mortality; perhaps a blurring of brain activity between dying and death, between life and the afterlife.

New York State has some of the finest bands in the U.S. From Clouds Taste Satanic, to Diluted, Wasted Space to Caustic, and Less than Hate, NYS knows how to throw down a heavy riff or three. With that in mind, our focus today is on a band from Troy, the immensely talented The Final Sleep.
The Final Sleep is a five piece that features founding members of Arsis (drummer Mike Van Dyne), Burning Human (bassist Jason Van DerVoort and guitarist Mike Stack), and Withstand (guitarist Kevin Maloney) joined by Jeff Andrews (guitar and vocals). Together they utilize melody, heavy riffs, sizzling lead guitar work, expertly performed vocals, and a ton of power in order to get their message across; they also throw in some progressive elements to bring their music up to new levels. Their upcoming album, Vessels of Grief, is due out February 4th.
I was shocked as I listened to Vessels of Grief for the first time, mainly because The Final Sleep hits upon several different genres, and manages to keep the record cohesive despite that. I can hear influences from viking metal, dark melodic metal like Witherfall, death metal, hardcore, and a bit of black metal; the band specifically states that they take influence from Opeth, Edge of Sanity, Control Denied, Amorphis, and Mercyful Fate/King Diamond.
The first single is called Screaming in Silence, and it’s easy to see why they chose this one to lead off with; it’s heavy, the vocals are incredible, and it has a serious Witherfall vibe thanks to those excellent vocals. A huge selling point for me are the heavy vocals, which ride the line between death metal and your standard metal vocals.
Tracks four and five, Soul in Between and Funeral Seed respectively, are everything that I love about heavy metal. The band utilizes a diverse approach in both tracks by incorporating dark and light, heavy and melodic, and it all hits like a ten ton hammer of awesomeness. There also seems to be a splash of black metal, particularly in Funeral Seed, but only as coloring for an already amazing piece of art; this one also has that Witherfall feel in its slower, clean sections, and in how the vocals are performed during them.
I would highly recommend The Final Sleep to any metalhead out there, without even taking their genre of choice into consideration, because Vessels of Grief hits so many sweet spots, and uses influences that are far ranging. This album will be one of New York’s finest metal releases.
