  • Zac Brown Band 2023 Tour Makes 4 Stops Across New York

There are only three members of Fenway Park’s Fenway Music Hall of Fame: Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, and now, Zac Brown Band. That’s because they hold the record for most consecutive sold out shows at the huge stadium in Boston. Luckily, the country rock band is coming to four amphitheaters in New York this summer, playing five shows, and tickets are still on sale for all.

    Zac Brown Band

In 2022, Zac Brown Band released their album The Comeback, which featured re-recorded tracks with some of their most acclaimed peers including James Taylor, Jimmy Buffett and Blake Shelton. Their 2023 tour, the “From the Fire Tour,” marks the band’s tenth North American tour.

The 2023 tour will take Zac Brown Band through over 30 shows across the country, as an ode to fans and to those who worked to pull the country back onto its feet from the crises of the past couple years, the band said.

  • Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top Announce Co-Headlining Tour with SPAC date

All-American southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd and their Texan counterpart, ZZ Top have announced their first co-headlining tour, aptly titled “The Sharp Dressed Simple Man Tour.” The two will hit 22 cities in North America over 2023 summer.

Since their debut over 50 years ago, Lynyrd Skynyrd has maintained its icon, proving the band has incredible staying power, capable of resonating with all generations. It’s the reason one can still hear “Sweet Home Alabama” at college parties, where the oldest person in the room just hit legal drinking age, as at family reunions, where “Free Bird” can be the only thing that can cut through the hazes of dementia. The band knows of their reach, and their primary mission in continued touring is to celebrate that legacy. The band’s current line-up features Johnny Van Zant, Rickey Medlocke, Mark “Sparky” Matejka, Michael Cartellone, Keith Christopher, Peter Keys, Carol Chase and Stacy Michelle, with select appearances from Gary Rossington, who still carries significant presence and creative influence within the band.

    Lynyrd Skynyrd ZZ Top

ZZ Top’s endurance in the scene is thanks to their mantra: “Tone, Taste and Tenacity.” The bluesy roots band made a name for themselves with their 1973 release Tres Hombres, and they made a name for the tour with their certified diamond track “Sharp Dressed Man.”

  • In Focus: Deer Tick Rock Putnam Place in Saratoga Springs

Deer Tick made their long awaited return to the Capital Region on Saturday December 10, playing a near sold out show at Putnam Place in Saratoga Springs.  The indie rockers last played the Capital Region in 2018

Deer Tick, from Providence, Rhode Island was originally born as the solo project of singer John McCauley.  McCauley secured the band’s line up early on, adding brothers Dennis (drums) and Christopher (bass).  McCauley would later add Ian O’neil (guitar and vocals) and firmly establish the band’s line up that would continue today.

Izzy Heltai kicked off the evening, playing a 35 minute set to an already packed room.  Heltai, from nearby Brookline, MA, boasted proudly of previously playing coffee shops in Saratoga Springs.  He and his band captivated the audience, performing a blend of mellow indie pop.  As the set wound to a close, Heltai’s bandmates left the stage, allowing for one final song, just Heltai and an acoustic guitar.

Izzy Heltai performs at Putnam Place on 12/10

After a brief intermission, Deer Tick took to the stage with a roar of approval from the crowd.  From the opening guitar strums of the party anthem “The Bump,” the crowd was fully engaged, belting out lyrics and dancing along.  The band dazzled with their Impressive harmonies, with McCauley yielding lead vocals to both O’neil and Dennis Ryan at times.  The band’s musical prowess was never more on display then when they performed a cover of the Muddy Waters blues rock classic, “You Shook Me.”  McCauley and O’neill traded guitar solos while the Ryan brothers kept pace.

In all, the band would deliver an impressive, nearly two-hour, career spanning set.  “Next year will be twenty years of this,” McCauley proclaimed proudly.   After exiting the stage briefly, the band would return for a three song encore, to the delight of the audience.  The band would end the show with a performance of Ashamed, the opening track on their 2007 debut album War Elephant.  “Sing along if you know it,” McCauley asked of the crowd, and he was not left disapointed.

  • Goo Goo Dolls 2023 “Big Night Out Tour” with O.A.R. to make 4 Stops Across New York

Multi-platinum, four-time GRAMMY-nominated rock band Goo Goo Dolls have revealed the details for their The Big Night Out Tour with O.A.R. The massive summer 2023 tour will kick off on July 24th, 2023 and roll through major outdoor venues in New York including Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater, Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, SPAC and St. Joseph’s Health Amphitheater.

Goo Goo Dolls Reveal Details for The Big Night Out Tour Summer 2023

On the upcoming tour, John Rzeznik shares, “I’m so proud to finally be able to announce our summer tour with a great band and our friends O.A.R. It’s going to be an amazing night of great music for everyone so BE THERE!!!”

O.A.R.’s Marc Roberge also added, “After working on separate albums in the same studio all last year, John and I realized pretty quickly how much fun we’d have on tour together.  We’re all band guys, love being musicians, and started planning a special night that all our fans would enjoy.”

The first album of their career to be produced by frontman John Rzeznik, Chaos in Bloom finds the band continuing to evolve just as they have for nearly four decades together. Consisting of 10 tracks including singles “Yeah, I Like You” and “You Are The Answer”, Chaos in Bloom is an album of biting sarcasm, stadium-ready choruses, and the type of spear-sharp songwriting that’s led them to becoming one of the most influential alternative rock groups of all time.

Formed in Buffalo during 1986 by John Rzeznik and Robby Takac, their newer album Chaos in Bloom finds the band continuing to evolve just as they have for nearly four decades together. Currently, front-man John Rzeznik is gearing up to take the iHeartRadio Theater stage in Los Angeles on December 13th for a special acoustic performance. The show will stream at 7pm PT/10pm ET on YouTube.com/iHeartRadio and broadcasted on iHeartMedia’s Hot AC stations.

  • Goodnight Moonshine Keeps the Spark Glowing at Caffe Lena

Married couple Molly Venter and Eben Pariser brought their project Goodnight Moonshine to Caffe Lena on a Saturday in early December 2022. The duo plays acoustic guitars and sings into a solitary mic. This highlights the spark of their harmonies, both vocally and from their instruments. The audience enjoyed the couple’s banter and playing throughout the show, joining in impromptu with backup harmonizing and also when asked to join in by the band.

Earlier that day, Goodnight Moonshine had performed for a group of young children at Caffe Lena. Transitioning to the adult crowd, the couple was having fun realizing that their child-safe filters were still on. Someone from the crowd asked, “How many wheels on the bus?” Venter was quick to reply, “As many as it takes to get them to stop crying!” This was one of many enjoyable moments throughout the evening.

    Molly Venter of Goodnight Moonshine

Venter dedicated a song called True North to her father. Lines such as “there went my peace of mind with you on the otherside” and “taught me to speak true” brought to light her love for her father. Venter’s soulful voice is a story-telling gem.

Later in the long set, Pariser asked the audience for participation. He asked those with low voices to sing a low “drown in my own tears” and the higher voices to sing a harmony to the same line. This was fun, and as always the crowd at Caffe Lena did not disappoint the artist.

For this listener, two songs highlight what connects this pair to their audience, and the rest of the world for that matter. One is about the couple’s twins called “Already Who You Are” and the other is called “Stars.” Both have lines about everything being “made of stars.” Speaking true indeed. Keep an eye out for Goodnight Moonshine next year and see them if you can. You can stream shows from Caffe Lena, as well. Information can be found here.

  • Quantum Cosmic w/ Eberwine in the Water

On Saturday, November 26th, two worlds collided and if you were lucky enough to be at Putnam Place in Saratoga Springs, you would know that doesn’t imply disaster. With Buffalo band Eberwine and 518-based Quantum Cosmic, it was an explosion of extraordinary talent, guitar riffs like you’ve never heard before, and a superjam by some of the best in the Northeast.

Annie in the Water drummer Josh West

    Eberwine in the Water

Opening things up Saturday night was Eberwine in the Water, or Annie in the Wine – the name is a matter of debate. With members from both Annie in the Water and Eberwine, the name mattered far less than what was happening up on that stage. Todd Eberwine and his bassist Pablo Zabrycki joined members from Annie in the Water including Brad Hester, Matt Richards, Josh West, and Michael Lashomb.

    eberwine quantum cosmic
    Eberwine in the Water

The combination was an absolutely genius idea and the opening set was an epic superjam, unlike anything I have ever seen. The members of each band seemed to pull something extraordinary out of the others; it was like they were chasing one another around the stage, but with music.

    eberwine quantum cosmic

    Eberwine

Eberwine is new to the jam scene, especially here in Eastern NY. However, if you haven’t checked them out yet, you are really missing out on something incredibly special. These guys are a rock band that jams. And with Todd Eberwine on lead guitar, I promise you haven’t heard anything like this before. I highly recommend that you check them out as soon as possible. Check out their upcoming tour dates here.

    eberwine quantum cosmic

    Quantum Cosmic

Local band Quantum Cosmic closed out the evening, which included members of Annie in the Water. I haven’t gotten to see this band since well before the pandemic, and I was pleasantly surprised that they have gotten even better since I last saw them perform — and they were amazing even when they were brand new. They brought guitarist Mark Edwards from Eberwine out for a sit in and he can absolutely shred.

  • Foreigner Announce Historic Farewell Tour, Four NY Stops

Foreigner has announced its Historic Farewell Tour, with stops at Darien Center, Saratoga Springs, Wantagh, and Syracuse.

    foreigner

Foreigner is hailed as one of the most famous rock acts in the world, with sold-out tours and album sales now exceeding 80 million. They are responsible for some of rock and roll’s most enduring anthems including “Juke Box Hero,” “Cold As Ice,” “Hot Blooded,” “Waiting For A Girl Like You,” “Feels Like The First Time,” and worldwide #1 hit, “I Want To Know What Love Is.”

The time has come. We have more or less lived our lives on the road for almost eighteen years.  We have always strived to give you our best and we intend to finish this the same way. Foreigner has a brilliant and increasingly demanding catalogue of songs to sing and I refuse to give them less than they deserve. So, we’re going to finish strong. I want to make it very clear how grateful and appreciative we are to our audiences all over the world who have supported this band.  I’m sure there may be occasions when we’ll do some special appearances, but I think the time is coming for us to live off the road. Thank you all so much!

    Lead singer, Kelly Hansen

Leader and founder Mick Jones also wrote in a statement “We will be presenting a show that I know will have the same enthusiasm as our very first appearances.  The tour will start this summer in America and we hope to get to every place that we have played over the last several years.”

Foreigner will continue its long-term initiative with the GRAMMY Museum Foundation to invite choirs to open the show with a live a cappella “Pitch Perfect” performance of Classic Rock songs. For more information about how to enter, go here

Loverboy will be opening for the band. The group has sold more than ten million albums, earning four multi-platinum plaques, including the four-million-selling “Get Lucky,” and a trio of double-platinum releases in their self-titled 1980 debut, 1983’s Keep It Up and 1985’s Lovin’ Every Minute of It.

The group still features the original line-up of vocalist Mike Reno, guitarist Paul Dean, drummer Matt Frenette and keyboardist Doug Johnson with bassist Ken “Spider” Sinnaeve replacing the late Scott Smith.

Tickets to Foreigner’s Historic Farewell Tour are on sale Nov. 18 here.

A young woman builds her life back after a stroke, two friends start a music shop in Haiti. A daughter finds peace and fulfillment in her final days with her mother, and a woman moves forward after homelessness. Each of these previously untold redemption stories involves a local non-profit organization, and each will be told in words and songs at Caffe Lena.

TrueSongs was created in 2019 by the Saratoga Springs music venue Caffe Lena to show how arts and social service organizations can work together to create a healthy, whole community. Now in its third year, TrueSongs will give five community members the chance to share their personal story with a live audience.

Each storyteller has been working with a songwriter who will follow the story with a compelling new song meant to bring out the emotional heart of the experience.

“We proudly partner with schools, churches and community centers throughout Haiti,” said Bill Cole, owner of Cole’s Woodwind Shop and founder of the non-profit Horns for Haiti. “The resilience of the Haitian people and their love of music has made it possible to implement projects during a very difficult time in this third world country. We’re providing musical instruments and supplies to hundreds of school children and also mentoring young entrepreneurs in starting their own sustainable businesses in the music industry.”
