North Carolina group Toubab Krewe are back and have announced their Spring 2022 tour. Over 18 dates, the band will showcase their full potential and bring fans more of the sound they love.
The Asheville natives have made a name for themselves by mixing traditional West African music with rock, jam and Appalachian elements, resulting in a unique sound that could capture anyone’s attention. Inspiration for their music is drawn from African greats like Ali Farka Toure, Orchestra Baobab and Salif Keita, while still maintaining their own identity.
Formed in 2005, they group has spent more than ten years together, perfecting their craft and going on trips to learn more about their main source of inspiration, Africa. They have journeyed to places like Guinea, the Ivory Coast and Mali.
The group has made appearances at a number of festivals including Bonnaroo, Rothbury and even Mali’s Festival In The Desert. They also continued to make music throughout the pandemic and have filmed a PBS ‘Echo Sessions’ special which is due to air later this year.

Denver-based guitar artist Marcus Rezak has set Winter 2022 tour dates to continue his latest EP ‘Truth in Sound.’ The tour kicks off in Colorado and will will wrap up in California. Shows will feature a variety of artist including Russ Lawton, Hayley Jane, Skull & Roses Festival, and many others.
In the middle of the tour Marcus Rezak will be performing at Nanola in Malta with Shred is Dead ft. Russ Lawton & Zdenek Gubb. Rezak’s 4-track sophomore EP features artist such as Russ Lawton who will be joining him on the Winter Tour.
Recording with Marcus for his new album Truth in Sound, felt like we had been playing together for years; cool songs with deep grooves, just the way I like it.

Folk and protest music legend Pete Seeger performed on The Late Show with David Letterman in 2008, performing “Take it From Dr. King,” a tribute to the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Seeger, who helped popularize the Civil Rights movement’s protest anthem “We Shall Overcome,” first met Dr. King in 1957 at Highlander Folk School, a social justice leadership training school and cultural center located in New Market, Tennessee. Seeger recalls the day:
I met her, I met all three of them that day. As a matter of fact there is a picture taken of us out standing out standing in front of a cinder block wall that they enlarged the barn which became their library and King, Abernathy, Rosa, Me and Miles and Zelphilia’s teenage daughter were there. Seeger would later write the song “Take It From Dr. King,” a tribute to the legacy of a man who led a non-violent movement that championed civil rights and equality.

On September 2, 1957, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., visited Highlander Folk School in Tennessee. Part of the school’s mission was to help prepare civil rights workers to challenge unjust laws and racist policies that discriminated against African Americans. The school also made a point of bringing blacks and whites together to share experiences and to learn from each other. It was a dangerous idea. At a time when southern laws kept blacks and whites segregated or separate, some white racists terrorized African Americans with deadly violence.
Dr. King delivered the main speech that day, honoring the school’s 25th anniversary. As part of the meeting, folk singer Pete Seeger got up with his banjo. He plucked out a song he had learned at Highlander, and led the audience in singing it.
Later that day, Dr. King found himself humming the tune in the car. “There’s something about that song that haunts you,” he said to his companions.
That song in question was the protest movement song “We Shall Overcome.”

Folk-rock veterans Midlake are back with their new single ‘Bethel Woods’ from their upcoming album For The Sake of Bethel Woods. The official music video stars actor Michael Pena and is directed by filmmaker Brantley Gutierrez, who has also worked with the likes of Paul McCartney and Diplo.
Inspiration for “Bethel Woods” came after the discovery of a documentary still of Midlake keyboardist Jesse Chandler’s father, Dave, at Woodstock 1969. Combining this photo with the idea of an eternal paradise, the song was written from Dave’s point of view with a hopeful message that we might all one day return to our special places to be with the ones we love.
Director Gutierrez plays with these ideas in the music video by incorporating a ghost story concept, allowing for Michael Pena to showcase the emotions people experience when running through old memories.

For the first episode of 2022, SNL welcomed Ariana Debose to host, along with Jack Antonoff’s Bleachers as musical guest. Debose won a Golden Globe earlier this week for her performance as Anita in Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story” and gained additional honors as the 200th woman since 1975 to host the NBC variety show.
During her monologue, Debose was joined by veteran cast member Kate McKinnon for a medley of “West Side Story” numbers, including “Tonight,” “Something’s Coming” and “America;” during “I Feel Pretty” the pair fist bumped following the famous line “I feel pretty and witty and gay!”

The show began with “Message from the President” and featured new cast member James Austin Johnson as President Joe Biden blaming the spread of the omicron variant of COVID-19 on too many people seeing “Spiderman: No Way Home.” Biden at one point wondered if there were other President Biden’s in the multiverse, leading Pete Davidson to arrive as a Biden variant from another universe.
Local business commercials in the New York Metro area were spoofed by Davidson and Chloe Fineman, who advertised their shop for prom and formal wear in “Formal Emporium,” with featured player Andrew Dismukes as their nerdy son.

Chris Redd made his debut as new New York City Mayor Eric Adams, in a NY1 press conference sketch where Adams made his arrival to the podium with Mase’s “Feel So Good”as walk on music. Adams bragged about the swag he brings to the office and gave stark comparison to the predecessor, who was never parodied on SNL in his eight prior years in office.

Jack Antonoff’s NYC-based indie-pop group Bleachers performed an energetic “How Dare You Want More,” off 2021’s Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night, and was performed on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon last year.Mark ‘Rat’ Ratner Antonoff was joined by singer-songwriter Blu DeTiger on bass, Claud on keys and Rick Antonoff, Jack’s dad, on guitar.

The Sound of Music has been a regular musical sketch number on SNL, appearing in sketches twice in the last four years. Debose’s Broadway chops were on display in “Governess” where a widower, Kenan Thompson, hired DeBose to teach his children, who sang a take on “Do-Re-Mi.”
For Bleachers’ second song, Antonoff’s 2020 collaboration with Bruce Springsteen, “Chinatown,” was featured, with Claud shifting to guitar. Antonoff recently confirmed that he will release a new Bleachers album, the group’s fourth, by the end of the year.

Rapper Roddy Ricch was originally scheduled as musical guest this evening but had to withdraw due to members of his team being exposed to COVID-19. SNL returns on January 22 with host Will Forte and musical guest Måneskin.
One sketch that was cut for time, “All On Me,” features a rapper (Chris Redd) performs a song with his entourage (Ariana DeBose, rapper Freddie Gibbs, Kenan Thompson) after signing a major deal.
Zac Brown Band has announced their “Out in the Middle Tour” for summer 2022, including stops at Saratoga Springs Performing Arts Center (SPAC), Citi Field in Queens and En-Joie Golf Course in Endicott.
The “Out in the Middle Tour” will showcase the band’s old-school country roots and southern-rock style, serving as an ode to their country pride and life’s simple pleasures. Zac Brown Band “Out in the Middle Tour” 2022 Dates
On January 26, the Binghamton Philharmonic and AudioClassics will be honoring Fritz and Marianne Wallenberg with a presentation of historic performance recordings. Wallenberg was the founder of the orchestral group, which would eventually come to be known as the Binghamton Philharmonic.

Originally referred to as The Community Symphony Society, and later the Binghamton Symphony and Choral Society, Wallenberg would help it grow into the renowned organization it is today. Past orchestra members and students of Wallenberg have named him as an integral part of the community and someone who has reached many people during his time as a conductor.
The twenty years of recordings were given to the Philharmonic during Summer 2020 and the organization has worked to raise funds to digitize the recordings for open access to the public. There are currently a number of recordings available on the Wallenberg Legacy youtube channel and fundraising efforts for the campaign are still underway.
Made by Marvin Fred Kelly, Jr of Custom Recording Studio, the recordings range from a Christmas performance in 1958 all the way through to 1978. The presentation will take place during a benefit at the Kilmer Mansion. Tickets, as well as more event information, are available here.
Annie in the Water have announced a slate of winter tour dates, ahead of the release of their forthcoming studio album, Sun at Dawn, set to be released Friday, March 4th.

Recorded directly to tape at Artfarm Recording in the heart of the Hudson Valley and mixed by Corey Hayward, Sun at Dawn represents the band’s time spent independently at home, together in the Adirondacks, and on the road again with their fans.
Our forthcoming album Sun at Dawn represents the paths we took in life as individuals and how it brought us together in the band. The album consists of songs that were written along these separate life experiences and are joined by songs that were written together as a band. The sun at dawn illustrates that this is just the beginning of our adventures musically and as friends.
We have a lot planned for 2022. Beyond releasing our newest album we are lining up bigger tours than we have had in recent years. Pop-rock trio Hanson announced their Red Green Blue Tour to follow a release of their new album Red Green Blue, with stops at Empire Live and The Beacon Theatre.
The band of brothers is a three-time Grammy-nominated pop-rock trio, selling over 16 million albums, and performing for over three million fans.

Created in 1992 in Tulsa, OK, Hanson established a regional following before getting international fame, with a string of top 40 singles.
The new album Red Green Blue will be released on May 20, and it will mark 30 years of the band being together. Speaking about the milestone, they said this.
Going into our 30th year as a band we felt like it was imperative we continue to tell our story like only we can, and telling stories in ways that will continue to challenge us to grow and give people new reasons to listen. Red Green Blue is about sharing what has made us a band that has been able to weather so many storms.
Hanson’s tour will be stopping all over the globe, with two NYS stops. One will be at Empire Live in Albany and the other at the Beacon Theatre in NYC.
The band plans to release singles to accompany the album, one on February 11, one on March 11, and one on April 15.

Broadway announced new regulations requiring full COVID-19 vaccination for kids 5 and older on January 10, in the wake of the surging omicron strain sweeping across the country.

The new regulations will begin on January 29, 2022 and will involve all 41 theaters of the Broadway League requiring full vaccinations for children ages 5 to 11 for all performances. To be fully vaccinated, the guest attending a performance must be at least 14 days after their second dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine or at least 14 days after their single dose of a one-dose vaccine. The owners and operators of all 41 Broadway theaters who are part of the Broadway League also have extended their mask and vaccine requirements through at least April 30, 2022.
Children under five years of age, who can not be vaccinated yet, must have a negative PCR test performed by a medical provider within 72 hours of the performance start time or a negative rapid antigen test taken within six hours of the performance start time to be allowed entry to the event. Also, the “Buy With Confidence” program has also been extended, allowing for flexible exchanges and refunds due to COVID-19 incidences.
Being vaccinated means on the date of the performance a guest is at least 14 days after their second dose of a two dose COVID-19 vaccine OR at least 14 days after their single dose of an approved single dose COVID-19 vaccine. Any guest whose last vaccine dose (excluding boosters) was fewer than 14 days before the date of performance must, in addition to meeting these requirements, also present proof of (a) a negative COVID-19 PCR test within 72 hours of the performance time, or (b) a negative COVID-19 antigen test within 6 hours of performance time. Proof of vaccination must come directly from the healthcare provider that performed the vaccination. Guests may display proof on a smartphone or present a physical copy. New York State residents, or anyone who received a COVID-19 vaccine in New York State, may present proof through the use of the Excelsior Pass (for more details, visit epass.ny.gov) or any other digital app.
Currently the regulations through January 28, 2022 stand as guests 12 and older will need to be Vaccinated (as defined below) with an FDA or WHO authorized vaccine AND present a government-issued photo ID such as a driver’s license or passport. (Guests 12-18 may use a government-issued ID or school ID – no photo required.) Children ages 5-11 may enter the theatre only when (1) accompanied by an adult who complies with the theatre’s vaccination entry requirements, and (2) has proof of at least one dose of an FDA or WHO approved vaccine. For international guests two doses of any “mix and match” combination of an FDA or WHO approved COVID-19 vaccine are acceptable.
