The lineup for the Freedom Park 2022 Summer Concert Series in Scotia has been announced, with the series beginning on June 18 and running through August 28.
We are so excited for another great summer at the park. Each year as we put together our lineup, I am amazed at the talent we have in our area. Our foundation focuses on local musicians, as well as local businesses, and we are truly proud of that effort.

Concerts are set for every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday throughout the summer, with shows taking place rain or shine. Most shows start at 7 p.m. at the amphitheater located on Schonowee Avenue across from Collins Park.
As we do each year, we have a great season of rock, country, jazz, classical and more. But we couldn’t do it without our fabulous local businesses who support us each year, Jumpin’ Jack’s who is our Season Sponsor once again, and our media sponsors. Freedom Park Scotia will open it’s 2022 Summer Concert Series with a High School Rock Showcase on Saturday, June 18th with a variety of rock bands from Scotia-Glenville High School, and headliner Screaming Orphans on Wednesday, June 22nd. The River, a classic rock band, will perform on Friday, July 1st before Jumpin’ Jack’s annual fireworks display.
Attendees are encouraged to bring low chairs or a blanket to use at the outdoor amphitheater. A dance floor is located just below the stage for those looking to get down. Parking is available in Collins Park on with ADA complaint parking on the corner of Schonowee Avenue and Kiwanis Way. Concert-goers are asked to not park in the Jumpin’ Jack’s parking lot.

As we saunter auspiciously into the sunny season, New Yorkers will be hoping for another memorable summer. In light, Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp. (MSG Entertainment), has released its list of events between all of their MSG affiliated venues. 2022’s “Summer of Live” presentation will be split between Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall, the Beacon Theatre and Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden, as there will be more than 75 live entertainment events from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
“Summer of Live” kicked-off with a performance from, The Who, on May 26 at Madison Square Garden. A quick turnaround between the 27-29 saw the Harvard Athletic Complex play host to the Boston Calling Music Festival this Memorial Day Weekend. There, fans got the chance to rock out with headliners Nine Inch Nails, The Strokes and Metallica.
From there, MSG Entertainment brings the heat with a jam-packed line up of events at Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall, the Beacon Theatre and Hulu Theater at MSG. From concerts and comedy, to professional darts and boxing, marquee performances will include Lil Baby and Chris Brown on July 22 as part of their “One of Them Ones Tour.” MSG Entertainment will also be host to two Top Rank Boxing fights on June 11 and 18. While popular podcasts, Pod Save America and My Dad Wrote A Porno will also grace the Beacon Theatre stage.

Each summer in the Adirondacks there is an abundance of music series in the towns and villages that dot the Adirondack Park. One of those towns, Tupper Lake, features two free music series on Monday and Wednesday evenings throughout the summer, if you are able to escape to this remote outpost in the Adirondacks.
Tupper Lake is located in Franklin County, located within the Adirondack Park. Tupper Lake makes up the Tri-Lakes region along with nearby Saranac Lake and Lake Placid. The village was first settled during the town’s lumber production period in 1844, making the village the top lumber producer in New York State.
Since 1976, Tupper Lake has been celebrating its artists and artisans that make up the small community. Before Tupper Arts, there was the Tupper Lake Arts Council, then named Tupper Lake Presents. Throughout the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s, the Arts Council continued strong, most notably starting the annual tradition that is the Tupper Lake Arts Show, now entering its 49th year.
In 2018, current Tupper Arts Vice President Louise McNally headed the planning to re-establish the Arts Council as the community entity it is today. Along with 11 board members, the Arts Council was saved and renamed as Tupper Arts and incorporated as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization to allow for the collection of donations to start strengthening the arts involvement in Tupper Lake. Tupper Arts has grown and set up a tradition of year-round programming to involve the community and provide easy access to the arts, through gallery shows, classes for all ages, live performances, and community events.
The Tupper Lake Municipal Park is located on Demars Boulevard off Route 3. This park is the center of the Tupper Lake community. The park is home to the best sunset views, a waterfront walkway, picnic table area, two covered fishing overlooks, public boat slips, playground, sports fields, skateboard park, and much more.
All summer hows at Tupper Lake Municipal Park are FREE, with shows starting at various times, and ending by 8:45pm (9pm on the 4th of July only).

July 4 – Night School & Spring Street
Night School is a five piece dance-rock band from Tupper Lake, performing some of the most popular dance hits from yesteryear and today, everything from The Beatles to Talking Heads, from Rick James to The B-52’s. Spring Street is a unique mix of old and new rock, blues and strong vocal harmonies make Spring Street a must-see when visiting the Tri-Lakes area.

July 11 – Ursa and the Major Key
Ursa and the Major Key is an indie/psychedelic rock band from Plattsburgh, NY. Their first album, Daytime/Nighttime, is out now on Cricket Records. Originating from the scenic Adirondack region of New York State, the foursome infuse influences from classic artists including The Beatles, The Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, and The Band, as well as modern artists like Whitney, Beach Fossils, and Levitation Room.

July 18 – Geo Beat
Geo Beat Quartet celebrates musical traditions ranging from Jazz and Bossa Nova to World Beat with a few pop standards and original compositions. Crispin Catricala leads the group on guitar, Dave Casner plays Vibes, Michael Hurt is on Bass and Percussion Master Brian Melick rounds out the ensemble with a variety of instruments to bring infectious grooves and harmonious melodies to the stage.

July 25 – Darkside Skinny Dippers
Darkside Skinny Dippers, often known more affectionately as the world’s greatest hashtag #DSKINNYD, evolved into a ferocious rock band that defined the course of music history in the late 70’s into the mid 80’s. Recommended by 0 out of 10 doctors, the band all but guarantees a baby boom that would rival the mid 40’s-mid 60’s. In short, #DSKINNYD is best described as diverse rock and roll with attitude! There’s a little something for everyone.

August 1 – Shakespeare in the Park: Midsummer Night’s Dream
The Adirondack Lakes Summer Theatre Festival returns with an abridged A Midsummer Night’s Dream A family-friendly production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream will feature all the beloved characters of the play, including the Royals, the Rustics, the Lovers, and, of course, the Fairies. This abridged version, directed by Karen Lordi-Kirkham, will run between an hour and fifteen minutes and an hour and a half and takes place outdoors.

The incredibly talented duo of Jilly Martin and Ryan Brooks Kelly have become the next must-see act from New England to Nashville. Over the years, they’ve been featured as support acts for many traditional, and mainstream country artists. Standouts in today’s crossover country music scene, Jilly & Ryan’s songs bridge the boundary between traditional and new country.

August 15 – The Big Takeover
Fronted by the charismatic Jamaican-born singer and songwriter Nee Nee Rushie, the seven-piece New York band The Big Takeover plays original music that is rooted in and reverent toward the genres and rhythms of Jamaican pop: reggae, rocksteady, ska. They are devotees of Desmond Dekker and the way the old school did it. At the same time, The Big Takeover crosses lines and blends traditions like global pop fusionists. Their deceptively complex arrangements and big hooks connect with the spirit of Motown and the uptown sophistication of the 21st century retro soul and R&B revival scene.

Influences include the Boswell Sisters, Anette Hanshaw, and Django Reinhardt as well as Vaudeville and Hawaiian music of the early 20th century.

Tereson Dupuy and Eric Pasternak make up this beautiful, Adirondack grown acoustic duo called Blessid Dirt. Both singer-songwriters, their original music is ripe with life experiences most can relate to. Classified as heavy-folk, they have been influenced by greats such as John Prine and Led Zepplin alike. Eric, a native New Yorker, dazzles listeners with some wicked dirty strings and brilliant lyrical balance. While Tereson, a transplant from New Orleans, adds a bit of soulful Southern charm making this duo something to be experienced.
The daily lineup for the 10th anniversary Peach Music Fest has been released, with a lineup that makes this installment head and shoulders above past years.
The four-day live music and camping experience returns to Montage Mountain in Scranton, PA, from Thursday, June 30 through Sunday, July 3.
The Peach Music Festival began in 2012 as the first-ever Allman Brothers Band-inspired festival in the Northeast and quickly evolved into one of the most highly-anticipated summer musical events loved by music enthusiasts from across the nation.
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Peach Music Festival, Trey Anastasio Band and The Black Crowes will headline The Festival, and be joined by Billy Strings, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Goose, the Revivalists, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, and the reunion of The Word.
Additionally, Trouble No More, featuring Brandon “Taz” Niederaurer (Guitar, Vocals), Daniel Donato (Guitar, Vocals), Dylan Niederaurer (Bass Guitar), Jack Ryan (Drums), Lamar Williams Jr. (Vocals), Nikki Glaspie (Drums), Peter Levin (Keys) and Roosevelt Collier (Pedal Steel Guitar), will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Festival’s founders, the Allman Brothers Band’s seminal “Eat A Peach” album.
The Peach Music Festival, which was inspired by the legendary music of the Allman Brothers Band, will feature founding member Jaimoe with Jaimoe and Friends, as well as Friends of the Brothers, and Brother & Sister (featuring Butch’s kids, Melody and Vaylor).

Over the next three months, CMAC in Canandaigua will host 20 concerts, with an emphasis on country, classic rock, and unique performances not found elsewhere in New York State this summer. The dates for CMAC summer concerts features events scheduled from the end of May to the beginning of September.
The Lumineers are a Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum folk rock band best known for their 2012 single, “Ho Hey.” On tour in promotion of their January album BRIGHTSIDE, Ohio folk band CAAMP will feature as a guest act.

Chesney’s decorated country career includes twelve studio albums that have hit number one on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart, and 31 number one hit singles on the Hot Country Songs Chart. Touring in promotion of his 2020 album Here and Now, guest contribution will come from fellow country musician Carly Pierce, whose three studio albums have all hit top 10 on the Top Country chart.
Fitz and The Tantrums are a LA pop group best known for multi-platinum singles “Out of My League” from 2013, and “HandClap” from 2016. They’ll be joint headlining with St. Paul & The Broken Bones, an eight-piece soul group from Birmingham, AL, while Nashville singer-songwriter Devon Gilfillian serves as a guest performer.

Maren Morris is a Grammy-winning pop/country singer-songwriter. With seven platinum singles, she’s best known for 2018 hit song “The Middle” with Zedd & Grey, which reached number 5 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. Nashville-based country singer Luke Bryan is similarly accomplished, with his last five records hitting number one on the Top Country Albums chart and having 22 number one hit singles on the US Country Airplay chart. He’ll be joined by fellow country artists Riley Green and fellow Nashville native Mitchell Tenpenny.

Same goes for Sam Hunt, a Georgia native whose two studio albums have both hit number one on the Top Country Albums Chart with nine of his eleven singles taking number one on the Country Airplay Chart. He will be joined by two fellow country musicians, the Tennessee-born Dustin Lynch and Canadian singer Mackenzie Porter.

San Francisco rock band Journey needs no introduction. Best known for their culturally ubiquitous 1981 single “Don’t Stop Believin’,” their generational popularity also stems from other 80s hits such as “Any Way You Want It” and “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart).” Journey’s nearly 50-year career is marked by eight platinum studio albums.
Country singer-songwriter Chris Stapleton has won eight Grammy’s since his 2015 debut album “Traveller” with all four studio records of his so far topping Billboard’s Top Country Albums Chart. Guest performers include country musicians Elle King and Madeline Edwards of California origin.

The famed songwriting duo of over 50 years has 18 studio albums under their belt, with eight of them certified platinum and six of them certified gold. Six singles of theirs have topped the Billboard Hot 100, and in 2014 the duo was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The newest track promoting his new album HAHA BITCH! slated for July 8 release, features co-writing from Levy Okun and production from AGM3, a duo composed of Andrew Greacen and Max McKee.

A simple dance pop song, “love will return” focuses on moving past personal hardship in aim of finding success and joy in the future with light, spacy verses contrasting loud, funky hooks. “Living in a bubble, it all seems like trouble, you just gotta think free,” Jones sings during the first pre-chorus.
Remember Jones’ vocal talents are on display with this track, flashing hints of Michael Jackson along the way.
The track’s premier source of flare comes from the aptly named Horn Section on well, horns. Their presence on the final two choruses amplifies the already funky song, only building its optimistic energy until reaching a conclusion.
“love will return” precedes a busy upcoming summer for Remember Jones. The release of HAHA BITCH! will also be supported by his first ever Summer Slay! Festival at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ on July 9. Also serving as a birthday celebration for Jones, a New Jersey native, it is one of many nationwide stops for his ongoing won’t you be my hater? TOUR.
Other acts of the festival include Quincy Mumford’s Lifted Laboratory, a long time collaborator with Jones, as well as Tor Miller, Zoe Sparks, and Levy Okun.
The event will be hosted by drag queens Jolina Jasmine, Miss Paradise of 2016 & 2021, as well as Tastie and Morrigan von Haunt, hosts of drag nights at Georgie’s Bar in Asbury Park. The three will also have performances of their own during the festival.
The event will include giveaways and audience-involved drag makeovers, and local restaurants Larry Cadillac & Mutiny BBQ will promote the festival with special menu items at their locations.
The New York Guitar Festival is back with in-person performances after two years of being streamed online. The shows will be held in The Greene Space, WNYC’s multimedia performance venue in Soho from June 14 to 17. Featured performers include Bill Frisell, Vernon Reid, and more.
The festival was founded in 1999 by David Spelman, the Artistic Director of the festival, and WNYC’s John Schaefer, host of the “New Sounds” radio series. The main focus of the festival is the use of the guitar, and how it is in many different genres of music.
Glenn Jones has a background in rock and experimental music but is best known for keeping the flame of “American Primitive” music alive, which is a folk-based style. Jones’s music is full of unexpected textures through his uses of capos, half-capos, and a variety of tunings. Vieux Farka Toure is known as “the Hendrix of the Sahara,” with roots in playing West African music. He has released five solo albums rooted in the sounds and rhythms of West African blues.
Gyan Riley started his career playing with his father’s band Terry Riley and The All-Stars. Now, he works with Grammy-award-winning artists and plays different genres, from classical to spacey electric guitar excursions. Bill Frisell is regarded as one of the best guitarists of our time, and he is the subject of a new biography called Bill Frisell: Beautiful Dreamer. Luke Bergman is part of Bill Frisell’s Harmony Quartet and is a bassist, guitarist, and pedal steel player.
Badi Assad is a guitarist, singer, and percussionist who also uses the guitar as a percussion instrument. She was the co-curator of the 2014 edition of the New York Guitar Festival. Badi is also the younger sister of the great Brazilian guitar duo of Sergio & Odair Assad. Vernon Reid is one of Rolling Stone magazine’s 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time. He gained fame as the main songwriter for the rock band Living Colour, and as a founder of the Black Rock Coalition. Marta Pereira da Costa plays Portuguese fado music and writes her own music and collaborates with other musicians. She is among the few women playing this type of music, as it is mostly dominated by men. William Tyler is a folk, indie, country, and electronic music artist. His work offers a gothic, often celestial take on American roots music.
Chuck Garvey shared a health update this week on Podcrash as he continues to recover from a stroke he suffered in November 2021.
A new podcast from the band, Podcrash features all members addressing all things moe. In the new episode, Harvey shared that he was first and foremost ‘getting some speech going on’ as the most important part of recovery. Garvey went on to say “I just wanted to talk. When I woke up I just wanted to see everyone that I’ve ever known.”
It was great to see you guys, but I couldn’t say what I wanted to say so that was hard. Working on the speech is because I want to talk to everybody and now all the stuff … getting back on my feet was a big thing so I could get out of a chair was the next thing. And then the next thing was getting my hand to work so I could play.

Oswego Mayor Billy Barlow has released the schedule for three free music series in The Port City of Central New York this summer. Free Public Music series will be held on Wednesdays at Brietbeck Park, Thursdays at Veteran’s Stage on the Oswego River, and Fridays at Water Street Square.
The Oswego Summer Concert Series has grown each and every year, drawing larger and larger crowds and new musical acts. We have an exciting lineup of bands this year, with local fan favorites and several new groups to the Oswego area. We have exciting things happening in downtown Oswego and I hope the Summer Concert Series will draw both residents and visitors alike, to enjoy quality live music, experience downtown, our Farmer’s Market and see our beautiful waterfront.

The Sunset Concert Series at Brietbeck Park will feature Concert Bands and Jazz Bands. Music begins at 7 or 7:30pm, and is sponsored by the City of Oswego and the Oswego County Musicians Collaborative.

Free concerts are held on Thursday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in Veteran’s Park on the Oswego River. Concertgoers are allowed to bring chairs and coolers to Veteran’s Park. The open container ordinance is lifted for the event.

Mayor Barlow also has announced the “Concerts @ the Square” schedule and lineup for Summer 2022. The concert series will be held at the Water Street Square downtown pocket park located between Water Street and West First Street in Oswego.
Before the pandemic interrupted the “Concerts @ the Square” concert series, the new pocket park was serving as a great venue for live music and other outdoor programming opportunities since we built and opened in 2019. Now, we hope to restart and grow the series, bringing more people downtown to experience our improvements and support small businesses. The concerts at Water Street Square provide a great opportunity to hear some live music from local musicians and enjoy all downtown Oswego has to offer.

Beginning in July, live music will be held in the park on Friday evenings from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. All concerts are free and open to the public. The concert area falls within the newly created “social district” in the city so alcohol purchased from nearby establishments will be permitted.

Buffalo musician Ellen Pieroni has a new original project that will makes its debut at Jack Rabbit on Friday, May 27th.
Ellen Pieroni & the Encyclopedia of Soul – or EoS – presents a refreshing brand of smooth-infused soul jazz. While the group is inspired by artists such as Grover Washington, Stuff, Freddie Hubbard, and the Crusaders, EoS places an emphasis on new, original music.
EoS was founded by Pieroni (saxophone, compositions), James Benders (bass), and Adam Bronstein (guitar) earlier this year over a mutual love of the band Stuff.
I was a bandleader in my first band, Ellen Pieroni Quartet. For almost a decade, I bounced around town as a side woman in a multitude of projects. In many ways, EoS is a culmination of all of these experiences I’ve had playing various genres locally – trad jazz, bluegrass, afrobeat, jam, r&b. It took me that long to realize I wanted to be a bandleader again. I think the Encyclopedia of Soul is the band I’ve wanted to have all along.

In April, EoS played a session at The Beat Barn – a studio and creative space in Orchard Park owned by Buffalo-based drummer Joe Goretti. The founding trio was joined by Steve Davis (keys) and local legend Darryl Washington (drums). The band recorded a few tracks and a video that will be dropping soon.
EoS has since been playing with a new configuration, which include Tyler James (keys) and Isaiah Gethers (drums), with a live rehearsal at The Gypsy Parlor on Grant Street in May and another on May 24.
The Encyclopedia of Soul is a massive passion project for Ellen Pieroni, formerly of Folkfaces, Intrepid Travelers, Buffalo Afrobeat Orchestra, Blue Stone Groove, and more.
