  • Inaugural MetaMoon Music Festival Will Kick Off at Barclays in November

The Inaugural MetaMoon Music Festival will kick off at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on November 26th to celebrate Asian talent and culture. Featuring pop star Lay Zhang, 9m88, Karencici, ØZI and Sury Su, as well hosted by MC Jin, the festival is their arena debut in the United States and a great opportunity to enjoy Asian popular music.

    MetaMoon Music Festival

The MetaMoon Music Festival, a single-day festival and cultural experience to celebrate the Asian American diaspora which is founded by Hong Kong-based Graceful Media and produced in partnership with Live Nation. Its mission is to bridge the gap between Asia and the United States and show that music is a universal language since the underrepresentation of Asian community in American entertainment.

Graceful Media set out to create a platform in the United States for Asian and Asian American artists, to have a space where their fans can connect and celebrate while discovering new music and artists. The large Asian-American population made Barclays Center the perfect host venue for the festival.

“There is a great need for stronger Asian representation in pop culture and in the media, and the mission of MetaMoon Music Festival is to give artists the ability to shine from a prominent stage, in the heart of Brooklyn. Now more than ever, music is truly a global language, and talent, no matter where they come from, will resonate with fans across cultures if given the opportunity to share their passion and creativity.”

    – Grace Chen, Founder of Graceful Media

The wonderful performers, including Lay Zhang, from K-pop super group EXO, will be headlining the event, along with 9m88, KarenciciØZI, and Sury Su. More artists and special guests are expected to be announced and MC Jin will be hosting the evening. Tickets go on sale to the public on Friday, July 15 at 10 a.m. EST and can be purchased online.

Live Nation is committed to creating endless opportunities to connect artists of all genres and backgrounds with their fans. The inaugural MetaMoon Music Festival will inspire and create new and exciting opportunities for many of today’s Asian artists, from both here and abroad, to shine brightly, and engage their fans in this epic and unforgettable event.

    – Geoff Gordon, Regional President, Live Nation Northeast

  • Grateful Dead Put MSG On Full Display With New ‘In And Out Of The Garden’ Box Set

An upcoming Grateful Dead live release is set to feature six previously unreleased shows from the early ’80s at The World’s Most Famous Arena, Madison Square Garden. In And Out Of The Garden will contain two shows each from Dead runs at MSG in 1981, 1982 and 1983, totaling 17 CDs in all. It captures a period of time after the band’s 1980 release Go To Heaven, while songs for 1987’s In The Dark like “Hell In A Bucket” and “West L.A. Fadeaway” were very much still works in progress.

In addition to six classic Dead shows from MSG, the box set will also feature customized art work by Dave Van Patten on the cover and detailed liner notes from award-winning music journalist David Fricke who explores the band’s storied connection to the city.

The Dead’s affinity for New York City…was instant and arguably their most profound with any city aside from San Francisco

    – David Fricke

The early ’80s period of Grateful Dead history is such a vibrant one, with the recent introduction of Brent Mydland as the new keyboardist into the mix. Mydland’s vocals and effervescent energy behind the piano energized the band at this point their storied career, invigorating older material like “The Wheel,” and “Eyes of The World.” He also gave the band more musical flexibility, which encouraged them to dust off treasures like “Dupree’s Diamond Blues” and “Crazy Fingers” from the proverbial shelves.

This vintage celebration of Dead history at MSG is numbered and limited to an edition of 12,500. The release is set to drop on September 23, but is available for pre-order right now from Dead.net for a price of $179.98.

A digital download option for In And Out Of The Garden is also available.

The Dead didn’t play the Garden until 1979, almost the midpoint of their performing career. but once they got rolling, they made it a home away from home, playing 10 shows in the next 15 years. These performances from 1981, 1982, and 1983 are six of the best the Dead played at the Garden, any of which could have been released on their own

    – Grateful Dead Archivist David Lemieux

The six Grateful Dead MSG shows that are featured on this release include:

    1981: Madison Square Garden March 9th & 10th

    1982: Madison Square Garden September 20th & 21st

    1983: Madison Square Garden October 11th & 12th

If the near 30-minute “Help” > “Slipknot” >”Franklin’s” sequence from the 10/12/83 show as seen below is any indication, this is one Deadheads and beyond are going to love.

  • Mrs. Henry Announce “Chest Fever Tour” Coming To Rochester and Brooklyn In August

San Diego band Mrs. Henry annouced their Chest Fever tour dates to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the release of legendary rock group The Band‘s Rock of Ages album. The last two stops of this tour will be at Photo City Music Hall in Rochester on August 14th and The Sultan Room in Brooklyn on August 15.

Mrs. Henry is led by Dan Cervantes (Howlin Rain guitarist + Blind Owl label owner), and is rounded out by Jody Bagley (Vocals and Keyboards), Blake Dean (Vocals and Bass), and Chad Lee (Vocals and Drums).  After West Coast tour in 2015, the group spent the last five years on the road building a reputation for their brand. In turn, they established individual credits including Howlin’ Rain, The Schizophonics, The Silent Comedy.

    Chest Fever by Stacey Webb

The idea of Chest Fever started in 2017 when Mrs. Henry set their sights on recreating the historic 1976 night where The Band documented their legendary final performance The Last Waltz. The stress in the one-year planning and rehearsing nearly broke up the band. However, they entirely performed the Last Waltz on November 26, 2017.

The group performed The Last Waltz again in November 2021 at Solana Beach. After the sold out performance, the group set out to continue their sights on honoring The Band and their impact on rock and roll.

Now, with the official approval from The Band itself, the group is back to recreate The Band’s Rock of Ages live album to mark the 50th anniversary of it. Rock of Ages, a collection of live recordings from The Band’s four night 1971 residency at the Academy of Music in New York City featured Howard Johnson, Snooky Young, Joe Farrell, J.D. Parron, Earl McIntyre and suprised guest Bob Dylan, underscored The Band’s ambitious on-stage vision, and further cemented their place in rock music history.

Each night Chest Fever will be performing songs from Rock of Ages, including “Caledonia Mission,” “The Unfaithful Servant,” “Get Up Jake,” and of course “Chest Fever.” They will additionally be cycling in a number of deeper cuts from The Band’s oeuvre, including “Rockin’ Chair,” “Time To Kill,” as well as classics originally left out Rock of Ages including “Up on Cripple Creek,” “I Shall Be Released,” and more.

“The first time I heard The Band was when I was a young kid seeing The Last Waltz over Thanksgiving. My Dad played the video or rented from Blockbuster at the time, that just lit a fire.

    Mrs. Henry member Dan Cervantes

The group will be performing alongside local horn sections from each city to recreate the iconic contributions from Johnson, Young, Farrel, McIntyre, and Parron, while additionally featuring a special guest in select towns to perform the 4 song Bob Dylan set from the original residency. Each concert will feature slight variations to give audiences a unique experience.

The band will feature an all-star group of accomplished and celebrated players at the final tour stop at Brooklyn’s Sultan Room on August 15th, including trumpeter Eric Biondo, sousaphone and tuba player John Altieri, saxophonist Stuart Bogie, and trombonist Dave ‘Smoota’ Smith.

  • Schroon Lake Live Presents a Summer Boathouse Concert Series

A variety of music is presented by the Schroon Lake Arts Council this summer, with “Schroon Lake Live — a World of Music on Schroon Lake.”

Located near the historic 1874 Boathouse Theater overlooking Schroon Lake, “The Pearl of the Adirondacks,” the Schroon Lake Arts Council brings affordable events for all residents and visitors in the North Country, and as such, all concerts and programs are free this summer.

The concert series, which began back in the 1970’s, has long featured the best in traditional folk, bluegrass and Adirondack roots music, most often performed in the intimate and acoustically wonderful 1874 Boathouse Theater.

After there were no concerts in the summer of 2020 due to Covid, we were one of the few series that returned to live music during summer 2021. That said, we had a wonderful season last year, featuring 5 concerts as well as our Adirondack Folk Festival.

Dr. David Namerow, President, Schroon Lake Arts Council

Forging a unique affiliation with the Schroon Lake Chamber of Commerce, the Arts Council can now reduce costs and share marketing with the Chamber, allowing for greater collaboration on all arts programs. “The businesses and residents of Schroon Lake have stepped up to the plate with increased donations and sponsorships”, said Dr. Namerow.

On Wednesday nights, the local Chamber of Commerce sponsors their popular Twilight Dance and music programs from 7 to 9 pm outdoors and FREE for all. “We are very proud of our musical history and want people to know that if you want Live music in the summer, Schroon Lake is your destination.”, said Dr. Namerow.

A special family and children’s concert will be held on Saturday morning, July 16, at 11 am in the Boathouse, featuring Mark Rust, a wonderful instrumentalist and singer who promises to have all kids and families singing and playing along.

  • Peter Hook & The Light Announce ‘Joy Division: A Celebration’ North America Tour

Peter Hook & The Light embark on a cross-continental journey that takes them across the United States and Canada in August and September 2022 for their biggest and most extensive trek to date, “Joy Division: A Celebration.” The North American tour launches August 11th in Toronto

Since announcing the tour last summer both Chicago shows at Metro are sold-out and joining as special guests will be El Ten Eleven in Chicago (both shows), Boston, Silver Springs, MD, Philadelphia, New York, San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

“So yeah, from that point of view, it’s actually nice to bring the two albums together [live]: you can see the contrast quite vividly when we play them. I do get some very almost teary moments. It has been quite interesting because Closer really does have a big effect on people, from an emotional point of view. Unknown Pleasures is very aggressive, it’s very punky, so live, it really rocks. Whereas Closer is almost the exact opposite: it’s very melancholic. It draws you in, and I must admit not only does it get a very emotional response from us while playing it, but you get an emotional response from the audience.”

    – Peter Hook, in an interview with Big Takeover

Around twenty-six dates overall, the tour takes place across five weeks. The band returns to some venues and debuts at others to perform Joy Division’s seminal two albums Unknown Pleasures and Closer in full.

Additionally, the tour will feature Joy Division rarities and an opening set of New Order material. The tour follows the debut UK dates for “Joy Division: A Celebration” which commemorates the 40th anniversary of Joy Division and Ian Curtis’ continuing influence.

“’Love Will Tear Us Apart’ is a masterpiece that has stood the test of decades, and is the perfect ending to a superb event…”

     – Yorkshire Post

Returning for his ninth tour of the States with Peter Hook & The Light, Hooky comments: “Definitely one of the highlights/lowlights of my profession is the travelling. It was amazing what a blessing it was not to have to do it over lockdown but amazing again how soon you missed seeing all these wonderful places the world has to offer. You lot in America are so lucky to have such a varied and wonderful country. I can’t wait to get back there, and my mouth is watering at the thought of going to my first ‘Coffee Shop’ breakfast. I am easily pleased.”

The Light Live At O2 Academy Brixton July 10, 2022 | Cr: Richard Gray

The first few dates were originally scheduled for May 2020, but due to the pandemic have only just taken place in the UK and across France to great reviews and reactions from fans and critics alike to The Light’s dedication to and passion for the catalogue across what is a near three-hour show.

About the reaction on returning to live concerts, Hooky added; “The gigs so far have all been wonderful and the fans and the band have been wonderful too! It does nothing for my imposter syndrome; I am very grateful that we have all risen back to this after what we have been through these past few years. Thank you all. We have a lot to be thankful for. Ian Curtis R.I.P.”

Because of the Ian Curtis death, Joy Division had to cancel their US Tour. Thus, also resulting in the death of Joy Division itself. But, later on as a new trio, create with Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook, and Stephen Morris played as New Order and stopped through New York in 1981.
