Caffe Lena will host the first annual Sing In The Streets music festival on May 22 to celebrate the venue’s 62 anniversary.
Music will take place at six sites in the historic downtown Saratoga Springs neighborhood, with each site having display photos and memorabilia associated with each decade of the venue’s operation.
Carolyn Shapiro, a Caffe Lena staff member and one of the performers for the afternoon, spoke in a statement about the festival. Shapiro also won an Eddie Award for Folk/Traditional Artist of the Year.
Sing in the Streets celebrates our venue’s history but it’s also a celebration of the community that helped our historic venue survive the turmoil of the last couple years. We’re encouraging people to visit every stage and get their Folk Passport stamped for a chance to win an Emcee Membership, which entitles you to two free shows a month for an entire year,

We have a lot to celebrate this year. We marked our 60th during the peak of the pandemic. Now it’s time to gather in person and enjoy music and survival. Caffe Lena has a long history, but its future is going to be even longer.
The festival features various musical styles, like pop, country, folk, bluegrass, and children’s music. The festival is free, but people can donate to support Caffe Lena’s community services, like free shows for kids, music in nursing homes and homeless shelters, free music lessons, and more.

The production features a Chamber ensemble of Orchestra members and Mexican mezzo-soprano Guadalupe Perazain a lively program of Baroque repertoire featuring the chaconne, a musical genre that began as bawdy 16th-century dances in Spanish culture. The chamber concert was initially scheduled for February 3, but was postponed due to the Omicron variant.
American Classical Orchestra was founded in 1984 as the Orchestra of the Old Fairfield Academy. Later on, renamed the American Classical Orchestra in 1999. After some time, Founder Thomas Crawford established its new and permanent home in New York City in 2005. Because they only preform music from the 17th, 18th, and 19th century, their mission is to present the music as the composers might have heard it in their time. By using certain instruments and techniques, the American Classical Orchestra is “supremely skilled musicians” (Theater Scene) have won critical praise for its recordings, educational programs, and concerts.
Thomas Crawford, is highly skilled in historically accurate performance styles in Baroque, Classical, and Early Romantic music. Throughout his life he has founded two Connecticut orchestras: the Fairfield Orchestra and the Orchestra of the Old Fairfield Academy. A passionate activist determined to bring the beauty of period music to a wider audience, Mr. Crawford’s educational activities with the Orchestra received a Learning in the Arts for Children and Youth award from the National Endowment for the Arts, recognizing the ACO’s dynamic music outreach to New York City schoolchildren. A Pennsylvania native, he holds degrees in organ performance and composition from the Eastman School of Music and Columbia University.

The show, Revisit:The Chaconne Project, was filmed at Harlem Parish. The use of harmonies create 10 vibrant examples of chaconne, a genre of music categorized by its repeating bass line. The director, Thomas Crawford, leads the audience through an aroma of musical instruments compromised through strings, voice and percussion. Revisit will showcase Guadalupe Peraza, who appeared as featured soloist with the New York Virtuoso Singers and at the majestic Teatro de la Ciudad Esperanza Iris in Mexico City.

Broome County‘s only professional symphony orchestra, The Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra has announced its 2022-2023 Concert Season which will run from September 2022 through May 2023. Under the direction of Maestro Daniel Hege, the season includes four Classical and four Pops concerts.
The Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra will kick off the 2022-2023 Season with “American Journey,” a concert exploring classical music of the Americas. he show will start on Saturday, September 24 at 7:30pm at the Broome County Forum Theatre. Additionally, the show will include Seven O’Clock Shout, a 2020 tribute to healthcare workers by contemporary composer Valerie Coleman, and more.
The symphony continues Saturday, October 22 at 7:30pm with the performance of “Walking Distance.” This unique performance features songs from beloved Binghamton-based Twilight Zone episode. Thus, the show will take place at the Helen Foley Theatre at Binghamton High School.
The next show “Green Places” takes place on Saturday, November 12 at 7:30pm at the Broome County Forum Theatre. This show features one of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s airy Novelettes, contemporary composer Gary Schocker’s lighthearted Green Places. Additionally, featuring flute soloist Karen Bogardus, and more.
The Philharmonic’s holiday concert, “Winter Wonderland,” will be held on Saturday, December 10 at 3pm at the Broome County Forum Theatre. This show includes music from holiday hits including The Polar Express, Home Alone, and The Nightmare Before Christmas. The program will also feature a visit from Santa, a holiday singalong, and the classic British animated film, The Snowman.
Lastly, the Philharmonic will conclude its 67th Season with “May the Fourth Be With You.” The show will take place on Thursday, May 4 at 7:30pm at the Anderson Center for the Performing Arts. This is an exciting program to celebrate the Star Wars saga with John Williams’ legendary symphonic music.

Opera Saratoga’s Artistic and General Director Lawrence Edelson has announced that he will step down from Opera Saratoga after the 2022 Summer Season. A member of the company since 2014, Edleson will be taking his talents to The University of Houston as Professor of Practice and Artistic Director of The Moores Opera Center.

The Moores Opera Center is considered one of the most prestigious programs for opera training in the country. The institution regularly brings home National Opera Association awards. Lawrence Edelson will also continue in his role as Artistic and General Director of American Lyric Theater in New York City. Here, he mentors emerging opera composers and oversees the development of new works.
As expected, Opera Saratoga is sad to see Edelson go. That being said, the company wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavors. Edelson’s final remarks are as follows:

The SPAC 2022 Summer performances and concerts have been announced, with a wide variety of artists and performances coming to the venue. For 50 years, SPAC has been the Summer home of New York City Ballet and The Philadelphia Orchestra, and has hosted thousands of concerts for the best-in-class artists across all genres.
Opera Saratoga was formed in 1962 to present opera in English and showcase young singers, and they are performing multiple dates with different performances. On May 26, they are performing “Stars of Tomorrow.” From June 2-3 they are performing Petite Messe Solennelle. On the 12 at 2 P.M. and 7 P.M. they are performing “A Hundred Years of Broadway – A Broadway Cabaret.” Finally, during the 29-30, they are performing Sweeney Todd – The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center is part of the largest performing arts complex in the world, and draws more people to chamber music than any other organization of its kind. They will be performing “Quintessential Quintets” on June 12 at 3 & 7 P.M. On the 19 at 3 & 7 P.M. they are performing “From the Harlem Renaissance to Today.” On July 10 at 3 & 7 P.M. they are performing “The Magic of Mixed Ensembles.” On August 14 at 3 & 7 P.M. they are performing “The Escher Quartet.”
The New York City Ballet will be coming to SPAC to do multiple dates with different varieties of shows. On July 12 at 7:30 P.M. they will be performing “NYCB On and Off Stage.” On the 13 and 16 at 7:30 P.M. they will be performing “20th Century Masters.” On the 15 at 7:30 P.M. and the 16 at 2 P.M. they will be performing “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

The Philadelphia Orchestra will be having its residency at SPAC from July 27-August 13, with a variety of performances including Yo-Yo Ma, The Princess Bride in Concert, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban™ in Concert and more.

For Post Malone’s first song, the dark stage was backlit by white spotlights, the singer on stage alone dressed head to toe in leather to perform “Cooped Up.” Partway through he was joined by Roddy Ricch, who featured on the remix of “Wow” in 2019. Post Malone would show up twice in sketches – first as the conscience/shoulder-angel of Chris Redd in showed up in the sketch “Intuition,” and later in the final sketch of the night “Baby Monitor” as a baby in a crib.

Grammy award winner and music Icon Barry Manilow has just announced a special six show arena tour, Manilow: Hits 2022. Manilow’s tour is taking place this August with special guest David Koz.
Having sold more than 85 million albums worldwide, Barry Manilow is one of the world’s all-time bestselling recording artists. Some of his hit recordings include “Could It Be Magic,” “Mandy,” “I Write the Songs,” “Can’t Smile Without You,” and “Copacabana.”
The show will be located at the UBS Arena at Belmont Park, a place located in Queens that was made for music and built for hockey. JazzFest White Plains has announced the artist line-up for the 2022 festival, to be held from September 14-18 in several locations including ArtsWestchester, Grace Episcopal Church and White Plains Public Library.
Headliners for the festival include the Joey Alexander Trio, the Buster Williams Quartet, Grace Kelly and Ragan Whiteside and Friends. These major acts will also be joined by Miki Hayama and Richie Goods, the Albert Rivera Quintet, the Carlos Jimenez Mambo Sextet, the G. Thomas Allen Quartet and more.
Grammy Award winning instrumentalists Joey Alexander and Buster Williams will command the stage with their refined and unique performances. Alexander has been praised as one of the most engaging pianist-composers of his time, while also being the youngest artist to ever be nominated in the Jazz Grammy category.
Williams, a legend in his own right, has played alongside other big names including Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock and Betty Carter. The “Something More” Quartet, composed of members Steve Wilson (saxophone), Lenny White (drums) and George Colligan (piano/keyboard), will support him.
Grace Kelly has accomplished many milestones in her career despite her young age. She has released more than 10 albums, sold out numerous shows and even appeared on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert as part of the house band.
As a community staple, JazzFest White Plains has brought entertainment and culture to Westchester for more than a decade. It was produced by ArtsWestchester in collaboration with the City of White Plains and the White Plains Business Improvement District.
