  • Hank-O-Rama Celebration in NYC May 13th

Hank Williams will be honored 69 years after his death with the 18th annual Hank-O-Rama celebration. This ‘honky tonk tradition’ takes place on May 13th at The Cutting Room in New York City.

Hank-O-Rama Celebration in NYC May 13th

The Hank-O is a symbolic rain date for the last show Hank would ever miss. Originally scheduled for its usual date in January, this year’s unique springtime Hank-O-Rama is a rain date itself because of his death on January 1st.

After the New Year’s show was postponed due to last winter’s omicron surge, the remembrance of Hank Williams goes on with the 18th annual Hank-O-Rama celebration. The show features dozens of Hank’s hits and rarities performed live by The Lonesome Prairie Dogs.

The group features Lenny Kaye (guitar) and host Alex Battles. In addition, featuring guest stars Tammy Faye Starlite, Cliff Westfall, Sean Kershaw, and others from the Brooklyn & NYC country music firmament. Songs including “Cold, Cold Heart,” “Hey, Good Lookin’,” “Your Cheatin’ Heart,” and many others will be played in Hank’s celebration.

During the spring of 1952, Williams flew to New York with steel guitarist Don Helms, where he made two appearances with other Grand Ole Opry members on The Kate Smith Show. He sang “Cold, Cold, Heart”, “Hey Good Lookin’”, “Glory Bound Train” and “I Saw the Light” with other cast members, and a duet, “I Can’t Help It (if I’m Still in Love with You)” with Anita Carter.

The singer made his early recordings for Sterling (based in New York) that produced the regionally popular song “Honky Tonkin.” Hank was only 29 when he was found dead in the back seat of his Cadillac on the morning of Jan. 1st, 1953, in WV. He was en route to a New Year’s Day gig in Canton, Ohio.

  • Lil Nas X To Perform Back-to-Back Nights At Radio City Music Hall

The 23-year-old rapper from Atlanta quickly rose to popularity in 2019, after the release and successful marketing campaign of his country-rap song “Old Town Road.” Critics were quick to judge the song, however, arguing that the song was not country enough to deserve its #16 spot on Billboards Hot Country Songs Chart, and it was quickly moved to the Hot Rap Songs Chart the following week. This controversy shot Lil Nas X to notoriety and the song eventually shot to number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

This quick fame would even land him a featured remix of the song with country-pop star Billy Ray Cyrus, which would become the longest-running #1 single in Billboard Hot 100 history after 19 weeks atop the chart.

  • Luke Combs To Visit MVP Arena During ‘Middle of Somewhere’ Fall Tour

The remarkable and country superstar, Luke Combs, is ready for his Middle of Somewhere tour, which will kick off in September and make a stop in Albany at MVP Arena.

    Middle Of Somewhere Tour

This upcoming tour is not the only thing in store for Combs this year. In fact, he will soon release his third studio album, Growin’ Up, while his latest song “Tomorrow Me,” recently dropped and has already received great recognition from Billboard. His top 5 single at country radio “Doin’ This,” along with 11 other songs will be featured on his long awaited album. Although, Combs has faced challenges throughout the process of this album, it is almost here.

I’ve been working on this album on and off for two and a half years now. It was sort of a crazy process through what COVID brought, and what that meant for our touring life last year. It made me have to put a pause on this album for a second, but I’m just really stoked that it’s finally coming out. Working with Chip Matthews and Jonathan Singleton as a producer has been really great and I think that the fans are going to love these songs. I’m just excited to get them out and see what they think.

    Luke Combs

Combs has been known to excel in the music industry, considering he went 3x Platinum with his second album What You See is What You Get and 4x Platinum with his debut, This One’s For You.

I know that the price of everything has been going up these last couple years and there’s nothing I can do about that, but the one thing I could do is set the price of my tickets. So, what I wanted to do was keep the ticket prices the same as they were before the pandemic. I really really hope you guys will come out and check us out. Can’t wait to see you on the road!

    Luke Combs

Special guests featured on the tour include Jordan Davis, Mitchell Tenpenny, Morgan Wade and Lainey Wilson. Tickets will be available for presale on May 4 at 4:00pm local time through Ticketmaster Verified Fan, while general tickets will be released on May 6 at 10:00am local time. • Bela Fleck “My Bluegrass Heart” Spring Tour Coming To New York this week

Fleck will stop in New York on April 6th at the State Theatre of Ithaca, April 8th in Albany at The Egg, April 10th at the Patchogue Theatre and April 13th at Tarrytown Music Hall.

After the sold-out shows at Carnegie Hall and the Ryman, Béla Fleck decided to extend his “My Bluegrass Heart” that will feature a variety of musicians.

Béla Fleck’s title for his album, My Bluegrass Heart was inspired from the classic “My Spanish Heart” from Tony and Chick Corea who he decided to dedicate the album too. Although this is his third run of the tour, Béla Fleck continues to keep the tradition of sharing music between generations.

“We’re reuniting the incredible first band—but with one change. Fiddler Stuart Duncan joins Sierra Hull, Justin Moses, Mark Schatz, Bryan Sutton and me. It’s time for the banjo player in the band to practice feverishly, because keeping up with this gang is no joke. It’s also one of the great joys!”

    -Béla Fleck

The core group of bluegrass musicians that play with Béla Fleck include New Grass Revivalist Sam Bush, fiddle player Stuart Duncan, bassist Mark Schatz and dobro player Jerry Douglas, alongside Chris Thile, Molly Tuttle, David Grisman, Brian Sutton, Edgar Meyer, Sierra Hull, Billy Strings, Tony Trischka, and fiddle avant-gardist Billy Contreras.

  • In Focus: Eastbound Jesus, Glass Pony, and Wreckloose Celebrate Guthrie Bell Productions

On Friday, March 24th, fans gathered at the Cohoes Music Hall to celebrate one of our all-time favorite promoters, Greg Bell from Guthrie Bell Productions with music from Eastbound Jesus, Glass Pony, and Wreckloose. Greg has been bringing live music to the lucky residents of the 518 for the past 30 years and counting. Friday night’s event was the first in a series of four shows put together to celebrate Greg’s legacy.

    Eastbound Jesus, Glass Pony, Wreckloose

Not one to break tradition, for Friday night’s show, we all got some extra-special treats thanks to Greg Bell including seeing one band that doesn’t really play together anymore. Wreckloose dusted off their equipment and it was impossible to tell they haven’t been playing together constantly over the years.

    High Energy & Hyped Up

Glass Pony and EastBound Jesus wrapped up the evening. Glass Pony is hands down one of the most energetic jam bands I have ever seen perform live. What an absolute blast. And I had heard about Eastbound Jesus for years before I finally got to see them on Friday night — it was well worth the wait. This inexhaustible band played for an impressive two hours.

More to Come from Guthrie Bell Productions

If you missed this incredible show, don’t despair — there are more to come. Guthrie Bell productions has shows scheduled for the next three weekends starting with The Sharks w/ Johnny Rabb & The Jailhouse Rockers on April 9th.
