River & Blues at The Battery

The Battery, formerly known as Battery Park, is a 25-acre (10 ha) public park bounded by Battery Place on the north, State Street on the east, New York Harbor to the south, and the Hudson River to the west. The park contains attractions such as an early 19th century fort named Castle Clinton; multiple monuments; and the SeaGlass Carousel.

    Nicole Atkins – July 7th at 6PM

    Nicole Atkins

    Elguri

    Cha Wa

The New Orleans based Mardi Gras Indian funk band Cha Wa had an infectious music and stage show when they were nominated by Grammy. The name Cha Wa is a slang phrase used by Mardi Gras Indian tribes, meaning “we’re comin’ for ya” or “here we come.” Cha Wa has been described as “funk with feathers” – a sound rooted in traditional New Orleans Mardi Gras Indian music mixed with funk and soul, a non-stop groove machine.

    Lady Wray

After years of honing her chops and making her name as a force-of nature vocalist, the Nashville-based singer/songwriter Maggie Rose has dreamed up her own unbridled collision of rock-and-roll, soul, folk, funk, and R&B.

    Cedric Burnside

Cedric Burnside, an American electric blues guitarist, drummer, singer and songwriter born into a prominent family of North Mississippi Hill Country legends. These sensibilities are reflected across his work and impeccably showcased on his 2022 GRAMMY™- winning release, I Be Trying. Burnside’s vocals, recorded in Willie Mitchell’s Royal Studios in Memphis, focus on romantic reverses and tenacious love with complete understanding.

  • The Brother Brothers To Play At Caffe Lena On July 28 In Advance Of New Album

The indie folk duo, The Brother Brothers, comprised of identical twins Adam and David Moss, will play on Thursday, July 28 at Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs. Meanwhile, their Cover to Cover album will be out on August 5 via Compass Records.

The Brother Brothers credit to Kaitlyn Raitz

On tour in support of Cover to Cover, the Brother Brothers’ third release on Compass Records is a requisite album of covers, featuring Sarah Jarosz and other notables and some eclectic cover choices. Among their eclectic picks: Tom T. Hall’s “That’s How I Got to Memphis,” Jackson Browne’s “These Days,” James Taylor’s “You Can Close Your Eyes,” Hoagy Carmichael’s “I Get Along Without You Very Well (Except Sometimes),” Robert Earl Keen’s “Feelin’ Good Again,” Richard Thompson’s “Waltzing’s for Dreamers,” Judee Sill’s “Rugged Road” and Tom Waits’ “Flowers Grave.” They also chose Harley Allen’s “High Sierra,” popularized by Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt on their Trio II album, and “If You Ain’t Got Love,” by Chas Justus of Lafayette, Louisiana dance band The Revelers.

Adam and David Moss are acclaimed for their vocal symmetry as the harmonies they create don’t get any closer. The twins, raised in Peoria, Illinois, started singing along to the artists their dad played for them at a toddler age. Inspired by such inward reflection of the roots of their inspiration during a time of great uncertainty and creative insecurity, they decided their songs for the third album “Cover to Cover”.

Each of their chose song has a story, a connection. “I Will” reminds them the lulled time with The Beatles’ White Album, “Feelin’ Good Again,” represent the latter of their years in Austin, Texas, during which they caught many REK shows when they weren’t performing (Adam in Green Mountain Grass and David in Blue Hit). Regarding “These Days,” on which they mesh crystalline harmonies and gorgeous guitar interludes, is their reason for doing a duo.

The thoughtful selections and filters from the brothers’ unique musical mix of folk, bluegrass, jazz and other idioms on Cover to Cover, this album undoubtedly will earn them more. They are also connecting with the songs. According to David, they only they just picked the ones that they enjoyed doing the most.

  • Marina Laurendi Releases Nostalgic New Single “Neighborhood Kids”

Buffalo-based indie singer-songwriter Marina Laurendi has released her second single “Neighborhood Kids” of her Stay Mine EP releasing this August.

    Neighborhood Kids – Mariana Laurendi

“Neighborhood Kids” is a sweet and summertime hometown ballad. It starts with simple acoustic guitar, piano and light synth until it culminates with the bluesy electric guitar solo ending. The folksy Americana vibe reminiscent of Brandi Carlile, melancholic indie pop evoking Lana Del Rey, and an edgier blues sound with notes of Gary Clark Jr. could be sensed from this song. The lyric video of “Neighborhood Kids” will be released on Monday, June 27th.

Marina Laurendi is a unique singer-songwriter who fuses elements of cinematic pop, alternative rock, and singer-songwriter lyricism. She was also a theatre performer and moved to NYC shortly after college to perform Off-Broadway and around the East Coast. However, as she returned to her hometown of Buffalo during the pandemic, she explored her roots with the “everything happens for a reason” attitude. Her music is heavily influenced by the pulse of the city along with the quiet nostalgia of her roots

I wrote “Neighborhood Kids” after coming back home after years of living away. Seeing and re-experiencing my hometown in the summertime as an adult hit me with a wave of nostalgia-driving down the neighborhood streets at sunset, reconnecting with people I hung out with in high school- all of it brought back this youthful sense of rebellion, curiosity, and a sense of suburban restlessness that summed up my entire youth pretty well.

    Marina Laurendi

She sums it up perfectly at the end of the song when she croons, “Bittersweet baby, I got nothing to chase it. The music’s been here but we don’t wanna face it. Nothing feels different when I’m hanging with the neighborhood kids.”

Marina will be performing this summer at Griffon Gastropub in Lewiston on July 9, and at Gallo Coal Fire Kitchin in Lewiston on August 7. For more info visit her webpage.

  • Stevexcooper Releases Imaginative New Single “Water Wings”

Brooklyn-based artist stevexcooper has just dropped his new single “Water Wings,” sharing open-hearted tales of human connection in all its glory, from romance, awkwardness, and uncertainty.

    stevexcooper by Pete Gibson

Recognized by Wonderland Magazine, stevexcooper has embossed within the music business for nearly 20 years. He earned credits in writing, recording and performing, as well as collaborated with Grammy nominees. He has also previously co-produced London’s ATO (MCMXCV) alongside platinum artist EDEN, which garnered on-air support from pop star Tom Grennan and multiple BBC Radio 1 DJs.

    stevexcooper

Influenced by the artists Aphex Twin and Squarepusher, stevexcooper expressed his fond of “capturing the sound of worlds breaking”. His works are also described as left-wing pop and rap, his music bends stereotypical genres, creating dynamic beats and a uniquely exclusive sound.

The recently unveiled “Water Wings” feat with Rothstein is off of the pair’s upcoming collaborative EP, What Are You Made Of?, which was written in Brooklyn over the course of a year and a half. The uptempo “Water Wings” demonstrates Rothstein’s polished pop songwriting over Cooper’s off-kilter anthems. Delicate chiming synths and syncopated beats provide the backdrop for Rothstein’s glossy vocals, as he sings “It’s contagious, the way that you’re so sure we’ll be alright.”

This is my first producer project release that’s about relationships. I’m excited about the prospect of not only switching genres with abandon, but also switching message and content. They’re pop tracks but without straight up pop sounds. The structures are familiar, but the guts of the place are new.

  • Brooklyn Instrumentalist Chris St. Hilaire Joins The Black Keys Touring Band This Summer

This summer, Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalist Chris St. Hilaire will join the Black Keys Touring Band as part of their ‘Dropout Boogie’ tour. The tour will kick off in Las Vegas on July 9th and wrap up in Dallas on Oct. 18, arriving in New York State at SPAC on July 20th and Jones Beach on July 22th.

    Chris St. Hilaire
    The Black Keys Dropout Boogie

Born in Huntington to Trinidadian parents, music was a rich part of Chris St. Hilaire’s foundation and cultural upbringing. His father is also a toured guitarist and influenced his playing and songwriting. St. Hilaire started playing drums at thirteen and was influenced by Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Led Zeppelin, Stevie Wonder, and Michael Jackson. His vocal, harmony structure, and songwriting style was mostly shaped by The Beatles.

    Chris St. Hilaire
    Chris St. Hilaire

Besides the tour, Chris St. Hilaire will also complement the release of the band’s 11th studio album Dropout Boogie. This particular arrangement will give St. Hilaire an opportunity to offer his multi-instrumental capabilities onstage, and represents a unique inflection point in his career.

I think my instincts are going to be pretty compatible with everything that they are doing. The melodies are really strong, which is always fun, and their music is rooted in rhythmic music, so percussion-wise I’ll have a lot of room to play with space and work to keep the rhythm driving. I think this will be a really cool opportunity to tour in a highly efficient and dignified way.
