  • There’s No Laundry at Albany’s Newest Laundromat

Albany’s DIY music scene has been thriving in the wake of 2020’s lockdowns. Basement and house venues are popping up left and right, and bands have been eager to get back on stage and perform in front of live audiences. The Laundromat is one of the newest underground music venues in Albany and it just wrapped up a busy spring semester. The hidden basement spent the last five months promoting pop-up shows at Pauly’s Hotel, hosting their own basement shows, and contributing to Albany’s flourishing music and arts community.

The venue started back in September of 2021 and is run by two U Albany students Ari Spielman and Samantha Mehrkens. The duo runs their venue on Instagram (@the.laun.dro.mat) and have grown their page beyond 1,500 followers in the past few months and have put on over a dozen shows. Ari and Samantha have built, from the ground up, a popular space for musicians, painters, photographers, and artists of all kinds to work and enjoy each other’s art. The two can always be spotted up front at their shows, enjoying the music, addressing technical difficulties, and even keeping their fans cool and comfortable.

The Laundromat was recently one of a handful of DIY venues in the Albany area that was part of Byrdhouse Records‘ Phoenix Fest. The week-long festival consisted of six consecutive shows all over Albany, Troy, and New Paltz. The Laundromat’s show took place on 4/20 and featured five local acts: Floral Arrangements, Ricky Bandana, Prom Sex, Rhakimali, and The E-Block. The packed lineup, along with the holiday festivities, brought out a big crowd for the Wednesday night show that ran late into the early hours of the morning.

The surprise highlight of the night was the third act of the night: Prom Sex. The newly formed band played their first show ever at The Laundromat and they received a warm welcome from Albany’s DIY community. The band played their own version of musical chairs, or rather musical instruments, as everyone rotated from guitar to bass to drums. The young band played on for a full 45-minute set with a crowd-demanded encore.

The Laundromat also features local bands time and time again, like Ladybyrd. The WCDB Rising Artist of the Year is a regular at The Laundromat, and performed at the last show of the semester on May 6. Ladybyrd had also performed at The Laundromat as recently as April 8th, along with Chaz Kiss, and Sam Legenbauer. This April 8th show was promoted as the Femme Fatale Feature Friday, as it featured acts fronted by women. The Laundromat doesn’t always host shows with an overarching theme, but when they do, they always tend to draw out their biggest and most energetic crowds.

    The Laundromat
    Ladybyrd @ The Laundromat – 5.6.22

The Laundromat has often featured a broad range of music on any given night, one could hear everything from hip-hop to punk or shoegaze to funk. One of these genre bending shows was on February 18th, featured acts included: Free Spiritu, Cloud 18, Dork!, and Alliteration. Alliteration closed out the show and have been seen all over the 518 in the past few months. It feels like the Poughkeepsie-based punk band brings their unique sound to the area every other weekend and they have fans traveling regularly from as far as Long Island to catch every single one of their shows.

Alliteration’s success is well deserved and has been a direct result of the band’s collective work ethic, attitude, and fun music. Xayvier, Ryan, and Mike are loved throughout the music community and can be found in the crowd or the merch table at every show they play. They arrive early, enjoy the sets of other acts, and are eager to mingle with fans. It’s this type of approachability and friendliness from the band members though that has helped make them a true crowd favorite in New York’s DIY music scene. Basement show-goers may even find themselves challenged to a game of Super Smash by Xayvier for the chance to win a t-shirt discount. Good luck beating him though.

Alliteration’s Next show will be at The Bundy Museum on May 28th, for the Bing X Punk Festival . The day’s music starts at 3pm and is slated to run until 9:30. The show will feature three other bands who have been seen in the Albany area as of late: Stay Off The Fence , Senior Living, and DiRTYBANDAiD. All of these bands rock, hard, and will be accompanied by a number of other acts who won’t disappoint: The Droogz, Pons, The War Lovers, Pleasure Dome, and Tom Jolu.

Like the Bing X Punk Festival shows, Albany’s DIY scene is not an island. It is, instead, a part of a much larger community of music lovers all around the state. There are vibrant underground scenes in cities like Oneonta, Binghamton, and Troy and bands are constantly playing together and traveling from city to city as often as they can. The Laundromat’s final show of the semester on May 6, 2022 featured Crash Test Auto from Oneonta. The upbeat rock band put the community’s connectedness on display by featuring Adam Henkel on bass. Adam is a SUNY Oneonta student who currently runs the 607 Music Scene Instagram page.

Adam has found himself playing for a number of bands and is now focused on building his Instagram following through 607 in order to aggregate event and artist news from around New York’s DIY music scene beyond. Adam’s efforts are all in the name of his love for music and for the members of the underground community. 607 Music Scene is the go-to page to follow if you are interested in keep up-to-date with upcoming shows, photography galleries from past shows, and new music from local acts.

    The Laundromat
Crash Test Auto @ The Laundromat 5.6.22

In addition to hosting shows in their basement, The Laundromat has also promoted a number of shows at Pauly’s Hotel in Albany. The Laundromat kicked off the 2022 spring semester with their Wild N’ Out rap show on February 5. The show featured nine of Albany’s up and coming rappers to allow the crowd to decide who their favorite rapper of the night was. The show’s winner and runner-up were awarded to Lil Baby Suplex, and Rhakimali. The grand prize was awarded to Suplex and earned him free studio time in New York City.

The Laundromat’s Pauly’s Hotel shows have also included lineups with some local regulars like Treasure Cove, The E-Block, and Safety Meeting. Those who frequent DIY shows in the area are more than likely quite familiar with all three of these acts, as they have all been regularly performing around the area and at other Laundromat shows. Safety Meeting also played shows at The Byrdhouse and WCDB this semester. In April they performed at WCDB Fest and were nominated for Best Alt Rock/Indie Artist for their fun style of rock that incorporates sounds from different genres spanning from punk to country. Safety Meeting has a show coming up on May 28 at Blueberry Field in New Paltz.

    The Laundromat
    Safety Meeting @ Pauly’s Hotel – 2.17.22

As you can see, The Laundromat plays their own important role in a much larger community. Samantha and Ari have grown their own musical node in the network in a very short amount of time. The space they have created creates opportunities for so many artists to put their work on display. The nature of the community inspires crowd members, promotes new acts and venues alike, and makes the whole of New York’s DIY scene stronger.

So whether you are young or old, love hip-hop or punk, or just have $5 in your pocket, then you should consider following The Laundromat on Instagram and keeping your eyes out for the next show they have. It could be this summer, or it could be next summer, but either way you ought to be ready to send them a DM and get the address to what will likely be one of the best shows in Albany happening that night. Albany’s basements are dark and dirty, but the artists and fans are kind and welcoming to all. There is no doubt that a night spent at The Laundromat will be one filled with good music and good vibes.

  • In Focus: Another Michael, Homecoming at No Fun!

Another Michael returned to the Capital District for the first time in a long time to perform live with Bread Boy at No Fun! in Troy. The now Philly-based indie rock band was formed in Albany by lead singer and guitarist Michael Doherty, guitarist and vocalist Alenni Davis, and bassist Nick Sebastiano.

Another Michael has also featured Noah Dardaris on drums for close to two years. The group has also worked with Jacob Crofoot and Red Cumpston of Bread Boy. This connection and shared influences were evident on Monday night when the two bands took the stage. Bread Boy started the show with a 45 minute set that was well received by the No Fun! crowd, and which for many, was their introduction to Jacob’s music.

The band took the stage and started their set with a brand new single titled ‘Water Pressure‘ that was officially released just a few hours before the start of the show at No Fun! Another Michael performed another new song later in the night, ‘Seafood,’ and both new songs fit well into the group’s discography. As of late, and the band seems to have found a real groove in their songwriting, and are making consistently fun and upbeat indie rock tracks. For those unfamiliar, Another Michael’s music has a sound that is truly their own, and is best experienced by listening.

In the clip below, from Run For Cover Records YouTube Channel, you can watch and listen to Another Michael perform a number of songs from New Music and Big Pop which were played on Monday night.

Another Michael played a number of tracks from their first full-length album, which you can stream and purchase on Another Michael’s Bandcamp. Their set included ‘Row,’ ‘New Music,’ ‘I Know You’re Wrong,’ ‘What The Hell is Going On?’ and ‘Big Pop.’ These tracks all build upon Michael Doherty’s melodic and friendly falsetto at their core. Seemingly every Another Michael song has a fun and optimistic sound that fans gravitate toward. The full band behind Michael only added to these qualities, and the group bounced around and shared their enjoyment of the music with the Troy crowd.

Monday’s No Fun! show built up to a reunion on stage when Another Michael brought Jacob and Red of Bread Boy back on stage to play guitar. Both musicians have spent time playing with Another Michael in the past, and the Bread Boy duo looked right at home on stage with them. The energy from the packed stage spread throughout the room, and fans began to move around as the band rocked their way into the final songs. The night eventually came to an end with Another Michael playing two of their biggest crowd favorites: ‘Big Pop’ and ‘About.’

Another Michael have been writing new music lately, to keep up to date with their latest releases and to help support the band, visit their Bandcamp page. Another Michael’s music is also available to stream wherever you listen to music, and you can listen now on their Spotify artist page. You can also listen to and support Bread Boy on Bandcamp and Spotify. No Fun! has shows almost every night, every week, and admission is free for many of them. • WCDB Fest 2022: A Celebration of Albany’s DIY Music Scene

Saturday April 9th, the University at Albany’s student run radio station, WCDB 90.9FM, hosted their 2022 WCDB Fest at the Albany Barn. The day’s events featured local artists, businesses and bands, while celebrating the efforts and accomplishments of all those involved. The student organized event lasted late into the night and included an art fair, eight live performances and an award show.

    WCDB Fest 2022

Throughout the night, bands rotated on the stage, each playing 15-minute sets. The music for the evening kicked off with WCDB’s own DJ Riddick who played an electronic set before Jack Lynch took the stage for his own solo performance. The bassist played a seven string bass and had an arc of pedalboards and electronics before him while he looped some out of this world sounds.

The first band to take the stage was Grampfather. The Kingston based eclectic rock band’s album Gramppappies was nominated for WCDB Fest’s Best Album of the Year. Their set included ‘Poppies’ from the new album, which recently broke through 1,000 streams on Spotify. Canella followed Grampfather and were nominated for Rising Artist of the Year, as well Song of the Year with ‘Quiet Love.’ You can watch the music video for the single on Canella’s YouTube channel.

    Canella

Canella were followed by Safety Meeting, who were nominated for Best Alt Rock/Indie Artist. The Saratoga band often play around Albany, and have an EP available to stream on Spotify. Following Safety Meeting, Mr. Every Day kicked off the first of two hip-hop performances. He opened his set with a passionate speech about his life, his family, and what music means to him. The intimate moment was followed by a high energy performance, priming the audience for a performance by Laveda.

The young shoe gaze band took the stage and immediately took control of the room. Their music had a beautiful blend of ethereal melodies over driving back beats, orchestrateed by familiar faces; Joe Taurone and Dan Carr of Canella. It was his second appearance on the night as he swapped between drums and bass (Dan would also appear on stage a third time, playing drums with Stella and the Reptilians). Laveda’s catalogue on Spotify includes a 6 track EP from their 2020 session with Audiotree. After Laveda, WCDB Fest’s Best Hip-Hop Artist, Scrambled performed a unique set. The Boston-based rapper began rhyming a-cappella while walking throughout the Albany Barn, projecting her voice throughout the room without any help from a microphone.

    Ladybyrd

The evening ended on a high, with Stella and the Reptilians taking the stage right after taking home the Best Artist of the Year award. Everyone in the Barn was up on their feet for the final songs of the night, as bands and students alike were jumping and shouting along in celebration of not just Stella and the Reptilians, but in celebration of the WCDB community as a whole.

    Stella and the Reptilians

Everyone present found themselves in the embrace of a tight-knit community of music lovers. WCDB Fest would not have been possible without the dedicated students who run the station, the musicians who are constantly creating and performing and the fans who create the demand for such an ecosystem to exist. Albany’s underground music scene is something to behold, and those who find themselves in a dirty, dusty basement will be glad they did. Every weekend you can catch a show whose music, energy, and excitement challenge those found at any mainstream venue in Albany. And with entry usually costing around $5, what’s the downside of checking out a basement show?

    Rachel Freeman WCDB / Byrdhouse

If you are a music lover in Albany, or anywhere else for that matter, be sure to follow WCDB, the featured bands, and the music venues that are helping make Albany’s underground music scene flourish. You can find shows every weekend around the Capital District at The Byrdhouse, The Laundromat, Makeout Reef, Troy Speakeasy, Caesar’s Palace, and likely many more in the semesters and years to come. • In Focus: Leif Vollebekk and La Force, Live at Levon Helm Studios

Levon Helm Studios was sold out on Saturday, April 4th, for a visit from some of Montreal’s finest: Leif Vollebekk, with opener La Force. The show also featured appearances from Cindy Cashdollar and Patrick Watson. This dynamic cast of musicians put on a special show for the Woodstock crowd that lasted late into the night. The crowd was excited for the show and were entertained throughout, and for a number of first timers at the barn, they learned how alive music can feel in the barn.

    Cindy Cashdollar on lap steel

La Force consisted of Ariel Engle performing solo on Saturday night. Her set was a perfect way to open the show; the crowd was captivated by the ethereal combination of Ariel’s voice and guitar, and from the first measure she took full control of their attention. La Force created a unique atmosphere, the room was filled with a calmness that was balanced by a fragile tension in her voice. The hauntingly beautiful combination of Ariel’s voice and guitar can be heard in her live version of ‘Can’t Take’ in the clip below.

After La Force, Leif Vollebekk took the stage and from the start he was one thing: connected. Leif was connected to his music, through his body, to his instruments, and to the sounds he and his band make. During each song of his set Leif would visibly lose himself to the feeling of his music. When playing guitar on his feet, Leif would never stay in one place. He would flow to and from the microphone as he needed, bouncing in and out of different sections of the songs. Even when seated at the piano, Leif would rock back and fourth: leaning, twisting, and bending, all to play the notes exactly as he feels.

This connection to his music is no more apparent than during ‘Hot Tears.’ Close fans of Leif knew the moment this song was coming on Saturday night, as he laid his guitar down on the floor, with the headstock pointing away as he sat down at the keys. This was to leave the guitar in a convenient place for the moment in the song when he picked it up and to solo, calling and responding to himself on the keyboard. In the clip below, you can fast forward to minute 10:33 to watch Leif perform ‘Hot Tears’ for KCRW. Just after minute 14:30 is when Leif picks up his guitar and puts on a clinic in playing with feel.

Leif’s set was dynamic throughout, and his energy level flowed up and down with each song. The set’s energy trended upward as the night went on though, and the build up took off as the band rocked Levon Helm Studios with ‘Blood Brother.’ The regular set was closed out at its peak with ‘Transatlantic Flight,’ another song off Leif’s latest album: New Ways. The energy of this song would be matched only with the final song of the encore, when every musician in the building took the stage for a cover of Prince’s ‘Purple Rain.’ This proved to be a truly special ending to another incredible show in Woodstock.

Leif Vollebekk will be wrapping his American tour in Pennsylvania, New York, and Massachusetts before heading to Europe. See all of Leif’s upcoming tour dates on his website. To catch any future announcements, be sure to follow him on Instagram @leifvollebekk. Stay up-to-date with La Force by visiting laforceband.com and following Ariel on Instagram @laforceband. • In Focus: M. Ward Live at Levon Helm Studios

    M. Ward graced Levon Helm Studios with his presence this past Sunday, March 27. The singer-songwriter, and fans alike, waited two years for this Woodstock show, and the wait only made the night more special. For folks who have seen a show at Levon Helm Studios, you know just how incredible the venue’s acoustics are, and M. Ward played the barn’s walls like they were instruments. He opened the show and silenced the crowd without speaking a word.

    M Ward

Ward began with ‘Duet For Guitars #3.’ This started the night off perfectly by showcasing some of Ward’s most intricately dynamic guitar playing. His pinch harmonics resonated beautifully throughout the studio, and his individual style of strumming filled the room with chords that sounded too full to have been made by a single guitar. The crowd erupted after the song ended and they had their first glimpse into what was in store for them.

Ward then rolled into one of his most popular songs with ‘Chinese Translation,’ which allowed his voice to take center stage and play with Levon Helm Studios’ walls. You can take a listen to M. Ward’s 2011 performance of the song that he did for Kink FM in the video below. This clip is a great representation of just how smooth Ward is, both in his guitar playing and in his singing. At times during the show on Sunday, Ward would step away from his mic entirely and allowed his voice to carry itself throughout Levon Helm Studios. There are few venues, if any, that can compare to the sonic experience in this setting with a musician as skilled as M. Ward.

    M. Ward played his first of two covers for the night with his rendition of Buddy Holly’s ‘Rave On.’ He slowed things down in the best way possible, and truly made the song his own, almost unrecognizable from the original. Ward’s second cover was one that caused an interesting response from the crowd. The lyrics to Daniel Johnston’s ‘Story of an Artist’ come off as humorous to some when sung in such a new tone. The song was featured on his 1983 album Hi How Are You, and its lyrics explore Johnston’s lack of support and belief in his art from his family. It is truly a sad, sad song, but what brought out the laughter seemed to be the juxtaposition of Ward captivating the crowd with his musical abilities while singing lyrics about a family telling their son that the world will never like his songs. The two observations clash, but the effect is powerful as the laughing fans soon saw and felt the seriousness of Ward’s voice.

    M Ward

The show’s pace picked up for the final few songs as Bat Fangs came out to accompany Ward. The group rocked the barn after an intimate set of songs, and left the Woodstock crowd on cheering on their feet for a few minutes. The crowd cheered until Ward and Betsy of Bat Fangs returned to the stage, and started the encore like the show began, with a song off Ward’s 2003 album Transfiguration of Vincent: ‘Helicopter.’ The duo would go on to end the night by fielding crowd suggestions, and settled on ‘Poison Cup,’ which managed to bring one fan to tears even.

    M Ward

    M. Ward just finished up the last of his American tour dates until June, and will be flying across the pond to play three weeks of shows in Europe. When Ward returns to the U.S. he will be playing four shows in Texas before heading back overseas to tour the UK. If you have travel plans, be sure to check out M. Ward’s website. For future shows at Levon Helm Studios, check out their events page.

Setlist (partial): Duet For Guitars #3, Chinese Translation, Fuel for Fire, Rave On (Buddy Holly), Vincent O’Brien, Here Comes the Sun Again, Story of an Artist (Daniel Johnston), Never Had Nobody Like You, To Go Home

  • In Focus: Railroad Earth Makes a Stop at The Egg

Railroad Earth’s 2022 tour just made a stop in Albany this past Friday, March 18. This was the their first show at The Egg since 2019, and the Capital District crowd showed just how much they missed Railroad Earth the last two years. The folk-centric jam band put on a dynamic show filled with rowdy choruses, dueling solos, and an atmosphere that felt almost like a celebration. The Egg audience was on its feet from the start of the show as folks were in great spirits. When Railroad Earth took the stage, everyone was immediately put in the mood to dance and move around out of their seats.

Among the high energy peaks, the show was also filled with spacious moments that bordered on serene. Fans enjoyed these calm moments by slowing down with the band as they got lost in the music, creating an ambience that allowed the colorful light show to shine. Fans could breath while appreciating the full experience being created before them, before being pulled right back to their feet to continue dancing along to the very next song. And so the show flowed along like this for an hour and a half, with everyone in The Egg seeming to have been transported somewhere far away from Albany.

Railroad Earth have been working in the studio as well, and recently released a brand new single titled “Come and Go Moon.” Back in January, they released another single titled “Runnin’ Wild,” which was their first newly recorded track since “It’s So Good” was released back in 2019. Two new songs in 2022… One could wonder if there may be a new album on the horizon for Railroad Earth. All we can d is wait and see though, so sense speculating. In the meantime, you should listen to what Railroad Earth has been up to in the YouTube video for their new single below.

If you missed your chance to see Railroad Earth at The Egg, then be sure to check out the bands upcoming tour dates as they travel down the east coast through the end of March. After a few weeks off, the band will be hopping all over the country throughout the summer. To see all of Railroad Earth’s upcoming tour dates, visit railroad.earth/tour.

  • In Focus: Lawrence Hotel TV 2 Tour Rolls Through Albany

Two years ago, in March of 2020, bands were cancelling shows and tours left and right. Such was the case for Lawrence’s Hotel TV Tour, but the band has picked up right where they left off in 2022 with the Hotel TV Tour 2. Lawrence just stopped in Albany to perform at Empire Live, and the brother-sister-led soul group put on a show that was as advertised. The set was full of positive energy, funk, soul, and the crowd loved every minute of it. Lawrence opened the show on a high note, playing ‘Casualty’ and ‘It’s Not All About You,’ two songs off their 2021 album Hotel TV.

    lawrence hotel TV

Fans of the show may recognize Clyde’s Arrested Development shirt in the photo above. This is one of many TV related shirts that he’ll be wearing as a nod to the tour’s theme: Hotel TV. Lawrence’s set had references throughout the night as they covered some classic theme songs from shows and movies like Hey Arnold!, The Office, and The Little Orphan Annie. Grace likened the idea of hotel TV to being a home away from home, which for kids raised in the 90’s and beyond this is often the case. And so for a chunk of the set, Lawrence bounced between nostalgic covers and originals, including ‘Probably Up,’ ‘The Heartburn Song,’ and ‘Jet Lag.’

    lawrence hotel TV

After hitting the Cha Cha Slide, Lawrence moved into another string of originals including: ‘Shot,’ ‘More,’ and ‘Freckles.’ ‘Freckles’ is a standout song from the band’s newest album, and is a perfect representation of Lawrence’s music. The band’s music features lyrics with optimistic spins on relatable topics layered over upbeat, groovy tracks that are a joy to perform and witness live. After ‘Freckles’, Lawerence stayed loose with another cover, their funky version of Sean Paul’s ‘Get Busy.’

After ‘Get Busy,’ Lawrence slowed things down with their ballad: ‘The Weather.’ The crowd got what would be a timely, quiet moment, before an upbeat end to the night. Lawrence ended the show on a particularly high note with a string of hits including: ‘Make A Move,’ ‘Do You Wanna Do Nothing with Me?,’ and ‘Don’t Lose Sight.’ The crowd loved the set Lawrence crafted and they jumped, screamed, and sang at the tops of their lungs all night long. The crowd eventually waited for and welcomed an encore that featured ‘It’s Gonna Be Me’ and then faded out with Gracie singing ‘Tomorrow’ from Annie.

Lawrence are wrapping up the east coast leg of their Hotel TV 2 Tour in Pennsylvania. After two shows at the end of March, the band will be making their way through the midwest and the south. You can view all of their upcoming tour dates and purchase tickets on their website. In the meantime, be sure to follow and subscribe to Lawrence on Instagram, YouTube and Spotify. • In Focus: Tinsley Ellis Album Release Show at Caffe Lena

Tinsley Ellis is on tour across America following his latest album release, Devil May Care, and he made a stop in Saratoga Springs on February 19th to play at Caffe Lena. The Atlanta-born front man released his first album, Cool on it, in 1986 and has been consistently putting out music ever since. Tinsley’s hard earned experience was evident from the moment he took the stage; with no words spoken, he jumped right into his upbeat blues with songs including: ‘One Less Reason,’ and ‘To the Devil for a Dime.’

These opening songs set the tone for whole show. Tinsley impressed the crowd with his powerful vocals and even stronger guitar solos. For some, their instruments are an extension of their bodies, and this was certainly the case for Mr. Ellis. Tinsley’s road worn guitars showed their use, and he showed Caffe Lena just how well he can use them. His pedal board was minimal, and this left the control over Tinsley’s tone entirely in his own hands. After just these two songs, it was clear what the Saratoga crowd was in for a masterclass in blues guitar.

Tinsley came out hot and stayed hot, counting off song after song with no pauses in between. He continued on with tracks from his 1994 album Storm Warning, including: ‘A Quitter Never Wins’ and ‘The Next Miss Wrong.’ Eventually, Tinsley would let the room simmer as he pulled up a stool, and grabbed his resonator to play some slide guitar for the Saratoga crowd. In the image above, you can see the reflection cast on the ceiling by the beautiful silver top of his guitar. Tinsley covered songs by both Muddy Waters, and Willie Dixon before playing one solo tune.

When the band returned to the stage, the room’s energy shot back up during Tinsley’s high tempo track, ’28 Days,’ off the new album. Fans cheered along, and one fan in particular, with his cane raised high, shouted “YEAH TINS,” just as he had done all throughout the night. • In Focus: Plush Debut New Album at Empire Live

This past Friday, February 11, Plush headlined their first show in the Northeast for a sold out Empire Live crowd. The band, led by Capital District native, Moriah Formica, were marking the release of their debut self-titled album. Plush’s lineup also includes Brooke Colucci on drums, Bella Perron on guitar, and Ashley Suppa on bass. The young rock band’s set included 12/13 songs from the album and a fantastic cover of Heart’s Barracuda.

Empire Live’s Underground space was packed from wall to wall, and there were fans of every generation present, from old metal heads all the way down to kids who could have been at their very first shows. Plush’s songs resonate with all types of listeners; their lyrics often touch on the struggles of heartbreak while being driven by heavy instrumentals and powerful harmonies. For their entire set, Plush was cheered on by a high energy crowd that recognized the talent they were witnessing. This talent included a a solo drum intro by Brooke that you can see below.

Plush released their first single ‘Hate’ back in February of 2021, and the song went on to reach as high as number 24 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Chart. You can listen and watch the music video on YouTube. Since releasing ‘Hate,’ Plush has been on the road opening for acts like Evanescence, Halestorm, and SevenDust. For this show though, the band had Vendetta Rose and Alborn opening in front of Moriah’s hometown crowd.

In the coming weeks, Plush will be hitting the road with rock and guitar legend Slash. Their tour currently has Northeastern stops set for New York, Massachusetts, and New Jersey. You can find Plush’s upcoming tour dates on their website.
