  • Proctors Collaborative Announces Capital Repertory Theatre’s 2022-2023 Season 

    Proctors Collaborative has announced the next shows coming to Capital Repertory Theatre in Albany. The annual Proctors Collaborative announcement was recently held on the the Capital Repertory Theatre Facebook page.

    Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors

    The 2022-2023 season at theREP starts with Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors, co-written by Gordon Greenberg, scheduled for late September and running until October of 2022. Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors is a lightning fast, laugh-out-loud 90-minute magical romp. Famed female vampire hunter Jean Van Helsing and her motley company chase Count Dracula from the English Countryside to Transylvania.

    Hairspray

    Each subscription to theREP includes a crossover show at Proctors in Schenectady. This year,
    that show is a Broadway classic, Hairspray. The Tony Award-winning musical comedy
    phenomenon is back on tour! Join Tracy Turnblad in 1960s Baltimore as she sets out
    to dance her way onto TV’s most popular show.

    New Season

    “With the announcement of our 22-23 season, I feel like we are really back, with a selection of plays and musicals that span 500 years of great theatre! It’s exhilarating to be able to give our audiences a full season with depth and variety,” says Maggie Mancinelli-Cahill, theREP’s Producing Artistic Director. 

    “Our audiences are back too, loving our new theatre, where every seat is great and you really feel like you’re part of the story on stage.” 

    The new season will include shows such as Secret Hour, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Honky Tonk Angels.

    Subscriptions for the 2022–2023 Capital Repertory Theatre season go on sale Wednesday, April 13 and are available through the Box Office at Proctors, in person or online at proctors.org

  • FreshGrass | North Adams Announces Initial Lineup for September Bluegrass Festival

    FreshGrass | North Adams, MASS MoCA’s three day festival of bluegrass and progressive roots music, announces the initial 2022 lineup.

    The lineup features Gary Clark Jr., Old Crow Medicine Show, Trampled by Turtles, Yola, and The Jerry Douglas Band. Artists such as Aoife O’Donovan, Sierra Ferrell, Alison Brown, The Lil Smokies, Sierra Hull, Willie Watson, Luca Ciarla, are also included. Also perfoming will be, Never Come Down, Misty Blues, California Bluegrass Reunion featuring Darol Anger, John Reischman, Bill Evans, Jim Nunally, Sharon Gilchrist & Chad Manning. More artists are being announced in the upcoming weeks.

    The FreshGrass festival features bluegrass innovators on four stages and platforms throughout the 16-acre campus. Festival programming also includes FreshScores, a silent film with original live music; FreshGrass commissions and world premieres. There will also be workshops led by bluegrass veterans on the subjects of songwriting, producing, and music marketing.

    FreshGrass is a beloved tradition at MASS MoCA, with more than a decade of music and memories.

    FreshGrass festival also holds a contest for emerging artists. The grand prize is a grant up to $20,000 in cash prizes and recording time at Compass Records studio in Nashville to unsigned talent. The annual award categories include band, banjo, guitar, and fiddle. Twelve finalists—three in each category—travel to the festival to perform for a panel of No Depression editors and artists. For this year’s festival, finalists will perform throughout the weekend on pop-up stages. The award winners in each of the four categories will earn a main stage slot at the 2023 FreshGrass Festival.

    3-Day tickets are now on sale for adults ($129), students ($99), and children 7-16 ($49). Admission is free for children 6 and under. All festival tickets include admission to MASS MoCA’s galleries. MASS MoCA members receive a 10% discount on ticket prices, excluding VIP FreshPass tickets. 

    Camping Information

    As FreshGround is a camping field, they will be offering camping services. The camping ground is about a 12 minute walking distance from the festival, along with downtown merchants, bars, and restaurants. A shuttle bus runs continuously to the festival from the campsite.   • Boyz II Men Announce Tour Stop at Proctors in Schenectady 

    The award winning R&B Group Boyz II Men will be coming to Proctors in Schenectady at 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 27. Michael McCary, Nathan Morris, Wayna Morris and Shawn Stockman found fame during the 1990s with Motown Records. The group is currently the best-selling R&B group of all time, selling over 64 million albums.

    Boyz II Men dropped their debut album in 1991 called Cooleyhighharmony. The album sold over nine million copies and won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. The album included hits such as “Motownphilly” and “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday.” 

    Since then, the 4-time grammy award winning R&B group went on to release mega-hits like “I’ll Make Love to You,” “End of the Road,” “One Sweet Day,” and many more. In 2011, Boyz II Men celebrated their 20th anniversary by releasing an album fittingly named Twenty. This album was the group’s first in nearly ten years.

    On top of their Grammy awards, they’ve also won nine American Music Awards, nine Soul
    Train Awards, three Billboard Awards, and a 2011 MOBO Award for Outstanding Contribution
    to Music, and many more iconic achievements.

    Outside of their musical achievements, the group also started their own charity called Boyz II Men House. The charity was established to support individuals and organizations that focus on improving quality of life while contributing to those who are less fortunate.

    Pre-sales for the August 27th show will begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 15 with the official on-sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 18. Tickets are available through the Box Office at Proctors, in person or online at proctors.org

  • Ontario based Punk Rock band Sumo Cyco announce North American “Initiation” tour

    Sumo Cyco, a Punk Rock band out of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada have announce their Initiation tour starting on May 19th. After fans loved their album Initiation, they begged for Sumo Cyco to go on tour. So in response, Sumo Cyco did. Prior to the Initiation tour, the band will be joining rock icons Buckcherry and special guests Blacktop Mojo on their respective tour.

    The band consists of teen pop-superstar Skye “Sever” Sweetnam as well as producer/guitarist Matt “MD13” Drake and bassist Oscar Anesetti.  Sumo Cyco have an undeniable following of fans with their impressive mixture of metal, pop and everything in between. Prior to signing with Napalm Records, Sumo Cyco  won awards such as “Best Female-Fronted” band at the Toronto Independent Music Awards. They also became top finalist in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition. The band has also shared stages with The Offspring, Coal Chamber, Our Lady Peace, and many more. Sumo Cyco’s rise to stardom was tremendous. The group garnered hundreds of thousands of cross-platform streams instantaneously.

    Initiation invites a bunch of new followers into Sumo Cyco’s dystopian world of “Cyco City”! Last fall, Sumo Cyco dropped the official Digital Deluxe Edition of Initiationfeaturing their new single “Sun Eater”. The deluxe also includes new tracks such as “New Jive”, “We Are The Nation” and “Awakened”.

  • American Symphony Orchestra will host tribute to Duke Ellington on March 24 at Carnegie Hall

    The American Symphony Orchestra will be lead by music director Leon Botstein on March 24 in a tribute to the great Duke Ellington. The Duke Ellington tribute will be an all-Ellington symphonic concert at Carnegie Hall. The event will also feature American jazz pianist, Marcus Roberts and Grammy Award-winning jazz vocalist Catherine Russell.

    The performance was originally scheduled for March of 2020 but had to be cancelled due to the pandemic. In response to the pandemic, Marcus Roberts collaborated with the ASO on the short film titled United We Play which released in December of 2020. The film features three world premieres commissioned by the ASO and composed by Roberts.

    Duke Ellington employs a unique blend of classical and jazz compositional techniques that also combine improvisation with written works. As a result, this makes him one of the most influential jazz composers of all time.

  • DelFest announces addition of more artists to lineup

    Organizers of DelFest in Cumberland, MD have announced new additions to their 14th annual festival lineup. They’ve added Travelin’ McCourys, Robert Earl Keen, the Jerry Douglas Band, Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen, and the Price Sisters to the annual bluegrass music showcase.

  • Long Island’s Card Reader team up with Interstate Music for new music video “Reminder”

    Long Island Pop Punk band Card Reader have released a new music video called Reminder. The music video consists of Card Reader experiencing the city in their most enjoyable way and contains some footage from their first show performed at the Caribou Room back on Sept 23rd, 2021.

    The band is carrying into the new year with some momentum from last year. Card Reader participated in the championship of the Interstate Music Awards in 2021. From there on, Interstate Music made card reader an official brand ambassador.

    This video is a reflection of Interstate Music’s commitment to helping artists like us. We played our concert right before the shoot. The next day their film crew took us all over MKE. We really enjoyed ourselves in the process. The folks at IM introduced us to an incredible music scene. They fully embraced our band and made us feel at home. Thanks to Interstate Music we are a band with more tools, more confidence and unlimited optimism moving forward. We can proudly say we have two home bases now! Long Island AND Milwaukee.

  • 45th Annual Freihofer’s Jazz Festival Returns to SPAC June 25th and 26th with Wynton Marsalis, Booker T and many more

    June 25th and 26th will be two days of the 45th Annual Freihofer’s Jazz Festival at SPAC in Saratoga Springs. The weekend event will feature a plethora of legendary and Grammy award-winning musicians.

    Freihofer’s Saratoga Jazz Festival has been one of North America’s largest jazz festivals over the past 45 years. This year’s festival will mark the 25th anniversary of its partnership with Freihofer’s. The bakery committed a multi-year sponsorship to the festival. The Festival will have a weekend of entertaining music, and other amenities to enjoy as well. This includes an arts and crafts fair, artist CD signings, and food vendors.

    Saratoga Performing Arts Center will allow families to bring their own food, blankets, tents, and lawn umbrellas. A $20 student and child amphitheater pass will be offered for children ages 12 and under and students with school-issued ID at the time of entrance. Also, parking will be free.

  • Sly Fox and the Hustlers release “Find Someone,” Perfectly timed for Valentine’s Day

    Albany band Sly Fox And The Hustlers today release their newest single, “Find Someone,” perfectly timed for Valentine’s Day. The new single is the lead off their upcoming album which drops in May. “Find Someone” is a groovy rock tune that will get you moving on your feet, the basis of the which goes into Sly’s story on how to get over your past failed relationships in search for your true soul mate.

    Sly Fox And The Hustlers are a very multidimensional rock band as they bring different variations of the genre to the table. Their prior songs such as “Forever Young,” “Home by Mornin’,” and “Heart and Soul” exemplify all different tempos within the rock genre while blending some country, funk, and blues influence. These three songs will definitely build your anticipation for their new upcoming single.

    “Find Someone” was mixed by Tim Lynch from The Recording Company and mastered by Brian Lucey from Magic Garden Mastering, and will be available on all streaming platforms.   • “Rent” 25th Anniversary Tour is Coming to Proctors Theatre

    The world renowned and award winning musical RENT is coming to Schenectady for it’s 25th Anniversary Farewell Tour, as the musical will be at Proctors Theatre for back to back nights on February 11th and 12th.

    RENT, the musical created by Jonathan Larson, follows the lives of a young group of artists pursuing their dreams in Lower Manhattan. Debuting on February 13th, 1996 at the New York Theatre Workshop, RENT then went to Broadway in April of that same year, winning a Pulitzer Prize award as well as a Tony award.

    The musical was adapted into a movie in the year 2005. RENT also became one of the longest running musicals on Broadway, showcasing the production for 12 years.

    After its run on Broadway, RENT began to tour all over the United States and the rest of the world performing in six continents and 27 countries. For international tours, RENT was translated into different languages.

    RENT has toured around the world for 24 years and this year will be fans last opportunity to see it.
