  • The Town Hall to Host “A Tribute To Bob Dylan” This September

    On Sep. 30 at 8 P.M., The Town Hall will present A Tribute to Bob Dylan, with performances from Sara Bareilles, Bill Frisell, Margaret Glaspy, Punch Brothers, and more.

    Curated by Grammy-winning producer and songwriter T Bone Burnett, the lineup features a diverse set of artists who will each perform songs from Bob Dylan’s long career. The concert also honors Dylan’s 1963 debut at The Town Hall and all proceeds will benefit the venue.

    Dylan’s debut at the Hall back in 1963 marked a turning point in the musician’s life. The show would be the largest hall he had ever performed in at the time and moved him from Greenwich Village to uptown. Dylan’s first concert at the Hall also marked a shift at the venue, which previously held mostly classical music events, towards the protest music of the 60s and 70s.

    Town Hall has been the location of many fateful moments, and I’m grateful for the invitation to celebrate one of those historic evenings on the 60th anniversary of Bob Dylan’s first concert there … He sang twenty-four songs that night, all of which have been woven into the fabric of our culture. We are going to play a few of those songs, and we are also going to celebrate the sixty years of songs that have followed that night.

    The Town Hall opened in 1921 and has become world-renowned for its civic events and for its history of debuts and inclusivity. With the aim to provide accessible world-class entertainment and to inspire youth in the community to appreciate the arts, the Hall has been a staple in NYC.

    As The Town Hall reflects on its role in New York City and the world, we are turning to the great artists and movements that have shaped who we’ve become … there’s no one more befitting of celebration than Bob Dylan, whose lyrics have carried us through personal and social tragedies and transformation repeatedly over the last six decades. We can think of no one better to partner with than Dylan’s close collaborator and friend of our hall: the legendary artist T Bone Burnett.

  • Marina Laurendi to Release Debut EP Stay Mine

    NYC-based singer-songwriter Marina Laurendi is set to release her full debut EP, Stay Mine, on Friday, Aug. 26.

    A native of Western NY, Laurendi blends two energies into her album: the pulse of NYC and the nostalgia of her quieter roots. The EP comes after three previous single releases, “Gramercy,” “Neighborhood Kids,” and “Upper East Side,” out earlier this year. 

    With a sound similar to early Lana Del Rey, Best Coast, and Phoebe Bridgers, and vivid lyricism intertwined, the four-track Stay Mine EP cuts deep. The title track describes a larger-than-life romance with an invitation for adventure. With a moody timpani beat, electric guitar, and ethereal three-part harmony, the song pulls you in and keeps you there throughout the journey.

    Marina Laurendi’s tales of idealism, dreaming, nostalgia, and wanderlust are beautifully written and captured within the tracks of Stay Mine. The poetic stories Laurendi shares are genuine as they are creative. While the instrumentation on the album varies from slow strums to upbeat pop percussion, Laurendi’s voice and clear tone stay consistent.

    With the debut EP Stay Mine, Marina Laurendi cements herself as someone to watch in the alternative music scene. The young artist is also currently a quarter-finalist in the competition to open at this year’s Hollywood Bowl with voting ending Sep. 1.

    Be sure to take a listen to the entire EP when it releases on Aug. 26. Until then, croon alongside Laurendi with her recent single releases and reminisce with her authentic lyricism.

  • Beau Fleuve Music & Arts Celebration Begins This Weekend in Buffalo

    On Aug. 28, the sixth annual Beau Fleuve Music & Arts Celebration will return to Buffalo Central Terminal for a full day of programming.

    Beginning at 2 P.M. and ending at 9 P.M., the festival is a one-day event but will hold various activities to enjoy in the days leading up to the annual fest on the 28. Known as one of Buffalo’s most diverse festivals, the event hosts multiple genres of music, art, and culture for attendees to enjoy.

    The Beau Fleuve Music & Arts celebration will bring international musical acts across multiple stages including Stove God Cooks, DNTWATCHTV, Q Brock, Lindsay Niccs, Grace Greenan, and many more. Audiences can expect the festival to represent multiple genres throughout the day.

    Festivalgoers can also enjoy art installations, a silent disco, poetry-spoken word, speaker events, fashion, backyard games, street art, and a family-fun area. Food and drink will also be available with a beer and wine garden and food trucks.

    In addition to the traditional Beau Fleuve Music & Arts Festival on Aug. 28, there will be fun events for attendees to enjoy leading up to the event in Buffalo. Entertainment includes a comedy show on Aug. 25, a happy hour on Aug. 26, and a field day with a softball game on Aug. 27.

  • The Yardbirds Announce Fall Tour with Stop at Daryl’s House

    The Yardbirds recently announced their Fall 2022 U.S. tour dates with six shows in the month of Sept. The English rock band will come to Daryl’s House in Pawling on Sep. 21 after stops in Massachusetts.

    Known for their experimental blues-rock sound, the Yardbirds brought the world some of the greatest musicians including Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Jimmy Page, and spurred British blues in the 1960s. The current lineup for the group includes original drummer/composer Jim McCarty, lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist John Idan, bassist Kenny Aaronson, lead guitarist Godfrey Townsend, and Myke Scavone of The Doughboys on harp, percussion, and backing vocals.

    With their chart-topping hit “For Your Love,” the Yardbirds captured fans’ attention and continue to meld heavy rock, wild jams, blues, and more. The band’s most recently released the super deluxe version of their 1966 album, Roger the Engineer, in 2021. The album features multiple versions of tracks, mixes, and more with 40 tracks total.

  • Marco Benevento Announces New Tour Dates With Stop in Brooklyn This Fall

    Multi-instrumentalist Marco Benevento has announced additional tour dates to his upcoming fall tour including a stop at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn this November. The run is in support of the artist’s recent studio album released this June titled, Benevento.

    Based in Hudson Valley, Benevento begins his tour on Sept. 3 in Portland, Maine, at the Ghostland Festival before closing out in Holyoke, Massachusetts, at Race Street Live on Nov. 19. The newly added dates and Brooklyn stop will bring the artist back to the place where he was a resident for almost 20 years.

    Benevento recorded his recent album in the middle of the pandemic at his home studio in Hudson Valley. His solo jam sessions spurred inspiration as did the ability to experiment with instruments and equipment that had been unused for some time. While most of the record was solely Benevento, his wife and daughter contributed to the album as vocalists.

    The album was released with rave reviews from listeners. The 11-track album includes elements of lo-fi dance jams, psychedelic, and West-African groove, and is a 40-minute record of creative experimentation.

  • Steve Aoki to Headline Marquee’s New York Fashion Week Kick Off

    On Sept. 8, DJ and music producer Steve Aoki will headline Marquee’s New York Fashion Week Kick-Off Party.

    Aoki has an impressive history of performances at festivals such as Coachella, Ultra Music Festival, Lollapalooza, and many more. The two-time Grammy nominee will be previewing new music from his forthcoming studio album HiROQUEST: Genesis which is set for release on Sept. 16. 

    HiROQUEST: Genesis features multiple collaborations with artists such as Taking Back Sunday, Kane Brown, MOD SUN, Santa Fe Klan, Snow Tha Product, John Martin, Lil Xan, and more. The 26-track LP blends elements of contemporary Latin, pop, pop-punk, and dance.

    Steve Aoki as a fashion designer, artist, entrepreneur, and Dim Mak Records founder is one of the most in-demand acts in the world. Previous collaborations with Aoki include BTS, Maluma, Snoop Dogg, Linkin Park, blink-182, One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson, Machine Gun Kelly, and Lil Uzi Vert. The upcoming album is the artist’s highly-anticipated seventh studio album. 

    New York Fashion Week, held in February and September of each year, is a semi-annual series of events when international fashion collections are shown to buyers, the press, and the general public.

  • State Champs Announce New Tour With Two NY Stops

    State Champs have announced their Kings Of The New Age tour which will begin in November and end in the band’s hometown of Albany in December. The tour is in promotion of the group’s new album and special guests Hunny, Between You & Me, Young Culture, Games We Play, and Save Face will join for select dates.

    State Champs released their 4th studio album, Kings Of The New Age, earlier this year. Comprised of Derek DiScanio, Tyler Szalkowski, Ryan Scott Graham, and Evan Ambrosio, the group has been on the pop-punk scene for years. Guest vocalists on the newest album include Chrissy Costanza, Mitchell Tenpenny, and Four Year Strong. At 35 minutes long, the 11-track work doubles down on the vibrant sound State Champs has produced for over a decade.

    Kings of The New Age is our fourth album, the one that we spent the most time on, and the one that makes the biggest statement. After writing over 30 songs, we narrowed it down to 11 that best represent our mission as a band, and sonically, match the energy level we wanted to captivate heading into this new chapter.

    State Champs began in bedrooms and basements in 2010 and grew into a band with a faithful legion of fans. The upcoming tour brings the Albany band to various states and cities across North America for great nights of pop-punk sound. On Nov. 13, the group will play at the Brooklyn Steel before returning to New York for the final show at Empire Live on Dec. 10.

    I’m particularly excited for the KOTNA Tour because of how much we as a band are focusing on the aesthetic and flow of the show … this will be the first tour where it feels more like an experience rather than just a band on stage playing songs. The stage production is by far the most unique and badass it’s ever been, and you bet the mixture of songs in our catalog (new songs, old songs, and some surprises) will create a wild setlist. Best night ever.

  • Bryant Park Announces September Picnic Performances

    Bryant Park has shared new performers for their Picnic Performances this Sept. The free concerts highlight new and established acts from the classical, jazz, and global pop genres.

    The first of the Picnic Performances begin on Sept. 9 with 20-year-old trumpeter Summer Camargo. Camargo currently studies at the Julliard School and is a rising star in the jazz music scene. She will be performing with her Sextet.

    On Sept. 16, the Accordion Festival returns to Bryant Park after a two-year hiatus. The festival will feature bands and free reed instrumentalists who hail from various different backgrounds and cultures. Attendees can hear from Afghani musician Ahmad Fanoos alongside his sons, Ukrainian music from two ensembles, the experimental Balaklava Blues, and much more. The day will also hold the premiere of Cinco12: The Music of Selena which honors the music of the late artist with performances of some of her best hits.

    Directly after the Accordion Festival, the American Symphony Orchestra will present a free concert on Sept. 17 to celebrate its 60 anniversary. The program features established composers showcasing works inspired by NYC. The three newly announced dates will add to the already busy September at Bryant Park. The New York City Opera, and a duet from jazz pianists Aaron Diehl and Orrin Evans, will occur earlier in the month.

    Attendees to any of the Bryant Park Picnic Performances can bring food or enjoy a selection of options from local NYC vendors. Picnic chairs and blankets will also be provided at no cost for the performances.

  • NYC’s Midnight Theatre to Open on September 21

    On Sept. 21, the new variety theater Midnight Theatre will open its doors for the first time. Situated in midtown Manhattan, the performance venue will offer a great setting for music, magic, theater, and performance art.

    Creative Director Warren Adcock conceptualized the 160-seat theater which will also be the first home for Mastercard’s innovative multisensory studio. The Midnight Theatre also includes a permanently installed 270-degree projection system that can digitally alter the appearance of the space to transport audiences anywhere. With animated environments that can react to the beat of a song, versatile audio-visual systems, and full live-stream capabilities, the venue is high-tech for the best entertainment.

    In addition to the engaging offerings as an entertainment space, Midnight Theatre is home to the pan-Asian restaurant and bar, Hidden Leaf. The latest restaurant from Josh Cohen opened in July. The Midnight Cafe is also open bringing customers crafted cocktails with a high-energy, 70’s Italian disco soundtrack.

    The venue will host shows of magic, music, and comedy in early Sept. as a sneak peek at what is to come in the fall and winter seasons. As part of the future lineup, a signature show, A Brief History of Magic, is set to premiere.

    With the theater opening, this completes the dream of creating the ideal New York night out all under one roof. There’s been such a positive response to the opening of Hidden Leaf, and it’s been rewarding to see guests come enjoy the dining and cocktails that we have to offer. We are beyond excited to extend their experience inside the walls of the tech-enhanced Midnight Theatre with intimate, one-of-a-kind storytelling across magic, music, comedy and much more.

  • NYC Non-Profit Creative Muse Announces Expansion of Arts Programming

    After receiving a highly-sought after $1.7 million grant from Creatives Rebuild New York, the NYC non-profit Creative Muse is working with multidisciplinary artists to expand the arts programming on Manhattan’s Lower East Side.

    Founded in 2017, Creative Muse provides programming and mentorship to youth and adults placing importance on creativity and mindfulness. The organization primarily serves people of color, immigrant communities, and low-income individuals to help them access the creative and social skills critical for success. 

    Some of the programs being added due to the grant include artist residencies at Campos Plaza which will provide vulnerable youth, families, and communities the opportunity to creatively express themselves. The residency will allow individuals access to a theater, digital tablets, beat-making equipment, and more.

    Providing professional artists with full-time employment, in an environment that allows them to pursue their craft, will lead to more robust programming for our students and communities and help solidify New York’s status as an artist-friendly state.

    Creative Muse was also founded with the aim to provide employment and mentorship opportunities for other adult artists and an environment where they are full-time employees. The non-profit offers higher than average hourly rates, monthly customized workshops, a robust substitute roster, a two-teacher per class requirement, and a great environment for artists to create.

    As an artist, flexibility in a work schedule is crucial … this is the reason why many artists have little choice but to take on various part-time/contract jobs instead of committing to full-time work, effectively making basic socio-economic rights such as financial stability, healthcare, retirement savings, etc. luxuries instead of the norm. A workplace that ensures all of these rights while allowing us the freedom to pursue our own artistic endeavors is a rare and unbelievably special opportunity.

    With the support of CRNY, Creative Muse plans to continue to expand its programming throughout 2022.  All programs will integrate Creative Muse’s model for mindfulness and social-emotional learning, which includes promoting resiliency and optimistic thinking. Stay tuned for community events, slam poetry readings, comedy shows, open mic nights, and more from the non-profit. 

    While being a musician has many redeeming qualities, we are merely human and yearn for true fulfillment … having the opportunity to apply my multiple decades of artistic experience to work with future generations fills a void that performing alone is unable to.
