The Brooklyn-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist began writing and composing by and for himself for the first time in fifteen years following the end of synth-pop duo&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/rockyourlyrics.com\/tangle-interview-with-kevin-marksson-saint-marilyn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Saint Marilyn<\/a>&nbsp;in 2019. &#8220;<em>Left Side<\/em>&#8221; is definitely a way to start his single career strong. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.nysmusic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/b4141842-1d91-4291-825e-ae5f65fc3f77-768x768.jpg\" alt=\"Endearments\" class=\"wp-image-370577\"\/><figcaption>Album Cover<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The song itself is about how O.C.D. (Obsessive\u2013Compulsive Disorder) affects Marksson and his relationships. The resulting track unspools unanswerable questions over mighty pulses from drummer Jonathan Schmidt and Marksson\u2019s own multi-tracked vocals, which flicker, omnipresent and cool, around the edges of the song\u2019s atmosphere. In this song the <a href=\"https:\/\/nysmusic.com\/site\/category\/genres\/electronic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">low-fi <\/a>beat with his voice is one where you can just close your eyes and vibe out to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This single&nbsp;has Marksson leaning into his obsessive tendencies pouring over every sound and lyric, tweaking every riff and arpeggiation to convey the inner workings of his mind: disorder and parallelism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.nysmusic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/1cae3141-3db3-4c1a-8407-31feaaf73adc-768x771.jpg\" alt=\"Endearments\" class=\"wp-image-370580\"\/><figcaption>Photo Cred: Rita Iovine<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His chosen name,&nbsp;Endearments, is because \u201cI wanted the name to convey affection, even though I knew the music would almost certainly be sad.\u201d <br>Taking inspiration from auteurs like Peter Gabriel and Justin Vernon, Endearments\u2019 lush sonics and careful songcraft reflect Marksson\u2019s avowed status as a hardware-focused composer.
