Rough and Rowdy Ways follows the release of the singles “Murder Most Foul” and “I Contain Multitudes,” with the former earning Dylan his first-ever #1 song under his own name on any Billboard chart. Dylan has also announced a 1980s-era bootleg series release, and streamed a concert called Shadow Kingdom.

Dylan’s fall dates will also mark the return of the road band, a slightly altered version of the group that hit the road in the fall of 2019, with two new members featured alongside regulars Charlie Sexton, Tony Garnier and Donnie Herron.

The tour makes stops in NYC on November 19-21 at The Beacon Theatre, and then Bob Dylan will hold a two-night run right after at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester. Tickets will go on sale Oct. 1 via BobDylan.com.

  • Dan and Eugene Levy Announce “Schitt’s Creek” Book, October Appearance at the Beacon Theatre

Schitt’s Creek co-creators and the father-son duo, Eugene and Dan Levy, ended their Emmy and Golden Globe-Award winning show after 6 seasons and at the height of its fame, preserving its all around quality. Finally they give fans a little more, with Dan and Eugene Levy announcing a celebration for the launch of their book titled Best Wishes, Warmest Regards: The Story of Schitt’s Creek. If their short Netflix documentary left you in tears, hearing from them at their special one-night event at New York’s Beacon Theatre on October 25th will melt your heart.

    Schitt's Creek

Tickets to the Beacon Theatre event not only include admission but a copy of their upcoming book.

For those who can’t make it to the Beacon Theatre, the Levy’s will hold a simultaneous livestream on October 25th at 7:30pm EST. And if you miss the streaming, it will also be available for on-demand viewing until November 1st. The Best Wishes, Warmest Regards: The Story of Schitt’s Creek hardcover book will be mailed after publication date on Tuesday, October 26 to those with streaming access.

We are excited to be able to express our gratitude to a handful of those fans in person, safely, in New York, but also adding the livestream component… We look forward to celebrating all of you and this special book on October 25.

    Dan Levy

Best Wishes, Warmest Regards: The Story of Schitt’s Creek will encapsulate the glowing and hysterical environment that was Schitt’s Creek. This book will remind you how this record breaking show came to be, including a catalogue of Moira’s wigs, vocabulary, David’s knits, and Alexis’s adventures. They’ll delve into detail of Schitt’s Creek major scenes like Moira at Herb Ertlinger Winery, the Rose Family Christmas episode, and Patrick and David’s first kiss. We may never get more episodes of Schitt’s Creek but at least Levy’s book will evoke the memories and laughs we had watching the show for the first time.

  • Allman Family Revival Announces late Fall Tour Honoring Gregg Allman

On December 8, 2017, Devon Allman invited a couple dozen of his closest musical compadres onto the hallowed stage of The Fillmore in San Francisco to perform a three-hour, multi-set concert in tribute to Allman’s late father, Gregg, on what would have been his 70th birthday. The loss of his father, and his mother a few months prior, made music Devon’s medicine, and gave birth to The Allman Family Revival.

Now in its fifth year, The Allman Family Revival has evolved into a full-fledged, coast-to-coast tour. As curator, host, and performer, Allman remains true to the painstaking mission of providing an epic event worthy of its inspiration.

I want to make sure there’s some ‘sonic ginger,’ to cleanse the palette amidst all those guitars. I really enjoy working with the guests individually on setlists to make each show a very special night. It’s a daunting task, for sure, but a labor of love every time.

    Devon Allman

Now an annual tradition, Allman Family Revival has grown from an annual celebration in San Francisco to a full fledged coast to coast tour. Based on the format of “The Last Waltz” concert with The Allman Betts Band as the house band, and featuring up to a dozen marquee names in music

This year the touring lineup will include The Allman Betts Band, Robert Randolph, Donavon Frankenreiter, Lilly Hiatt, Cody and Luther Dickinson, Eric Gales, Joanne Shaw Taylor, Jimmy Hall, Lamar Williams Jr. plus many more to be announced.

The Allman Family Revival will also feature Kenny Wayne Shepherd, G. Love, Samantha Fish, Alex Orbison, and Kenny Aronoff in select markets.

Public on-sale begins 9/17. For tickets and all up to date information, visit allmanfamilyrevival.com.

  • Tedeschi Trucks Band to Celebrate 10 Years at The Beacon Theatre

Starting September 30th, Tedeschi Trucks Band will hold their first of seven shows at the Beacon Theatre to celebrate 10 years of performing. These NYC shows will be the band’s first performances since February 2020.

    tedeschi trucks beacon

The 2021 shows will feature artists such as Nels Cline: Consentrik Quartet on September 30th, Anders Osborne on October 5th, and Jorma Kaukonen on October 6th.

We’re thrilled to welcome Tedeschi Trucks Band back to The Beacon this fall with seven shows and to celebrate their 10th anniversary performing at the legendary theater. It is such a testament to the strength of Tedeschi Trucks Band’s connection to their audience that they can make this dual city residency a reality. These shows are another example of the unique, world-class entertainment options MSG Entertainment is able to offer with venues that span from intimate theaters such as The Beacon to The World’s Most Famous Arena, Madison Square Garden.

Darren Pfeffer, executive vice president, live, MSG Entertainment.

The band’s multi-year, dual-city residency with The Beacon Theatre has been highly successful in years prior, and this year is even more important as it is their 10th. The Beacon residency offers the talented 12-member group an opportunity to explore an especially large range of musical territory – often exceeding 100 different songs throughout the run. Guest sit-ins have also made the residency special.

Recent years have featured surprise appearances by Trey Anastasio, Nels Cline, Ravi Coltrane, Luther Dickinson, Amy Helm, Norah Jones, Eric Krasno, Robert Randolph, and Joss Stone, among others. While legacy acts such as the Allman Brothers Band and Steely Dan made the Beacon Theatre their home for multi-night performances, Tedeschi Trucks Band represents the next generation, pushing the envelope nightly with a loyal fanbase that looks forward each year to their run at the iconic venue.

  • Music Venues Spring Back to Life Across New York State

Continuing NYS Music’s look at the venues of New York State, we are now more than a year since music venues were forced to shut down, and signs of life are visible everywhere this spring.

While venues await relief from the Small Business Administration (SBA), who administer Shuttered Venue Operators Grant to eligible entities, there are some venues that have returned to live music. Restrictions are lifting, allowing for greater capacity at venues, as well as Drive-In shows and socially distanced concerts continuing well into August.

    Venues New York State

Once New York State has 70% of the population receiving one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, most remaining restrictions will be lifted, based on a statement from Gov. Cuomo last week.

Our March installment of ‘This Darkness Has Got to Give’ showed venues across New York State that started to come back to life with socially distanced shows. Now in June, we have crowds returning to venues, a summer of live music ahead in various arrays and a brighter 2021 in the making.

  • LOVE ROCKS NYC Returns to The Beacon Theater in June 2021

Live music comes back to New York’s Upper West Side this summer. The fifth annual LOVE ROCKS NYC benefit concert for God’s Love We Deliver returns on Thursday, June 3, 2021. LOVE ROCKS NYC

The stellar house cast will include Steve Gadd, Shawn Pelton, Eric Krasno, Larry Campbell, Jeff Young and Ricky Peterson. Ken Dashow will serve as the house DJ. The event will be hosted by Jeff Garlin from Curb your Enthusiasm, Michael Imperioli from The Sopranos, New York Yankee Bernie Williams and Special Guest Tina Fey of SNL. This years featured performers all-star lineup of pop, rock, blues and soul music stars to include Sara Bareilles, Jon Bon Jovi,, Gary Clark Jr., Billy F Gibbons, Warren Haynes, Joe Bonamassa, Emily King, Ledisi, Pedrito Martinez, Tash Neal, Fantastic Negrito, Ivan Neville, Robert Randolph, Nathaniel Rateliff, Jimmy Vivino, Yola and more to be added.

    LOVE ROCKS NYC
Steve Gadd, Robert Plant, Will Lee, Eric Krasno LOVE ROCKS NYC 2019

The past four LOVE ROCKS NYC benefit concerts have delivered a staggering array of music stars from legendary headliners such as Keith Richards, Dave Matthews, Mavis Staples, Robert Plant, Warren Haynes, Emmylou Harris, Buddy Guy, Andra Day, Ziggy Marley, Ann Wilson and Sheryl Crow to rising stars such as Leon Bridges, Marcus King, Allen Stone, Larkin Poe, Hozier and The War and Treaty.

LOVE ROCKS NYC 2020 served as a milestone as the first of many live streams last year with the touchdown of the pandemic before its performance last March. Upper West side resident Trey Anastasio helped carry the virtual torch at the end of last year with an 8 week residency to help raise money under the Beacon Jams for a charitable cause. This year’s concert event will also pay tribute to the NYC Front line workers who have played a critical role in supporting the city during the pandemic.

Fans anywhere can experience this memorable night of music by signing up at loverocksnyc.com to receive a free live stream link. You can help support the organization through the special $20 = 2 Meals suggested donation option on the website. Love Rocks NYC has helped raise more than $13 million to date.

Derek Trucks and his wife, Susan Tedeschi were surprise musical guests at last March’s Love Rocks NYC benefit. Attendance was limited to venue and production staff, artists and their teams and media. “That was the day they shut down, no gatherings over 500 people. So they did the show just for the webcast with maybe 200 or 300 guests in the audience,” Trucks said of the night. “It felt so strange to look over the Beacon and see a few hundred people dancing and having a good time but keeping their distance. It was an odd scene. That one felt like the last party before the end of the world.”

Paul Shaffer, David Letterman, Jeff Coffin LOVE ROCKS NYC 2020

Last March’s most special guest David Letterman reunited with Paul Shaffer on stage in New York City for the first time in five years. Letterman made light of the newly presented restrictions for the live music entertainment world by quoting Tom Petty’s song “Letting You Go.” “It’s a restless world, uncertain times, you said hope was getting hard to find.”

Letterman elaborated, “After listening to that song, tonight it occurs to me that when things are hard, harder than they’ve ever been, even more troubled, you have got to look for something positive and one of the great gifts, one of the great blessings of life, honest to God, is live music.”

  • Best of NYS Music 2020: Best Streams

Best of 2020 finds The Beacon Jams on the headline for threefold: It took the podium for ‘Best Streaming Series’, ‘Best Charitable Effort,’ and outstanding audience interaction. While we didn’t expect much from such a painstaking year, one thing remains true: music always prevails. The Beacon Jams and Trey also came up countless times in other Best Of categories.

Best of 2020: Overall Streaming Series

The Beacon Jams earns the Best of 2020 Streaming series, an eight-week residency featuring acoustic and electric performances from Trey Anastasio, with bonus content and audience interaction. New York City’s historic Beacon Theatre took this on as its first ever virtual residency. Anastasio performed every Friday at 8:00 p.m. ET from October 9, and concluded November 27. The effort streamed exclusively on Twitch.

With Trey’s name attached, it is hard to believe anything would fall short of ‘Best of.’ Trey is an all-in type of musician, despite being reluctant to create anything virtual. His leap of faith: The Beacon Jams.

Trey calls The Beacon home. With countless performances at the theatre it was a natural choice. After a crazy two years of touring Anastasio didn’t think live-streaming was necessary. Times changed and he was still creating, with the July release of Lonely Trip, as well as prerecorded SummerStage Jubilee performance and a Jimmy Fallon appearance. While the mass of energy (people) in a live performance is hard to match, Trey was not disappointed with the reaction from The Beacon Jams. In fact, it was overwhelming and inspiring. “I don’t know if I want to play without our community with me,” but we we’re right Trey. We’re right here.

So much of my work is about getting out of my own way, rather than fighting toward something. The work is to not mess up what already exists. There’s a tsunami of energy happening, and my mind is the impediment.”

Trey Anastasio – Homing Beacon, Relix interview
Best of 2020: Charitable Effort From a Streaming Series

In true Anastasio fashion, there is always a charity or greater good in mind. With The Beacon Jams, there were two: The WaterWheel Foundation and Divided Sky Fund (DSF). Since 1997 Phish and WaterWheel have been raising money for those in need via touring, while The Divided Sky Fund focuses more on delivering quality care and compassionate treatment for those suffering form alcoholism and addiction. Likewise, all net profit from The Beacon Jams merchandise sales went directly to DSF.

The Divided Sky Fund crushed their initial goal of $150,000. As the organization inched towards its benchmark with mass fan-donations under $100, large sums (upwards of $15,000) and merchandise sales currently raised over $422,000 dollars. This is again feat in itself, especially during times where fans may have had little money to spend. Anastiaso set the bar high, gave back, and instigated this generous giving-tree lifecycle.

You can still donate to DSF and aide The Beacon Jams’ efforts via Paypal HERE. Not only is your donation visible, but you can feature a public note or inspiration. A $20.00 donation is auto-populated, but amounts of any kind are more than generous, and can be marked anonymous. They are very close to their new $450,000 goal.

My hope is that this fund can touch many lives with positive support for addiction recovery. Thank you so much for music each Friday. It became something my girlfriend and I looked forward to every week.

Chris Strohm – Comments after Donating to DSF
Best Of 2020: Stream For Audience Interaction

Twenty-twenty was an odd-egg, but Anastasio opened a Beacon Jam set with “Corona,” interjecting a bit of comic-relief. Music lovers found happiness in all live stream series. It made light of a crude reality around us and social detachment. Livestreams sucked us back into how music should be: a constant, ever-changing dialogue between musicians, instruments and the fans.

    Other Streaming Series in 2020

Other streaming series were hot on NYS Music’s Best of list from Umphrey’s Mcgee, Aqueous, Goose’s Bingo Tour, Dinner and a Movie, Lotus, Noon Chorus, The Talking Dead and multiple mentions of moe. Share your favorite streams of 2020 with NYS Music.

Syracuse beat-driven psychedelic jam band, Vaporeyes, took their own flair to a livestream series via Facebook. With over a dozen episodes and a November album release, Cantrips, the band took advantage of live streams to the fullest.

Catch up on Vaporeyes’ live streams via Facebook

Heavy hitters moe. rolled with the punches after their drive-in series was shut down due to COVID-19 concerns. The band fired back with a live studio stream from Big Blue, and a saucy full length album stream from The Palace Theatre lobby. If you missed it, you missed out. Click play and get taken away with soaring vocals and unmistaken live-concert energy.

Red Rocks is magical in its own regard. Add a trippy light-show and cosmic jam band, and well, you see where this is going. Lotus dominated a livestream in two sets and you didn’t have to leave your couch. The 4K livestream sucked us into production. Lotus released Free Swim, a 10-track album on 2xLP Vinyl in August, paired with this event at the Ampitheater as we closed out September.

Make sure you check out all of your favorite bands and support them during these, still, turbulent times. Stay updated with NYS Music as your #1 source for all things music across New York State and beyond. The Best of 2020 is just beginning. And we promise, once we recap we’ll leave it where it belongs – dead in the past. Thank you to live stream series for keeping us alive.
