  • The 2021 Eddies Music Awards Announces Nominees and Ceremony

    The Capital Region Thomas Edison Music Awards or more commonly known as the Eddies Music Awards announced their 2021 nominees and ceremony date. The awards ceremony will be held at 7PM on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at Universal Preservation Hall in Saratoga Springs.

    This is the second installment of the Eddies Music Awards in 2021. This group of nominees represents works done by musicians in 2020. The first installment represented works done by musicians done in 2019 and were recognized during a live broadcast from UPH this May after two postponements due to the pandemic made them unable to host the awards ceremony in 2020 as planned.  

    This year’s categories will be a little different than in previous years. Sal Prizio, Eddies co-founder and co-producer explained this saying, “About half of the categories we presented in previous years were scuttled when looking at 2020. We took a poll of judges and there was near unanimous agreement that the genre categories such as best folk artist and best hard rock artist didn’t make sense, as so much of the assessment in those categories was based on live performance.” 

    The categories this year are: Arts Publication of the Year, Arts Journalist of the Year, Radio DJ of the Year, Radio Station of the Year, Music Recording Studio of the Year, Label of the Year, Music Video of the Year, Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Best Presenter of Virtual Live Music Shows, and Best Live Virtual Performance(s) by an Artist – Show or Series – Covers.  

    Tickets for the Eddies Music Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on October 27, 2021 and the Eddies Music Awards on November 14, 2021  are now on sale here.

  • 2021 Caroga Lake Music Festival Announces Season Schedule

    The 2021 Caroga Lake Music Festival announces its season schedule. The season will start on July 3, 2021 and will consist of 26 outdoor performances that will wrap up on August 22, 2021. 

    Sherman’s Concert Caroga Lake Music

    The 2021 season will mark the 10th Anniversary of the Caroga Lake Music Festival and the 100th birthday of the former Sherman’s Amusement Park which is located in Caroga Lake where the festivities will be taking place. The Caroga Lake Music Festival is presented by the Caroga Arts Collective and they try to host a diverse mix of musical programming exploring genres of classical, rock, jazz, bluegrass, ragtime, world music and everything in between.

    The festival is showcasing acclaimed local talent including Jocelyn and Chris, Girl Blue, Wild Adriatic, and North and South Dakotas, all of which are making their CLMF debuts at Sherman’s. Other highlights include Grammy-award winning bassist Geoff Saunders from Canada Lake (Caroga) and singer-songwriter Bill Ackerbauer from Green Lake (Caroga) with his 8 year old son will also perform at Sherman’s this season.

    Caroga Arts is following CDC and New York State guidelines to develop health protocols for artists, patrons, staff and volunteers. Concerts presented by Caroga Arts at Sherman’s will have reduced capacity and seating will be in physically distanced pods of 2, 4, and 6 people, which are assigned upon entry into the park. Concertgoers can reserve tickets, for free and charged seating, for Sherman’s concerts starting on June 17, 2021 here.

    Saturday, July 3 – Caroga Arts will kick off the Independence weekend with Red, White, BLUE and BLUEGRASS featuring Capital District’s well-known singer-songwriter Girl Blue and The North & South Dakotas. This event is free but ticket reservations are required.

    Saturday, July 31 – Praised by Alison Krauss, bluegrass virtuoso Sierra Hull performs at Caroga Lake Music Festival with saxophonist Eddie Barbash and bassist Geoff Saunders, with the Saunders Family Band opening the night.

    Saturday, August 7 – Hailing from Fort Plain, NY, the Blues-rock powerhouse sibling duo Jocelyn and Chris make their Caroga Lake Music Festival debut at Sherman’s.

    Saturday, August 14 – Celebrate the Sherman’s Centennial with Ragtime pianist Ethan Uslan, a three-time World Championship winner of the Old-Time Piano Playing Contest, who will take you back a hundred years with popular tunes like Scott Joplin’s “Maple Leaf Rag”

    Saturday, August 21 – Rooted in the rowdy spirit of rock & roll, Wild Adriatic has built an international audience on a combination of groove, grit, and guitar-heavy swagger.

    Wednesday, July 28 – Bluegrass supergroup Hawktail consists of Crooked Still’s fiddler Brittany Haas, Punch Brothers’ bassist Paul Kowert, guitarist Jordan Tice, and mandolinist Dominick Leslie.

    Wednesday, August 4 – Saxophonist Eddie Barbash, featured jazz musician in Disney’s Oscar-winning Pixar movie “Soul”, is a founding member of John Batiste’s Stay Human and can be heard in The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’s theme song.

    Wednesday, August 11 – Experience Latin American culture with Tango Rendezvous: Celebrating Astor Piazzolla’s 100th Birthday showcasing Argentinian violinist Alejandro Drago with CLMF Resident Artists.

    Wednesday, August 18 – Praised by the Chicago Tribune as "Some of the most luxuriant, sumptuously phrased jazz vocals you could hope to hear classically-trained jazz vocalist Laurin Talese most recently performed with The Philadelphia Orchestra at the Mann Center.

    Lakeside Classics: CLMF 10th Anniversary Series at Sherman’s

    Friday, July 30 – In the first Lakeside Classics program “Roaring Back”, CLMF Resident Artists will perform George Walker’s Lyric for Strings and Mendelssohn’s Concerto for Violin and Strings with Seattle Symphony violinist Andy Liang – plus an appearance by saxophonist Eddie Barbash.

    Friday, August 6 – The “Stars and Strums” program showcases composer Jessie Montgomery’s two works Starburst and Strum, among other works. Jazz pianist David Cook, also known as Taylor Swift’s Music Director, will make an appearance with the Caroga Arts Ensemble.

    Friday, August 13 – A brainchild of Artistic Director Kyle Price, the featured piece “Classic Case of Double Trouble” is a composite multi-genre arrangement of famous classical double concertos by Bach, Mozart, and Vivaldi. The program also features guests Glenn Zaleski on piano and his wife Tomoko Omura on violin.

    Friday, August 20 – As the program title “Darth Vader meets Debussy” suggests, this concert features a medley of John Williams’ Star Wars and the well-known Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun (“Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune”) arranged by CLMF Artist and clarinetist Graeme Steele Johnson, as well as Piazzolla’s Primavera Porteña and more.

    Sunday, August 22 – To conclude the 2021 Season, CLMF presents a new collaboration with world music duo of Indian Tabla and Cello featuring Sandeep Das and Mike Block from the Grammy Award-winning Silk Road Ensemble.

  • The Peach Music Festival Announces Jam-Packed 2021 Lineup, Daily Schedules and Streams

    The Peach Music Festival has confirmed 2021 dates, taking place July 1-4, 2021 at The Pavilion at Montage Mountain in Scranton, PA. The lineup this year is jam packed, with a lineup reminiscent of early Bonnaroos.

    Headlining Peach Fest will be supergroup Oysterhead, as well as Joe Russo’s Almost Dead (with special guest Oteil Burbridge) and String Cheese Incident, whom will each perform two sets.

    Warren Haynes will also bring some new flair – and Allman Brothers cred – to the 2021 lineup, whereas bluegrass phenom Billy Strings and rising stars Goose did not carry over from 2020’s roster.

    Also on the Peach Fest 2021 lineup are Umphrey’s McGee, moe., Dark Star Orchestra, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Twiddle, Oteil & Friends, Spafford, Dopapod, Ghost Light, Blackberry Smoke, Doom Flamingo, Keller Williams, Neal Francis, Scott Sharrard & Friends, Andy Frasco & The U.N., TAUK, Aqueous, Nicole Atkins, Brandon “Taz” Niederauer, Cordovas, The Nth Power featuring Jennifer Hartswick, Kitchen Dwellers, Mikaela Davis, Magic Beans, Karina Rykman, Blind Boys Of Alabama and more.

    Daily lineups have just been announced as well, with headliners including two sets of Pigeons Playing Ping Pong on Thursday, July 1, two sets of Joe Russo’s Almost Dead on Friday, July 2, Oysterhead on Saturday, July 3, and two sets of The String Cheese Incident on Sunday, July 4.

    Peach Fest’s Allman Brothers Band roots will be on full display for a celebration of the 50th anniversary of At Fillmore East. Burbridge, Warren Haynes, Jaimoe, Devon Allman and The Allman Betts Band are set to play as well. Turkuaz will bring their Talking Heads Remain In Light performance, originally slated for 2020, featuring Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads and Adrian Belew.

    The initial FANS livestream lineup features festival headliners each night. Thursday’s stream features Pigeons Playing Ping Pong and Dark Star Orchestra; Friday FANS will air Umphrey’s McGee; Saturday’s stream will be Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, a finale on Sunday with two sets of The String Cheese Incident. 

    Peach fest 2021

    The Peach Music Festival started back in 2012 and has become a beloved annual festival in Northeastern Pennsylvania. It takes place every year at The Pavilion at Montage Mountain, a ski area in Scranton, PA. The festival unfortunately wasn’t able to take place like many other festivals in 2020 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

    The festival will take place in 2021 as long as reopening plans in Pennsylvania continue according to plan. According to the New York Times, Pennsylvania is set to be fully opened by May 31. The festival includes camping, vendors, live music, and much much more. The announcement did not include information on what the festival would look like in terms of COVID-19 guidelines or other social distancing measures, but it can be assumed it will at least follow state and local guidelines. 

    Tickets for the festivities are on sale already. There are 2 types of non-VIP passes: a 4-Day Reserved Pass and a 4-Day GA Pass. The 4-Day Reserved Passes provide you a reserved seat in the Pavilion 100 level during headlining acts & the artist directly before the headlining acts.

    Prior to those performances, everyone will have access to the 100 level except for a small portion that is reserved for a VIP viewing area. During the headlining performances, a 4-Day GA Pass will get you access to all remaining areas of the concert venue except for the 100 level and VIP areas. 2021 Wristbands will be shipped out approximately 3 weeks prior to the event. People who want to camp are required to purchase a Festival Pass + Camping Bundle. Currently there are 4 Day General Admission Passes available.

  • Governors Ball Music Festival Announces 2021 Dates

    Governors Ball Music Festival announced it’s 2021 dates tentatively scheduling its 2021 edition for September 24-26. The festival generally takes place in June but is optimistically hoping by September that COVID-19 will be under wraps enough for the festival to take place. 

    The Governors Ball is a widely known and loved festival that takes place in Randall’s Island in New York City. Usually it has an attendance of sound 150,000 people and takes across four stages and over 70 acts. There is also a food program that is part of the festivities and it features the City’s best eats and highlights its incredible culinary diversity. It also hosts visual art, beverages, art installations, statues, high flying inflatables, and pop up performances.

    Organizers of the festival released a statement saying that, “We’ve decided to move the 2021 show to a time of year that is both more realistic and safer for all and while there are still question marks and unknowns in the World, rest assured that we are working closely with City and State authorities to ensure that the next Gov Ball will be a safe and amazing experience. We’ll be back to our regular June dates starting in 2022.”

    There isn’t a lot of information on the 2021 version of Governors Ball but there is some on their website. The lineup will not be the same lineup as the cancelled 2020 festival lineup. They haven’t announced who is on the lineup yet but have dropped a hint saying, “The lineup will be brand new! (Note: this is not a hint).” They are also saying the festival will return to it;s normal June dates in 2022. People who I held onto their tickets from the 2020 festival, but I can no longer make the new 2021 dates. Can I get a refund by requesting a refund for their ticket purchase but they must do so by Wednesday, January 27th at 11:59:59pm EST. If the festival doesn’t end up being feasible because of COVID-19 all tickets will be available for a refund. 

    The hope is with vaccines rolling out and many experts predicting a return to live music events in the Fall the festival will be able to take place in September. For more information on the Governors Ball and it’s new dates visit their website.
