Toubab Krewe, the genre-defying quintet that fuses west-African traditional music with elements of rock, jam, and Appalachian styles, will continue it’s ‘What is Tour 2021’ on December 1 with a show in Wayne, PA at 118 North. The group will then head to Nublu 151 in NYC on December 2.
Many of the dates are re-scheduled from a COVID postponed tour in April of 2020. The band will film the PBS special ‘Echo Sessions’ in Asheville, NC in December, and then finish the year at the No Resolutions Festival in Branford, FL on December 30, headlined by Big Gigantic, Girl Talk, and others.
Formed in 2005, Toubab Krewe has tenaciously honed their craft through relentless touring and a fierce dedication to carving out something they can truly call their own. The fruits of this hard work can be heard on their latest release, STYLO, (March 2nd, 2018). What Justin Perkins (Kora, Kamelngoni, guitar, percussion), Terrence Houston (drumset), Drew Heller (guitar, organ), Justin Kimmel (bass, keys), and Luke Quaranta (Djembe, Congas, Dundun, Sangban, Kinkini) have wrought on STYLO reflects the many miles and musical journeys that have transpired since their last studio album, TK2.

Lettuceblazed back to Buffalo during their Fall run of their 2021 Bring Back The Love Tour. This past July they crushedLake George and Western New York’s Art Park. The group played the fully renovated historic Buffalo Town Ballroom on Main Street. The three floor club is an infamous hometown venue to funk artists Rick James and Soulive.
Lettuce founding member Sam Kininger joined for one just gig this summer at the Lake George Adirondack stage. This fall, he has been on tour with Lettuce for every club date and has helped fill out a three-piece brass section with Benny Bloom and Ryan Zoidis. Like Drummer Adam Deitch told NYS music, “Sam’s the godfather of Lettuce”
The November 11 performance went from 8:15 till 10:15 with Lettuce crushing all the way through without leaving the stage for the encore. The current Lettuce hybrid batch is also made up of Erick “Jesus” Coombs on bass, Adam “Shmeeans” Smirnoff on guitar and Nigel Hall on keyboards and vocals.
They treated the Buffalo audience to “Break Out” from their infamous 2004 Live in Tokyo Album. Legendary artist Steve Gadd told NYS music the secret to any live gig. “When you get it musically to a level where everyone on the bandstand is having fun and can hear each other and you can trust the audience is hearing it the way you are, it gets to a spiritual level. In Japan or wherever you are. That’s the goal.”
The spirit of Buffalo legend Rick James could be felt in the house on Wednesday. To pay homage to the city of Buffalo’s funk artist, Lettuce burnt “Mary Jane” from his debut album Come Get It. Like Buffalo native Alan Evans told NYS Music about James’ music, “Its hard to choose…Bustin out of L Seven on vinyl, you kinda can’t go wrong with. That’s a dope record.”
Come catch Lettuce bust out more funk on the road in America with dates leading up to a New Years Eve show at Miami’s North Beach Band Shell. The first week of the new year Lettuce Drummer Adam Deitch will join DJ Logic & a world-class line-up of Friends including Karl Denson on saxophone and MonoNeon on bass at New York’s Blue Note. Lettuce kicks off 2022 with a European tour starting 2/22 for two months.

The Allman Betts Band has announced their ‘Trippin’ into Spring 2022′ tour dates. The run will begin on March 1 in Milwaukee, WI, and will make stops across the country and Hawaii.
Ahead of the Spring tour, the Allman Betts Band will be on the road as part of The Allman Family Revival tour – a 19 date, star-studded celebration of the life, spirit, and music of Gregg Allman.
When The Allman Betts Band released Down to the River in June of 2019, the debut album represented not only the first time the group had recorded together, but, in fact, the first time the seven-piece ensemble had ever played together. If Down to the River was the sound of the band’s combustible sparks igniting, then Bless Your Heart is their bonfire, built for the summer of 2020 and beyond; a double-album follow-up fueled by road-forged camaraderie and telepathic musical intensity, vibrantly reflecting the individual and collective experiences of these seven, all drawing inspiration from the band’s symbolic hometown- a place Devon Allman calls “the United States of Americana.”
All up to date news and tour information can be found at allmanbettsband.com.

The Jauntee have announced a Fall Tour that brings the Colorado band back to the East Coast for the first time since 2019. They’ll make a stop in Albany on Thursday, November 18 and close the tour out in Buffalo on Sunday, November 21.
The band was poised to take the live scene by storm in 2020, with numerous support runs at some of the country’s most renowned venues along with a number of summer festival appearances. Then, complications arose from the virus which led the band to hunker down and provide their fans with a long series of full set live-streams with zero repeats they coined at “JaunTV.” Picking up where they left off, this tour will likely see many new fans introduced to the magic of their new-age improvisation.
This summer, the band was able to venture to Texas and the Midwest for appearances around Summer Camp Music Festival. This Fall tour will find The Jauntee heading back to the Southeast with shows at Smith’s Olde Bar in Atlanta and Charleston Pour House. They’ll venture into the DC and New Jersey region before heading up to their home turf in the Northeast, playing Albany, Boston, Burlington and Buffalo. The band heads back to Colorado where they will play the anniversary party for Beyond The Mountain Brewing in Boulder in December.
The Jauntee was recently added to the Nugs.net catalog, featuring 1000s of live performance recordings from dozens of bands. All shows from this Fall Tour will be posted on Nugs shortly after each show here.

Buffalo’s Donny Frauenhofer Trio will celebrate the culmination of a decade of work as they take the next step as a live band, releasing their debut album on Friday, October 22. The night before, the trio will perform at Sportsmen’s Tavern.
Donny Frauenhofer Trio, also known as DF3, consists of Isaiah Griffin on drums, Colin Brydalski on bass, and Frauenhofer on keys. Coined as “The Weirdest Music You’ve Never Heard,” Donny’s trio is creatively driven by spontaneity. The group travels through time signatures, styles, and key signatures with ease, making Frauenhofer’s complicated compositions sound like a walk in the park. The group plays a daring brand of original music with unique arrangements of popular tunes tastefully sprinkled in.
With an album full of originals, two notable covers get a jazz treatment, with DF3 approaching Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall” and Fall Out Boy’s “Sugar We’re Goin Down” as though they are entirely new compositions,
The album has taken 10 years to get here, although the trio didn’t start until about 2016, playing consistently starting in 2018. There is also the factor of capturing the music, learning the language of music and studying all the aspects of playing and performing it. 10 years ago, Frauenhofer did not see the dream of being signed on a label and just making music as possible or as probable as many of his peers. He saw where things were heading with the music business and how to monetize it, so he set out to learn as much as possible about recording, engineering, mixing, mastering, and producing as much as I could.
Frauenhofer didn’t want to release an album until he felt he was somewhat capable of doing the quality he wanted for himself. 10 years of digging into jazz and trying to find his own sound, that is when many compositions took root. He would often tell friends “I had this sound in my head I couldn’t describe,” and a lot of artists he was a fan of were in that realm, but Frauenhofer had a particular vibe, an air or atmosphere that he wanted to capture.
Regarding the jazz scene in Buffalo, Frauenhofer notes the great deal of talent in the scene, with a small but passionate audience that is continuing to grow.
My goal is to get more of my generation involved. A lot of this album reflects that – using contemporary styles from my generation and putting that in a jazz setting, or vice-versa. Electronic music styles and hip-hop in particular can really get young crowds excited and be a great window into more traditional styles of jazz
Donny Frauenhofer, on the Buffalo Jazz scene
The album release show will take place on Thursday, October 21st at Sportsmens Tavern in Buffalo. The show kicks off at 7pm with the band playing two sets of music, with physical copies of Uppin’ the Ante available at the show. Guest musicians will also be performing with the trio.
The release of this upcoming album marks the distinctive transformation of #DF3 from a local live act to a burgeoning national touring force. Uppin’ the Ante will be available on all streaming platforms on Friday, October 22nd. Along with this exciting release, the band will soon be announcing tour dates for the remainder of 2021.
Donny Frauenhofer Trio perform on Thursday, October 21 at 7:00 PM Sportsmens Tavern. Tickets are $12 and available here, with additional info available via the Facebook event.
Henry Rollins has lived many lives to say the least. His “Good To See You” 2022 Tour will recount the events of his life in the brief pre-COVID-19 period since the last tour as well as the reality of living through a pandemic. It’s been an interesting time to say the least and he’s got some great stories to tell.
Lived many lives is completely an understatement. You may have seen his face in perhaps his own show, The Henry Rollins show which aired in 2006-2007. Or maybe his featuring on shows like Portlandia, Dreamland, or Sons of Anarchy. Or maybe you’ve heard him on TV shows like American Dad, Legend of Korra, or Adventure. Or maybe you heard his music from Black Flag or Rollins Band. It’s also possible you’ve read one of his many books that won a GRAMMY or heard his spoken word. Whatever the case may be, Henry is a well versed man.
Punk Rock icon. Spoken word poet. Actor. DJ. Is there anything this guy can’t do?
Entertainment Weekly
Rollins likes to keep his schedule packed. Perhaps this is how his autobiography won a GRAMMY because he’s just all around an interesting guy. On top of a relentless schedule full of work, with gigs as an actor, author, DJ, voice-over artist and TV show host he likes to travel too. After touring the globe with Rollins Band and Black Flag, he’s traveled alone to places such as Nepal, Sri Lanka, Siberia, North Korea, South Sudan and Iran.

Buffalo-area native Anthony Casuccio has returned with his first solo effort in over 20 years, Emotional Lockdown. Created last year during COVID-19 lockdown, Casuccio said he used music as an outlet to deal with isolation, composing over a dozen songs that became the six-track album. He plans to include some of the additional tracks in live DJ sets.
Casuccio, a guitarist and veteran Grammy-winning producer, has gained accolades for remastering albums for icons like Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison and Tony Bennett. But he took a new turn with his latest project, opting for EDM-infused pop with flourishes of 80s rock. The music merges classic pop vocals with experimental synths, feeling from many eras at once.

Casuccio combines an acoustic sound with diverse and genre-spanning dance beats. Something about the tone gives the music the feel of coming from your childhood. In fact, this could be widely applicable, as the music feels simultaneously from many different eras at the same time. Opening track “Love is the Answer” could easily soundtrack a Hands Across America ad. “My Destiny” with vocalist Laura Aiisha transports you to a 70s rave, practically conjuring the glitter and silk chiffon. And the penultimate track “I’m Free” brings to mind the Y2K energy of early Daft Punk and Darude’s “Sandstorm.”
Though he experiments with his favorite elements of many different genres, sometimes Casuccio relies too heavily on the constraints of radio pop. Beats-machine lines weaken the sound, and the vocal production often feels disjointed from Casuccio’s instrumentals. Casuccio has not yet mastered the immersive and feral nature of today’s electronic music. Yet his take still feels unique and new, if rough around the edges.
Casuccio’s taste for combining unusual elements from across pop eras can pay off. When his music leans into a more experimental and heady approach, exciting things happen. Electronic yet retro influences on songs like “Not Alone” bring to mind indie-pop auteur Alex Cameron. The songs’ standout guitar solo, which leads into the beat falling to pieces before disappearing, was a favorite moment on the album. “Not Alone”’s lyrics repeatedly question: “I’m on my own/ I hope I’ve grown.” Over the devolving beat, the track feels the most personal, and also the most arresting, of the entire project.
Though the focus is Casuccio’s production, he recorded his own vocals and recruited others to contribute. For “Love is the Answer,” Casuccio recruited veteran vocalist Cynthia Moore, who toured and recorded for 16 years with James Brown. Two songs also feature Buffalo-based singer Laura Aiisha, whose dreamy vocals on “My Destiny” elevate the pulsating disco track.
Final track “I Am Drowning” is the most modern pop hit on the project. The track features singer Maddie Radwan, a former student of Casuccio’s. Her raw vocals match pop’s current moment, dominated by artists like Billie Eilish and Willow Smith. The charming collaboration flows nicely and comes in at a chart-appropriate 3 minutes 34 seconds. But some of Casuccio’s production still feels unexpected and experimental, and the influences of a younger student are clear.
For all the ways in which COVID-19 crippled the music world, a bright spot was the wave of exploration and creativity that came from isolation. Artists across genres, cooped up, released experimental, raw work that will stand out for a long time. Cassuccio’s choice to experiment with a new sound and explore the bounds of his musicality shines through. Though the EP can falter, Casuccio’s taste for combining unique elements of dance music across time leaves the ear curious. One can only hope he will continue to use his skill with production to continue to explore what pop and EDM have to offer.
On October 8th, Jake Miller, Fly By Midnight and Just Seconds Apart packed a crowd at Buffalo Iron Works for the “hi, i missed you tour.”
Just Seconds Apart, a trio of triplets from Arizona, opened the show with an incredible performance. Followed by the duo Fly By Midnight, who brought the energy and kept it going through their entire set. Lastly was Jake Miller and the crowd was absolutely nuts over him.
Before he stepped on stage, I talked to a few people who were in the crowd because I had never really listened to his music before. I stood next to a young woman who told me this was her tenth time seeing him. She told me that his music saved her life. This felt fitting as soon as Jake came out singing his song “Saved Me.” This made me a little teary-eyed.

This wasn’t Miller’s first performance in Buffalo as he performed at the Kissmas Bash at the Key Bank Arena “I remember that performance,” Jake said “It was my first real time singing in an arena and I was nervous that not a lot of people would know my music. Then I stopped singing and the whole arena kept it going. It’s a memory that I will never forget.”
Jake Miller, Fly By Midnight and Just Seconds Apart provided a fun, high energy concert. The talent of each performer made it hard for you not to become a fan of each group, if you weren’t already.
