On Friday, July 23rd, Scott Hansen (aka Tycho) will launch his first ISO50 branded event at the Brooklyn Mirage in Brooklyn, NY. The event will feature six acts over six hours and will be an immersive audio-visual experience for attendees. Hansen himself will be headlining the show.

    tycho

This event is one-of-a-kind, and all six acts have been hand-picked by Hansen, with good reason. Besides Hansen, the other acts that will perform in the heart of Brooklyn are RAC, Com Truise, Roosevelt, Heathered Pearls, and Nitemoves.

About the show, Tycho says, “I’m very excited to announce a special event I’ve put together featuring artists whom I greatly respect and admire,” says Hansen. “This will be the East Coast debut of a new set I’ve developed incorporating elements from all three eras of Tycho and a return to a focus on the immersive audio-visual experience.”

In keeping with the visual aesthetic of the festival, the digital event poster will be tokenized and made available as an NFT.  All attendees will have the exclusive opportunity to purchase the NFT for only the cost of minting and gas fees. Tickets go on sale on Friday, June 18th at 10am ET.

  • Space Bacon Releases Debut Album ‘CONE’

Brooklyn-based four-piece band Space Bacon released their debut album, CONE, on June 11. CONE features 16 original instrumental tracks and blends rock and jam-band influences with an electronic flare.

    Space Bacon

Space Bacon is made up of Sam Crespo on drums, Chris Gironda on keyboards, Kevin LeGall on bass and Jack Willard on guitar. The band previously came out with their Nodes EP in 2016. CONE‘s recording process was split between Sabella Recording Studio in Roslyn Heights, NY and also with the help of Alfred Rylands in Wilmington, VT.

CONE features fan favorites such as “Ice Planet”, “Cloud Coast”, and “Heatseeker” as well as deeper cuts from their catalogue, reworked songs from their early years, and never before heard interludes.

    Space Bacon Press Team

On CONE, tracks like “Cone” and “Throwing Shade” open with undeniable rock-n-roll guitar riffs. The riff on “Throwing Shade” even emulates a pop punk sound similar to 2000s-era hits like “The Middle” by Jimmy Eats World.

    Space Bacon

The band’s electronica-inspired grooves stand out on tracks like “Satellite,” “Lodge” and “Triangulation” with airy synths and reverb-heavy background sounds. Though the electronic influences stand strong, there is simultaneously a fun and energetic jam-band energy woven throughout the album. Since CONE is entirely instrumental, Space Bacon’s strength as a band is able to shine and they certainly dive into a funky rhythm.

Space Bacon recently celebrated the release of CONE with two sold out performances at the Safe and Soundz Music Festival in the Catskills. Be sure to look out for more shows and connect with Space Bacon on Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and their website. CONE is available to stream on all platforms.

  • Brooklyn Duo Corbu Release “Lost & Found” EP

Brooklyn-based electronic dream-pop duo Corbu has released their Lost & Found EP. The EP reimagines the title track with five new remixes, along with the original version.

    corbu

Corbu, comprised of Amanda Corbu and Jonathan Graves, focuses on bringing an ethereal, even other-worldly sound to their psychedelic and ambient pop tracks. They have previously toured with Bloc Party, performed with Goldfrapp and played both Austin City Limits and Electric Forest festivals. Last year, Corfu released their debut album Crayon Soul, featuring mixing by Tame Impala and MGMT collaborator Dave Friedman.

[Corbu is] trying to lure their audience deeper into their own subconscious while giving them something to sing along to.

    Corbu

On the original single version of “Lost & Found”, Corbu collaborated with Doves frontman Jimi Goodwin. Goodwin produced the track and added reggae and electronic flares, creating a laid-back yet energized soundscape.

The EP features “Lost & Found” redone five times over and explores new genres and sounds. On the “Seaside Version”, the track goes vintage and utilizes upbeat 80s synth to create a sound that could easily fit into an episode of Stranger Things. On the “JKriv Remix”, Brooklyn DJ JKriv remixed the track to fit a more booming club sound evocative of traditional house music and drum loops. The EP as a whole is perfect for the summertime.

Check out all six tracks below and keep up with Corbu on their website, Instagram and Youtube channel!

  • Bad Business Club Releases “Flip Me Over” off Upcoming Album

Bad Business Club is prepping for a groovy Summer by releasing a new single, “Flip Me Over.” It’s the first single from their upcoming album, Naked Neighbor, out August 13, 2021. The Brooklyn collective’s daytime disco stomper marks the beginning of a new pulsating direction for the band.

“Flip Me Over” aims to be a theme song for moments like those. Written in Puerto Rico during a week-long writing session shortly before COVID-19, the band gathered to write disco music inspired by the smooth daytime dance sounds of poolside and leisure.

With their instruments in hand, they talked about their ups, downs, successes, and mistakes all while living in New York City. What came out of the week-long writing escape turned out to be a lot more than a set of smooth grooves.

Away from the band’s home base in Brooklyn, Bad Business Club started collaborating on the theme of leaving old baggage behind. “Flip Me Over” revels in nighttime excitement and morning confusion, but ending with a sense of no regrets, and pride in our experiences – all wrapped around a dreamy synth to intensify the almost beach-like psychedelic vibe.

Produced by Morgan Wiley of Midnight Magic, with remixes to follow by Woofly and Tsutro, this daytime disco stomper marks the beginning of a new direction for Bad Business Club.

The band is set to debut a full year’s worth work in this summer’s Naked Neighbor album, due out in August.

Bad Business Club is a Nu-Disco collective with some old-school Yacht Rock touches, producing a “style that will take some back to the late 70’s, with harmonies larger than life.”

The group is primarily influenced by classic Giorgio Moroder-style Disco, and Modern Daytime disco al la Poolside and Holy Ghost!, while combining the harmonic influences of Yacht Rock. Their smooth sound transports listeners to another place, to summer breezes and early morning champagne.

  • Pons New Single “Leland (Club Mix)”

The electronic music with an angular post-punk edge band called Pons has just come out with their new single. The single, Leland (Club Mix), comes along with a music video on youtube with a spooky and intense overtone.

    Pons

Pons was started by multi-instrumentalists Sam Cameron, Jack Parker, and Sebastien Carnot. While the studio process is fairly fluid in terms of who plays what, you hear Sam Cameron on lead vocals and guitar, Jack Parker on drums, bass, and occasionally synth, and Sebastien Carnot on auxiliary percussion.

Formed by Sam Cameron and Jack Parker in North Carolina in the summer of 2018, they decided to relocate to Vermont shortly after. They then added Sebastien Carnot to the lineup on the second drum to push their sound in a more angular and percussive direction.

Their performances live are a lot more minimal and primitive with Sam singing and playing guitar and then Jack and Sebastian on drums. They have recently re-located to Brooklyn, NY they thought it was the next step up from their start in Vermont to grow their group.

The “Leland (Club Mix)” music video was shot and edited by Lazy Eye, an LA-based film collective. In total, it took about three months from the conception of the idea until the music video was finished.

  • New Venue Alert – Brooklyn Made to Open With Jeff Tweedy Show

Brooklyn Made, a brand-new music venue in Bushwick, will open this fall. Former Live Nation New York President Anthony Makes announced the launch of Brooklyn Made Presents, a concert promotion company, in the summer of 2020. This new addition of the company, a 500-capacity club, will see its first show September 30, with a performance by Jeff Tweedy.

    Brooklyn Made - Bushwick

The bells and whistles with this place are so far ahead of anything we’ve ever seen and we know – every single artist and fan that comes here – is going to be blown away by the experience.

    Anthony Makes

Connected to the music room is a bar called Connie’s which features a horseshoe-shaped bar along with a pool table. The bar is sure to be not only the pre but the post hang spot for fans coming to Brooklyn Made. Connie’s also has access to an outdoor courtyard along with a second level roof deck for taking your food and drinks outside. The bar will be open until 4 am, even on non-show days.

Right next door to the venue will be a café called Standing Room which will open at 7 am as a coffee house/café with pastries and breakfast and then turn into a cocktail/wine/tapas bar with a full kitchen in the afternoon until late into the evening. Outdoor seating will be available here as well.

Performers at Brooklyn Made will have exclusive access to a myriad of amenities, including a second level carriage house, private outdoor swimming pool, and multiple roof decks offering unobstructed panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline. There is also a lower level VIP area has a private bar and pool table.

Having played venues and festivals of all sizes across the world, there are a handful that really stick out. Our aim is to make sure all artists that come through our rooms have an unforgettable experience. From hospitality, to sound, to lights – we want it all to be next level.

Kelly Winrich, Delta Spirit band member

Jeff Tweedy will open the club with a special two-night run of shows on Sept 30 and Oct 1 followed by Greg Dulli on Oct 2 and Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue on Oct 4 and 5. Tickets for all of these shows will go on sale at noon on June 11.

Brooklyn Made has partnered with the mobile ticketing platform DICE for the club’s events. Along with purchasing tickets, the waitlist technology allows fans who were unable to get tickets during the initial on sale with another shot at it. If a fan can’t attend a show after purchasing their ticket, they can request a full refund which allows the tickets to go on sale for the next person in the waitlist line.

  • Superbloom Serve Brooklyn Grunge With Live EP & Album

Brooklyn’s alternative rock band Superbloom has dropped Live at Studio G, a 3 song live EP made up of tracks off their upcoming studio LP ‘Pollen’ out June 1st. The EP includes the live version of a new single, in fact, the title track, off the upcoming LP Pollen.

    Superbloom: Live at Studio G

Superbloom: Live at Studio G was recorded at Studio G in Brooklyn, engineered by Jack Counce, and mixed & mastered by Brian DiMeglio. The EP contains three songs off the new album Pollen including the title track itself, “Mary on a Chain,” and “Whatever.”

Superbloom’s recent singles “Muzzle,” “Whatever” and “Mary on a Chain,” needed a good follow-up considering those landed on Spotify’s All New Rock, Alternative Noise playlists and more. They definitely lived up to the hype with both Pollen the single and the album.

Recording at Studio G was a dream. We’re huge fans of live studio recordings like Audiotree, KEXP and Live at Studio 4 and we sort of threw ourselves at the idea with our own resources. The studio itself is unreal and Jack is a longtime friend of the band. We spent the day hanging out, messing with tones, playing through the songs and eating pizza. Can’t imagine a better day for a band.

Their debut album, Pollen is a 12-track love-letter to heavy alternative music. A mixture of old and new make up every song, if you’re looking for something fresh that somehow still sparks nostalgia Pollen has got it. Perfect for road trips or hangs by the water.

    Pollen by Superbloom

With all the vibes of Seattle moved to the east coast this Brooklyn based band brought grunge into 2021 in a great way. If you have any sort of Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, or Pearl Jam shaped hole in your heart Superbloom is the sound to fix that. Most of the album is face paced but if you want to slow it down Muzzle or Twig are the songs for you.

The album was mastered by Will Yip (whose credits include projects with The Menzingers, Turnstile, Quicksand, Mannequin Pussy, Code Orange), mixed by Joe Reinhart (Beach Bunny, Remo Drive, Joyce Manor, Hop Along), artwork by Patrick Turk Collage Art, and produced by Superbloom.

While the album’s feedback-laced instrumentation is hard-hitting at every turn, the band’s sonic signature is embedded in the vocal performance that fills each track with complex layering, earworm melodies and lush harmonies that deliver discoveries of nuanced detail with each listen. The sounds span from infectiously bouncy hard rock, instantly nostalgic acoustic songs, sing-along choruses, and undeniable hooks.

Pollen released on all streaming services on June 1, and is available for digital and pre-orders for the 180 gram blue with white marble vinyl, on June 14.

Stream Superbloom Live at Studio G here. Digital Pre-order of Pollen available now on Bandcamp, Vinyl Pre-Order here, and for UK and EU orders, visit Thirty Something Records. Stream “Pollen” on Consequence, Spotify, and Apple Music.

  • Wild Yaks Announces Live Album, Rockaway Beach show

Brooklyn-based Wild Yaks have announced Live at Rippers, their fifth LP and first live album, due July 16, 2021. Alongside its digital release, Live At Rippers will be available in a run of 500 LPs with jackets hand-screened in Rockaway Beach, NY. Wild Yaks are proud to be the first band back at the venue in 2021, setting a performance there for July 17.

For Wild Yaks, music is the ability to take the horrible parts of life, and elevate them into a sacred, firey riot.

I think my chief interest is to transform despair into moments for celebration. What I’m trying to do is rejoice in what’s fragile, and rejoice in what’s already broken. The only thing that I will accept is being fully abandoned. It’s about moving and singing with no concern for the consequences.

Wild Yaks’ frontman and songwriter Rob Bryn.

Live at Rippers presents this vision and the band’s “sense-clobbering” performance better than any album to date. It was recorded at the Rockaway Beach punk-rock-beach-burger-joint Rippers in October of 2019. Bryn again:

Almost all of the songs grew out of moments that happened in Rockaway. And to perform them at Rippers on the altar of blood from which so many of these things sprang is strange and amazing.

Wild Yaks play an ecstatic fusion of punk rock and big-city folk reinforced with passionate vocals (often delivered in unison by the full membership). The band was formed in the fall of 2007 in Brooklyn, New York by singer/guitarist Rob Bryn and drummer/vocalist Martin Cartagena.

While many players have made their way through the Yaks’ over the years, today’s lineup is Jose Aybar (bass), Patsy Carroll (guitar), Giovanni Kincade (Farfisa), Matt Walsh (guitar), plus Cartagena and Bryn. The Yaks’ discography also includes the EP 10 Ships (Don’t die yet, 2009), and full-length albums Million Years(2012), Rejoice! God Loves Wild Yaks (2015), and Great Admirer (2019). The band’s music has been featured in numerous television shows and films, most notably their live performance in an episode of Law and Order SVU.

  • Endearments Makes Debut With Catchy Low-Fi Single

Left Side” is the debut single from Endearments (a.k.a Kevin Marksson). The Brooklyn-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist began writing and composing by and for himself for the first time in fifteen years following the end of synth-pop duo Saint Marilyn in 2019. “Left Side” is definitely a way to start his single career strong.

    Endearments
    Album Cover

The song itself is about how O.C.D. (Obsessive–Compulsive Disorder) affects Marksson and his relationships. The resulting track unspools unanswerable questions over mighty pulses from drummer Jonathan Schmidt and Marksson’s own multi-tracked vocals, which flicker, omnipresent and cool, around the edges of the song’s atmosphere. In this song the low-fi beat with his voice is one where you can just close your eyes and vibe out to.

This single has Marksson leaning into his obsessive tendencies pouring over every sound and lyric, tweaking every riff and arpeggiation to convey the inner workings of his mind: disorder and parallelism.

    Endearments
    Photo Cred: Rita Iovine

His chosen name, Endearments, is because “I wanted the name to convey affection, even though I knew the music would almost certainly be sad.”
Taking inspiration from auteurs like Peter Gabriel and Justin Vernon, Endearments’ lush sonics and careful songcraft reflect Marksson’s avowed status as a hardware-focused composer. Marksson is a longstanding accomplice in the Brooklyn indie rock scene.
